Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kash.9213

I prefer fewer things that are more involved and fleshed out that keep me wanting to interact with other players in a living world to a bunch of little things thrown in to chew up my time that disconnects me from the world and other players. The game started to feel like early Rift, with all the little grinds and currencies.

WvW Titles/Rank/Skills & Multiple Characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Really poor decision by someone at Arenanet. However, I will continue to play on all my characters. They will just progress slower than the person that plays on the same character. I like variety in my game.

As much as I’d like to think myself of the same mood, I can see myself quickly shelving my alts since any time on them would feel like time away from my main character. I wouldn’t care much about titles and all of that, but any current or new currencies for any current or future stat progression would pretty much settle the matter.

Player Housing

I would love to be able to rent one of those houses in Divinity’s Reach. But it would be a lot of work for a really pointless feature.

The game has quite a few useless features at this point, some which are designed to simply chew up your time and be tolerated. Player housing, however simple, would not be tolerated, it would be appreciated. Really all they need to do is like I mentioned above, to fill out our home instance since that was the idea to begin with anyway, then give us one room in the tavern or room to put those trophies and and gear for different builds in…and a little coffee table to visually sort out all of those different currencies so I can budget for Ascended gear, then I can kick that table over and log off.

Discovered my Ascended anger was unfounded

.. my only other experience with open world PvP comes from being on a PvP server in WoW, so I guess I am used to being ROFLstomped just because someone has better gear than I do. I feel like when it comes to open world PvP, skill can only take you so far before you plateau and the only progression left after that point is higher levels and better gear. So ascended vs. exotic in WvW doesn’t really bother me either and is just the nature of the beast that is open world PvP.

Anets answer to that mess was what they sold the game on, why settle for anything less?

I really enjoyed player housing in Starwars Galaxies, though I was well aware of the damage that system did to the game world. I had thought that our home instances like in Divinities Reach growing and filling out as you accomplished things in the game would have been a decent housing system as it wouldn’t clutter the game world but would still offer a place to show your characters growth and achievements. Even a picture of Tybalt hanging in the tavern would have been nice but the only thing I’ve noticed about my home instance was that they took out the dye vendor after launch.

Ascended Gear Should be Like Fractal Weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kash.9213

If that’s how Ascended gear was introduced I’d still be playing this game. Most of the gold I earned, which wasn’t a huge amount after siege and structure repairs, and pretty much all of the gems I bought on a monthly basis was spent on my characters appearance. The gear stats for my build, being a set I had to mostly pve for to play WvW, were something I just tried to get out of the way so I could get to playing the game.

I’m sure I wouldn’t have one piece of it since I didn’t play that part of the game, but I’d definitely ohh & ahhh at it and appreciate that those people did their thing….as long as there was another line of gear for WvW.

Expansion hopes: Modular or Progressive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kash.9213

kash.9213

My favorite expansions were Jump to Light Speed for SWG and The Commons update (not really an expansion) for Age of Conan. The Commons especially really only opened that gate across the bridge and let you do quests and climb around roof tops and mess around in that area we all used to ask, “I wonder what’s in that area we can’t go to”? Then, the full expansion for AoC came out and all that did was draw people away from the original game and added new currency and gear tiers for a bunch of people to never catch up on behind exploiters and no lifers.

I have to hope they expand the life and layers in some area of the game that’s already there instead of just tack on a new grind-while-you-wait zone but the reasons that have made me quit the game a few weeks ago seem to be winning out.

Stop with Time Sinks / Dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kash.9213

kash.9213

If you say it’s about skill – then in a WvW between two equally skilled players, on a scale of probabilities, can an exotic geared player beat an Ascended geared player?

The Eternal Battleground is not a one-on-one dueling arena.

Dailies as they are currently implemented are a time gate, how about you try to discuss that and how it affects current players with alts and new players who have just bought the game.

How about you stop telling people what they can and cannot discuss.

