I really get the fact that they want to avoid achievement farming with a guild group in those activities..but seriously..most of them just takes a few runs to do the achievements anyway, simply tune the rewards considering the possibility of farming and let us play with our friends.

This kind of minigames isn’t for the reward nor for the achievement points, we play them because they are funny, different from the routine of the game, not let us do it with friends!

I have 10k+ achievement points and I never, not even once grinded an achievement. I just play the game the way I like to play it. Almost never 100% living story achievements, never 100% daily. Most of the time i’m just playing some wvw with friends, leveling some alts with friends or doing tpvp. And the achievement points flow naturally.

I do get it, there is people who needs to have it all. That ain’t my problem though. More achievement categories in my daily will mean that there is more stuff I can do to complete it. If I’m up for it. If I’m not, my life will go on pretty much the same. While having a decent playtime (around 2,5h/day), I feel i’m still pretty casual.

You guys should seriously stop complaining if Anet adds something to the game..you ain’t forced do play any new content, it’s a kitten game..

Or an opposite example with T3 cultural armor which is only 60g in PvP and twice as much in PvE. Isn’t it obtaining PvP version a no brainer ? And if it is, will it draw farmers in ?

It’s going to require 60k glory too, which is a lot for a pve player. So probably no, people won’t go to spvp to buy t3 (but probably will go to pve to buy t2..)

As of TA, it depends if you really are PvX or not. Getting it farming TA will be cheaper (you’ll even get a lot of gold), but it will take you to a dungeon, and not everyone will like it.

This is actually giving people different options to get their stuff, and this is always a good thing. I don’t see pvp t3 cheaper for a pve player and viceversa i don’t see TA set cheaper for a pvp player.

Hey guys!

I have seen the new rank rates for soloQ and teamQ and I must say I really enjoyed winning 5 teamQ arenas in a row this afternoon, it was something around 7k rank.

But when I checked my progression, and how the current rank system works, I came to realize that not much is going to change, the first ranks will be very quick but then it’s gonna be pretty much the same.

I know ranks are currently been reworked but what I am thinking is:

Why not to add a consecutive win system like the random arenas in gw1?

Instead of a flat 5x, or 3x, you could add 1x for each consecutive win (maybe reworking the base amount, e.g. up to 300 from 200 for teamQ to balance the immediate loss of the 5x), wouldn’t that be better?
That could be pushed even further with some related achievement for consecutive wins.

So, let’s hear some thoughts..

I get why devs don’t want to make pvp the ultimate gold farming spot, and i agree.

In the livestream we have seen the gold prices of pvp stuff and the gold gain from matches is fairly balanced with those costs. A full set goes from 2,5 to 40g, which is around 15 tpvp fights for the first. That’s perfectly fine.

The only problem, which is not yet considered, is that a lot of pve stuff can be needed in pvp. Dyes are every day more expensive, last time i checked on abyss it was 40g. Gold income should take in account this too, since the dye gain from pvp is very, very low. Pve players can convert spare golds into gems, a thing that in pvp you won’t be able to do without passing on the actual pvp rewards to stack the amount of gold (80 gold for 800 gems soon, probably) needed for the conversion.

I’m not saying that a 15 min match should award 1g+ as a 15 min dungeon, but 25 silver for a soloq and 30 for a team arena sounds really low compared to the gold income you can have grinding a few pve contents.

A good idea could be doing something similar to dungeons, first time for a given path gives you more, and then less. Maybe 60s → 40s → 30s for a team arena?

New rewards are intresting, but it’s new game modes we really needed..

I know they will add them some time, but in the meanwhile we’re stuck with conquest..and i really didn’t need new rewards, i kept playing that mode for killing sake for a year, not much will change, i won’t like it more if they give me 1g after each match..(which they won’t, we’re gonna laugh when we see how many coppers is their “giving us gold”)

Endurance is good as it is imo.

I think that it’s fairly easy to figure out what sigil the enemy is using. From a pvp perspective there isn’t a very big choice. Fire, geomancy, doom, hydromancy have all pretty visible effects. Usually, if one isn’t using one of them he’s using energy, at least in spvp.

