The downloaded file is a partial file, your AV might be having false positive with it’s definition or too aggressive of heuristics settings. There is a fine line in deciphering a virus from a legit program because virus are programs themselves.

Could even by another virus on your system modifying files triggering false positive. Could be firefox way of handling partial file download. etc.

A legit program and a virus are both very similar. If the AV software is too strict then more false positive occur, if they relax their setting to avoid fewer false positive then some viruses might pass through. Its all about balance and hitting the sweet spot, and because of that false positive will sometime happen. There is no way to get 100% detection and accuracy. Also, just because AV is installed and updated doesn’t mean its virus free. Its a cat & mouse game.

Virus signatures/definitions is not an exact thing, so false positive will eventually occur when new ones are pushed out. Every game/application is different, doesn’t mean too much if WoW isn’t flagged. If you are paranoid you can use other AV and scan it. virustotal.com offers aggregated results from multiple vendors.

Should post PC spec here, might be below min spec which can cause this.

• Disable zonealarm completely to test.
• Run game advisor to see if it’s server connection passes
• Try clean boot mode. (See Part 1.1)

Every machine is different, you’re going to have to troubleshoot it piece by piece.

You said it work fine before, but now it doesn’t. So something is different. Fresh installation of OS/drivers/gw2 is quickest route to rule out software issues/conflict/corruption. After that move to swapping in/out hardware parts to test.

try windowed fullscreen mode?

I have dual monitors and GW2 doesn’t minimize in either Fullscreen or Windowed-fullscreen when i move off to the 2nd monitor.

• Is that GPU-z screenshot while running GW2? PCI-E is running at 1.1 which should be 2.0 or higher.
• If it happens on regular interval check background process taking up CPU cycles.
• Post game advisor logs

There are many causes for black screen issues and not surprisingly so there are many solutions people have found works.

Good news is your computer is new so likely warranty still in affect if its due to hardware defects.

If you think it is causing the issue, you can temporarily disable to test.

Run game advisor and look at the log if the connection test to servers passes.

Shouldn’t be that hard to understand. The GPU list has a list of cards ranked by their score. I listed what score to expect for certain in-game graphic setting.

Note: your system won’t be able to run max setting. Likely our CPU is bottlenecked.

I see HD 2500 integrated GPU being shown. Sure you are using the radeon video card?

Run the sensor-only mode of HwINFO, gives more data.

6-12fps in Heart of the mist is very low. Try cleaning/re-seating the card if its still stuck at 1.1

Yea, looking at your game advisor, it shows you have a Intel® GMA 3100 for graphics which is below the Minimum requirements.

if nothing works delete the game folder, files in my documents and temp files. Then reinstall.

Blackscreen issue is known to have a wide range of causes from hardware to software drivers or even network setting etc. Hardware and even software can deteriorate over time. PITA to troubleshoot and requires process of elimination to narrow down.

Easiest way to rule out software conflicts is to do fresh install of OS/drivers/game.
Easiest way to rule out hardware issue is to swap parts and test.

7970 will run GW2 very well, he is just saying GW2 won’t utilize it fully. Nothing wrong with that. The card will actually run cooler since it doesn’t have to work at 100% load.

GW2Setup will use C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp to store the GW2 launcher client

GW2 will then ask you where you would like to install. Select your drive with space.

If you are having issues. Clear all your GW2 installed files and temp

use ccleaner to free up some space by removing temp files, remove old games, applications from the C drive.

If you already bought the game, and the laptop then just install it as usual.

SSD for OS/Applications/Games
HDD for media/data files etc.

Works better like this. If you ever need to reformat or install OS again, your documents/data is stored on the 2nd HDD

SSD is much faster. OS/Apps will launch quicker. Won’t have to worry about fragmentation. Overall snappier desktop experience.

It really blows my mind. Not that I don’t understand that the game wasn’t designed for multi cores (even though that sucks terribly.) But, the fact that I have a $1k gfx card which is utterly useless in this game. Wth? Why else would I buy a high end gfx card? To make it feel any better you can run GW2 on 30" LCD screen, higher resolution will utilize the GPU more. Maybe future proof yourself for 4K TV screens later =].

Since you paired a beefy 690 with a weaker 8150 not much you can do in terms of GW2.

They didn’t make a critical mistake in reusing a modified GW1 engine. It was a budget decision then, cost & benefit.

They could re-work the code to make it DX11, but by the time they finished technology would have caught up and likely make the problem less of an issue.

Its your CPU. Don’t think your issue is with PCI-E, but you can check it with GPU-Z

Intel Core i5-3470 uses HD 2500 as the GPU. GW2 minimum requirement is HD 3000.

The game is about 15GB, 1gb of free space won’t work.

Look at Part 2.2 GPU chart, go down the list until you get in your price range.

If gaming is your only purpose and don’t use things that utilize hyperthreading a 3570K would be better. Save about $100, and put that towards the purchase of a SSD.
