Gear threadmill… that’s a good one.
Some people mistake a walk over a bump for a threadmill.
Real threadmills have you getting gear to do content to get the next tier of gear, to do content that gives yet another tier of gear.
That’s not how it is in GW2 right now.
You have a point, in GW2 it’s just crap loot drops from here to eternity.
Do the hardest content – get crap loot.
Do the easiest content – get crap loot.
Do a grind – get crap loot.
Do LS storylines – get crap loot.
Do dungeons – get crap loot.Do all of the above hundreds of times over and over again and get nothing but crap loot.
A gear grind GW2 is definitely not because that would mean that sometimes something decent will drop for you.
And after a couple of thousand hours playing, I can assure you that this is not the case.
Don’t get me wrong, I play the game because it is fun – for the moment – but it’s starting to wear thin. Personally I am about out of content that is worth doing (or that I feel like doing) and the fun is starting to drain away from it – and yes, endless crap loot is putting me off logging in.
The old “I’d like to be rewarded for the effort” just doesn’t apply to this game anymore and over and above everything, this is what is making me look forward to my next MMO.
Well said. You’d think that after playing thousands of hours and trying different kinds of content while also becoming pretty decent with it you would have accumulated enough for one legendary and ascended set for AT LEAST ONE of your 8 characters but that is not the case with this game.
You’re forced to do daily grind and perhaps spend some real money to get gems → gold to purchase precursor and materials for ascended gear. It’s so ridiculous it makes my head explode if I think about it too much. And how Anet originally described this game was no grind and max stat gear for about everyone. Well that’s not how it works it seems. No wonder people are disappointed.
Teachers getting lazier every year. I’m pretty much internet geek but I fondly remember times at school when there was no computers and internet. We actually learned things, you know. Not everything needs to be fun and have a carrot inside.
Most intelligent people left this game at least when they told there will be no expansion and introduced time gated grinding content like ascended gear, just for example.
It basically means there will be no meaningfully large chunks of new content, like ever. No new pvp forms, no new areas, no new anything special. And if you want high end stuff for your pve/wvw heroes you need to go buy gold (to cover all that leet cost for materials) with gems, which again, cost real money.
If I didn’t just enjoy casually bashing something without further meaning while waiting for ESO or something else maybe possibly playable, I wouldn’t be posting here :p It’s a shame a game with a lot of promising features feels so kittened and frustrating.
Retaliation is a good example how things have been nerfed and buffed with little regard to how they affect on builds or gameplay.
Retaliation used to be one of viable ways to prevent being whacked up for necromancer but it is not very effective nowadays. Basically everything which allowed you to avoid or make opponents not hit you was nerfed into oblivion for necros. More or less by accident.
I do agree, however, that retaliation needed a little change. There just wasn’t anything to replace what you lost for those builds which used it.
Necros for ZERG are as ok as any other class. Mostly because you can keep up the lifeforce with parasitic bond there.
For anything else necros are not really that good even if you go direct damage. Especially in wvw mode they lack sustainability and situtational damage evasion unless you go with the giant ball of rolling corpses aka zerg.
Dhuumfire “op” build works fine in spvp but that’s only like one build with some variations. And then there’s one kind of minion master but rest is pretty weak. And wvw is not even close to spvp so that should probably go on different forum.
Guardian or warrior can do 100 times better and easier, even though they are not invincinble killing machines but if you happen to lose 1v1 or something you don’t feel like it’s fault of your class mechanics being just lame.
I agree. It shouldn’t be up to difficult targeting system if you hit the target or not. Mesmer clones have pretty much same problem than army of minions and pets. You just cannot hit the right target since you would need to cycle through so many targets. Once you finally manage to tab to the right one they go stealth or make another clone etc. whatever breaks the target again and cycle starts all over.
OR if it’s meant to be defensive mechanic to have clunky targeting then reduce other defensive mechanics so mesmers have to rely on tab targeting as their defense so if you ever manage to tab to the right one you can at least hit them once or twice.
As it is now it’s more like endless cycle of target breaking.
And to be honest in my opinions mesmers should not be able to make so many clones. I think it should require more clever timing than just spamming the clones around like madman.

Knowing necro bugs it just might occassionally.
offhand dagger still has its merits.