Keeping track of enemy skills, cc, endurance and so on is part of the game and part of the skill.

We definitely want to avoid WoW pvp interface, where you had to use so many addons to keep track of everything (enemy cc, drs, enemy trinkets, enemy combo points, i could go on forever) that you barely see the enemy

The main problem changing these rewards is to be fair. I have a lot of tournament win chests and a nice stack of glory saved. I know guildies who spent their glory for the rank boxes in order to fulfill that useless lockbox..

They are going to be really kitten ed off if the situation won’t be addressed giving some sort of fairness.
It already happened with karma jugs and karma boosters, and you had to rollback. Think about it from the beginning this time, will ya?

I play PU a lot when solo roaming wvw, it gives me the options to survive when outnumbered, in wvw with food and so on can be quite effective, you can easily kill (and stomp, which it’s hard with different builds) one by one a group of 3 or 4.

I sometimes run PU when soloq, can be fun and soloq is basically random anyway. When it comes to tpvp i run a sword/torch + staff 20/20/0/0/30 shatterer. Sadly we are kinda forced into that build when it comes to being competitive in tpvp.

As of null field and arcane thievery, for me it depends a lot on who i am facing. If i have to stand some condi pressure or if i plan to kill some bunker guard, i go for null field. Arcane thievery is more a burst move, works insanely well against ranger or warrior elites, can literally change a 1v1 against an engineer, but it will rarely be of any help against a guardian or a ele who will replace the boons you steal after 2 seconds. Same for conditions, bouncing back conditions can be a lot of use but you have to be very careful about the timing..never do that if the necro hasn’t just popped his consume conditions or you’re going to do him a favor..

Hi there,

Me and some folks are thinking to move to Piken Square leaving Blacktide which is to be honest not the best world for a wvw experience.
The question is, how long are usually the queues to get into wvw? On the average day (afternoon / evening)? During the weekend?

How is the situation? Many roamers around (both on piken and in the worlds that usually you face, we come from blacktide which 70% of the time is against vabbi and whiteside, we can wander the map for half an hour without encountering a single roamer..)?

They don’t need to nerf hammer, or stuns, or even the stance/lyssa. They need to nerf warrior damage. That’s all that needs to happen. Just a flat nerf across all their weapons except mace and to a lesser extent rifle.

The main problem is: i play engi, i want to run bunker, i deal almost no damage. I play ele, i go hybrid bunker/support i deal no damage. I go full support with my mantras and my mesmer still deals very low damage. I play evade thief, my damage can be quite low. I play bunker MM necro and (except in 1v1s maybe) my damage is still pretty useless.

I play warrior and while being tough as hell, impossible to damage with conditions, with so much stability that no cc can be landed on me, i still deals craploads of damage. That’s a problem, a big one. Warrior can be the tank, it really fits my idea of warrior. But, as every other class, has to deal no damage. That +50% crit chance against stunned allows him to go with a full bunker amulet and still crit often as a zerker. Plus the base health and armor..it’s just broken..and 10th october won’t have much of an impact on it, sadly. Those slight nerfs won’t be enough to compensate the overall nerf to vigor on other classes and the warrior will still be top class in pvp..

And finally , the biggest problem is the artificial nature of the PvP mode . You are forced to capture circles this severely limiting innate class advantages . prime example : thief design is godmode in WvW because of innate mobility and the ability to choose fights , but …. either OP or bleh in pvp ( but this is due to balance not deign ) .

Bottom line : bad builds , artificially limited mode balance spilling into other gameplay areas and no guts to make significant changes to a very badly designed class concept .

Conquest mode leads to a very unnatural playstile, forcing into some builds that lead to poor diversity.
spvp and wvw roaming have completely different builds, and that’s fine being two completely different things. If we had some different game modes (i’ll never stop saying that, give us deathmatch, killing for killing’s sake please) we would have a very different game. Relatively small maps would completely kill strategy while being able to focus on something different than 1 close rest mid gg hold on for 10 minutes.

We will never be an esport if we lack these simple basics. Anet should really put some more people working on different game modes, i know the next monday a blog post will be done about it and i can’t wait to see how anet addresses this problem, but i sadly have to say that after more than a year of pvp, i’m not that optimistic..

