What they lack in physical toughness, they make up in versatility and the ability to inflict massive damage in a single attack."
Massive what?
I feel overpowered every time I land a dragon tooth + phoenix + lightning strike + arcane blast + arcane wave combo..that deals a lot of damage!
…and then i go to my brother room and i see he’s dealing that damage and more with 1 backstab..
…and then he starts trolling me and logs in his warrior…
…or i see zerker necros dealing 17k dmg with a 6 1/2 seconds cooldown…and without that super predictable animation of the falling thing over your head!
But hey, don’t be sad, lucky me i have a static discharge engineer when i want some damage
I play a lot in tpvp with my ele, it can fit every role!
When i want a dps i join with my thief, when i want conditions i join with my nerco, if i’m in a mood for bunker i join with my engineer and if i’m in a mood for trolling people that’s a mesmer job.
As i said, my 500+h elementalist joins a lot right now
Didn’t see anything about it in the patchnotes either. Could be just me though..
Anyway, don’t worry guys, you can always buy tons of BL chests and use the level up items you find in there to get your alts to 80!
Ok, seriously..imo 0-400 should be the usual 10 levels, 400-500 should be like another 5. It’s definitely not gold efficient to level up beyond 400 if you only plan to level up, but who knows..
Weaponsmith 400-500 is around 200g..let’s think about it..worth 3 levels? Don’t think so..
I was planning to craft-levelup my 5th toon in these days but i’m rethinking it now..and of course, if one isn’t willing to level up more characters, he probably won’t buy more character slots, bag slots, gem store stuff for the new characters and so on..so what’s the point of the crafting nerf? Everyone looses in it, both the playerbase *and * ANet..
Any news/leaks/con announcements/etc. on which plans they have for cooking at 500? Thanks
But for a couple of really annoying bugs (camera, engineer downed autoattack on rifts that was always “obstructed”), i found Liadri and the entire gauntlet very satisfying.
It was hard, very hard. It took me some days to get past Liadri (playing it for usually not more than 1h a day, don’t like grinding things). And finally getting that achievement and that minipet was really rewarding. For one of the first times in my GW2 playtime, i felt that my skill was finally awarded, not the amount of mindless time or money i put in it.
To the ones who are still raging about her i only say don’t give up, continue trying, you’ll figure out a way to do it.
In the future, i hope we will see more “high skillcapped content” like this. Hopefully it’ll get some more testing first so we won’t end up fighting with the camera instead that with the boss, but still..thanks ANet, we really needed this.
Actually i know a lot of people who bought at least two of the same armor skin (eg. magitech) on the same character, one in pve and one for pvp. I’m not one of them (yet, i think that soon or later i’ll get one for pvp too) but i know a lot of people in my guild who did it. So i don’t expect anything like endless skins soon..
Thanks man, really nice video. I have a couple of questions on your build though: elixir gun is very strong due to it’s healing and cond removal but I feel that the acid bomb sometimes takes me out of the point in those maps where the points are little (well, everywhere but graveyard). I tried the build with a guild mate and in open space he almost couldn’t take me below 90%, while fighting on the point i took a lot of damage due to the low mobility and the lack of knockbacks of the build.
I’m pretty new to bunker engi so i’m pretty sure it was my bad, i’m used to a bomb+flamethrower bunker build (and i feel the lack of cond removal there though). Any tips on how to increase my sustainability with your build? I kept using the gear shield on the toolking trying to time it against enemy bursts, avoiding elixir s when possible since it decaps the point.
Thanks!
I run WvW with a statid discharge build atm and here is what i think:
- invigorating speed >> protection injection, you’ll have perma vigor and since you’ll be basically a glasscannon avoiding hits >> taking 33% lower damage
- rifle mod is a must have. 10% more damage? yes please. I don’t feel the need of sitting duck though..i’d also swap go for the eyes for rifled barrels, but that’s more my playstile (and more WvW oriented than sPvP i think)
Skills:
- I use healing turret instead of med kits, but this isn’t a game changer
- Rocket boots are a gorgeous utility but a rather poor discharge imo. The animation of the rocket kick almost CCs you..i’d go for the ram or the rifle turret instead.