Gear, and the advantages offered by gear, is pertinent to the discussion of Laurels. And the only reason Daily Achievements could possibly be a problem to anyone is because of Laurels. Therefore the discussion of ascended gear, like it or not, is on topic. Partake, or don’t. Either way, stop trying to control the conversation.

Being told what you can and can’t discuss to participate equally in the content of this thread, how horrible, it’s as bad as having the way you participate in the conversation being controlled by someone else.

Where is going GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kash.9213

@Lexuar. Guild Wars 2 is about 90% PvE content and 10% PvP(WvW and s/tPvP). Realize it’s YOUR choice that you want to focus on only the half of 10% of the game – WvW.

It’s like you chose to mountain biking on a unicycle and are complaining that it’s slower than a mountain bike. Get some perspective.

If gear differences are that big of a concern for you in PvP(since you keep beating that horse) then that’s what s/PvP is for. That’s ANets answer to your complaint. If that answer isn’t good enough for you, then find another game. Come back to GW2 at another time and maybe they’ll have added some s/PvP stuff that appeals more to you.

This is the kind of attitude that turns an awesome game like GW2 at launch into a convoluted pile of yak droppings like GW2 today. Your answer to people with other play styles apart from your entitled, time privileged, dungeon treadmill is to stop playing? See how well this game turns out when the type of player who funds the dev team buying cosmetics are playing other games and all you’re left with are tiered stat chasers, enjoy that community.

Please someone should make a sticky responding to this kind of arguments:
1. There is no grind!
2. There is grind, but not as mush as in “put a random mmoprg name”
3. Do you want to have all top items with zero effort?1!1!1!111
4. You can’t have all you want!
5. Ascended are not mandatory!
6. You can play everything equipping just green stuff…
7. I can solo Lupicus with my whites, L2P noob.

Responding to those arguments in that list;

If you want to be the kitten on the team in pve don’t call others noobs and definitely don’t tell others to learn to play. If you’re competitive at all in WvW, you’re going to need best in slot gear unless you want to gank dolyaks all day. It is a daily grind, it is mandatory, and if you try to take on any average player or players in WvW in greens then you’re about as useless as a mini pet.

GW2 revolves around grind and time tables..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kash.9213

kash.9213

Once upon a time, ANet designed a game where the only things people might choose to do that required time commitment were gaining a dungeon set, or a legendary weapon. Everything else in the game, and there was a lot of it, was for fun. ANet envisioned gamers choosing to do whatever they wanted because it was whatever they wanted.

Then their vision met reality, in the form of a horde of players who wanted the results as quickly and easily as possible. Said horde clamored for more, for progression, for something new to do, for more and better stuff. And so ANet realized what other MMO developers have known all along. A large percentage of players play for rewards.

You know, all that fun stuff they designed in the first place, the stuff that was supposed to be done for fun? It’s still out there. The only thing keeping people from doing it is their own choices.

The best stats are from the newer progression content that now has to be farmed and scheduled. Of course people have the choice to have second best gear and play the content they enjoy, but at some point as Anet keeps adding gear progression to shut up a handful of kitten on the forums, people will need the best stat gear to even play the content they enjoy and we all know that. So, there really isn’t much of a choice, you grind your dailies, monthlies, and guild raids, or you can roll around on the grass with the other new characters in the starter zones.

Guild Missions [merged]

kash.9213

I didn’t see venom for small guilds in there, which means you’re probably projecting. I can see exasperation with the reactions, and notably a fatigue of getting the answer “but I don’t want to” back to his seemingly reasonable solutions.

And yes, I put it like that not because they’re unreasonable,. You shouldn’t have to abandon a smaller guild to do this, and you shouldn’t necessarily have to conform into a larger guild atmosphere. But we’ve got some events now where listening and comprehending what’s going on is key, and at least one entire area full of meta chains where it is vital to at least communicate what’s going on.