How ’bout just add deathmatch to spvp..? I run a lot of wvw roaming just for killing sake, but ANET seems not to understand that people wants to kill others for killing sake, not in order to control a point (which, btw, leads to enormously bunker focused builds), not in order to achieve some objective, just because killing is fun?

I’ll admit i didn’t read through all the comments, but these are a few opinions about Sensotix posts:

A lot of very good ideas there, very few bad ideas though.
I won’t focus on the good ones since we probably all agree to that.

I think that bad is the whole discussions about elite pvp such tiers, high rewards for top teams and so on.
Gw2 pvp, with all the gear normalization and such, is very casual friendly. It needs to stay that way. I agree in upgrading rewards for top teams, but my feeling from sentotix post was that being a top team has to be the only way to be rewarded in pvp. That can’t work.

Everything must be achievable without being a “top team”, could take longer, could be harder, but tying rewards to some playstiles (fixed builds, fixed setups, voice communication, long knowledge of eachother and so on, all good things in pvp that makes a team win against one that doesn’t have these things) may kill the already not so good situations of casual pvp.

I am a casual pvp player, more or less soloq and some teamq with guildies (the most of them are much more casual than me). I won’t be complaining about a top team winning a tournament and getting a legendary, i know they are better players then i’ll ever be. That’s because i’m a pvp-oriented players from 10 years of MMOs. Most of the real casual players won’t understand that though.

This has by no means to be read as a critique to Sensotix post or a nuub calling for his rewards. It’s just an opinion based on my knowledge of how many people (how many friends) came to gw2 with me because of it’s attention to casual gaming. Loose that, and loose those players..

By no means fractal is something that one has to play in order to be competitive. Every bit of ascended gear you can get there can be achieved elsewhere, but you won’t need it anyway since it adds very few stats if you don’t care the agony resistance.

Fractal has some big issues right now, I can totally agree with that, but saying that it must be gone forever? Don’t be ridiculous..even if 1 player liked it, it would have been a nice add to the game, since it has no impact at all on the game of those who don’t play it.

I really hate to be so categorical on the forums, but there is a limit to the crap one can read while staying silent..

While i totally agree with this, i think you guys are missing the point here.

For every one of us here on the forum, there are 10s in game. The people reading (and complaining) on the forum are a minority. And the people complaining, even if it seems the majority, is the minority due to the fact that usually if someone is happy with the game you know, he plays it instead of spending time out of it.

This said, I played a couple of hours today and i’ve seen a lot of the new armor skins around, especially in tpvp. Why? ‘cause lots of people like it. We really like the idea to play this great mmorpg for free, so we should stop complaining about other people financing our playtime.
My thief has human t3, but what’s the point of it? I like it. I couldn’t care less if other people, maybe not even humans, had something similar. I like it, and i go with it. That’s the whole point of the game guys..

Again, they will be making money out of it, a lot. All the complainings on the forum won’t make them change their mind and why? Because it’s going to take a couple of clicks for them to notice that for each people compalining, 10 are buying the new armor. So, the majority of their playerbase is probably enjoing the add..

And FYI, i haven’t bought the new armors (yet, probably gonna go for the flamekissed with my asura ele though..looks decent and i already have light asura t3 on 2 characters..)

I can get almost half of that regen from Backpack Regen trait on top of my healing turret which is already one of the best heals in the game. The pot really shouldn’t call the tea kettle black.

We’ve got good regeneration, if built for it, true. Warrior have to take 1 skill and 1 trait (defense 15, which is obliged due to defense IX) and get 760+regen/sec, without healing power but from that traitline. And an aoe won’t break their signet as it breaks our turret..

But i’m letting my war rage taking us off topic here, it’s just that i’m sick of 5+ hambow warriors per match in my r36 solo queue..

The fact is that if you buy 1 tool only, every time you switch character you’ll have to go to a bank, drop your tool, log in the next character, go to the bank, withdraw the tool and repeat for each character. Not much of a convenience item..