Other than that a lot has changed.
Regarding >>>Leaving a Transform – no heals/until buttons for 1sec + lag.
I remember this popping up not too long ago, but can’t remember where we left off on it. I’ve been playing Necro a lot lately and it has been bothering me, too. I’ll talk to the guys on Monday and see what this is all about, and see about taking care of it.
I think it was mentioned at some point there was a cooldown added to prevent unwanted skill executions when leaving a transformation. But again, I’m not sure if this was intended for Death Shroud.

This “feature” pretty much prevents you from healing after you exit DS, which is exactly what you usually want to do to not die. I do not know what other things exactly changed but sometimes you just die instantly anyway on huge condistack.
All in all those DS “fixes” presented a good bunch of new problems you’ll run into when you run into “tight” situtations where extra 1 second or block could save you etc. It is still very frustrating.
The constant new grinds require more than my entire playtime, with no chance to catch up to the vertical power creep, I’m considering giving up. Players who enjoy wvw and play for that, especially those with jobs/lives, fall further behind with every patch.
GW2 seems to have broken several of it’s core design promises: it’s a very grindy game, with pay for power items like wxp boosters, constant and unending vertical power creep, and you can’t ‘play it your way’ u have to follow the reward modes. Talk about U-turn!
What he says.
I used to like WvW a lot and put plenty of my time into playing GW2 WvW.
But since ascended stats came into game I haven’t really been able to keep my stats up to some acceptable level so I could have fun.
I really don’t even have a single ascended backpiece yet since it needs too much FOTM grind and it’s only way to get it.. yeah you could use mystic forge but that’s way too much gold for casual pver like me.
Grind for ascended gear and RNG for legendaries are just really too much for me and I really believe it’s way too much for many other people too. And then there’s million things you need to do daily that it leaves no time for actually playing the game.
I still log in occassionally to do some pve couple of times a week, but I think I am pretty much done with any kind of daily gameplay and wvw or pvp in this game for time being. I just cannot force myself to just log in to do some daily stuff to get the gear I want. Or go grind fotm/daily bosses whatever you name it… It is just ridiculous. It’s not fun.
I think someone forgot that necromancers use light armor and take like 50% more damage per hit by default than let’s say warrior, have little to no access to protection/evade/block and are somewhat vulnerable to stun etc. Not to mention while in DS your defense is near to nothing.
You can make something like pvt minion master “tank” ok, but other than that it’s pretty ridiculous.
My feeling is that DS “extra hp” doesn’t scale well for builds which don’t especially focus on having a ton of armor/hp/defensive cc etc. Also DS still has that huge problem of not getting back after it got bursted down by some random spike you just couldn’t evade. Not even getting to the conditions going through DS part. It’s so sad.
EHP is not comparable to anything since in this game you can and should evade damage completely at first place. Having a lot of EHP cannot compete with evading all the damage in any way, not even near.
even power necro relies on cc conditions in pvp so more condition removal and whatanot is not really going to make it better for anyone. getting little life siphon buff only helps marginal group who want to focus on life siphoning, it doesn’t really help with general problems with death shroud after mechanic changes.
Ascended gear and who knows what other upcoming gear alone makes wvw not balanced enough. Exotic gear was like oh well okay I get them some day.
Ascended gear is like oh yeah, 8 characters, good luck getting one weapon set until next year for ONE of them, unless you go pve and grind yourself to death every day. And don’t forget to log in daily, it makes you bad if you don’t.
Too much daily grind in this game.
spectral armor lost most of it’s usefulness with spectral skill internal cooldowns like spectral walk also which is now only marginally useful for anything.
only right solution would be to make them work somewhat as they were. or in similar manner with shorter skill cooldowns or whatsoever. now they are not fine as they are.
boo.
Problem, in my opinion, is that only even remotely interesting PvP form in this game has been WvW and Anet doesn’t even handle it as PvP but PvE. WvW itself also focuses too much on massive combat to be fun.
In my opinion there should have been different forms of “WvW” from very beginning like for example:
GvG = organized group fights (15-30 ppl)
Alliance v Alliance = massive group fights, mostly for multiple guilds
WvW = casual solo/group fights, mostly for small separate groups in very open environment
I have no direct answer or suggestion how this should have been done but here’s some ideas what I’ve thought or gathered from others:
GvG = should be a lot like in GW1, with some changes of course.
