Guild Banners on Commanders in WvW

This suggestion was inspired by a post I read earlier.

Commanders in WvW provide leadership and direction for other players to rally around. I believe that their presence on the battlefield should be displayed to both friend and foe. When they turn on their commander tag, they should have their guild banner hoisted on their back like in this picture. Enemy players will be able to recognize which player is leading an attack and what guild he is representing. Friendly players will be encouraged to protect their commanders.

I mainly use it for the toolbelt skill to stack burning with blowtorch. The main blowback skill is useful for creating distance from bosses. I treat it like the elixir gun’s acid bomb.

My engineer has explosive shot for his pistol autoattack. After the patch today, whenever I fire my pistol there is a new bass distortion echo during the blast.

As an engineer, it irks me whenever I target another player that is not an engineer and see his buff bar filled with passive buffs. The best I can do is keep a few stacks of might going. Looking at the wiki, it appears every other class gets passive bonuses from equipping signet skills. Carrying around weapon kits forces us to give up on being able to use other useful utility skills and we are forced to trait into kit refinement to get some sort of bonus. I would like to see some passive bonuses for equipping kits just like signets and if you switch into the kit then it goes away until you switch out.

I think a better suggestion would be when commanders in WvW turn on their tag, they will also be carrying a banner with their guild emblem. They will still be able to fight normally but the banner will be sticking out from their back like in your picture. If commanders are visible to all friendly players and their presence do make a difference in organizing forces, then I think the enemy should be able to spot them as well.

I adore engineer- mine is lvl72 now and I am having a blast with her
My main is a mesmer and of all the classes I think mesmer and engi are the most fun by far.

That’s exactly why I’ve chosen this race for engineer.
It seemed so unreal that it attracted me… a walking plant interested in mechanics and wielding a flamethrower… this was just so good to pass by (I really like to do things out of a box).

So, I downloaded game today, played a bit after a break.
Took me a while to get used to my old combos, Pistol + shield, FT & Elixir button smashing.
I now remember why I quit and didn’t reroll different class.
Back in the days, I really hated lack of sigils on main weapon influencing your kits… I’m mostly playing around with kits around, my main weapon is so rarely used that sigils in them are wasted .. in … like 80% of the time.

Was there anything addressed towards this or is it still there? It really closed me some doors of customizing my playstyle.

Sigils on your main weapons now apply to kits as well. So if you have pistol and shield, both will be on the elixir gun.

GW2 seems to be more CPU dependent than other games which are usually GPU dependent. You can’t really do much about your laptop.

I was talking to the herald in Hoelbrak yesterday and he said something along the lines of the dredge were attacking the Shiverpeaks and they must be getting help from something magical. Then I was exploring Timberline Falls and there’s a cave with dredge digging and releasing destroyers minions.

I think that with the dredge free from the dwarves, they have continued digging and have encountered Primordius. They see the dwarves fighting Primordius and decide that the best way to keep the dwarves from coming back and enslaving them is to ally with the dragon. It’s the enemy of my enemy is my friend routine. This would explain all that heat coming from underground.

The multiplier for dots is based on one stack of bleed damage. They each have a separate formula, but if you do the calculations it ends up like this: Poison is 2x bleed and Burn is 6xbleed.

Downscaling still makes lvl 80s way too powerful in low level zones. I’m using a condition build with no power and it’s only when I get to maybe level 70+ zones that I start having to take care about how many mobs I am pulling. I’ve helped two separate friends level up from scratch with my 80 and I always let him take a few swings in before I attack because I will kill them so fast he can’t get xp credit.

Instances of downscaling making you actually lower than the mob level are rare and if you can’t take on for example a veteran that is 2 levels higher than you, then you need to look at your build or your playstyle.

All games are “scripted events here and there”…

In some ways, i agree. But what did you expect? Skynet like AI? Learning NPCs?

I expected that NPC realism and smartness in behaviour would be better than that in GW1. Which it isn’t. Isn’t that kinda weird, and contradictory with their advertising?

In Guild Wars 1, you had instanced areas, not persistent areas. It makes all the difference in the world. Because enemies never spawned in Guild Wars 1, they couldn’t patrol. Naturally, in instances in Guild Wars 2, like dungeons, enemies do patrol.

But when you add in the respawn rate in the open world with what a patrol would do (hint: people already complain about the respawn rate in certain areas), then patrols are much harder to predict.

At any rate, there are some creatures that patrol, including the giants in Orr.

There’s no such thing as a living breathing world other than the real one. If you want that in this game, you get rid of all NPCs and just have players running the economy and politics of Tyria. Then we would have to set up a legal system to enforce property rights on loot. Oh and permanent death so you have to create an entirely new character. This game should be more like EVE online.

I’m still at a stage where I don’t run dungeons very often so getting rares/exotics are pretty hard. I do find a lot of greens and was wondering if it’s possible or worth it to throw greens into the forge hoping for rares to pop out. At the moment, I just salvage everything for the mats and sell it on TP.

This happens to me a lot when I am trying to salvage items in my inventory. As soon as I double click on the salvage kit, the cursor disappears and I have to move my mouse in and out of the window to get it back.

I’m unsure about how much harder or the number of NPCs spawned as more people are around, but events that have a progression bar do take longer with more players participating. An example would be in Queensdale where you have to gather grapes. With one player, it takes 10 to finish and with 2 players it’s 20.

You can thank WoW for this, and Arenanet for deciding to try to follow in that game’s footsteps.

What does this have to do with WoW. If a group is looking for a player with certain characteristics then they are free to do so. Players looking for a group are free to not join. Why should ANet be trying to group up people that don’t want to be together.

I haven’t tested this but I think duration based conditions like poison and fire work like this.