Runes:
- i’d go for air, but this is highly questionable:P
I never have TP issues but when someone in my house is stressing the connection downloading/uploading something big. The slightest lag and the TP stops working, even if the in-game lag is barely noticeable.
I’ll check your build, thanks for the advice. I never liked the elixir gun too much but maybe it’s just me
Hi,
I recently switched from an HGH condition build to a more tanky one. I’m having some issues though, in particular when fighting other condition builds.
This is what i’m running right now:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIq6Zn1SgF1LJxoCdO0jCbY1KSR+t8nCyF-ToAg2CpIuRdj7GzNybs3M+Y2A
My questions hare: how do i hold a point against a terrormancer? This build has no stunbreaker so he basically blow my cond removal cooldowns, and then full nukes my of fear and conditions. Pretty much the same against other engineers.
The lack of stability and stunbreakers is a huge flaw in my build, i know. I tried going for elixir S instead of C but i end up with the sole turret as a condition removal which is not even close to being enough these days, too many necros around.
I tried getting rid of flamethrowser (which is really good though, blind, knockback plus some decent burn uptime) for both elixir S and C and it was a little better but nothing big.
Coming from an HGH build where i had so much cond removal that some necro whisped me “nice cheater” (really happened lol), i can’t figure out a way to survive with this build.
Any comment and tip will be greatly appreciated, skills, traits, runes, neck everything can be questioned here
Thanks folks!
One of the best engi video i’ve ever seen.
Really great, thanks!
+1, total support to this thread!
Another step to the improvement of the engineer is to differentiate among races. The actual backpack kits doesn’t feel right on asuras, for example..they are rude, not enough lights and tech stuff
In addition to what has already been said, limited time listings would increase inflation imo.
Why? They would create more gold.
As you all know selling via tp destroys gold due to fees. As other players have said, I played MMOs with limited listings too and what used to happen was exactly what they described: after a short while, I ended up selling to npc so at least I stop wasting my moneys in listing fees.
Selling to npcs creates gold. And there is no need to explain how bad this would be for the economy, where the majority of transaction on the TP aren’t the exotics, those you’ll still sell in the TP but lower priced materials (think about those mats which sell in the tp for a very little profit, but still a profit..now i’m listing them, if i had to sell in a day or lose my fee i’ll simply drop them to npcs. Increasing their price due to the loss of supply and introducing in the game more gold)
The whole idea of removing listings after a short while would damage casual TP users, while being of no effect on flippers.
Why?
I used to flip some items so i could pay the bills (and the t3 armor for my two asuras) and i ensure you that my item never listed for more than 1h. It’s simple, the fastest you sell, even with a low margin, the fastest you can reinvest your money and the more you gain. So the gold sink of relisting items would never affect those players.
On the other side there is a very consistent amount of players that do not spend 30 min every morning, just after waking up, roaming gw2spidy and sites like that. Those players can be new to the whole game or simply don’t enjoy playing the TP. I was one of them in the first time, months ago. No need to say that i listed some things at prices that were too high (undercutting by 1c the lowest listing but it probably was a moment of peak). The mats i listed sold 2 months later. It wasn’t much, i didn’t need to relist and i left them hanging there.
Now, these are the two main realities in our game: “professional” traders and “casual” traders. Adding a time limit to TP would (badly?) hurt the second category, while it would be of no impact on the first.
That’s why we won’t be seeing it, ANET is trying to keep the game balanced for casual players and, anyway, even if they introduce it, it wouldn’t change much for flippers, which are the most hated category in this forum, every day a lot of posts on how to nerf their profit comes out (mostly due to envy and spite in my opinion..)
