I say play it a while and then see how you feel.
We did a big set of improvements to Necro recently, and we want to make sure we don’t over improve their defense capabilities.
We want to shift more focus to death shroud throug main hand skills, but, again, we don’t want to do this too fast, ESPECIALLY with a major Pax tournament right around the corner.
So death shroud gains may not be as high as you would like, but we’ll keep monitoring them and looking at further improvements to make.
Focusing LF gain on main hand skills means that you cannot gain LF if you cannot hit anything. That again leads into a fact that many times you are either out of range to hit, stunned, dazed, knocked down or target is plain invisible to you.
In current state you’re just big punching back to classes who can cc you (just anyone), or somehow make you miss (i.e. thief or mesmer) or stay out of you reach (i.e. ranger type).
Funnily enough if you compare necro builds, recent changes apparently made condition damage builds even stronger compared to direct damage based since they can put condition pressure out while using DS only as panic button and it actually lasts a tad bit longer now.
Most breaking thing with recent changes was this activation/deactivation delay. It makes DS flashing consume more of you LF (minimum 1 second in DS + every kind of lag + reaction times) plus it is really really deadly once you deactivate DS and cannot use heal or utility. I have really hard time figuring out why the kitten. That flashing mechanic was there almost a year and hardly no one even mentioned it. Now there just isn’t anything to make up for losses. Why it’s bad? Because it makes that tiny bit of difference between getting downed or surviving.
There’s also tons of other stuff I cba to mention here but it’s out there here on forums. Generally LF sustain is just horrible in certain aspects of this game.
confirming longbow needs moving barrage which is not affected by retaliation or anything
ranger also needs to be invulnerable while shooting (owait you can do that already?) in zerk gear so you can kill everything without swapping to meleee weapon o horror that melee someone might hit you.
it’s also too difficult to swap pet when it takes damage, make it no cd and automatic swap before they die it’s so long until they heal back.
dagger would probably overlap with 1h sword too much, unless they do all weapons to all slots for all classes stunt. 1h sword already is pretty much like assassin jumping around style ninjathing.
all classes need spear. SPEAR.

those pet revives are over the top, especially in water where it’s not possible to finish. it’s just ridiculous how long it might sometimes take to kill someone underwater.
2 thieves should’ve probably killed the pet or something though, in this particular case :P

never going to use anything else than shelter or in rare occassions signet. maybe it’s a secret but shelter in many times effectively heals you more than any other healing skill when you take in account that you also block attacks at same time while giving them nasty burning and retaliation.
hunam racial skills are not really very useful in general.
powermancer is that step brother who got locked up in a closet, with no cake
srsly after trying hard for a bit got tired of getting roflstomped with powernecro and swapped to guardian.
You can go wvw zerging/bag farming with about anything but minions.
Other than that level up a guardian or anything else with no necro in its name.
Guardian is answer to everything
focus really is better with axe or you should just go for dagger main imho.
jumping in with locust and switching to plague might get you bags but if that’s really valuable contribution i’d be a little bit sceptic.
sure i can see this build stays alive in wvw bag farming.
Damage overflow and delay after DS deactivation both are real killers atm. There is just no way to survive when you get swamped in DS. I constantly get like one shotted when DS hits 0 and no way to heal or remove conditions/stun. Sometimes you just hit the floor because of conditions applied to you before you entered DS.
Not to mention that with spectral skills internal cd nerfzored it’s difficult to get that lifeforce when you need it most, like you used to. They were brilliant antiswamping tools. Sure new buffs to life force regen on some skills help now more, however there is still problems how to apply them effectively and also it takes whole lot of time to cycle through all of them.
Necros need some kind of method to survive this DS deactivation mess without particularly traiting for it since it hurts every build possible regardless of what traits or utility skills you have. And it should not need to you to go condition build. My favorite would be reverting it back to how it was.

