rangers… easy to play, devilishly difficult to master. they’re great for getting a feel of the game, but as we all know, what works against the game’s AI in PvE doesn’t work for squat against a live opponent in sPvP or WvW. and then there’s the PITA that is pet micromanagement when in a dungeon or fractal… the september patch that gave us a ranged 100 blades just exacerbated the problem, because now, in addition to the new players who don’t have the skill built up yet, you have the older players who used to shun ranger bandwagoning on the pew pew power ranger train trying to 2, 2, 2, 2 their way to victory.

however… a skilled ranger, as few and far between as they are, is a force to be reckoned with. there are plenty of people out there that are more skilled than me who kill me quickly, but many times i am underestimated simply because i am a ranger… twice now in the last week i’ve had someone chase me halfway across the map, only for me to turn on them and kill them in short order (one was a warrior, the other another ranger). i know that 9 times out of 10 when i see another ranger in WvW, they’re an easy kill.

are rangers bad? no. each class has it’s strengths and weaknesses. but playing a ranger in WvW or sPvP takes a heck of a lot more skill than playing one in PvE which results in 2 things… ranger players trying to get into one of those things getting frustrated and playing something else, and everyone else with the (not entirely incorrect) impression that (most) rangers are an easy kill because of lack of skill.

i call BS. i solo roam alot, and i take towers solo with alphas frequently (i can do it without, but it’s faster and easier with… note i didn’t say FAST… i said fastER). now i can’t, nor can others on my server who have done the same thing… so it is absolutely negatively affecting our matchup.

Is it feasible to add swords popping on a WvW objective to the API?

i want to be well dressed... but my hat doesn’t fit!

i returned from a long absence shortly before the big Wintersday festival... i LOVE the new wardrobe system...and the outfit slot was pretty cool... however, i was rather disapointed to discover that, while i understand the outfit covers your clothing, it overrides whatever is on your head, too. i was unable to wear the lovely winter outfit, which to me looked quite a bit like a typical "Santa" type outfit, with the decorative hat, which looked like a Santa hat... i thought they would have gone together perfectly, but alas, it was not to be.

unfortunately for me, i have a short memory and i did it to myself again recently... i purchased the Noble Count’s outfit, which looks rather dashing on a human male, and was saddened to discover that i could not pair it with a top hat. you must admit, that lovely coat-and-tails with contrasting waistcoat just begs to be finished off with a snazzy top hat.

my suggestion: allow people to change the visible helm/hat of the outfit to whatever other cosmetic hat/helm they may prefer to show, instead of the current all-or-none approach.

also have a Sylvari thief named Deadly Nightshayde. i know... i know... >groan< so original, rite?... asura engi named Aggie Hetrodyne, a norn warrior (as big as possible of course) with all kind of crazy pastel dye colors named Fruit Loop Warrior.... and the most recent addition to my stable of silliness.. a male human ranger (going with a longbow power build) with white hair and pale skin, using black dye and silver paludrons, and Belinda’s greatsword skin... Sniperoth (>GROAN!!< )

course then again in another game i had a bard named Pointless Waste of Time and a rogue/thief named Pickt da’Locks (and a BUNCH of really silly pet names). i love mah punny names

meh. names or no names... if you WvW long enough, you get to know people, and people get to know you. i could right now easily without thinking hard about it rattle off a list of a dozen names of people i could identify at a GLANCE on the battlefield, just by their appearance, and i’m sure i’m not alone... and i’m sure there’s people out there who know ME at a glance by my appearance (at least my main WvW toons... XD )

having names instead of "such and such invader" would only serve to speed up the "trash talk or gg" after a fight... meh not a big deal to me

well.... there’s a couple things you can do
you can dig in your heels and try to do what you can to rebuild your server’s WvW. if your server has it’s own forum, become a member if you aren’t already, become active and known. if your server doesn’t have it’s own forum... MAKE ONE... advertise the snot out of it..., get out on the field and be confident and uplifting... you can turn around people’s attitudes about wvw even in a losing match if you can at least find a way to make it fun*. i know you said you have no ties to the server anymore, but... you’ll make a ton of new friends if you stay and do all this... and you can still guest with your old friends for world bosses and dungeons (gotta restock the gold for seige and upgrades somehow! XD )

OR

you can hit the world boss train and the dungeoneering HARD. keep an eye on timers so you can attend ALL the world bosses and get all their loot. perhaps even do a little bit of world exploration (i made a surprisingly good amount of gold getting my map completion recently just from all the creatures i killed as i explored and i didn’t pass up a single resource node. i harvested, chopped, and dug EVERYTHING... and salvaged all the loot... and sold it.) maybe do a little wvw just to keep your skills fresh, but the majority of your time willl be pve for a while, collecting every copper and silver.

neither is particularly easy, but you *did* say you enjoy a challenge.