Since the incoming changes to dungeon (btw, needed changes, finally) gold won’t be dropping from bosses anymore. Will there be a use for these infusion? I always found them really useful while running CoF or CoE so i dumped 40 laurels on them.
Any guesses?
I’m just speculating but..
Cof nerf → less gold for buying t6 → lower demand → lower prices.
If you plan to buy them and you aren’t a mindless grinder warrior who stays in cof ’till his eyes bleeds and more, this is going to help.
What’s the point of your topic..?
Usually people come on the forum to discuss things, not to say “gtfo from my thread”..
Wanna some tip on a specific build? Wanna some help against necros? Wanna learn something? So far i’ve seen a pile of close minded comments on every reply by the community..what do you want from us..? You want us to say “yeah you’re right”?
Honestly i couldn’t, since i beat necros with my PVE build simply changing one utility and a trait..
I beg you, keep up topics like these! We live in a sad world, some fun is much needed!
Btw, I play mostly mesmer and our guild 1v1 tournament gets close. We have a bunch of very skilled necro players (champion phantom and so on, since you like refering to achievements and things as such). None of then can beat my phantasm 1v1 build. No terrormancer, no dhuunfire no nothing, there is simply no way. If you build up for fighiting necros, you can have so much condition removal, so much direct damage from phantasm, so much survivability they’ll never get you under 50% hp.
Apart from the necro thing, i feel that mesmer is one of the strongest 1v1 classes. Check out some builds and some tutorials, that’s gonna help you a lot. Skill is something you acquire in time, usually not spending much time on the forum writing (reading can help though) but playing..
Soloed evon t4 right now with a static discharge engi build.
Took me 3 or 4 trials though..
How do you know they plan on re-releasing sentinel?
I think they’re making an assumption that if they’re going to re-release MWF as a fractal that the azurite and sentinel’s will come back with it as loot.
No, Arenanet stated that Azurite would be returning. It wasn’t just a one-time thing. Also, Sentinel equipment (tied to Azurite), was going to make an appearance again.
Citation needed (wikipedia ftwXD)
I’m currently using 10/30/0/30/0 too, at least in tPvP, with Sw/Sw + Sw/P.
Basically I let my phantasms do the job while I keep at range until ILeap and Blurred Frenzy are off cd, then I go for some burst, then range again. Swap weapons every time it’s not in cooldown. Abuse IRisposte and magic bullet do avoid some damage and keep pressure due to the cc/burst (IRisposte damage is often underrated imo)
Having swords in both MH may not be the best choice, especially after blurred frenzy and IC nerf (for ILeap), but it fits my playstile better than gs i think, at least in tpvp where you usually have to stay in the conquest point.
On dueling line i pick fury for phantasms and both sword and pistol cd reduction.
I’ve given a shot to the new builds with IC but i feel that 15% damage boost in domination to be better than IC especially since phantasmal haste seems not a very reliable trait (always felt buggy for me, but maybe it’s just me that can’t test it right)
At least 20 in dueling is a no choice for me, sword cooldowns are a must have, especially since i really like playing Sw/Sw
In tPvP I tend be a really reliable source of single target burst damage so usually my target can’t focus on killing my illusions (and then IC is not that great of a choice imo) since it can’t play full offensive or he dies (but for grenades engi and so on, against high aoe this spec simply doesn’t work thanks to the STUPID (i’m not use to these words on forums but this is really it) nerf to vengeful images)
Again, this build really fits my playstyle, it probably won’t be the optimal build but hey, it’s all about having fun here!
…rewarding!
So, laurels? Lot of money? Endless supply of really cool skins? Tons of free boosters?
I think this is one of the few times in my MMO story that something added to reward players feels so rewarding, not the usual one time one character rewards that i end up not even using since i can’t decide on which char put it on.
Thanks ANet!
It’s just like dragon pignatas: 30 is fun, 300 is mindless grinding. 5-10 effigies is fun, 50 forces you to do the same effigies more than once..where’s the fun in that..?
