I was running around fireheart rise and decided to shoot a random rat when all of a sudden a pirate/thief looking NPC pops out of the ground and attacks me. He summoned a dozen rats that attacked me and when I defeated him, he just ran away.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I would love the addition of dueling. It gives players something to do while waiting around for a dungeon group. Duels in the open world should have downscaling applied while dueling in cities could be upscaled 80.

I do not believe that jumping around to waypoints that you already discovered counts as exploring. If you’re jumping in and out every few minutes then you’re not exploring and should be paying for it. Once I’m in a zone, I rarely use the waypoints to get around unless I’m meeting up with a friend or I have to get somewhere on the other side of the zone quickly for a group event. Exploring involves actually walking around looking for events and POI, not porting in and out to farm.

Focus on burn duration. Burn is equal to 6 stacks of bleed which makes it far more valuable and easier to keep up. bleeds wear off very quickly and need you to constantly be firing at the target to keep the stacks going.

Here’s my build. I use blowtorch and rocket kick to apply fire and there’s incendiary powder trait which adds even more fire from crits. There’s 40% extra burn time in total and 20% to all other conditions. The extra durations let me keep fire and poison up continuously along with 5-6 stacks of bleed.

The 20% condition duration, 20% extra burn time trait, and the burn on crit let’s you keep burn on all the time along with poison and bleeds. I wear all rabid gear(condition damage/toughness/precision). Healing turret is great for throwing down a big heal for everyone in range and then detonate for more. You have 2 toolbelt aoe regen skills that you can throw down in between turrets. Kit refinement lets you throw down 2 super elixirs to cleanse conditions on your party. You have two skills to slow down enemies with glueshot and elixir f. The only thing you have to buff your party with is throwing elixir B from your toolbelt. I find this build to be a good balance between damage and support. I only play PVE so I have no idea how this will work in PVP.

Why do they need an official answer on this policy. It’s obvious they need to make money off a game that has no subscription fee. People seem to think that ANet runs on water.
They made this statement 2 years before the game came out. Are you saying they have to purposely make design choices that would bankrupt them just because they said something early in development?

Grinding is a state of mind. Those people that find this game a grind probably play half a dozen MMOs a year simply because they get bored very easily. The amount of grind in this game for functionally better items is incredibly low compared to most games that I have played. If your tolerance is very low then spend a few dollars on gems and trade it for gold. It’s the least you can do for a game that has no sub. ANet is a business and it makes no sense for them to just give you a level 80 character with all ascended gear, skins and all dyes right off the bat.

It’s Revolution that is starting these grind threads to troll. He’s going to use that stupid quote from ANet about not making grindy games. That quote is taken out of context. They don’t want a game that makes you grind for better statted items that give an advantage over those that don’t. Grinding for vanity items like armor skins and dyes does not count because they don’t affect the game.

Love the damage of the Acid Bomb from Elixir gun but don’t always want it to launch you back because foes (the AI) move out of it? Press the “~” key as soon as youre in the air and it stops the fly back but still spreads the Acid

I like to throw out elixir F at close range first to slow them and then acid bomb so that they stay in the aoe longer.

One thing you can do is add them as a friend when you see them pop up. Then their name will be saved in your friends list.

Turret Deploy/Pickup Changes

Here’s my suggestion for changes to the way turrets are handled.

When you drop down a turret, you can pick it up and deploy the current turret again without c/d but the turret’s HP will stay the same as when you picked it up. When you deploy the turret, a cooldown timer will start to tell you when you can deploy a fresh turret with full HP. If you detonate the turret or it dies early, then you have to wait for the c/d to finish before you can deploy again.

I think this will make using the turrets better for mobility as you can pick up and move them at will while still having a cooldown timer before you can get a new one if it dies. The current timer only starts the turret dies or is picked up and that makes them pretty useless. There’s a trait that allows for turrets to regenerate HP and I think that you could make the regen double when it is picked up and normal when it is deployed.

Every 3 stat item has one primary and two secondary stats. The primary adds more than the secondaries. Every combination has a name(prefix) to define the stats that it gives. Look to the link above for a chart.

I love CD/toughness/precision build and use the same runes and sigils with P/P. However, I use elixir gun, rocket boots, and elixir b or c. I run 0/30/30/0/10.

