Close the equipment gap

Sorry OP, but will have to support the opposite.

I admit I use 90% Exotic gear / 10% Ascended and run 7 characters on a regular basis with 3 others occasionally. That said I would prefer that they widen the gap between exotic and ascended. The extra work should warrant increased stats gains and would probably create more interest to make more ascended gear. Extra effort should be rewarded.

Spending a bunch of gold and running between a work bench and a trader might be work but it’s not challenging and it hardly reflects the game play that you’d wear that gear for. It’s great that the best gear in a game can be crafted, but that shouldn’t be the only reliable way to get it or even the main way. People keep claiming that they only make that gear for something to do and that the stats are irrelevant, but this thread is full of shell shocked hysterical fits of terror at the idea of any stat change.

Everyone that posts that you only need acsended gear for one aspect of the game can f off, if it has higher stats, it’s the best gear and it’s needed everywhere. Apart from that, I don’t bother trying to get it, time gated crafting and crafting grinds in general are no fun at all and running the same instance with a bunch of kittens every day is even less fun. I’ll just keep playing WvW and get a drop a year maybe that I won’t be able to use and just stay close to a zerg so that I wont run into one of those lucky idiots who post drops all day with a stupid smiley face after every sentence who seem to have stuff dropping at their feet just by logging on for a minute.

I wouldn’t care at all how long it would take or how difficult the fight would be if doing the fun content was a reliable way to get the best in slot gear but having to do bland content for the best gear to keep up with people who mostly do bland content but slum it in your neck of the game once in awhile to show off makes me want to log off and stare at a wall.

Want and need are two different things. Simply because it has better stats doesn’t make it a requirement hence not needed. Any aspect that stats really matter are normalized or scaled, Ascended really only has an impact on PVE and is somewhat needed in higher level fractals. So yes it is only NEEDED in one aspect. The idea that you need the best gear outside of fractals is just in your head. You want the best gear but don’t need it.

“Fun Content” is subjective, you mention WvW zergs which some might find bland and meaningless, in the same way you might find dungeons boring.

Your post sounds more like a jealous rant about drops then anything, or about people who link ascended chests(which usually are just trolls). You seem to only want the gear because someone else has it.

The best stats are always going to be needed if you’re up against someone with those better stats. I didn’t say zergs were fun, I mentioned the need to stick close to them if I’m going to fall behind in stats. I’ll play hard with the limited time I have and I’ll play all the way through but I’m not going craft hard and press a craft button over and over with what time I have or run through the same instance the same way over and over with mostly people who want nothing to do with you. It’s not a huge deal, I still play and don’t sweat it much, but it’s a bit aggravating every time people post that best in slot gear is only for people who play one instanced part of a game or that you should spend all of your game time crafting because that’s what they do.

yup . . . that’s why not a single decent thief use it for main build.

Anet could use the same mechanic as the engi pull skill . . . it seems to never fail.

On top of that, I seem to get get pulled by an ability or two in WvW from what should be difficult to impossible angles while I’m on a wall pretty easily. I’d like to do likewise with our wire but it’s not much use except as a projectile in someones field. Even under water it seems to pull an inch or two and while the particle effect continues the duration, the target has already been let go and has hit me back a couple of times from out of my melee range. Basically, it’s a polite way to tap an enemy on the shoulder to let them know you’re there.

The Rifle Thief

kash.9213

Frankly I think that a rifle thief is a terrible idea. One of our most important abilities, steal, puts you right in melee. Unless of course the new specialization will change this mechanic, it will definitely do more harm in my opinion. Frankly I’d rather see a specialization that makes them more of a swashbuckler (Axe.. Or possibly O-h Sword) possibly trading full on BERSEKER for a more melee competent.. Tankish kind of thing. Because honestly it seems like 90-100% of the builds that are for thieves are for ripping your opponent apart. Granted main hand sword is kinda like that, but adding in a rifle may just completely hurt the purpose of a longbow ranger.

Thief specialization will be something like assassin so forget this “Rifle is not thief” or “steal” bull because it will be a different class in essence

How will it be a different class? Aren’t Rangers still messing around with pets as a Druid? And, the Chronomancer doesn’t seem all that far removed from the base Mesmer, it just seems like a nice patch to that class.

I tend to just do the maps that are progressing the events, since each event success gives me some stuff to open and the final boss is a nice payout along with the four bandit chests that are right there to unlock anyway. Plus I’ve gotten a bit of a memory bank of where some of those chests are anyway so I might stop and pick one up if I’m running by.

The guild I joined the game with no longer plays because they jump around games, it’s just their nature, so my guild was lame to begin with. The guild I joined recently is active and seems to be getting bigger. Content like the Living World, or raids in any game every month doesn’t keep a game alive. Either a game is good and the player base is decent, or one or the other sucks and people leave because of it. So, either GW2 is a bad game at it’s core or your guild sucked. Or, maybe they’re all playing together someplace but told everyone not to let you know about it.