I use to run around with a fully MF geared thief in DE like the recent southsun living world or orr and i have to say that i do notice the difference. Not much in rare drops, not really in exotics too since the chance is so low that MF doesn’t really help.
But there is a imo big difference in t6 drops instead of t5, and that’s totally worth it.
Plus, MF gear is really cheap. You don’t need exotics. You won’t be running dungeons with it due to the poor defensive stats or the low critical damage output. You’ll basically run full MF in situations where killing is not an issue, mobs average lifespan is like 3 seconds..you hit them with an aoe, and loot. That’s what MF is for, imo. And it works, pretty kitten well too.
+1
Message Body length must at least be 15.
Just a quick question: does compounding power increase damage dealt by phantasms too or only by the mesmer? Ty
Ok, thanks to all for your feedback.
I think that for now i’ll just go on stacking mats and things for generic gifts and then i’ll decide, we are all hoping to see pistol in MH soon or later
Hi,
I tried surfing youtube for some images of the legendary pistol on a mesmer but i didn’t find any.
Is it worth? Since it’s an offhand only, you almost never use it, save for the magic bullet. Does having the quip equipped modify the iDuelist attack? That would probably be worth it, but still i can’t find any video about it and i don’t see a lot of mesmers in game with that pistol (actually i never saw one, that’s why i’m posting here)
Thanks!
I’m curious, i was following a discussion in /map and (as always) everyone had his own opinion about this.
Some were saying that taking money for transporting people with mesmer portal is against rules and so it’s bannable. Is it true..? Some instead were saying that is only forbitten to ask for money, not to receive it as a free donation. I can go on posting other’s opinions but i think my question is clear now
Thanks!
While i would gladly play something like this, it seems extremely OP..
They just nerfed confusion ‘cause it was too strong (or because too many people with no brain plague our pvp..it depends on who you ask), so a huge buff to confusion like this simply won’t happen..
Up with this, scepter needs major rework in the next patch! (i’m not going to repeat what it needs, just read the topic, a lot of good points have been made..)
I wonder if Confusion would be easier to balance if it both had tick damage and also dealt damage upon enemy skill use.
That’s not confusion. That’s not the mesmer.
Mesmer was my favorite class in gw1 and i played with empathy and that other one which dealt damage upon casting, can’t remember now..return of flame or something like that..
In gw1, you had to stop immediately else you die. And that was fine..
My gw1 mesmer had NO direct damage skills, it was all about counter (monks, mainly). Confusion tries to do the same. Changing it would be changing the mesmer..
(My bro just said, seeing me reply to this: “the main problem is that a lot of people here doesn’t come from gw1 but from WoW, and therefor they are complete noobs that can’t play w/o their bladestorm”..so much truth in that..confusion is a mechanic new to the people who didn’t play gw1 but changing it is not the answer..they’ll get use to it, or die in the attemp)
After this patch i went confusion again, just to try it out and see what really changed.
With my build i can easily stack 15, even 20 confusion in a burst. (iDuelist in a field, pistol 5, CoF, scepter 3 and so on..)
I think confusion is not balanced yet, it does way to much damage. There is this warrior who has a ton of confusion on him and he finally gets in melee range with me. Yeah you know what he did..hundred blades, let’s kick this mesmer out of my control point. And he died screaming.
So ANET plz nerf confusion, ppl without brain still die of it, it’s not yet balanced..
(or do i have to tell of that tournament where this shortbow ranger pops quickness while with 10+ confusion AND in a feedback bubble? nerf feedback too if you please..it’s OP)
Ok, seriously..confusion (same for retaliation i think) will always be a source of QQ, no matter how they nerf it. There is a lot of people out there who has no idea on how to play pvp. They have no cond removal, they don’t even look at conditions on them.
Against skilled people confusion is nothing more that a CC, if you die of it well it’s simply your problem..not a lack of balance but a lack of brain instead
Hi!