Player A applies 5 second poison with +condition damage
Player B applies 5 second poison with no condition damage

The poison now lasts 10 seconds on a target and each player deals their own tick of poison damage based on their condition damage stat. This is great because you’re helping other players keep their poison up longer than if they were alone yet not overriding their damage even if its lower.

How would this be abused? No one is forcing you to join the group that you don’t want to. Without the LFG tool you would still encounter that group by shouting out LFG in chat, except you would not know that there are 20 other people from other servers looking for someone and they don’t have gear requirements.

I’m sure they would not have problems coding in the LFG interface. When you open the trading post interface, it’s actually loading a chromium browser page and the info is shared among all servers. They can do the same with LFG.

I would disagree with not using explosive shot. Our main conditions that tick for damage are fire, poison and bleed. Fire and poison once applied are constant damage and we just wait for cooldowns to reapply and extend duration. Explosive shot along with sigil of earth is great for adding 7-8 stacks of bleed on top while you wait for cooldowns.

I really can’t see where the problem is, unless your server is totally different than mine.
Don’t see anything wrong at all with having to actually make contact and talk to people before you jump into the action.

This is exactly the problem. There’s 24 US servers and each one has different player demographics in terms of time zones/concurrent population. I didn’t like the idea of using that LFG site either, but it is way easier for me to find or add people to a group that way. What I’m stuck with if I don’t use the site is spamming LFG in the zone outside the dungeon and then porting to LA overflow to spam and then transferring to LA of my server to spam some more and repeat.
We can already guest over to other servers and run with people from other servers. The addition of a LFG tool won’t prevent you from making contact with people on your own server, but it does make me have to wait an hour or two to find a group.

New skills based on orders

Picking your race and profession are permanent decisions in the creation of your character and the skills that are available. Joining one of the orders is no different as it is permanent and affects the personal story(to an extent). I would like to see our characters feel more involved in their orders by having unique order based skills just like racial skills.

I use healing turret because it’s easy to deploy and detonate to heal you and everyone around you. The medkit is way too clunky for me. It forces me to stop fighting in order to heal. I find that if you drop it down close to an enemy and detonate, it actually deals good damage(this is without the pushback trait which I don’t bother with). I’ve seen over 1000 damage on regular mobs, but I haven’t been able to test it out on other players yet in WvW.

Yea the detonate is a nice add-on!
But problem is after you detonated it, you do not have it any more. And if hou don’t detonate it, the turret (all turrets in generl actually, except thumper) breaks in 10 seconds…

I don’t bother with the overcharge on the healing turret and not detonating the turret right away won’t let you summon a new one in 20 seconds. Regen is all you get for keeping it up. The water field detonate gives regen and there’s the toolbelt skill for more regen to replace it. Just treat the healing turret as any 20 second healing skill.

Do player attacks damage walls in WvW? I don’t see damage numbers pop up and as a ranged, my shots just disappear into the wall without effects. Are walls only damaged by siege equipment?

I only keep the max 250 of each item that the crafting bank holds and then sell the excess. You only need a fraction of that to max level a craft.

That’s a reasonable solution to spend all that excess karma, but I wouldn’t say it’s free. You earn both karma and gold when doing events. If you’re farming karma to buy these, you would be earning just as much gold at the same time to do the same without the item.

I’m saying that there is a tradeoff between saving time and money. This applies to most aspects of MMOs. If money is not an issue, then spend $15/month on gems and sell it for gold. Never worry about the teleport fee. If time is not an issue, then wait 20 seconds for a few load screens and save your money. Asking to save on both is instant gratification that breaks the tradeoff. Developers need that tradeoff to keep you playing their game and if players won’t tolerate that tradeoff, then there’s no point in playing.

And how are these solutions inconvenient? It’s instant teleportation. Taking WoW as an example, I would have to wait for the griffon to fly me from one waypoint to another. I don’t save time or money. Ah, but they do have a hearthstone to instantly teleport you back to a city. It’s free and instant but the cooldown is an hour or two(haven’t played wow in years). So on one hand I have to wait 20 seconds to get a free teleport to a city in GW2 or wait up to an hour in WoW. Otherwise it’s pay for an instant teleport in GW2 or pay to sit on a griffon for 5 minutes in WoW.

Hearts should not be your main source of XP and they were not designed to be. Dynamic Events are what has technically replaced what you think of “quests”. Hearts are more like guide markers to find events as there is usually an event or two that relate to the activities of that heart.

As you explore a zone and do hearts, look for scouts. They have telescope icons above their head or on the map. They will tell you where more hearts are. Most zones usually have some sort of settlement or camp and you will usually find some NPC that needs escorting and he’ll will usually take you to another part of the zone where you can find more events/hearts.

I honestly don’t know what you need all those mats. You should be able to max out any of your crafting skills with just the normal crafting slots provided.

Here’s my suggestion:

-Gold cost to buy a second slot(10g sounds reasonable)
-Extra slots cost gems
-Still have to carry around the gear for each set
-Still have to go to a trainer to pay for retrain(they are already in every major city for PVE, and I believe there’s one at the WvW spawns)
-Ability to save gear loadout for each spec

Overrun Seraph Observer Camp

There is a seraph observation camp in brisban wildlands. This camp is constantly overrun by bandits that don’t stop spawning to attack this place. On my first time through the zone, I assumed that it was a tied to a broken event. It’s been months and it’s still the same. I’m wondering if this happens only on my server or if it’s designed this way.

I suggested this a long time ago, but the problem with this idea is that the zones are not synchronized with each other on the same server. They are essentially isolated from each other which is why it can be day in one and night in the next. Then there’s the issue of overflow servers.

The example I used was a pirate ship landing off the coast and a world boss pirate and his crew wander around zones looking for treasure and causing general havoc and the events would be to slowly push him back onto his ship for a final boss battle.