There’s been plenty of Rifle threads but this point is bugging me also. I expect the specializations to turn a class into something elite and focused but a rifle sounds so bland if it’s just a longer pistol and so out of the range of what a Thief should be if it’s more of a sniper roll out. I had hopes of a staff or unarmed but I don’t see that happening. On your point about the mesmer elite spec, it does simply look like a patch update of what they already have but I suppose I just don’t know enough about Mesmers.

You can supplement mobility with Utilities and Short Bow. You’ll just have to keep an internal rhythm and maintain your dodges so that you always have your damage boosts but can always have a dodge ready. If you learn to dodge in a way that keeps you within swing range of your target and can maintain your damage boosts than it should work out fine, just keep in mind you can get complacent at times, especially if you’re just standing around blasting with short bow with the rest of the crowd or you get too focused on one thing and forget to evade/dodge or use up some endurance.

Edit: but Ensign is probably right about using 26006, it’s more a burst weapon set, although I disagree strongly about Sword suffering in WvW, especially in open field but even in tight spots, sword and especially sword/dagger is like playing the point guard position in basketball, you’re controlling the movement of everyone pretty much.

Every day I’m in Silver Wastes I see a lot of individual “hero” moments because one big zerg anywhere pretty much kills that map the way each part of every event spot is designed allows for clutch plays. Also, if all you do in WvWvW is follow the largest zerg, then that’s on you, not on that part of the game. I regularly run around on my own or with maybe five to ten people, and even in the large zergs, there haven’t been many sleepers but that might be the server I’m on. It sounds like the one constant in your experience with lame zerg players is yourself.

Guarded Intention will only be good once, maybe twice in a fight.

I can envision Hard to catch being procced at the very start of the fight and not kicking in when you need that endurance.

Swindler’s doesn’t look that great. Yeah, so-so for sword but that’s where it ends.

Assassin’s and Quick Pockets is still meh.

Don’t Stop is kind of vague. Depends on what periodically means. I assume it amounts to 1 extra evade every 2-3 seconds for projectiles.

What we needed was some condi cleanse tied to dodging or evading, which we didn’t get.

I get what you’re saying then, I don’t know about dead on arrival, but I might say that because it looks better for my build. So, I agree it’s kind of slim with some traits still likely to collect dust and it’s going to be a weapon specific trait line I think. I use a sword and I can see myself still traiting for Steal and along with Slight of Hand, that new Swindlers could help me proc Serpents Touch, Mug, Thrill of the Crime, and Bountiful Theft after a couple of dodges at least in WvW. It doesn’t seem like a lot of choice there apart from one build taking into account the synergy with with other trait lines and how much a few swift actions can pump out for yourself and your team.

Thieves will be just as good as they always have been (certainly not worse) but it does seem like it kind of kills build diversity. Shadow arts and Acrobatics are pretty much going to be worthless (at least that’s how it seems right now) because it won’t be worth it to invest in them. Just as it isn’t worth the DPS loss to go 6 deep in them right now.

Why would acrobatics be worthless to put points into?

again, all the people who rant about the rate

Did you ever considered crafting isntead?

You see, it takes gold yes, but its a 1/1 chance ON GETTING THE STATS YOU WANT

Whats the big deal, seriously? I get that it sucks you get PVT everytime a chest drops, to bad, I had about 6 worthless chests aswell.

it made me realise one thing; kitten it, i’ll just craft it myself and be done with it.

You have the option to craft it ASWELL.

With all the farming you guys claim to have done you could have crafted maybe 2 or 3 full sets.

But no, you guys want ascended with right stats handed to you for hitting a boss with 1 fireball.

If you can farm all that stuff over & over i’m sure you can withstand the daily crafting limit and start refining the mats you need.

Calm down, you sound ridiculous. The couple of drops I’ve gotten weren’t handed to me and they weren’t from spamming on a boss fight. My two drops came from long difficult coordinated fights that involved siege weapons, multiple groups of people cooperating, defense prepping, and team synergy between mostly strangers. I chose to play that part of the game with the little time I get after work rather than crafting, though I don’t hate crafting, but I have to budget my time well.

You can make the argument that people who put in the time to craft them should be rewarded over others who don’t, but if were going that route, we’re going to be playing a different Guild Wars 2 than we thought we’d be playing a few years ago. I’ve put in no less effort into the parts of the game I’ve played, parts which would actually benefit from that tier of gear, than you have. But F me for playing a part of the game that doesn’t pay out well in any sense.

I’ve seen guild groups following a non blue tag around and though I’m not following them they’re usually going the same way I am for a distance, but on my server I haven’t been told to go elsewhere and just going by common sense I get in where I fit in until we’re going different ways. If it’s clearly a guild group running around I try not to get in the way even though they haven’t said anything yet, it’s just obvious what they’re doing just by their team movement and I know from other games not to F that up.

The guild groups on Maguuma seem pretty inclusive and usually post their guild channel for Team speak for everyone to get in and I’ve noticed that when they start to get frustrated if most people aren’t listening and it’s a circus, they’ll waypoint and maybe hit up another map instead of raging at everyone.

If you have the Might on Dodge trait you have to think about your might stacks all of the time and keep your internal clock wound so that you dodge regardless whenever it’s ready but not spamming it, it’s paced so that you keep your stacks up but you always have a dodge or an Endurance booster available at any moment if you need to bug out. Some people who are just good with the right class are going to knock you out fast toe to toe so don’t have any qualms about ducking out and resetting or letting them think they sent you packing, and then in a flash you unload you’re big hitters and hope that drops them.

