You just have to fiddle with the graphic settings to get good performance. Don’t use those presets. I’m running with everything on highest(even supersampling) with shadows, reflections, and all the check boxes at the bottom turned off. Vsync makes everything feel sluggish and best texture filtering kills your performance. I get 50+ FPS everywhere I go. I set the WvW settings to highest quantity and low quality and most zerg fights give me around 20-30 FPS. Extra large zergs on both sides fighting will get me 10FPS.

I’m running i5 760, 4 gigs ram, radeon 5850 all at stock clock speeds with SweetFX.

Water field blast issues?

kokocabana.8153

Regenerating mist’s water field lasts for 1 second. I ignore it.

Overcharge abilities on turrets only take effect on the turret’s next regular attack/heal. Healing turret’s c/d is 3 seconds so if you do not get overcharge as soon as it is deployed then cleansing burst won’t happen until the next aoe regen 3 seconds later. What you want to do is spam healing button by pressing it 3 or 4 times really fast and then detonating. This will cause it to overcharge as soon as it deploys and then blast the field. Since the water field stays after detonating, you can use elixir gun’s acid bomb to get a second water blast.

Entitlement threads again. Every game requires you to play the way the developers have intended. They give you choices, but it is still the choices they decided on. That’s like complaining that there’s no space cowboy class in this game because the devs are forcing me to play with the classes they made.

You just said in the post I quoted that you enjoy firefall because you are able to acquire and craft better gear and also acquiring ascended gear in GW2 is a goal. That is vertical progression.

Ascended gear was made for fractals because of the agony resistance. I haven’t acquired any ascended gear yet even though I have enough for a full set because it doesn’t have the stats I want. It may have a few more points than exotic, but using them doesn’t work with a lot of builds that players are running. To put it in WoW terms, I could run raids in my PvP arena gear which has more stat points than my PvE gear, but I won’t because it doesn’t have the stats I need. More stats doesn’t equal the best gear if it doesn’t fit with your build.

Bag and bank space should be bought with gold, not gems. A player at launch buys their space for 1 gold, while a new player has to spend 20. Evidently new players are not supposed to hold onto anything, or take things like cooking…

A player at launch buys their space for the same price as a new player now.

That’s because 1g at launch has the same value as 20g or however many right now. It’s called inflation.

Plus the gem price has never changed in regards to the cost in real money, which is the only cost that matters.

kokocabana.8153

Yes, they catered to people that felt the game had a shallow end game nothing to work towards, but that right there to me is the problem! What was wrong with just playing the game? Enjoying the content? Why did the progression-minded folks feel the need to corrupt an innovative idea?

You can say “simply ignore the progression and just play…” but that is like telling a fat kid to ignore the red velvet cake in front of him. Very easy to say, hard to do.

I would have been completely content and enthralled if the reward-fiasco did not begin and the biggest reward was your own fun. Now, everything you do is laced with incentive and reward. So instead of just enjoying, Im checking off boxes to complete to have a bite of that red velvet cake.

Im playing Firefall right now. You get the same types of rewards for nearly everything you do. Resources, ingame currency, experience. Everything you need to progress your battleframe you can acquire by doing anything you want. Anything. Because all the resources gained from any of these activities can be used to craft better and better gear until you craft the final tier of gear.

In GW2, the best tier of gear is ascended. I cannot only dungeon run and obtain ascended gear. I cannot simply do WvW and obtain ascended gear. I cannot log in, do a few jumping puzzles, craft and then do the pent/shelt farm in Orr for ascended gear. I have to mix and match certain activities to make sure I get that Laurel. In a game like firefall, anything I do nets me resources/mats, ingame currency, xp. Thats all I need, so I can truely without a doubt do anything I want and Im still working toward my goals.

I believe that is what Arenanet wanted to accomplish with GW2, but missing the mark.
(this might have strayed off topic)

It’s clear that you enjoy vertical progression as an endgame, but this game is focused on horizontal progression. There’s nothing wrong with either, you’re just playing a game that doesn’t fulfill what you need.

It really depends on what you find enjoyment from in this game. Some people like leveling and exploring, others like WvW and PvP, and others like to RP. The problem with leveling and exploring is that players will always devour content faster than developers can create. For PvPers and RPers, the devs just have to create a framework and the players themselves create their own content to enjoy through competition or social interactions.

Not sure what to make of taking juggernaught without a flamethrower.