I used to use a shield but realized I had enough armor and the offhand pistol has a nice fire that I can stack with the rocket boot toolbelt for 11 seconds and then trait for 20% extra burn for 2 extra seconds.

I don’t take the extra range on pistols because it really only helps with autoattack while the rest of our skills(not sure about #3) are close to medium range.

My issue with fields is that I know what fields I can drop and their effects when I set them off, but not other players’ fields. Whenever I see a bunch of overlapping fields near the boss, I just run in and set off a blast and then run off. I’m sure its helping in some way, but its too chaotic for me to care about which fields are what and which finisher causes what effect.

When I started playing this game, I didn’t even notice there was a day/night cycle. I didn’t even notice that it was night because it was still so bright and I thought it was just one of those regional environmental effects you get when you enter a region like swamps and it sorta gets darker and foggy. Also the zones don’t seem to have a synchronized day/night cycle. It’s bright and sunny in LA and then zone somewhere else and its night.

While I don’t mind if its darker during the night, I would like to see some changes like maybe different monsters or gatherable resource that appear. Maybe the aggro distance for monsters increase a little bit during the night or extra Lion Guard patrols with torches.

I agree. The personal story never develops very far because it is essentially 3 story arcs combined into one. I understand that they want something to push you into higher level zones, but it’s too disjointed. I think they should have had several parallel self contained personal quest stories. Each new one would unlock at a certain level but does not require you to start them until you wanted to. With level scaling, there’s never any danger of outlevelling your story’s quest level. With these separate side stories, the developers would have a reason to send you to different zones which would eventually let you cover all the zones and maybe even end the story off with a soloable version of a story mode dungeon. This would ensure that all players could finish story modes on the current dungeons.

Agreed. When there is a health bar in the event info, it will always show up as full if you are far away. It will update once you are close enough.

I saw him once maybe a week or two ago on Stormbluff Isle server. I zoned in to queensdale to do my daily and somebody in the zone was directing people to do certain things in order to trigger the event. I wasn’t really paying attention until I got near the swamp and the meta event said the boss was up. I reached the behemoth just as they killed it. Got the achievement for being close enough but didn’t actually attack it.

My build is purely for PVE. I’ve tried WvW and I just tickle my targets. I’ve only ever been using a condition build so I already know the sacrifice in damage when I watch other players plow through mobs quickly. I went with the extra crit chance and earth sigil. With just autoattack, I seem to have no trouble getting up to 7-8 bleed stacks from autoattack. Before it was around 5-6.

Kits truelly useless? I need Engie help/tips.

I don’t use any kits except for the elixir gun. It’s got a nice combo with 1 to slow the targets and then 4 to splash aoe damage on them while you jump backwards. I stick with my pistol primarily.

Putting in 10 points into tools for kit refinement is great for elixir gun because it drops a free super elixir and then you can fire off another for double healing/condition removal.

I’m running a condition primary with precision and toughness build. I was wondering what sigils would be best. Right now I’m thinking of either 2 sigils of earth or 1 sigil of earth and one sigil of accuracy.

Guild Towns

It’s a crazy idea that’s running through my head so it’s going to be a long wall of text. I was playing Star Trek Online and they recently added guild starbases that guilds had to work together to contribute to its construction and it could be expanded and upgraded to provide goods and services. I liked the idea but the problem was that it was instanced so that it wasn’t really interactive as a hub. Flash forward a few months later and I’m playing GW2 and there’s WvWvW where guilds can claim a structure and upgrade it plus it’s on an open PvP world so that other players can interact with it but also have the need to defend it. Here’s some rough ideas when I combined them in my head.

Setting/Location: My initial thoughts are to create a new continent in the Mists that can accommodate at least half a dozen towns. The continent will obviously not fit an unlimited number of towns since its in the open world. How a guild can claim/build a town, I haven’t thought of it yet. Maybe have to buy a charter that’s super expensive that allows your guild to participate and then let the guilds PVP it out for control. I believe there should be a PvP element so that guilds have to defend their town, but I don’t know if it should be a cross server thing or just within the server. I can see the complaints of players having to watch their towns 24hours/day in shifts.