zerk is fine in dungeons
if you are not confident you stay alive in full zerk gear take knight, cavalier, valkyrie or soldiers in mix with zerk according to your personal taste. Ruby orbs are fine, I personally prefer ogre’s but there might be better ones. Bloodlust and force sigils might be fine.
usual zerk builds are like 30/30/x/x/x or 30/x/x/x/30 latter relies on DS usage more and you can swap for DS stability if needed while first one has better base crit without DS and benefits for all conditions applied by whole party.
They didn’t.
Dagger #2 does decent ranged dmg if your target slips outside of melee range and you’re specced for direct damage. Dagger is direct damage weapon after all.
The one could argue if so long channeling time is useful though. Or dagger could perhaps use some defensive or cc ability instead to stay at melee range better.
I am personally fine with dagger #2 to be honest. It took a while to get used to it though.
as a result of some changes it seems after DS deactivates there is odd delay that you cannot use any healing or utility skills which means you’ll just die horribly
second thing is that because apparently damage carries over to base hp, or is somehow in weird way bugged since i’ve seen this happen even before these “buffs”, you just tend to die when DS ends
this DS “buffing” really needs some rework.
even though condiburstwtf necro is undeniably ridiculous it’s not only class doing similar kind of condition stacks, it’s just not many use that option or are considerably weaker otherwise. one more condition here and there no problem but burn does a lot of dmg just look at those warriors with bow that burn alone hurts tbh.

It does last a bit better in certain situtations. That means it lasts a bit longer until it’s gone. 0%
DS has gigantic problem that necro cannot handle any kind of burst or pingpong effect or stun/immo in any way except try to dodge. Granted CONDIMETA NECRO can handle this much much better, but as a side effect every other necro build which is not terror/dhuumfire spammer gets whacked out even worse than before. DS/direct damage build just gets pinponged and DS eaten by bursts/random aoe spam. Not saying it didn’t happen before but spectral skills helped more back then if used at right time.

If you’re bothered by terror/dhuumfire necro ask them nerf that leave glass zerk necros out of it. Yes I mean glass. There’s a big difference between soldier and zerk gear survivability and damage. Not to mention the utility skills you pick.

I can tell you in my experience strongest necro is minion necro with staff and no damage at all. Because it beats my zerk necro hands down.

Thieves get some cool toys no doubt… that’s why I enjoy playing one. However, they need everything mentioned in this thread to be viable. How else can a build that only has 14000 hp, no toughness, and requires melee combat be successful? Any thief that builds tanky loses such a huge % of their dps that it just isn’t worth it.
Look where thieves got torment… p/d #3… it requires melee to trigger and CnD is nearly always the better option given the choice between the 2. The other option is a craptastic venom…. both those combined are absolutely dwarfed by DS#5.
I beat most thieves playing on my necro and beat most necros playing on my thief… funny how that happens huh?
I don’t care about thieves getting torment or whatanot, but thieves are medium armor class with superior gtfo mechanics so they are in no way at worse end when it comes to armor or survivability.
Any class with zerk build loses dps when going more tanky it’s not just thieves.
Just saying 14k hp is not any kind of defense to have something. The rest is too long story.
50 points per title from GW1 is NOT much. It could be even more if taken into count all troubles you’ve went to get them. First of all people bought GW1 bonus pack just to get advantages in GW2.
So now they get something for the money they paid.
Go buy GW1 play it get those irrelevant 500 points like other people did if it bothers you guys so much.

