Servers really aren’t a big deal apart from world versus world. So don’t worry about so much about picking one. You can still group and party and guild with anyone from any server.

One thing I’m really starting to get annoyed by is the events in this game.

When a new event happens it’ll add something to work on that is really only doable during the event. Look at the blades backpiece. It’s so hard to get it now because of it’s massive need for blade shards that aren’t easy to get apart from parking 10 characters at no so secret jp.

I hate one time only events that MMO’s seem to be all about these days. One time only events that give out things so people can feel like special snowflakes and show off. It aggravates me.

New maps that are well designed. Dry top and the Silverwastes. you should check them out, they shower you with loot and are action packed. The mobs in the silverwastes are actually trying to kill you (as opposed to mobs found in other maps).

Living story that you’ll have to pay to have access that is more interesting than the Scarlet extravaganza.

PvP overhaul, that thing is much better now.

New log-in reward system and new dailies that force you to do WvW for 2 min each day. It’s not so bad in the end.

New Player Experience system that is designed to drive you mad. Seriously, they really screwed up here.

Pretty much, though just avoid pvp. It’s a total mess. There isn’t any match making in place because there isn’t any people doing it. It’s a total unbalanced mess, though it’s awesome if you play an engineer as they’re the love child of A-net and will continue to be such it seems.

Other then silverwastes, which will get old pretty quick because of all the people taxi’ing in and out and not helping to progress the map at all and the shovel farmers.

NPE is the worst thing thats ever happened to game and literally the developers didn’t think at all about it and kneejerked it into game. It’s some awful crap. As you can see the countless threads about the awful awful trait system all over the place.

Most people are just sitting around not doing much waiting for HoT information.

My first map completion was Guardian. Which I highly recommend against. They’re probably the slowest moving class, they have horrible health pool and can’t really solo with zerker gear because of said low health pool. Did I mention they’re slow? Staff sucks balls, lets be honest here staff as a weapon blows. You only see so many guardians with one because of it’s lootstick qualities and might stack.

My first map completion was with a guardian too and it’s honestly not as bad as you make it seem.

Yes, I used staff. No, it doesn’t suck balls. It gives you perma swiftness if you combine it with the ‘retreat!’ shout and the might-stacks are really good. When you’re up against a group of mobs simply open the fight with staff 4, switch to your greatsword and kill everything. It’s really super easy.

I also used Berserker gear with Scholar runes. I could easily solo anything I wanted in open-world PvE. I mean come on, open-world PvE is so extremely easy that if you honestly die a lot in open-world PvE you’re probably just really bad (or at least a really bad guardian).

Doesn’t change the fact that it’s the slowest moving class in game with the lowest health pool. I’m looking forward to specializations to maybe get to be a damage guardian without giving up literally everything that makes my class desirable and having no defense to be less then what a warrior is. Cause right now without support a guardian is a half-kitten warrior.

I actually leveled up doing world completion on guardian and had no issue whatsoever with speed, killing thinghs, and staying alive. Guardian also does not have the worst mobility in the game as you can have 100% up-time swiftness. I always went with berserker related stats and uses greatsword/staff. Your issue here may have been that you did not know how to play the class after a few hours and used mediocre weapons. I get the feeling from your post that you camped staff.

I’ve done world completion on every class but thief and engineer. I’m slowly working on thief and have zero desire to ever play engineer. Of the ones that I have done, mesmer was the slowest.

No, I hate staff never use it. Most I use staff for is to swap to it for Teq prior to burn phase. I find it a boring weapon and serves little point or use. I much rather prefer a scepter/focus and greatsword. Greatsword because it’s required as it’s the only damage weapon we have. We have other weapons that deal damage, but it’s the only high damage option.

The guardian profession confuses me, why am I the only class who’s profession skills effect everyone around me? Mesmers shatters only effect them. Engi tool belt only effects them. Necro only effects them. Why does all virtue have to effect everyone around me? It seems to be the prime reason our health is so low and damage is so low, to offset the stupid high amounts of support.

The relevance of Guilds in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

heartless.6803

I’ve been guildless most of the 2 years I’ve played and only recently got into a guild. For the most part I don’t do anything with them and still consider the entire guild thing to be worthless.