OR... you could, as you said, shell out some real world $$$ to get a transfer done faster. i’m in tier 8 so i’m not 100% certain, but i *think* tier 1 and tier 2 have remained somewhat stable with the same few servers in the recent past, altho i seem to remember a complaint from TC about getting beat up in T1, but beating up T2, so not really having a super amount of fun in either tier. not sure on that either, might want to talk to a rep from TC if you were interested in that server.

if the “winning” server is beating the other two by DOUBLE the other two’s COMBINED score… and STILL has no chance to pull out of the tier… something is WRONG.

thankfully that was finally adjusted. it may not be ideal. it may not even be good, but it’s better than it was, and i can live with that.

haha oh lord Ajax Blue... i think 95% of ET had him on ignore, and the other 5% either didn’t WvW at all ever, or thought his flailing was funny.

but srsly. ET is in need of people who are online after around 1-2am east coast time. we have decent presence in the late afternoon into the evening, but starting at around midnight, everyone goes to bed and leaves, quite literally, 2-3 people defending. every single person who joins CAN AND WILL make a difference when our numbers are that bad.

if you want an easy steamroll, don’t come to ET. if you like blobs, don’t come to ET. if you like small groups battles, if you want a great community, if you want to feel like YOU are making a real difference, if you want to have a tremendous feeling of accomplishment when we do well in WvW... then please... come to ET.

indeed. you were fielding more numbers last night than i’ve seen all week for some reason. every time i turned around last night it was "15 AR at bay!" "30AR at garri!" etc etc etc. and most of my side were apparently off on in EB, so the 5 i DID have wasn’t gonna stop you. if you could field numbers like that consistently, you might be able to give ferg a run for their money, especially with them losing a few of their big WvW guilds if the rumors are true... far from an "almost dead" server... unless, of course, that was your entire fighting force, and you just decided to target us and hit or defend nowhere else last night.

until you get down to less than 17 people across ALL 4 battlegrounds at the beginning primetime on a friday... your WvW isn’t dying. that’s where ET was a year ago. we’re still here. still fighting.

Fergy took lessons from Big Brother (Sorrow’s Furnace). their zergs might not be as big as a higher tier server, but they… from my own recent observations… all call and bring out the zerg just to push a few people from their borders. not to say they’re a bad server, but if you wanted to get away from zerginess… well… i wouldn’t go there if i was trying to avoid zergs.

SF is definitely zergy. and CoSA was one of their largest WvW active guilds last time i saw them. at one point they had 4 different guilds with the CoSA tag, and i know at least some of each guild hit WvW... i’ve seen all 4 (i *think* one of the 4 was a primarily PvE guild, but still... )

true. but they’re rank 18 right now.. tail end of tier 6. i was more talking about tier 7-8.

how many guilds is CoSA up to now? was 4 last i heard

tier 7-8 typically has good roamers because we’re kinda forced to. yes, we still zerg when we can get enough people together, but alot of our time is spent solo or small groups, not zerg-ballin’ it.

that said, i of course am biased to say "come to ET!" but really, any of the lower servers would probably suit you if that’s what you are looking for as opposed to "teh blob!!"

unfortunately, that’s exactly what i seemed to have. the 2 PCIe ports on the power supply are on the very top of it, and yeah, i left those cables disconnected, as i had no use for them when i originally assembled my comp. i have NO idea where those cables are now... probably thrown away at this point... off to the computer store tomorrow i suppose. *sigh*

lol i think life hates me... my husband upped my budget a little bit (yay) so i ended up ordering this. it arrived today, and i unpacked it and started to install it, to discover that the auxiliary power cable it came with doesn’t connect to anything i have. my power supply has 2 PCIe power ports free on it, but the cable that came with the card is 1. too short to reach them, and 2. doesn’t appear to be the right thing to plug in to those ports. it appears to be a 6 pin PCIe to single molex adapter (which seems odd to me, because when i started searching for a possible solution everything that was PCIe to molex had dual plugs at the molex end). downside, my whole rig is SATA, so i have no free molex ports to plug it into to see if that will work.

