Every time you buy a key to open a BL chest, you do get something. It’s called boosters and service items. You are always guaranteed to get these items and that is exactly what you are paying for. These items are worth something even if you do not care about them. Just because you open a chest and consider it empty if it doesn’t have a skin in it doesn’t mean that you were cheated.
While you are right, you receive your gems worth of items typically… you are not considering the fact people DONT care about them and are only after desired item in the chest, otherwise they wouldn’t buy it in the first place… so techincally to that person the chest IS EMPTY. If it was to be fair, put those skins on the TP seperate.
The boosters and service items are the main purpose of the black lion chests. It’s in the item description. The rare shinies are just a bonus. It’s like when a baby gets a new toy and they ignore it because they are more interested in playing with the cardboard box and bubblewrap than the toy itself.
Another example: I could spend all my money buying fortune cookies until I get the fortune I want. I don’t bother eating the cookies. If I don’t get it then I blame the cookie maker for his RNG. You’d say, “Why would you spend all that money on something worthless?”. Worthless to you but it has value to me and I’ll keep buying them until I get the one I want.
If you think lockboxes are unethical, then vote with your wallet and stop participating what you believe to be unethical actions. Spending money on stuff you don’t want makes no sense, yet from ANet’s perspective lockboxes are selling like hotcakes.

Server populations are based on total accounts on the server and not total online players. The population status will decrease randomly because it is players transferring off.
I believe it has to do with difficulty scaling and boss mechanics. You can’t design a good solo boss the same way as a grouped boss.
Soloable bosses have to be made simple so that players can survive without being revived and the lack of group combos/healing. Scaling it up turns the boss into a rock that stands there for 10 minutes while you just burn him down.
Group bosses can be more complex and dangerous because you can rely on others to help. Scaling them down can work as long you have more than one person.
Designing the boss to act one way if there is one player and another if there is more than one is a waste of time. The soloable version would be probably easier to do and grouping up would only make it harder for the same reward.
That makes no sense. You say you have time to run the dungeon with your b/f, but no time to run it yourself? Those aren’t mutually exclusive things. You can both play the instance at the same time, but both be soloing it. Problem solved.
The single player is one room with one boss, then you get the option to do a multiplayer explorable mode.
IMO saying you’re not going to do any of it because you have to kill 1 boss alone is like saying you won’t do AC with friends because you have to run across Ashford solo to meet them.
Agreed. I better not see anyone complain about missing out on achievements/lore after this chapter ends because they refused to be forced to solo this 10 minute(or however long it takes to finikitten) instance. They will eventually move on to complain about how they are being forced to group up for exploration mode just like F&F.
I don’t know if I’m the only one seeing this, but whenever I see a charr mining ore, I see them holding a sickle.
In a way, it is permanent content if you think of it as permanently fresh content.
I haven’t played it yet, but are you not allowed to bring people in your party?

No where does it say it will never come back. And for your double purchase, pay attention next time.
There was mention of new items including the sickle a few weeks ago. I made sure to slowly convert my gold to 800 gems right away because I knew a spike would occur as soon as the item would be introduced. This only affects those who aren’t paying attention and wait until it’s too late to convert gold to gems.

I did read your post and that is the lava sample in your picture. If you want to know where the vent sample is, go into the achievement menu and hover your mouse over the vent sample achievement. It will tell you where it is.
The wiki entry seems pretty clear about what happens when you upgrade. It doesn’t specifically mention the exotic->ascended process, but why would you think it would be different?
It’s like if I wanted to salvage my legendary weapon to get back my precursor. I look at the wiki and can’t find the info and assume it will work even though everything else I salvage breaks down into raw materials.