Alliance vs Alliance = would be somewhat like current WvW but teams would be premade for single match with time limit = even numbers. Of course you could join this as long as you can make one full party. Party requests to join squad in queue etc.
WvW = you could make raiding party to go against other servers to cause havoc on some explorable maps. of course this would be somehow limited.
I really don’t see anything like this happen in near future though :P It’s really sad how there is no GUILD HALLS or GvG in GUILD WARS.
it should be pretty obvious why direct damage is better than conditions in pve.
it’s more like dungeon/critter design problem than difference between total dmg potential. and always have to remember conditions also provide a lot more useful side-effects too.
i am assuming here that we’re talking about pve since it’s pretty obvious conditions are sort of better in pvp atm.
it’s just a tad bit difficult to get to use the dagger, like most of the time, for various reasons. Except maybe npcs.
I count dagger in mostly for life force gain at close range if you don’t have enough range to make better use with axe. Even though dagger also does nice dmg, but like said there’s many reasons which prevent you from using dagger.

mesmer is fine part must be a joke. it has never been fine since launch. not saying some other classes wouldn’t be in need of balancing this and that but some mesmer skills have been over the top since launch, particularly greatsword in general, but some others too. now they are just overshadowed by constant condition spam by pretty much everything including condimesmers probably too. although pretty hard to say what’s balanced atm since oh kitten like everything seems crazy.
Skyhammer farm has been going on since they introduced skyhammer.
It’s funny and I personally find skyhammer extremely boring.
It gives a good general impression about the state of pvp in gw2 though: It’s all about skyhammer farm.
Then there’s these pvp rewards which are more like a joke but that’s another matter…
It would not be balanced over PvE if it was competitive.
WvW is merely a way to kill your time at best.
This is not a bad thing, as long as it’s made for fun. I am just not sure if even devs know what they want to be fun there. There’s so many this and that there and it tries to do a lot of things while not doing anything reliably.
As far as I see it WvW is most fun when there’s 0 organized groups on map and everyone is going their merry ways doing some strange stuff. When you get commanders and organized groups on map it turns into karmatrain rolling over this and that side being not much different to farming npc’s in queen’s gauntlet.
Windows 7 ultimate
IE10 and firefox (whatever is newest version)
every other program should be latest version too
I tried disabling pop-up blocker, disabled firewall and anti-virus. Cleared cache.
No effect.
This seems like a website problem. Can we get this fixed. It shouldn’t take longer than coffee break for some code monkey.
I think Enfeebling blood was too strong on its weakness duration post-weakness buff (in PvP). It gave pretty ridiculous weakness uptime for a single skill cast, AoE.
It also has 15 second cooldown. If you go compare it to other skills which cause weakness it really wasn’t that “impressive”.
I am just hoping there’s also stealth buff to internal cooldown to drop it to 10 seconds.
The thing I am concerned is wrecking overall any decent defence apart being low armor massive hunk of hitpoints taking massive damage in less that couple of seconds without any decent ways to avoid it as it has currently become that.
Makes me want to stick a needle in my eyes sometimes.
i just seems odd to me people didn’t realize problems earlier, most of them have been there since launch.
necro staff has always been spamspamspam. nothing changed. it was that way. they just boosted condis for more spamspamspam.
same for burning. it has been very strong for some classes. it was clearly seen it was going to be over the top for necro. it’s still there now. why?
npc summons have been annoying with the targeting system since launch. still nothing done with it. because mesmer clones and game engine probably.
gw2 has been fun but recent changes haven’t really made it more interesting for anyone loving pvp in any form other than funny “snowball spam” games. it’s sad for such potential to get wasted tbh.
Necromancer was fun to play and felt pretty much balanced before changes this spring/summer, except slight sustain problems with DS.
Necro got boosts on some skills which were not really asked for much. And at shortly after some skills which were considered just OK by most were nerfed pretty much into oblivion. Just because new boosts made some metabuilds incredibly strong.
Is there any plans on addressing the real problems necromancer has now like weakness against burst/focus/dying while exiting DS/LF generation being funny at best.. list could go on..