Upgrades/Expansion: The upgrade system will kinda look like the guild upgrade system but it will require influence/karma/crafting resources and time to build stuff. There will be different categories of upgrades like social ones can be an arena or tavern. Defense would be walls/NPC guards and the other kind of stuff they already have in WvWvW.
Economy would be merchants and crafting stations of course. Economy is where things get cool though. Your town can build a resource producing structure. You can build a farm, mine, or a forest. Resource nodes will randomly appear for a certain period of time before it gets replaced with another node. Lower tier materials will appear most often and higher ones less. The town should only be able to pick one and not all of them.

Anyway, just wanted to throw out these ideas and let more creative people take over the discussion. I’ll update when I think of more stuff.

Sometimes when I’m in combat, I notice some of my skill icons glow as if to indicate that I should use it now. I can’t figure out what’s its trying to tell me because I don’t see anything different when I use it. I thinking it might be to tell me to use a combo finisher but I’ve seen my elixirs glow too.

Does it matter if your hard drive is spinning? That’s what it was built to do. If its buzzing then your case should have come with some vibration dampeners. Otherwise get an SSD.

His specs indicate a laptop. I’m not sure if you can replace the PSU cheaply or at all.

You problem does sound like a power issue. Power has nothing to do with RAM usage.

You can move the map and resize it. Moving your mouse on the right hand side of it will display a black bar/panel to drag to move. One of the corners on the right will let you resize.

This controller would have to have an insane amount of buttons. You have 10 skills and as an engineer I have 4 toolbelt skills. That’s 14 buttons minimum. Oh wait, weapon swap is 15. Targetting would be 16. Interact/Pickup loot/stomp is 17. And would you need 2 Dpads/joysticks to look and move around?
I think ground targeting would be a problem too.

As an engie, we have elixir R which if we throw it at a downed player, it will last for 10 seconds and heals a downed player 20% per second. It’s a great skill but half the time I use it, the guy uses some teleport skill and moves away from the aoe.

I stack condition damage on my engie and I find my elixir gun auto attack to be more effective than the pistol. It has a higher base damage, I get the sigil bonuses, adds weakness, and the bleed lasts 4 seconds which lets me stack more than pistol’s 2 seconds.

I go out of my way to rez players and NPCs but a lot of the time in battle, it’s not good to rez them because rezzing actually spikes your aggro on monsters so they will aim for you instead of the downed guy.

Games don’t really take advantage of hyperthreading. Diminishing returns kick in around 3-4 cores and clock speed becomes more important after that.

4.5ghz i7(oc), gtx670(oc) , 20 fps in DWE's.

I don’t have a Nvidia card, but are you overriding the in-game graphic settings from your driver menu? You can do that with AMD drivers where you set the game to always run some crazy high AA that will cripple your FPS no matter what you set in game.

I know MMOs aren’t shooters where your latency is a big concern but I would like some indicator to tell me if the lag I am encountering is because someone is downloading in my house or if it’s the server. I like how the options menu has a FPS counter there so that I can change graphic settings to compare. This would be a good place to put it.

These elite skills would be along the lines of the current racial elite skills which don’t seem to give any advantage to any race since almost everyone sticks to their own profession elites.

How about adding a racial elite trait that needs to be crafted like the legendary items we have now. My example would be for asurans since it’s the only race I have played. We can summon an offensive or defensive golem for 40 seconds. Instead of those we can craft our own golem and decide its appearance and abilties based on the combination of ingredients. So we can choose body type, melee/range base attack, 2 offensive/defensive/support abilities.

Humans could craft something like a trinket that is blessed by a certain god which lets him summon or transform into whatever he made.

I’ve been using this one. It’s a little off in terms of the amount of stuff you need to make in order to get to the exact levels they state. It’s pretty close but I’m always maybe half a level off. I think they assume you have a bonus crafting XP buff.

Whenever I am listening to characters talking in the cinematics or scouts, their voices have a weird bass distortion that rumbles as they speak. Turning down audio quality helps for a while and then it comes back.

Random Healing Turrets

I’ve been doing a lot of exploring and I keep coming across clusters of healing turrets along the road. My first thought is probably a group of bots but I don’t see any players around or if there is, they aren’t engineers. These turrets also seem to be inactive and not giving out regen. My best guess so far is maybe patrolling NPCs drop them when they fight monsters. Anyone have an answer to this?

I’m running a condition damage/toughness/precision build with pistol/shield and elixir gun and would like some suggestions on which sigils I should be using. I’ve been using sigils of corruption while leveling, but they aren’t very useful in dungeons for me because the stacks go away if you go down.