On ubisoft forums there is this great feature which allows to see, in a topic, the first messages and then all the admin, moderators etc. messages, without other players messages.
I spend some time browsing topics with the red mark of an “official answer” searching in the various pages the answer itself, and this feature would be really nice.
What do you guys think? I’m the only one intrested in reading directly what the devs/mods think about something?
…and not 8-bit please!
I hate to complain about things, i really don’t like people spending their time on the forum instead of playing the awesome game we have, but still..
In the last months spvp had almost no change. This rytlock’s new thing made me think a lot about ANET priorities and i’m quite disappointed.
Please, give us some new spvp mode. Deathmatch (FFA would be awesome lol), team deathmatch, a real ctf scenario (spirit watch doesn’t really count imo..)
I know it’s easier to add some new level in the SAB than to think a new pvp mode and keep it balanced but cmon..pvp is getting so booring..
That’s weird..are you using the lvl 80 transmutation stone? I had no problem, just drag and drop the two items (the starting flame and my ac headpiece), select appearance from the first, stats and rune from the second and that’s it..
Porblem!!
Starting head peice do not have rune slots so you wont be able to mix them with a high level item (unless you give up the rune).
Just for future reference: i just transmuted it to my exotic headpiece, no problem in converting the rune to it^^
Hi all,
i know that i’m probably wasting my time but it can’t hurt to ask.
Is there any way at all to reacquire the starting headpiece (e.g. the flaming jewel floating in front of my head) if i deleted it?
Months ago when i first changed it i deleted it since i thought that i had no use for it..i loved it’s skin but hei, no stats..
I would really love to transmute it on my nice exotic headpiece..so..is there any way i can put my hands on one?
Thanks..
Glad i’m not the only one that doesn’t like incinerator as it is now..i hope in the future some changes (or, why not, a new legendary dagger) will happen
Hi all,
I’m at that point in the game when you realize that you are getting closer to a legendary weapon, my bank is almost full of everything and so on.
So, since i play mostly d/d ele, i decided to take a look at the legendary dagger.
I must say i was disappointed when i first saw the effect of it on ele skills. Fire 1st skill throws daggers, water 1st skill throw a dagger, everything feels the same now..
Am i the only one who feels this way about the (only) legendary dagger? The footstep looks amazing but i really can’t stand that throwing daggers thing..
What do you think?
+1 to this.
Stop adding new currencies plz!
Speaking of t3 armor, i’m the only one that doesn’t like the head piece removing hairs..? I have these cool loking newly colored hairs and i’m not showing any head right now but i think it would be great to have t3 over hairs..
And oh, i forgot a thing..(someone just said it earlier but i think it has to be repeated)
If you have played less than..let’s say, 10 hours with a class, you are not ready to go on the forum and cry “OP! OP! Can’t be countered!”
Providing that you learn very quick, 10 hours are the least you need to fully understand a class (and when i say “fully” i mean that you know every single choice you have, every single boon you can get during a fight and so on)
I had no idea on how to counter a mesmer with my thief ad the beginning. I rolled a mesmer (and i loved it so much it became my main char but that’s another story^^) and suddenly all it’s secrets were revealed.
I think i have now 300+ hours of pvp on gw2 and 1/3 of my cake graph is violet, around 1/4 is elementalist and the other is almost equally distributed on other classes.
Believe me, you won’t be able to counter skilled people if you never played their class.
I play both mesmer and d/d ele and here’s what i think:
As a mesmer, i usually have no problems killing a d/d ele (yes, mesmer have probably the best boon removal in the game). They have a decent toughness and some hp but they rely on regen and protection for survivability and their damage isn’t just enough to be a danger if you can keep them in the distance (again, that’s not hard with mes, we have some nice mobility too through blink, sword 3, staff 2). Get rid of regen and protection and it’s almost done.