Just curious. I have several characters with several sets of exotic armor and then some more “unique” skins I don’t want to throw in mystic toilet and I am seriously running out of inventory space and fast. And I don’t even have a lot of stuff compared to many others. Currently only way to store all this stuff is make more characters but that just feels so difficult to move stuff around to other characters.
Please can we have this fast?
Even if DS had hp that it was supposed to have in first place it doesn’t help with DS regeneration, it’s just more buffer. More buffer doesn’t help you sustain it any longer, which is my original problem with all this kitten. You get to low LF, you stay in low LF and never get up. Especially when you have nothing to hit. Necros don’t have similar mechanics like guardian block heal or thief stealth away and heal. They just take damage. LF regen depends too much on killing something (in case you have power tree 5 points) and you don’t get enough for hitting, even with new little oomphs.
almost every ranger weapons is awesome counting out maybe offhand axe which you cannot whurl while moving.
generally easiest class to play even a total muppet can kill stuff while playing a ranger.
all weapon combinations are general faceroll however you use them, it’s almost impossible to use them wrong no matter what traits you pick. only thing you can go wrong is pick following spirits and not use spirits.
granted in pvp you might lose to some competent opponents but can’t always win everything.

you used to be able to turn on spectral skill and use it as a sort of healing skill then turn on DS when taking tons of damage. now this ability is gone. it has a great effect on necromancer survivability.
other minor buffs to life force gains do not make up for this, not even near. it is just not possible to manage life force with current tools. life force SUSTAIN was pain even with spectral skills giving some spike in certain situtations.
i feel this was really unnecessary to do, especially if it was inspired by dhuum/terromancer viablity in pvp. (yeah viability, they were not that great compared to other similarly “op” meta builds out there other classes have)
now all other necro builds are even more crap than ever. great job. are we all supposed to field full spectral utility bar and life force gain weapons if we want to use our class skill. this seems pretty ridiculous to me.
we should have decent life force gain even without spectral skills so we can actually use DS

As for why no one does spvp there is no rewards, no gold, no skins you can get to pve zones etc. Only reason to do spvp is daily and achievements at the moment.
obsidian sanctum is pvp map and you are supposed to pvp there if you go there
however spawn points are kittened and map should be changed in a way spawn points are not just right beside each other and it actually takes some time to get back where all spawn routes meet.
it should be also mentioned in obsidian sanctum achievements that they need pvp activity to capture so ppl don’t just expect to go there and get it.
repair itself is not a problem it prevents you for just running in and dying.
however there is a problem that all that wvw does it rewards zerg gameplay. zerging gives you very good rewards, good karma and tons of gold with small risk if you play with right gear and in good group. it’s more like orr farm than actual pvp. clear map jump to next map etc. oh kitten.
but then if you actually go around roaming solo or small group you don’t get much rewards for your time and you will have a lot more repair costs since occassionally you get rolled over by 30+ man blob.
only thing i find if useful is running away from blobs when soloing or help catching trolling stealth thieves.
it’s a good addition to death shroud and actually helpful, far from overly powered though.
i don’t really know if op actually realized this but if you have long cast times in DS it means you won’t be able to use those skills at all. as it currently is, you can mostly just flash DS before it’s gone unless you’ve particularly specced for LF generation which is really sad.

necro marks haven’t been changed in any way so it cannot be the source of any of your problems or it would have been so for a year
i can however agree that all necro buffs didn’t go in right places. necros still sit a whole lot of time at 0% life force since they cannot get it from anywhere and no regen, even dat laughable signet lol. granted some skills load life force pretty fast AFTER you are in combat but that means you got to survive first whole lot of time without dat DS. first good step would be DS regen out of combat. also some traits have idiotic ON KILL pve mechanics. there must be better way to make these traits work in decent way which is useful.
and if lol meta complaining i’d also add lolinstagibaoespam mesmers right there too. too much forgiving facerolling. there must be a reason why every one of them rolls with a GS. even though not unkillable too pretty strong right there, right beside op 30/30/x/x/x necro.

I do or lately more accurately did roaming with warrior, guardian, necro and ranger. I also tried thief and mesmer both classes are so kittening faceroll I don’t want to be seen playing them.
Although currently totally bored on wvw and class/gear imbalances especially there even though they also exist in spvp at least not in those lenghts.