You appear to be running a lot of rabid gear which is great for condition builds that take advantage of crit procs, but your build doesn’t know what it wants to do. Pistol/shield is not great for conditions because you lose out on blowtorch and glueshot. Condition builds rely on keeping up burns and rockets boots are not enough. You need to be using a sigil of earth to take advantage of your high crit and condition damage. As a roamer, you need to be self sufficient and I think you are lacking in condition cleansers. I would recommend dropping a kit for elixir c. Grenades are great in PvE and spamming into groups of players, but not in 1v1 or 1v2 where everyone is running in different directions.

It took a while, but I was able to beat him.

It helps to always target your opponent, to be able to see what skills he has up. When he makes his little comment upon launching his signature move, you ideally want to have just done your Bluff, with Belch and Water available.

Once his Critique is up, I’d go with with a Belch/Drink/Water combo, to wait the Critique out, then blast Bluff as often as possible, until he Critiques again.

Adnul is a test of endurance, your best bet is to stay as high in your health as possible; your Belches will admittedly do less damage, but you’ll have the HP to last another Critique cycle.

The ‘Woo’ skill seems to be most effective against him but only if you drop it right. I think I only beat him because he was around 55%, threw the Woo as he threw Critique, and I was able to change the pattern to Water/Belch/Drink/FAKE/FAKE/FAKE, and finally just just wore him down.

It is a test of endurance, but no amount of skill will work when he uses his skill non-stop. I tried for an hour and he after a certain point, he will simply recast critique everytime as soon as it wears off. I can survive 2 critiques with enough hp, using boast, and then water/belch. You can’t survive a third recast in a row. That’s nine rounds without being able to fake.

Had to mango pie+regen booster for him. The others weren’t too hard because they were easier to predict and woo-ing when they are low health beats them.

Selectable Difficulty in LS Dungeons

in Suggestions

Posted by: kokocabana.8153

kokocabana.8153

While I personally had no problems with getting the achievements in AR, I know plenty of people did and all they wanted to do was see the story instead of dealing with dungeon mechanics. If ANet is going to only tie dungeon instances with story, then they should allow for 2 difficulty settings. It will be similar to the infantile/normal modes of SAB. Everything you experience will be the same except the difficulty and eligibility of certain achievements. They can name the two modes story and challenge.

I’m going to use AR as an example:

Story mode – The fight mechanics of all the bosses will be the same except the damage on things like laser walls, Mai’s attacks, and cannon barrage AoEs will be heavily reduced. Completing this dungeon will give you the achievement for capturing Mai and a scaled down gold/karma reward. Players running this mode cannot receive credit for challenge achievements such as faster than light, personal space, and unfriendly skies.

Challenge mode – No changes to the existing dungeon.

This separation allows for players that only want to see the story to do so. It also allows less experienced players to practice the boss mechanics with relative safety before they try for the challenge mode achievements. The only group of players that will not like this idea will probably be achievement completionists, who will want to get credit for the challenge achievements in story mode.

New players do not need extra bag slots…LOL. So new players are not supposed to take crafting (good luck being a chef…), or hold onto anything they like the look of?

NOTHING excuses 20 gold for a single bag slot. I paid less than 3 for mine.

It’s called deposit collectibles to the bank. Those crafting material bank slots already provide more slots of storage than a new player would ever need. If you are actually crafting, then you never need more than a single stack of any material in order to max it out. This only affects players that hoard materials to sell on TP.

It is patently obvious that you have never done any cooking. Hell, it seems like you do not even know how it works on a basic level.

Also I love how you just dismiss new players holding onto anything.

I’ve maxed out all my crafting and made myself a bunch of 20 slot bags. I have never run into storage problems with the default bank spaces provided for crafting mats. I’ve also never spent any gems on bag or bank slots.

What would any new player need with 250 of any cooking ingredients? By the time they reach that point, they wouldn’t be new anymore.

The problem with Aether Retreat

kokocabana.8153

If they made an easy/normal mode to choose from on these dungeons, then there should be no rewards from the easy mode other than to see the story. Any form of scaled rewards would only lead players to grind away at easy modes because they would run it 5 times in the same timeframe as a single regular mode.

No slight intended, but that sounds just a tad bit elitist. How about we also say, “no drops from any mobs prior to Orr” (or whatever zone/region you feel is the most difficult)? Why should anyone doing the “easy” zones get anything for their relatively smaller effort?

All activities have—or are supposed to have—appropriately scaled rewards. If devs made it so the sum value of rewards in an easy mode dungeon version were so attractive that it was a siren song for hordes of slavering farmers, then it’s their mistake (cough CoF1 cough). On the assumption they’re smart enough not to repeat certain dubious decisions and/or are quick enough to correct them, there’s no reason to make easier mode versions rewardless, just appropriate like all other aspects of the reward system are expected to be.