i had to leave it and go to work before i got a chance to really look at it good and see if i was missing anything obvious, so i’ll stop ranting now. XD if anyone has any ideas of painfully obvious things i might have missed, let me know. i’ll poke around again when i get home tonight, and possibly have a run out to the local computer parts guy in town tomorrow if i need some sort of adapter or extender or something.

i have it on 2 characters, one of which was gained BEFORE ANet started the color-shuffling thing. i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately, you’re just going to get it eventually through a mix of patience, and being in the right place at the right time.

and as for forming a group solely to get world completion, and saying "but who does that just for map completion?" been there done that, more than once. both as commander and follower. if enough people need/want a completion, it will happen eventually... again, need to be right place right time.

4 G of RAM (i know... i know... i only bought the 32 bit win7, so even if i filled up that mobo with the 8 Gigs it could hold, i could only use half of it. blargh

and GPU-Z said the same thing speccy, system info, and dxdiag said. ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series. it does, however, include the exact GPU. RV710. also, if i’m reading this right, i do have a PCIe version of the card

my power supply is either 500 watts or 600 watts. i don’t remember for absolute certain, but i could crack the case and take a look if i need to

i have a still-somewhat decent, if aging, rig i play on (2.4 G Phenom quad core), but the weak link has always been the vid card, an ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 series. i am looking to upgrade, but i havn’t kept current with what’s good and what’s just expensive fluff. can anyone make any recomendations?

i play DDO and GW2, and am interested in trying EQNext when it comes out, i use a 28" HDTV as my monitor, and i have a TV tuner card and a blu ray player installed, and i have a budget of around $100, so anything that can accomodate all of that would make me happy

Jeknar came down from a much higher tier server (blackgate, wasn’t it?) and he’s stuck it through for over a year. he could leave if he wanted to, i’m sure… but i for one am glad he hasn’t. if he sounds bitter, there’s a darn good reason, and telling him to, in effect, “get lost” doesn’t help matters

Merging the "problem servers" will not fix the problem, it will just ruin things for those of us that enjoy the smaller scale skirmishes.

There have been countless threads discussing the actual problems in WvW such as blobbing, downed state, low AoE limit, hard rezzing, PvD’ing, PPT system, no new maps after 2 years, etc.

Maybe if they fixed some of these problems instead of flat out ignoring WvW the population might actually start growing.

technically i haven’t said i was for a merger either. i said if we’re going to merge, merge us with the low pop EU servers to fill in coverage gaps, not another NA server.

as for "what it’s really like" down in T8... Jeknar, has it gone back to being as bad as it was a year ago, when i got that screencap of the entirety of ET’s WvW force from all 4 battlefields at primetime on a friday afternoon... all 17 of us? i can always throw that screenie back up here again. actually getting a zerg (A zerg. singular, as in, only on one BL) rolling of 20+ and still having some left over for scout/camp/enemy harassment was a cause for celebration.

I’m not talking about the casuals so much as the people that you would say “That person is part of our WvW community”, and then they change servers.

i’m not talking about casuals either. we’ve had whole WvW focused guilds transfer here, and then leave again.

people come, fight for a while... some long, some short, but they inevitably... eventually... leave. i don’t know if it’s independent of seasons, because i haven’t actually been able to play in quite some time, but before i had to stop, there were no seasons yet, so i would say it’s possibly not related... or at least not strongly related.

i was about to say heck, if ya gonna merge us with anyone, merge us with Vabbi and FoW which were the two extreme-low pop EU servers... at least then we may still have low pop, but coverage of different time zones, but i just checked mos and am pleased to discover that Vabbi and FoW have actually moved up off the bottom. maybe someday ET will do the same thing again.

ah well. i will hopefully be returning to GW2 sometime soon... it’s been so long i’ll have to relearn how to play. O.o easy spikes on the fuchsia-haired Asura! ay yi yi. >.<

only a WvW player who’s spent FAR too much time commanding, when faced with broken internet for an extended period of time (over a month now, and still counting) starts playing Skyrim to have something to do, and when they get to the "Civil War" story-line, keep catching themselves thinking "man i hope someone stays behind and upgrades these keeps, i don’t want the kitten Imperials to backcap all this kitten on me..."