And most of all is DS “dancing” going to be viable in some form again in future now that most of old traits related to it have been shafted directly or indirectly?
you can make it work if you absolutely like to play necro i.e. play min/max metabuild and actually know how to play it too.
other than that necros are useless in every part of the game and it’s getting nerfbat even more in future just in case someone even considers to play necro.
there’s light years difference between the difficulty setting when you compare it to other classes. almost any other class is better at 1v x situtations and necro doesn’t really shine in 1v1 either against anyone who actually knows what buttons to press to attack.
shield is okay but try focus instead of shield, especially if you want dps.
shield is very defensive if you count out pushing ppl.
no guardian should run pvt gear, ever
this thread has to be a joke
mesmer downed state is already one of the actually powerful ones.
with direct damage thief/mesmer is good as long as you guys can just annihilate everything before you die.
guardians/dd eles are good at keeping you alive, engis are not usually very good or they don’t know how to play i’ve no clue why it doesn’t seem to work since i don’t play engi.
leash range it just ridiculous like longbow max range too
otherwise it’s ok since AI is too dumb, but pets really seem to follow you till world ends.
They said they want to make situtational use of skills matter more but where we ended was actually worse.
This is just one example but I loved to play my direct damage necromancer BEFORE this dhuumfire fiasko. Soon after they changed everything so much that it has become a pain to play it. My CC (cripple/weakness/chill just to mention few) doesn’t seem to matter because of over-cleansing or just passive cleansing and I get tons of conditions on my face at same time. Even though I do a lot of direct damage any good warrior just laughs at me because I would need CC to keep myself alive and they can just shrug it off while bashing my face with stun etc. And if that wasn’t enough they changed DS in a way that you would need to use attacks to get LF, but oh gawd how when you can’t see target or you’re stunned.
I have to totally agree with this video to some point. I don’t think evades would need to be like lot less by base value though, however vigor/sigil of energy combined with some traits really work too well for some classes, just like mesmer who just keeps dodging around and creating more clones from nothing. If you take a guy without all those energy buffs they can dodge maybe 2-3 times and they’re out they really need to think when to push that dodge then.
Another thing which I spotted worth having some attention imho is that there is just way too many things around and you would need to have some kind of at least 7th sense to dodge. Like think about blinking thief with backstabs/warrior stun etc.etc. or when you fight at some control point it’s just full of CC how you time any dodges there is like.. huh?? You just press dodge and hope it was at right time by knowing combo chains etc. It’s not really something you can visually see before it hits you really.
just imho.
imho you are trying to do too many things at same time.
i would focus on dmg gear and traits if i wanted to do dmg.
it makes difference.
I don’t want them taking the easy way out either and slapping on some defensive boons or giving a gimmicky defensive mechanic to a weapon. I want them to fix our death shroud and the other skills they tout as ’defensive" that we have, but are really just space fillers.
this
After failing with powermance I swapped to rabid gear with dhuumfire and signet of spite + blood is power + signet of locust + lich form
p1 is pretty clear with any build just walk in right place and pull visions there
p2 daze with horn + signet of spite + blood is power → start kiting use lich form when it seems you need stability, use DS to shrug off damage and add torment etc. it’s really easy since you can just focus on aoe pattern most of the time. Add a bit of condis with scepter and more blood is power if first one didn’t kill her already.
now once i completed this with condibuild i am sure i could do it also with powermancer now when i know what happens there in p2 but condibuild is much easier for sure.
also make sure you disable post processing in graphics settings. it removes that annoying blur/blind effect completely. they shouldn’t have put it in there at first place imho. it’s even more annoying while playing necro since you don’t have any block/evade if you get stuck in middle of aoe by accident or whatever random multiplier.
i am sure 8 orbs is doable once you figure out how p2 works but i am not really going to torment myself with it. there’s more fun stuff to do elsewhere.
power necro with zerk gear does OK dmg and has some great conditions. condi damage builds are just slow to apply dmg no matter what class.
necro doesn’t need vigor
necro needs something to be like it was before DS nerfanage. or at least have some survivability in decent level while using DS or elite polymorphs (lol no condiremoval while polymorphed oh gee).
looking at this liadri boss and other things they should really balance content in a way also some other than lol spvp metacondinecro can do it and be useful.
it’s so much up to luck how you get the orb spawns and when you get hit by cripple
i’ve got her down to 10% few times just waiting for lucky run…
DS flashing is ineffective due to the fact DS mechanics had practically total makeover without devs realising the total effect of their “little” changes, it seems… or they just wanted to make it so anyway. I am betting on latter since anyone with half brain spotted the possible horror of these changes long before patch hit live.