Providing easy mode would allow for players to be able to see the story and at the same time give them practice for the same encounters in normal mode. It should be like SAB’s infantile mode. It lets you run through everything in the normal mode, but you can’t get credit for the achievements.

Apparently the reason you have to o.c your i5 to get decent fps in 100v100 fights in wvw is because gw2 only uses a single thread?

Please optimize this game to work will 4 cores, its rediculess that my ….

i5 3570k # 3.8ghz, 8gb 1600mhz vengence ram, 7950 oc’ed to 7970 / 680 speeds (actually surpasses both, in clock speed and in benchmarjs)

- computer can’t run wvw without going into the 20 fps somtimes in huge 100v100, 200v200 zerg battles.

EDIT: I RUN EVERYTHING AT 1080P EVERYTHING MAXED EXCEPT REFLECTIONS ON ONLY TERRAIN AND UNITS.

(lowering anything els, besides the resolution doesnt increase my fps at all in big zerg fights)

I think you are confused. Most modern games(including GW2) already take advantage of multiple cores, but they run single threads on each core. There are only so many tasks that the game can hand out to the CPU to process at a time like graphics/physics/sound/networking. Which is why the clock speed of individual cores are so important. This is true for all games that are CPU dependent. They only way you can see performance increases is to overclock your CPU so each core is faster.

Why don’t they multithread and take advantage of hyperthreading? Very few if any games actually use it and they would need a new engine for that. The engine was borrowed from GW1 heavily modified, but clearly it was never meant to be handling such large numbers of players as seen in WvW. This was why culling was introduced and they have allowed players to adjust the settings based on their own system performance.

Bag and bank space should be bought with gold, not gems. A player at launch buys their space for 1 gold, while a new player has to spend 20. Evidently new players are not supposed to hold onto anything, or take things like cooking…

The primary market is real money->gems. ANet set that rate at launch and it has never changed.

Gold->gems exchange is a secondary market which is simply a convenience that ANet provided. It was absolutely not necessary for them to do this.

New players do not need extra bag slots. They need to upgrade their bags or start a guild on their own and get a guild vault. I have been upgrading my bags to 20 slots and one day when the slots go on sale, I will buy them. I have been playing nearly since launch without extra bag/bank slots.

Me and my Guild have completed this dungeon at least a hundred times already, and 1/4 of the people we took through it were under leveled and in green/blue gear. And while they did occasionally spend a bit of time looking up at the ceiling, we completed every run. When you are up-leveled you do not have have access to every skill or trait that a “True” level 80 has. And you need to adjust your playstyle becuase you are weaker than a “True” level 80. But while you may be weaker you just need to rely on your dodges and your skill with your class. I have a couple members in my guild that are level 50 and are more skilled than many of the level 80 PUG’s out there.

Once you learn the Dungeon Mechanics this is actually a very fun challanging fight.

@ OP: Are you EU or NA? If you will be online in an hour and are on a NA Server, we can take you through this dungeon.

I’ve had the same experience with the dozen runs I’ve completed. All my runs are pugs that I randomly join or invite through gw2lfg and I have never kicked anyone from my groups because of level or gear. Knowledge and experience of the dungeon mechanics are more important than level and gear.

Both Guild Wars on one Laptop?

I think you have mixed up memory with storage.
Storage is on the hard drive that holds your all programs and Windows. Having both Guild Wars game on your hard drive is perfectly fine. You can store as many games or programs as your hard drive can hold and it will not affect performance unless you actually fill it up.

Memory is on the RAM and only fills up when you run programs and games. When you stop running it, it will use less RAM. If you tried to run both games at the same time, then you will have performance issues because you will run out of RAM.

So long story short, you will have no problems.

Dungeons have two modes, story and explorable. You need to finish story mode in order to unlock explorables. Or if the party leader has finished story he can start it even if you haven’t. There isn’t really any need to run story mode more than once other than to help others finish it so it is hard to find players to fill a story mode group. Explorables are kinda like heroic dungeons in WoW. They are the ones you want to be running many times to get tokens off of bosses to trade in for gear. Explorables have different paths to choose from that result in different fights/bosses. You can only choose one path per run.

Running dungeons at their minimum level should not be a hindrance. The issue is that it takes time to learn the encounters in each dungeon and there is no good way to learn them without dying a lot. Since there is a level scaling in this game, all players get scaled down to whatever level the dungeon is. Being higher level helps by giving you skills and stats to work with, but they have to be just as careful. Dungeons groups can be across servers, so use the LFG site www.gw2lfg.com and find a group to invite/join.