There does come a point where you have to dial back the pride of being a small unit and work with someone else. And there comes a time when a bigger guild has to either decide they want to remain “100% rep required” or if they want to put an effort in to help other people get to the content and enjoy it if they want. We’ve seen a couple times that smaller guilds will band together if they feel okay about it, and I’ve seen at least one ad for a large guild going “We’re mission-ready and we don’t require 100% rep. We don’t bite.”

At that point we’re putting aside reasons we chose this game over others. We’re scrapping the idea of guilds and creating factions or mini servers which everyone will have to join to have access to the content to obtain gear stats. Join large guilds to run scheduled raids.

It’s your own preconceived notions about large groups and your inability or unwillingness to join that is the problem.
A little bit of research into joining a guild will go a long way. I did before launch and am currently in a wonderful and helpful guild full of great people. We finished bounty tier 3 earlier this evening and had a great time.

I’m sure if I had joined just any random guild spamming chat with recruitments, yes I suppose i’d be rolling the dice. A little effort and research goes a long ways. But in the end, it’s a YOU problem that is not enabling anyone from joining a good larger guild.

So in short, it’s his problem and he should join a large guild to have access to the games premier content to progress in gear stats to be able to compete or even meet the requirements to enjoy any group content.

Are hardcore players this games worst enemy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kash.9213

lol and exactly how do you plan on fighting end game bosses with low gear ?

Take any game with challenging raid encounters, after a few months most guilds will be for the most part equally geared, but difficult encounters will still only be locked down by a few top guilds. I’m talking about the challenge of an encounter, not time sinks for best in slot gear, which is what this game was supposed to avoid. If an encounter is only challenging during the gear grind due to a disparity in damage and health points then that’s not a challenge at all.

Are hardcore players this games worst enemy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kash.9213

kash.9213

No they are not. It’s the trash casuals that are ANY games worse enemy. Simply because they moan and cry with the same 10+ yr old excuses of why they can’t play for more than 10 minutes and expect every piece of gear on day 1 like certain companies do to their game. “hardcore” players are people that actually like a challenge or putting effort in to their game for than 2 minutes and then get top tier gear in day 1-3. If WoW isn’t the best proof of how a game can once be a fantastic game and then turn in to a pure piece of trash cause of casuals alone then nothing will prove that to you.

If high end content is based on gear stats then it’s not a challenge, it’s a health pool and a timer.

Role playing community in GW2?

kash.9213

If I go into WvW I don’t plan to RP in a Zerg. I plan to slowly move across the areas and take camps or join in smaller fights and simply RP as a rank within an army at least. The simple fact we see none of this in WvW just sucks and i feel the comment itself is closing to the idea of RPing to an RP for a pvp area. I always loved RPPvP servers so it brings more back to that feeling of being on your toes.

I’m not an rper myself, but I was impressed with the rp-pvp server communities in Age of Conan, though open world pvp rp really has to be in open world, so I don’t think it will ever work on here in WvW where there’s no down time and not much off the road player generated content. This WvW isn’t a living game world, it’s a large spvp map, you pretty much know what everyone’s story is because they were all in the same zerg as you or just got ran over by the same zerg.

WvW Rewards - New Gear?

in WvW

Posted by: kash.9213

kash.9213

To be honest, it makes sense and is really only “fair”

The PvE experience has had a monopoly on the ENTIRE jewelry set of ascended gear. Why not let WVW have a monopoly on the weapons for a few months? If a PvE complains they can just say “We’re working on it”, like they did to us.

Then you would forever tie WvW to pve and simply take turns with the pve player base from then on. Except, the pve players base will get to take three turns to your every one turn. That’s assuming there’s a chance w3 will get Ascended gear where more likely you’ll get a slim chance at one of the currencies to buy into one of the pve grinds.

Would adult person care that much if he misses few days of play? Some would, some not. There are “adults” that live with their mothers, have no jobs and play for 16 hour a day. Then there are adults with jobs and familys that have bigger things to care about than purple pixel necklase and catching up.
So gw2 is not supposed to be adult-friendly but casual-friendly, which it is since gear that allows you to experience all aspects of game is reached fairly easy.