I agree. WvW gear should be at least more similar to sPvP unless PvE gear gets serious nerf bat. PvE gear is probably fine for high end PvE content but it’s not good for WvW. PvE gear was already unbalanced for any kind of PvP but they already added new ascended gear and will be even more in future which will result in just insane instagib builds and whatever I can’t even imagine. I am not even going into food buffs and certain clearly unbalanced runes.
Also need to grind for more and more gear for WvW only is a real pain. Many people like me too have several different characters we would like to play in WvW but in future it will be pretty much useless to field any character to competitive gameplay which requires top gear. And unless you happen to be PvE hero who just goes with the karmatrain to grind gold it’s extremely difficult to get badges and gold for that new gear.
My worst fear is that in future new skill unlocks and ascended gear can only be acquired comfortably by PvE grind/WvW karmatrain focused gameplay which will pretty much kill any small scale PvP in WvW. Even though it’s already pretty much dead form of gameplay I see more and more people leaving game or they just do occassional sPvP to fill their guild wars time for the day instead of being overrun by 60 man mobs, owned by level 82 npcs or whacked up by someone with better gear since you didn’t have gold to afford decent gear.
living world = short event stories
expansion = long story
i really love playing through stories even though i am probably a little bit pvp/wvw focused in this game. and better yet if story would be actually good unlike original gw2 story which is horrible.
of course i don’t mind if they actually release long story camouflaged as living story. but i really don’t like living world events like they are now i want some “serious” story content.
ascended gear makes wvw stats ridiculous, not only zerk gear but everything. it doesn’t help that you get different kind of ascended gear since stats are just insanely unbalanced for any kind of pvp.
i know some people who’ve thrown like 1000 rares in forge and no precursor. some people have started playing like few months ago and thrown couple rares in forge and got several precursors.
sounds really insane to me.
i try to enjoy all aspects of the game pve, dungeons, fractals, wvw, spvp. i don’t have time to go camp world boss events to get rares or grind cof for gold. still i kind of feel that i have some sort of right to get that precursor some day without being filthy rich by RNG. or grinding ap or t6 mats whatever. it’s just horrible.
loot mechanics in this game in general are horrible too, you can spend thousand hours doing wvw or spvp and do fun stuff, but rewards you get is like plus minus zero. they really need to balance time consumption/skill and rewards instead of making this RNG grind.
Weakness is fine, it about only few things keeping necro alive. Unless they get evasion or whatever necros really need this. (ohkitten certain op builds are op builds but there’s other necro builds around too)
Stealth needs further balancing for sure, don’t see shadow refuge as a big problem but other stealth stacking is kind of ridiculous combined with shadow step whatever escape teleporting and stuff. I’d say there needs to be risk vs reward balance there instead of stealth trolling.
Stomping should be fixed in a manner normal guy can use all same mechanics without dumb exploiting of other skills to get invulnerability/stability/invis/DS etc.
Mesmer GS is just faceroll. Can’t say what to do to it but it needs some tuning down seriously. You’ve cripples and whatever and in case you run out of mind blowing damage skills you can still use mind blowing autoattack, from range. I really don’t think it’s a coincidence that most mesmers use this weapon. Yeah I occasionally also GS with my mesmer. And then there’s shatter.. And if nothing else helps then there’s that crazy illusionary assassin.
Conditions don’t scale well with condition removal. Or hitpoints. I tried running guardian with all possible condition removals I could imagine but I still had super hard time with conditions. Cleanse conditions now I should have less conditions… wait I have them all again.. gee.. Even in 1v1 you might struggle against any condispam class pretty bad. Compared to power/zerk builds condi builds can usually also heal/tank well. It’s fragile balance but currently sadface.
Generally any practically instagibcombo is bad. No one wants to just get oneshotted. Glass cannons or not. At least not without reasonable way to retaliate. Yeah I’m fine with thief trying to backstab me one time, two times maybe even 3 times but if they can’t finish the job..
you can use bone fiends as blast finishers, you get 2 blasts with extra dmg and short cooldown. don’t think of them as minons they’re moving blast finishers.