Keep in mind that in WvW people will simply walk away from you, or an ally will come and they’ll kill you.

I used to run d/d soldier/cleric gear in wvw and it worked quite fine against roamer thieves due to their lack of toughness but if you get a warrior you won’t be able to even scratch him, his signet will outheal any damage you can do.

Now i’m running mainly zerker with 2 ascended soldier rings (to get some vitality since i have only 10 in water, which will be go to 0 on 10th december) and I find it a lot of fun to play. No room for mistakes, but a lot of damage and you can actually kill things

I’ve found a solution to the RTL problem.

Rerolled to engi and i can have rocket boots every 16 secs, with swiftness it takes me even further than rtl, blast finishes into smoke for stealth, removes immobilize and other movement imparings.

This is were ele is going..

I’d say replace stability with a 0.8 sec 100% speed buff, that could work since it’s barely noticeable.

I don’t kittening get it. Need warrior to have more support? Insanely buff shouts. Need ele not to stick to arcana and water? Nerf to the ground arcana and water. WTF?

Now x/x/x/30/30 is even more forced than before, a lot of CORE traits of every pvp viable build will be master, thus 30 points will be needed to get them both.

Elementalist has INSANE cooldowns on some utilities (armor of earth 90 secs wtf? and now it’s going to be much harder to get the 20% cooldown reduction on chantrips, arcane shield 75s? wtf again). We have no hp, no damage if not geared glass, we MUST go down on defensive traits to stay alive against those classes with 2,5k armor and 20k hp on full zerker gear like wars.

Loved GW, loved GW2, loved my ele. This is probably not the game i’ll be playing in 2014 though. Luckily ESO will come out soon or later..

The champion chests being one day per account should be looked at.

The doors might also summon champions instead of veterans. I guess we all got candy corn elementals and players who play today will get a mask but….

1. Fewer things to do
2. For less reward, while
3. What there was to do was almost all recycled
4. To get anything requires tons of grind. Even last year we had temporary skins for people who wanted to roll play. Everything this year was grindy
5. The new skins were cash shop RNG only and not as good as the old skins,
6. The old skins were not brought back, the only skins in the game to not be brought back. Even last years Xmas skins are already back.

It’s fine the way it is. You are in stealth, not invulnerable and in stealth. If they lay down aoe on your location then you will get hit. If they shoot an attack at your location then you will be hit. All stealth does is prevent you from being visible to enemy players so they can’t directly target you.

AOE is perfectly fine. A projectile (take a look at the karka video, from your reply you probably haven’t done it yet) that follows a stealthed thief isn’t..
When thieves are stomping me with my engi, sometimes i can interrupt them even while in stealth with my wire ‘cause they bodyblock it. That’s fine too. But when with my ele i follow them with my autoattack for seconds after they stealth well..that ain’t fine..

If you queue up attacks prior to the player stealthing, they will still land. Ranged attacks that is.

I don’t play thief anymore but i have noticed that i can hit them with my ele scepter autoattack when they stealth and track their movement with it for a short while.

Shouldn’t stealth drop any action against the target..?

Staff healer WvW viability

I don’t get why anyone would play a healing build with the current status of the game.

I do it a lot spamming water fields and water autoattack on gates keeping our army alive, and what’s the reward for it? I don’t get credit for destroying the gate, i don’t get credit for killing people behind it ‘cause i deal no damage, i don’t get credit for nothing.

Support in wvw has a huge flaw, it isn’t recognized by any reward system..

I strongly suggest to look for a gaming mouse. I played for years binding stuff to my keyboard and i became pretty effective, but when i tried a gaming mouse..man, it felt like playing another game completely.

I’m actually using a logitech G300, very cheap (30 €), very effective in GW2 where you have 10 skills only. I have 1-5 on my keyboard, 6-0 on mouse, plus the highlight enemies function and the target target function (or a repeated 1 pressure when i’m doing zerg with my grenades engineer, feels really good not to have to keep pressing 1 to autoattack )

While it would be easier to just reply with something like “don’t like the achievements? Don’t go get them”, i’m inclined to agree with the one i think is the main reason of your post: the amount of repetitive tasks in achievements.