Wish I could help you on the gear part but I don’t get a lot of time to play and I only recently came back to the game. Besides that I’m always a sport what I loot player and have landed on Soldiers chest and legs since those two slots have higher stats than others so I let that take care of gear defense and everything else is Berserker. I’m still using my Pack runes I had around launch since I can’t afford other rune sets so I’ve only got a feel for others in spvp but none at all in WvW.

I would save my gold for the rune set you want since I think your gear will be fine for now and you can replace what you need there slowly, but those Melandru runes might get frustrating if you find you’re not finishing targets off, they’re just too defensive and being an S/D thief in WvW for myself means closing the distance and locking down or killing a key badguy fast if I’m not on rescue and revive duty.

It’s pretty much the same pvp game but with more people and sometimes a longer solo run to catch up to the crowd. Just take a day or two to gauge how a zerg breaths and you’ll know when to edge forward or rush and close the distance, walk back or about face and run or vanish, and how to corral the zerg while it’s breathing and deciding what it wants to do. Whatever build you’re using in spvp will land a job in WvW and for the same purpose, just remember to repair if you bite it before running out again.

Though against badies, everything is.

I personally wouldn’t run it in WvW. Though when I do sPvP, running a condi P/D build, I do use ambush and Thieves Guild. .

I used to use both in WvW for the same reasons, it’s a force multiplier and makes most people fumble, but also for the warning when I’d be around a corner or hovering around artillery. I used to build for rescue in zergs and they made nice back up, especially in Shadow Refuge, when reviving people. they can also be nice bunker busters when the other side would throw up a ballista by Shadowstepping in, drop Ambush trap and maybe Thieves Guild with Caltrops, and then fight a bit until it’s time to Shadow Return.

I got rewards and the skin I wanted, and sometimes I’d switch teams just to fight another thief who was clearly better and I’d ask them about their game play, it’s a nice setting for that pace but not for more than a couple of matches without some reward otherwise the man-child guild pre-mades would wear thin pretty fast.

Because EotM can be accessed from the same WvW tab.

But it’s PvE Karma land, has no place here until anet make it a real part of WvW.

I at least see one or two decent clashes in EotM on weekdays where normal maps are usually only pvp active on the weekends, at least while I’m logged, which is still an issue that compounds how much WvW is not an open world pvp game. I ran with multiple zergs last night in EB with four to five different commanders, took SM twice and pretty much the rest of the map, and all I got to kill was a flame ram. This game in general is PvE karma land which is kind of a bummer and I hope the Expansion maps liven it up more because when there is actual pvp, the machanics of this game put nearly every other game to shame.

Junkpile is right. Most nights I jump into the normal WvW maps and there might be one guild only group forming up for an hour and one main zerg who you’ll spend ten minutes catching up to. Basically on my server at least, with the hour or two I have to play a night, a half hour can be spent looking for action on the main maps. I can jump into EotM map and see stuff explode and actually use my skill bar within the first five minutes.

As much as I’d like to spend the time getting on team speak and running around the map to catch up with everyone, I just don’t have that time and only on the weekends it seems do people have a similar inclusive attitude similar to before I left the game and they seem to actually have fun. On the weekdays, it just makes more sense for me to hang out in EotM and in hot join because people actually try new stuff and tend to do the same as on other modes and maps but without taking themselves more seriously than they deserve. It’s just more bang for the buck for someone with limited game time.

Are the people in this thread for or against the Stability changes or just trashing the video? I’m a returning player recently and still catching up on everything, the comments in this thread make the Stability changes sound like a non issue that only becomes a factor in the more specific and extreme scenarios, but I keep seeing threads about how it’s such a game changer, so I’m a bit confused.

We could have a Shield Main Hand and a Back Pack Off Hand if two shields isn’t doable.

I think any area or map that is that finicky about how many people and where they’re at should be a personal or group instance. It’s an open world area as far as this game has, one person standing still in MMORPG should not set the world off balance. In the short term, I seem to be specifically targeted by quite a few things in that zone that fall from the sky or launched from some bad guy, I’m not sure if it’s coded this way already, but those smart bombs should target and drop on players wherever they were at once that bomb was launched rather than a patch work drop somewhere in the event area. So, even if someone is standing on the edge of the event tucked away someplace, they’ll still need to step aside or dodge. Or, just have some assassin looters prowl around event spots to attack players who aren’t registering any action as long as the event is active.

unarmed combat plz

I really would like an unarmed option, it wouldn’t even require a weapon skin. A rifle is ridiculous and would be a real wasted opportunity for an expansion when unarmed combat would make sense and be really fun if they did the skills and animations right. I suppose there would be the issue of showing off cosmetics so they could make an item that sits in the weapon slot and adds some effects or cosmetic changes to the hand, arm, gloves, whatever.

It’s what he’s holding in the announcement concept art

Does he draw from his “lowbong” for power?

I’d like the mesmer or thief to get unarmed specialization.