Until the day comes when they will be required to have best in slot gear to do any of the content outside of shooting rabbits outside of Lions Arch. After being so far behind everyone else for missing a few days, they’ll never catch up to those 16 hour a day losers because once they get close…new currency for new gear set.

I have no motivation to play anymore. It had been WvWvW but there’s too much pve grind nonsense with dailies and guild missions everyone does first, so I’m either too early for the real action or too late after I can force myself to do my daily grind. WvWvW and working towards new armor and weapons skins was just fine for me, everything else was fighting other servers and hanging out with guildies and friends.

Yes, in 2 years when my super small guild gets enough influence to unlock them. Sure I could do the content with a mega guild, but I LIKE knowing everyone in our guild. What’s the point of having a guild if you’re just another face in a crowd?

You’d still be on your own for the most part since people have to represent your guild and be from your home world to gain full reward, otherwise it’s just DE type rewards.
Would have been simpler to just say “we lied, you’ve now contracted raids” and threw everyone in their own instances.

I’m in a big guild (465 members, around 200 active) and i still have to wait till saturday for first guild mission. I won’t make it ofcourse cause it’s saturday evening, so i’m wondering are they repeatable (i mean you can do them as much as you want daily, but get reward only for the first time) and how long they last? 5 min, 15 min, a hour?

What I take from all the posts is that there’s an influence cost to unlock a mission type, then however much influence to buy the mission within one of the areas, like Economy. So, it sounds like they’re like any of the other consumable guild buffs, you buy, you use, you save up for another. I think you’ll have to find a group within your guild or find another guild who will run them during your prime time unless they have enough influence to buy multiple missions at a time.

If you’re a WvW player, you’re used to the word ‘eventually’.

The original post isn’t so much about a content overload, it was worded pretty specifically, we’re being pulled into too many different directions instead of having a lot of different directions we can chose to go. This game will end up being a bunch of mini games with separate populations who will almost never interact and unless you have all day to play, you’re going to be well behind and will most likely miss out on playing with much of your guild unless they buy double the missions and can schedule every members dailies and time in other content very carefully.

Not as different as you would think.

We already got a sudden rush of players before the free transfers ended. Both returning from other servers and actual transfers from higher tiers (namely SoR). Not as massive as Kaineng, but the dynamic is still very clearly there.

“They’re winning the way they’re intended to win” comes off as writing us off as fitting in place here. If ‘intended’ is roflstomping ET/FC week after week while our rating drops, then what’s intended needs to change.

And how would you know whether it’s similar or not, are you here and just trolling as Mag?

Go take a walk and cool off.

By intended, I mean winning without having a massive rush of tier one guilds and player base suddenly show up and 24/7 for you, meaning your server is winning mostly by having it’s own player base being active consistently over a long period like w3 was intended

….Meaning if the system worked well your server would have moved up by now. It basically takes an element outside of the systems calculations like mass server transfers or exits from other servers to advance in tiers considerably.

Being a member of Kaineng since about 2 weeks after release, I know the feeling.

Took us a LONG time to dig out of T8 when we started winning every week by huge margins, at least 2 months (this is after being curb stomped by Devona’s Rest until about December)

It’ll come with time, but I do agree that T8 really digs itself an embarrassingly deep hole.

SF’s situation is very different from Kaineng, they’re not going to get a sudden massive player base now that server transfers are paid, so they wont be able to blitz through tiers. They’re winning the way they’re intended to win and additions to their player base are from their own server with renewed interest along with their w3 regulars. Kaineng would likely be where SF is right now had that sudden mass transfer rush not happened before paid transfers, those massive shifts wont happen again now.

The reason for World vs World vs World

in WvW

Each server plays for and against points, you’re not only competing against the two servers in your match up, but also against servers in lower and higher tiers. Depending on your servers points, you not only move up or move down, but your servers point displacement sends waves that move other servers. That’s why you might see one server dominating and making itself a prime target for a double team, but that other weaker server will often play for second place or focus entirely on points per a tick, looking ahead a match or two rather then the match they’re currently in.