50 doors to close? 10 would have been enough. I remember dragon bash, how many pignatas was? 250 or 300? 30 would have been enough, more is just grinding..
We could go on and on with the list, but that’s it..

The game, especially with a 2 week release schedule, needs more variety in achievements, not just bigger numbers to achieve. Why no Lunatic Inquisition achievements in the living world? Why not a clocktower achievement, maybe a “hard mode” one? Why not a scavenger hunt like last year?

Twilight assault dungeon achievement category is a good example on how a living world category should be: many different tasks that require you to play a content once or twice, thrice max to get them.

Conquest is a fine game mode. Problem is it’s the only game mode. So no I don’t get addictive, because doing the same thing after +4k games gets old.

This one, has been fun the first month. Then i’m playing it just ’cause its that or pve..

Skyhammer has some issues, it probably takes some work. But ANET should really think about it before drastically changing the map, which btw is the only map where i’m still having fun after 1 year of the same boring conquest mode..

Honestly i don’t mind people getting high rank faster than i do. Especially when they suck at actual pvp. I earned my r34 in around 1k games and i feel i’m starting to get some nice skills here and there. I do almost only tpvp as of now and sometimes i found that i can literally perfect some r40+ players, even when i’m running strange builds that i just made up.

Rank means kitten, rank gives no rewards..what’s the problem in people farming it, when i can farm them?

Finally we got a map where standing still autoattacking with a mace isn’t enough to hold..and people start the QQ..

Maybe it’s not the most balanced map, i agree that some classes should put in a bigger effort than others playing it (bigger effort = brained positioning).

I laughed my self to death when a thief was stomping me (with my engy) standing EXACTLY on the direction to the edge. I pushed him down with my #3 downed state and he started insulting in /map. All he had to do was positioning himself 90° from where he was, he would have been pushed against the portal and stomped me 3 seconds after. Or he could have blinded me, he could have CnD stomp, he could have shadow refuge stomp, he could have shadowstep stomp, i can go on..but noobs are noobs, and they are fast to insult, slower to learn and adapt to new situations..

This map takes some brain. Don’t change it. The current conquest mode is imbalanced enough, forcing people to actually think where to go instead of just spamming skills will cause a lot of QQ, but will make a better game

(FYI, i play skyhammer 70% of the time with an ele (bunker S/F, 0 knockbacks)(well, lot of stability though^^), 10% mesmer 10% engi 10%thief, so please don’t say this is a post made by an engineer which defends his privilege, because it isn’t)

Thief is the BEST roamer in wvw. Can perma stealth with +50% movement speed while hidden, can do massive damage and control the fight as he wants.

In high level tpvp the range of the builds you can play is a bit smaller (while some classes have none, so isn’t that bad), i feel that sword/dagger thief is the best in tournaments. He’s going to get nerfed a bit tomorrow but will still be the top theif build i think.

To answer shortly to you question: yes, thief is an incredibly powerful pvp profession!

I personally use perplexity runes in my wvw roaming build. And i probably will after the (much needed) nerf. We can stack 12+ confusion without it, the increase in duration is really great for itself, having a ICD (which is probably the nerf incoming) on che confusion on interrupt won’t change anything, it will make perplexity a viable runeset for those who want to focus heavily on confusion instead of being the only choice of most people due to it’s OPness.

I don’t really get all the panic about this nerf, perplexity will still be a great runeset for engineers. No more thiefsmers probably, but that was ridiculous in the first place..

I just don’t get the increase in cd if you use it for movement.

Engi rocket boots has 20 secs cooldown and has an effect that is even better than RtL: you can jump across gaps you normally wouldn’t be able to pass, it’s a blast finisher at the start (meaning that you can leap forward in stealth in a combo field), it benefits from toolbelt +50% movement speed giving an insane distance..and everything, on a 20 sec cooldown.

Numbers are fun!

Someone, somewhere, sometime that i don’t remember proposed to change endurance regeneration to compensate the differences in “durability”, something like

- light armor classes: 150%
- medium: 125%
- heavy: 100%

That would require some changes to other mechanics (like vigor should get to 50% down from 100% e.g., and other traits/foods/buffs as well), but i think it’s a nice idea.