I’m a very big solo player and honestly guilds don’t do anything. The only thing you need to be in a guild for is missions. Triple Trouble gets done by TTS and other large guilds that exist solely for world bosses, and they usually post when they do it. So I just go and tag along.

Guilds are useless and really only there for social aspects, and if you’re asocial like me they’re useless entirely.

Yeah want to know the kicker? I hate every class that uses daggers. Thief, I’m like the worst thief on the planet. Eles? I’m horrible at them and hate them. Necro’s? Meh really, they have like zero appeal to me.

So I’ll end up selling it on the TP and using the gold towards twilight, the legendary I actually want.

Problem with turret engi is the good build requires the locked grand master trait. Which I don’t understand, why give me all traits in spvp by one? Not to mention Engineers bore the crap outta me. I hate the lack of weapon choice, and I really can’t stand that stupid hobo backpack with literally every kit. I don’t want a hobo satchel.

I have a warrior but don’t really play it because I don’t have any traits. The new trait system is without a doubt my most hated change in MMO video game history. I’m waiting patiently for account wide unlocks so I can play more then just my 3 grand fathered classes.

Whats With The Bad Match-ups again?

in PvP

There isn’t MMR. The match making system is to wait 2 mins and then throw literally everyone into the same pile and go from there.

MMR doesn’t exist because nobody pvp’s for it to match people. People don’t pvp because there is no MMR.

Look at the game browser on literally any day at any time, there isn’t a single full map. There is literally like a few hundred people pvping. Thats it. The games pvp is so kitten that nobody does it.

IMO, get rid of this 5v5 arena kitten and move to 8v8 by default. Things become more interesting now that it’s no so individual based.

Lol yer lookin at the hotjoin servers, but I agree bring back 8v8 hotjoin. Leave ranked/unranked 5v5, but dear god fix the matchmaking.

Hotjoin is where the changes need to start though. Thats where new players join first and where it drives them away. The fact that nearly 75% of all matches I join are 400 to 50 and the game is over pretty much. Things like 8v8 will help newer players get better by the match not being so reliant on individual actions but more team oriented.

Also, group queue and solo queue really needs to be separated again. I don’t care if the group queuers have a 20 mins queue time, suck it up.

Thats not my problem, my problem isn’t know what I should be doing. It’d actually doing it. I’m not good, remember?, I’m never a person that can or will get to anywhere near decent level of play.

All I’m asking, is can we put in something for pure kittened noobs? Something that automatically restricts over a certain rank? Something that doesn’t have daily progression or rank progression or track progression. That is purely for bad people to play against other bad people.

Right now structured pvp is near unplayable. I’m not good and frankly everywhere the game itself directs me to is just do hotjoin it’s for new players. Hot join is literally 99% of the time you go into a map that is 400 to 20 and guess what you’re on the 20 side and you end the match and get literally nothing.

I’ve tried unranked and it’s not much better, I get stomped something fierce literally most of the time. I’m really bad, read very bad like ridiculously bad at pvp. There isn’t a single thing in game that teaches or introduces or eases into pvp. It’s like if they had a short this is basic game mechanics okay you got the hand now go into fractal 50 you’ll be fine you got the basic examples remember.

Why is it that any time of day on any week I go into the pvp server browser and not see a single full server? That tells you something about the status of structured pvp. It needs a complete overhaul. Screw those 120 people that play and redue the entire thing for Heart of Thorns and make it easier for new and all players. Get rid of this 5v5 arena kitten and go to a 10v10 style where individual is less important and you don’t feel like you sucking brings down the entire team.

I’m confused. Why do these materials need to cost the same? I would understand if ascended equipment gave you some advantage over other players, but it doesn’t. The minuscule stat bonus means nothing in ZergVZerg, and you don’t use equipment in PvP. What exactly is the problem?

The only real reason you need ascended gear is for Fractals and agony resistance. It’s a common heated debate item because people get frustrated with the very concept of agony damage. Honestly if they removed agony damage entirely from fractals and agony resistance I wouldn’t care at all about ascended gear. Leave it as unbalanced as it is now, without needing to farm it for agony I no longer care at all about rushing to get it.