I have had a player targeting me with fishing poles and planks knocking me down or slowing me with stuff. I had the most points in that round and he just kept on doing it even when I didn’t have the crab to stop me from getting any more points and letting someone else overtake me.
Some players just like to be jerks, but it could be that he has a friend or guildie trying to get the winning achievement and he’s trying to make sure they win once.
Looks pretty complete to me. I’m looking at the wiki and it says:
Southsun Sightseer
Visit each waypoint on Southsun Cove and cross the bridge between Dappled Shores and Driftglass Springs.
You have all the waypoints and I’m pretty sure you would have crossed that bridge many times when exploring.
Have you done the jumping puzzle to get up on the islet in the NW corner? I don’t think it counts for anything , but you can reveal the area from the ground without actually getting up there. Maybe going into crab toss arena counts?
Why don’t you take a screenshot of your map so we can see what you might be missing.
Where exactly are you trying to collect this sample? I just read another thread and there was someone confusing the Islet sample with the Vent sample.
Vent sample is covered in steam on the ground along a wall by the start of the jumping puzzle. Islet sample is on top at the end of the jumping puzzle. There’s also the geyser sample which is in driftglass by the settlement and is on top of a tall geyser.
These 3 samples could easily be mistaken for a “vent” sample.
If you have already collected that sample, then it will still allow you to collect again but nothing will happen.

I think you are collecting the wrong sample. The vent sample is by the start of the jumping puzzle on the ground covered in steam along the wall. The one you seem to be describing on top at the end of the jumping puzzle is called Islet sample. Hover over the achievement and it will tell you a more specific location.
There’s really no way to have an open world design with permanent changes after a dynamic event. Every event would be one-time and technically never come back regardless of success or failure. So the 4 players that completed the event would be the only people to ever see the event unfold. This may work in a totally instanced game like GW1, but not GW2.
ANet has done a good job with adapting by introducing Living Story phases to have some changes to the world based on an overarching event. It’s like dynamic events but on a larger scale. There’s still no fail conditions in this, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t have a Living Story that ends with us winning the battle, but losing the war which can lead to other stories.
Laptops are made for portability and not game performance not matter what the marketing says. Patches won’t solve your problems.
Try turning off shadows/reflections/best texture filtering/AA. Those eat up performance and the game still looks great without them. After that, try lowering shaders. Texture quality is only a problem when there are a lot of players on screen. Most of the other options give decent increases in performance without lowering image quality(except shaders) that much.
If you want to get hands on, turn every setting to its lowest and then play a bit while slowly turning up one option at a time to see any differences in image quality and FPS.

Populations are based on the total number of player accounts on the server and not current online players. Very high/Full servers just means that a lot of players call that server home. The population status only goes down when players transfer off that server.
The AH runs on the awesomium.exe process. Make sure it’s not blocked by firewall or some other security thing in windows.
There aren’t quests in the traditional sense. Hearts are kinda like it, but you don’t need to talk to the NPC if you don’t want to. I like to just to get some context/story as to why we should kill the 20 monsters. They usually want you to do something in the area and after you complete it, they will offer something for sale in exchange for karma points. You can find them by wandering into their area or talking to scout NPC who have telescope icons on the map to reveal nearby ones. Don’t forget to check your mailbox each time you complete a heart because the NPC will send you money in a thank you letter.
Though hearts do sound like quests, it is the dynamic events that are the replacement for “quests” in this game. The main reason for hearts is to act as a guide to dynamic events in the area. Most of the time, things that you will be doing on the event will also apply to the heart. There are times when events will be in a chain and lead to another event right after.
Right now there’s an event going on in a zone called Southsun Cove and it is drawing all the players there. The first phase is on right now with the second phase coming in tomorrow and it should all end by June 12th I think.

I would rather believe that the Consortium is trying to end world hunger.
The achievements Canach Trapper to Contractually Obligated are not in the game yet. Probably wait until the next phase on the 28th.
The only things that can one shot you are the champions and you shouldn’t be taking them on alone anyway. The champion karka in the hive cave has a stomp and roll and the champion wind rider on the jumping puzzle islet has a spin. Teamwork!
From my interpretation, it sounded like I had to end the round holding the crab and also making the other players get knocked down in the last seconds. I really thought it would be impossible, but I got this one without even knowing it. Once you play a few rounds, you realize the best way to stay alive is to dash through or towards the karka.
I think this deserves to be an achievement. It’s challenging and if you are aiming for all the crab toss achievements, you will get better at crab toss. Finding samples gets you 12 and they are just sitting out in the open with the exception of the islet one.

Are you running with the 200% MF buff? And for your zerg is it just killing the champ and looting chests because MF doesn’t work on chests.
This zone is hard for everyone. I’m level 80 with all exotics and I still have to be careful when fighting more than one non-young mobs at a time. They have high hps and strong/annoying attacks. With so many players running around, events are getting scaled up to level 84 mobs.
Call out in chat to form a group. This zone was almost designed to require teamwork.
Eh…. PayPal isn’t exactly the most trustworthy company. More power to others, but a lot of people, myself included, aren’t keen on their terms of service that basically say they can freeze your funds for any reason at any time.
You don’t have to keep money in paypal. I just use it as a funnel to buy things using my credit card without having to give my CC information to every individual website. You can do the same with your bank information.

