Tried such, yet failed to cease my problem.

Winsock suggestion was listed as in part 3.3 guess you didn’t really tried them.

2 days ago it was about 1.1GB and yesterday’s update was a small patch not even close to 1GB by far.

Just the nature of MMO to have updates. Vast majority of players have connection capable of handling the bandwidth.

difference between i5 and i7 is hyperthreading feature which GW2 won’t benefit from and most games for the matter. (See Part 4.3 to understand more)

Before all you would have to do is wait for off-peak times to transfer when it is not full.

With this latest patch I believe server transfers cost gems.

What error bluescreen code do you get?

gw2 is likely your gw2.exe (windows is hiding the ending extension)

Check your folder permissions
Avoid installing on the desktop if its there.
Move GW2 installation folder to another drive or to root directory

I copied my gw2.dat file to my other machines without issues. Try deleting the local.dat file.

I unchecked all of them and my map looked just like yours.

Since you froze and crashed, parts of the data might have gotten corrupted. The download client is either doing a check on all the files and/or decided to redownload everything again. In either case all you can do is wait for it to finish, unless you have a backup gw2 copy to use. Always a good idea to keep backups in cases like this.

gw2 Client probably has a lock on the file but crash or something leaving it hanging. You can reboot your machine and then delete the local.dat or use a unlocker tool

You can tunnel if you want. Moderators here even suggested trying WTFast which is a gaming VPN type service.

Would be more informative if you provide the bluescreen error codes.

BSOD often relates to driver issues and sometimes hardware. Wide range of things that will cause it.

you can try deleting the local.dat file, it will regenerate itself.

Just backup your Guild Wars 2 folder like you would any other folder/file. The most important file is gw2.dat, its about 15GB and contains basically the whole game in compressed format.

When i said win8 isn’t officially supported its meant by Gw2 Anet.

Video drivers are fine in 8, don’t listen to guy above. Windows 8 also uses practically the same kernel as 7 so there wouldn’t be any compatibility issues with the OS (as many people play GW2 on it without problem).

Keyword is “might” from above. Win 8 might use the same/similar driver model etc as 7, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be small difference. Who knows what nvidia/amd or what not changed in their drivers that is slightly different.

I believe GW2 servers are all in virtualized environment to squeeze out every ounce of hardware.

Win8 isn’t officially supported and video drivers might not be as polished. Try rolling back to previous versions if available.

Check your temperatures (See Part 4.1 or 5.1 for tools)

if the gw2.dat file is only 600mb then you will have to re-download, something might have gotten corrupted.

Have a backup in the future to prevent re-downloading and make a new one after each patch.

nothing will work if all ports are closed, even web browsing =], unless you meant you didn’t have to manually open ports. In the latter case, each router firewall setting are different and might needed. Its not uncommon for dorms/colleges to restrict ports/access due to school policy and copyright people breathing down their necks.

if there is no gw2.exe and gw2.dat file where the shortcut points to then the game is gone.

Besides the ‘animation’ setting in graphic options menu, there isn’t anything specifically on spell fx.

You didn’t attach your logs here or provide much info, so best guess is your are experiencing this issue in Part 5.2 of this thread

If you are hoping for support to actually respond its better to submit a ticket, the forums is mostly user/community based response with the occasional moderator comments.

try doing a -repair on gw2 (see Part 1.1 here)

try troubleshooting suggestions in Part 4.1 and 4.12 of this thread

• what fps # are you getting, and where?
• attach game adivsor logs. (See Part 1.2)
• what is your CPU/GPU utilization, temp and PCI-E bus speed? (See Part 4.1 or 5.1 for tools)
• list specifically all the things you’ve already tried troubleshooting.

delete your local.dat file resets back to default settings.

Arah story mode is pretty fun imo.

• Check or disable security software if you have any installed.
• Delete GW2 and temp files. Try again with admin rights and moving the gw2setup.exe else where.