I love Silverwastes, but hate chest farms as well. Mainly people spamming map chat asking for one. There is nothing really wrong with bandit chests in of themselves, after taking a fort, Ill use a shovel and find a few while I wait.

Funny however because in the same way you see chest farms making SW bad, I see WvW as fail due to champ trains. A “pvp zone” where people just blob and kill NPCs is what has steered me away from WvW in this game, and giggle to myself when I hear people talk about how great WvW/EOTM is.

Edge is a karma train, it’s just there for leveling. WvW will hopefully change with stability changes and other factors of HoT hopefully reduce the size of the zergs.

Anet is happy to allow it, but they made it slightly harder after NGE to tease us.
They didn’t remove it because they love us very much. Even more when we buy a character slot for it. And the ‘compensation for the impact’ was the addition of tomes of knowledge farming.

Key farming was the main reason that they changed NPE. Before you can get a key every 5 mins or so. Now it takes considerably longer. Though it’s a waste of time really, since you get mostly crap in BLC anyway. The only valuable thing is contracts and I’ve opened hundreds of chests and got not a single one.

Realistically you can do every instance in the game with 5 rangers. It’s not as fast or as optimal but it’s entirely doable. Instances, outside fractals, are essentially really easy.

Play what you enjoy, keep in mind guardians have to work way harder for damage. When they want to be damage, they end up giving up nearly all of their utility for it and become glass cannons. Which is why you seen more hybrid support damage guardians.

Truth is I find guardians hit or miss. Their damage is low, their health is low and they can’t solo in beserker gear due to low health and so it’s always a toss up of which of the low aspects do you want to buff up. The health or the damage? Cause you can’t have both, if you wanted both you should have been a warrior.

The new player experience is absolutely without a doubt horrible in nearly every single way. I bought a second account on the PAX special and honestly playing through it, the game is a horrible mess. You’re locked out of nearly the entire game and have to unlock everyone in time in a very convoluted mess that doesn’t seem well thought out in the slightest. You don’t have next to any abilities at first and it makes leveling a boring tedious mess.

The trait system, is without a doubt the very worst system put in place by an MMO to date. It’s just absolutely horrible and I have to commend you on finding a way the sucks more then any other system that has ever been put in place before. I don’t know whoever came up with that idea of unlocking traits or the ones who deemed which things to unlock which traits but the lot of them really should be terminated and you really need to rehire new people as they’re only going to make the game worse.

Can we get the old system back? One that isn’t so unfriendly to new accounts? One that doesn’t lock the entire game away?

Running dungeons at 80 will net more gold then farming. By and large farming materials is a waste of time, as they go for so little it’s not worth the time to farm. Even leveling professions you’re better option is to farm dungeons for gold and buy all the materials rather then farm the materials.

While leveling though gather anything around you and sell it all, it’s added profit. Don’t really worry about gold until 80 and even then it’s not exactly something you need to worry about.

Smaller things like a broken sigil or rune might slip through because you need a lot of people to figure that out, but really guys, stop making excuses for Arenanet on this one.

I don’t think the green downed state bar was a bug. That was an intentional change that was just not very well received so they called it a bug and reverted it. Either that or it was a bug resulting from fixing Necros.

I honestly don’t see the point of crafting ascended gear apart from a completionist stand. The stat difference is marginally better and not worth the cost. It’s really only required for high level fractals which is hardly an endgame since the reward gain isn’t really there.

There’s probably no footprints because if you had a legendary main-hand as well it would use the footprints for that.

And you think the effect of it is mundane? When that thing is wielded it turns into a giant pulsing forcefield on your arm… Hardly mundane.

I main a guardian, it’s a mundane and boring legendary. I already have a pulsy forcefield without a shield.

scepter works great for that fight , seems a shame to have to buy one just for one fight tho.

Yep, it’s a shame, because any decent guardian should have a backup scepter/focus already They are just too useful not to have them.

It’s less as such that they’re useful and more as such they’re the only ranged option guardians have, which is quite terrible really. But hey any range is better then no range I guess.