As a d/d ele (i’m running a classical 0/10/0/30/30 with soldier gear + healing and boon duration runes and jewel) i can easily kill basically every glasscannon class, though i can’t kill bunkers nor brained people who can avoid a ring of fire or escape a churning earth. So how can you defeat a skilled d/d ele without being a shatter mesmer? Well, it depends a lot on what you mean by “defeating”. If you are a bunker guardian, you have no way of killing it. But you’ll probably have more knockbacks than he has (actually we have just air 5 and it’s on a very long cooldown), you’ll throw him out of the point and in spvp he’ll be forced to change point.
People say that d/d ele has too means of escape. Well, if he escapes you have defeated him, right?
My point is: there are different ways of defeating a class. d/d ele focus a lot on his survival but much less on his damage output (which is largely based on easily avoidable aoes imo, if you get hit by a churning earth or a ring of fire, if you take 100% of a dragon breath, if you keep being stunned by air 3 aura..well you’re doing it wrong).
Imo (well, here you’ll all say “ofc you play d/d ele”) there’s no need of a nerf here. We are just facing a different bunker build and most of the people has yet to understand how to counter it. It’s aoe damage and it’s healing skills make the d/d ele a different bunker from a usual guardian, people just need to spend more time 1v1 with a d/d friend that writing here on the forum imo..
Well, i’m not very deep into condition mesmer since i use to play a power shatter or a power mantra build but..
This is what i think about the build, anyone correct me if i’m wrong:
- compounding power: i read in many posts that this is not affecting condition damage. So..if you run a condition build you probably want to pick up master of misdirection instead
- illusionary elasticity: you don’t have it in your build but since you’re using a staff it’s a must have imo, it greatly increases your dps providing you can stay in a mid-close range from your target
- confusing combatants: i’m not sure if it’s worth it, in a pve situation mobs attacks are so slow that there are better ways to spend that 5 trait points (as going deeper in illusions for illusionary elasticity for example)
- phantasmal fury: well, this is really a matter of opinions..i find this trait not very useful since your iWarlock is not a reliable source of bleeds from crits (too slow, and it deals almost no damage without power and crit dmg) and the iWarden will almost istantly get killed if he starts dealing crits in a mob zerg. I would probably go for desperate decoy but as i said, this is a really open issue..
I’d save the 10 points in dominion too, spamming staff 2 gives you a lot of mobility and in many pve situations (but from solo i guess) you won’t need that extra kite.
Utility: signet of domination isn’t really a good choice imo. The stun is not that useful in a pve situation and it negates the passive bonus, which is not that good compared to other utilities imo. I would probably pick some condition removal instead (null field is a great support in dungeon)
If you aren’t planning on shatters (and you aren’t, as you said) mirror image is probably a major overkill. I’d pick blink instead, i can’t really play without it. There are so many situation in which is a ground breaking skill..you can blink away from a aoe, you can be crippled or immobilized that doesn’t matter. You can teleport and rez your downed buddies, you can blink on reflecting cristals in fractal and do some lame stuffs you’ll learn in time:P
As for the elite, pick up time warp. There is really no point in using the moa in a pve situation (neither in pvp actually imo..but nvm). There are some situations (cof p1 bridge skipping, exploring and so on) where you will pick up mass invis insted, but time warp will be your main choice 9 time out of 10.
As i stated at the beginning, i’m not really deep into condition mesmer so take what i said as it is..
And of course, there are a lot of better mesmers than me here, hope to read what they say too so i can learn a thing or two myself^^
Uhm do u know what dps means..?
Probably not..
Damage Per Second..19000 dps means that you can keep up 19000 damage every second for how long..? i’d say 10 secs, that’s my definition of dps.
I run a full berserker shatter mesmer and ofc there is no way you can keep up that kind of damage. I can burst a blue geared lvl 15 in WvW for..12-15k with a shatter combo..and then i’ll have to wait for a lot of cooldowns..yeah, i have 19k dps too man..