You don’t have to transfer money into Paypal before buying something. You just use Paypal to charge the amount directly onto your credit card.
I’ve only been going around the island each day to harvest the passifloras and then farm the champ instigators for an hour or two. I kill any nearby mobs while waiting for champs to spawn. I wouldn’t call this farming since my intention is getting rares/exotics, but I get around 1 or 2 each day from this. I realized that those settler rioters that spawn around the instigator champs can actually drop wooden chests that only contain southsun crates.
I doubt drop rates have been nerfed. Whenever it comes to games of chance, everyone has their own superstitious beliefs like blowing on your dice for good luck and justifications for why they aren’t winning.

As with all these RNG chest complaint threads, just because the crate doesn’t have what you want doesn’t mean it is empty or worthless. Do you destroy all loot that is not the exact item you want?
I’ve looted 6 so far and the karka shells and passion flowers are nice for upgrading the new backpiece. Some people don’t have time to farm shells and passiflora each day. As a bonus, I got an ugly sword skin and a mini Faren.

It’s the usual tradeoff of time/money. Is the time you save from farming that much gold worth 17 pounds to you?

I tend to try and talk to every named NPC and interact with everything when I explore a new zone and when this new event started last week I only found 2 memos. One at the camp in the NW and another at Camp Karka. I just noticed yesterday that there is one in the central camp now. Was that always there or did it just pop up this week?
I was using Icing for my white-ish looks until I found Celestial.
You should buy the omelette regardless and keep it in your bank until you hit level 75. If you are unable to finish the other achievements to hit 25, then you will always have this one waiting for you.
I’ve never bothered with collecting minipets because there’s too many I can’t obtain and I hate incomplete collections. I just picked up one of the new minis in Southsun from a crate and it doesn’t say whether it can still be traded if I use it.

Two friends and I want to start 3 new toons and try to level up purely from partying up and completing each others’ personal quests in order. I was wondering if the difficulty scales up with more people like open world events or will it simply be a pushover with 3 of us in an instance.

I’m constantly fiddling with my graphic settings have found Southsun to run a little worse than other zones. It’s usually textures/shadows/best texture filtering that is causing slowdowns, but not this time. I find turning down reflections to terrain + sky or off gives a very large boost in FPS. I keep trying to compare the difference but it seems to mainly affect water reflections. However, even in the middle of the island with no water in sight, my performance still drops when reflections are turned up. I know some metallic armors have a bit of reflectiveness but that can’t be eating up all that performance.
When I think of engineer, I think of the one in TF2 since we both have tools and turrets.

I find that the achievement log for the the living story is getting too full. There are many that could be streamlined through heart NPCs and give some newer players a little more direction other than constantly opening up their achievement log to check things off their list.
For example:
-Researcher Levvi is a heart NPC that wants you to help him collect 10 samples around the zone. Return the 10 samples to him and he’ll offer the flower backpiece for sale with karma. The only achievement you need then would be to find all 11 samples rather than individual achievements for each one.
Even at level 80 and equipped with all exotics, Southsun is still challenging. It’s not a zone that let’s you easily wander around alone because those veteran karka aggro from a good distance and those floating jellyfish guys have incredible range and steal all my boons. With all the players running around the zone, event spawned NPCs get scaled up pretty high as you may notice up to level 84 monsters.
With all that said, none of the achievements require you to be high leveled in any way and there are lots of players there who you can party up with to help. The only one that specifically requires a high level is the omelette eating achievement. You need to be level 75, which I think they should just create lower level food for lower levels. If you really need to have that achievement, then just buy the omelette and save it until you are 75 and then eat it. The achievement will still be around after it ends.
I posted this in the bug section it has been buried with no responses.
The champion instigator in Southsun can cast a burn condition called burning pitch on players that does not get cleansed by elixir c or its toolbelt skill. All other condition removal skills still work. I think the problem is that elixir c converts conditions into boons and because this burn condition is named differently, the skill does not know how to convert it.