Many tools in the map are already in place. Siege. Some terrain. Supply mechanics. Dolyaks. Sentries.

It’s not a bad setup.

It’s just too constrained and the pressure collapses the overarching strategy into zerg + treb network. More raw space would cause players to try more random kitten like siege setups in the open, more room for tactical maneuvers like feints and such. More chokepoints aside from tower/keep gates.

More space and varied terrain would also strengthen their triangulation design, which is currently defunct with map swords and truncated map quadrants. None of the points on any of the quadrant triangles have to house their own support because the neighborhood zerg can rush to any of them in seconds and minutes, especially with sword indicators. Some things Anet is working on or will be working, but the entire design of w3 has to grow with any big ideas they put into it, at least enough to fit any big change or mechanic.

Don’t tell me that Mag has turned to the Great Lord Alpha & Omega Siege Golem now instead of the Great Lord Flame Ram xD

Those are guard golems for the ram lord, kind of like the dog statues on Ghost Busters.

Is Maguuma trying to tank to steal Yaks spot in T4. Kind of sounds like it. That is low, we earned having good matches for a while by getting run over by the bandwagon freight train of both Kain and Mag, and then they get up to where supposedly they were aiming and then want back down when they can’t hack it.

A few transfers and pvers queuing up for part of a weeks match is less of a freight train and more like a short bus ride through the international district, hoping that smelly Yaks server doesn’t sit next to you.

Killing NPCs in a PvE zone gives you loot. You directly benefit from it. Fighting each other in WvW brings no benefit. There’s a difference.

I’m certain plenty of people have directly benefited from the loot you’ve dropped. Fighting each other in w3 brings benefit, not at the same rate as pve, but it’s basically the same system, except that we’re actually playing with friends and building a server community instead of sleeping through dungeons or botting across Orr.

Give us your fractals with Ascended gear to pvp in (give us even a little of what’s done for pve) and you can have our jumping puzzle.

The third, usually prevented by just telling people not to mess with the switches, is almost always a dealbreaker.

Why are you trying to find ways to get people to not use the mechanics of the game? I’d ask what is the best way to get rid of annoying pve mesmers who are trying to obstruct other players from enjoying the game, especially in the WvW jumping puzzle…for WvW players.

healing power a good idea to invest in?

I’ve tried a healing roll out, I only play w3, you have to have a lot of +healing and you have to connect a lot of hits in a very short amount of time to stay on your feet. I could see lasting on top or bottom of a wall fight for awhile with maybe a full Dwayna’s set and other +heal rating and sources, but outside of that if you’re build focus is healing I don’t think the heal rating matters so much as how many hits you can land in how many seconds,. Large spread cluster bombs were perfect if you don’t need to blast finish at the moment, add Omnomberry pie with or without SoM and that should be enough recover from a zerg carpet bombing.

Looks like you killed 6 or 7 guys with like 7 ballistas and 5 arrow carts.

Good job

It’s a true test of our skill to be patient enough to wait on only 6-7 people to chew through garrison gate before using all of that fire power.

I feel like if everyone does blindly follow the new commanders like they do the good commanders they may actually succeed with the bad tactics.

I can’t tell if you think this is good or bad. It would reinforce bad tactics. That is bad.

What he’s saying is somewhat how our known commanders who have had the icons since they were available or soon after grew in command ability. None of us knew anything about each other then and we did some crazy stuff in our squads, much of which was obviously a horrible idea…then a keep or map later..

The most solid way to build a team is to get into the action and blow stuff up. I can agree that if someone is consistently being an idiot and wasting our resources then they need to be fired, but let an aspiring commander try to command once or twice first, since we don’t care so much about winning or so we say in these threads.

It’s not the open world realm vs realm pvp we thought it would be but still, it’s this or….dungeons. I’ll quit the game before I bother keeping track of daily grinds again so I wont have the Ascended gear to run fractals even if I could drug myself enough to get through them anyway.