Traits themselves work fine and in that sense they are useful, but you won’t be able to use those in a way you used to.
That is one or many things what got a kind of nerfbat in latest patches. Like mentioned above tankier option seems more viable (as in you might beat NPC kind of viable) atm.
zerk doesn’t work well for pvp since latest changes you die too fast and no easy ways to avoid dmg except dodging.
knight/zerk combo does ok in wvw but you lose dps → you still don’t do well, but you can handle some upscaled guy.
spvp knights seems to work okish but still lose dps → you don’t do so well, you can whack up some newbies on hotjoin though.
of course if you’re masochist you can go zerk all day long but it makes you hit your head on keyboard a lot.
you can use zerk fine for standard pve dungeons/explorable but if in organized group you don’t need might runes or blood is power on you since there should be guardian/warrior etc giving might buffs. it should be better in most cases just bring consistent dps buff like dmg runes/orbs and that power signet whatevs = more dmg with max might stacks
lotsa text
I’ve been suggesting that GS might be a little bit too strong since launch (in pvp or pve or whatever) when I played mesmer for a while. I don’t want to point on some specific thing anymore since I don’t play mesmer anymore but when you put together all skills on GS and mesmer abilities it is maybe too much.
And to topic I really don’t think mesmers are not viable. I don’t really know much about this so called “top level” tournaments or whatsoever but if “top” teams cannot figure out how to use them is not really reason to add more power to them.
boosting useless builds is not the answer, they can be made a little bit more viable but more important thing is to also nerfbat some specific things which are clearly stupidly good (i.e. clearly overused, if some class is using weapon x 99% of time there can be something wrong, should be no brainer) but in same time NOT nerfing something else in process.
it is very usual mistake to take easy way and buff something else even more powerful thinking it is the other things are bad not this specific thing being too good. i’ve seen this happen in so many games.
sometimes people just farm glory for achievement points by capping points and killing each other on empty map with no intention to actually play :p
i don’t see much point on that though since glory gets you absolutely nothing really.
heh i don’t even..
Taking in count the range and cc longbow has it’s crazy powerful already. Both bows are ridiculously good weapons atm.
In wvw middle (temple of storms whatever) island on borderlands green colored quaggans just stand there and don’t help you like other green colored npc’s can be supposed to do.
mindlessly zerg all day long and bash doors = rewards
hone your personal skills and do some fun stuff or die trying = no rewards
go figure how someone might get bored.
i’ve currently kept running into thief/mesmer GROUPS while solo roaming so i guess it’s really time to give less time to wvw or gw2 in general. maybe next year we get some balance patch.
it’s not only that, but in addition you cannot use skills after DS ends for a short time.
and also spectral skills had internal cd added.
combine all those despite of DS hp buff which is sort of irrelevant to sitation where these have most effect…
pierce is fine please don’t even suggest this kind of things they just might do it
fighting thieves is like you can assume this and that and evade backstab with your 6th sense.
tbh stealth stacking is ridiculous and more ridiculous is pretty much free stealth from a skill which does 5k damage.
i do kill silly dumb thief players quite a lot and really don’t find them strongest class in general.
however they do get too much kittening stealth stacks and ridiculous dmg on some nearly “spammable” combos. i.e. hit → hide → heal if need → hit again etc. they should be penalized in the manner that if they kitten up they are really feeling sad panda and not be so fast moving. (mostly talking about wvw with ridiculously strong pve gear and tons of space to kite). more than gazillion tims i’ve seen thief dude kitten up like ridiculously many times but he still pushes couple buttons and permainv → fast leaps away etc. too easy.
Op’s problem again i guess is that he apparently played staff ele which sucks against thieves, big time.
no you’re supposed to go downed when you exit DS