The main point is that a warr can go full glasscannon while still being able to sustain a huge amount of damage (especially conditions, where hp is the only factor), have access to a lot of stability and to insane condition removal (zerker stance + cleansing ire is O.o). Guardians, while being on the low side of hp, have access to insane amounts of protection and healings. These are the heavy armor ones and the toughest probably.
On the medium armor side we have theif, low hp but great evade capability / stealth, which allows him to cleanse himself from conditions and regenerate hp. Still, a (smaller than light classes) buff in endurance seems legit due to it’s really lack of hp. Engi can have perma vigor and some nice protection, but goes nowhere near the levels of guardians or warriors in terms of durability, unless build for a full bunker and sacrificing every bit of damage (a thing that war doesn’t, while being 30k+ hp). Rangers..well spirit are broken right now imo, but for the others..a buff would be ok imo.

Now light classes: the only concern is necromancer. While it has relatively poor access to vigor, stability or protection, he has the same basic hp of warriors and some powerful condition cleansing. Necro is on the OP side of PvP right now imo and we should be careful buffing it. As far of the others, mesmer has a quite poor mobility unless using a staff, some more endurance would fit it. And for ele, we’re forced into glasscannon builds if we want to deal some decent damage (which won’t allow us to join many parties in lfg, but still), we have no toughness and no hp. At least let us dodge..

A question about Conjures

Certain conjured weapons are fine in PvE, i’ve seen some uses for the hammer and ofc the bow (well, the fact that people uses only 1 skill out of 5 in the bows says a lot, but still..)
Never seen the shield nor the axe though, if not for fun.

I’m more concerned with PvP though, as of now the ele is missing 4 skills in the choice of its utilities. Sometimes, and i repeat sometimes, i use hammer in skyhammer but that’s when i’m in the mood for trolling people. The current mechanic of conjured weapons is simply not working (and needs to be reworked from scratch, maybe inspired by engi kits, buffing them like the leaks we’ve heard from the next patch won’t make any difference in PvP situations).

As of now (and again, i doubt we’ll see any changes soon), ele in pvp is completely locked into the arcana traitline and in costant attunement swapping, a thing that is prevented by the conjured weapons. And with the current mechanic, it’s simply not viable to conjure a weapon, use a couple of its skills and then drop it. It would be like putting a 1 min cooldown on the bomb kit for an engi..we (nor them) can’t afford that.

The current PvP state of the elementalist is bad by itself, the fact that a good part of our skill choice is locked due to broken mechanic is salt on our open wound..

Well, it wasn’t..looking in the first page of the mesmer forum i haven’t seen a topic with this build or anything about tpvp conditions (lots of wvw perplexity builds but nothing for tpvp), so my question was genuine..

From the answer i guess the build is ok then :P?

Hi,

After a short while of ele/engi pvp, i went back to my mesmer and i want to try something different. I always played shatterer / phantasm and i’m trying out some conditions.

Here the build i’m using:

A few explanations:

20 in domination is pretty self explanatory, i’ll be using torch a lot so lower cooldowns and cond removal seemed a good choice. plus 20% cond duration isn’t a bad thing.
20 in dueling: basically because of sharper images and deceptive evasion.
30 in chaos is mostly because of prismatic understanding, i’ll have 3 (4 with the desperate decoy) stealths so it seemed the best choice.

My questions are:
- it has a relatively low condition damage, even for pvp (1k)
- no points in illusions..meh, i could really use an additional bounce for staff (btw, does it work with staff clones in the current meta? ty) or come extra confusion duration, but not enough trait points for that..

About utilities, i can’t live without decoy so that’s not in question. Null field seemed a good choice, some heavy condition removal there and since in the current meta i see warriors/necro half the time..
Blink then..i love it, i occasionally swap it for arcane thievery but that’s very situational.

My current rank is 34 so i’ll be facing r40+ people most of the time, i already explained why the heavy condition removal in the build (lyssa runes too, i found them really great though i could probably use something different to boost my condition damage a bit)

So..what’s your opinion? Any suggested changes?
