Right now the best way to make gold is to participate in events in the Queen’s Pavillion, you get some nice drops and you can do it on any character as you’re upleveled to 80, and shouldn’t have much problems as long as you stay with the zergs (just look for the commander icons), plus you’ll probably get to 80 quickly by doing them.

Just linking a small interview anet did to ign, some interesting quotes on it:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/09/guild-wars-2-teases-anniversary-plans

It takes the story of the last year and brings it all together. It makes it clear where everything has been going and really closes a lot of open questions that players have had. It’s a story that really affects the entire world and permanently creates content and change for the entire world game-wide, which is really something that’s important to us and we want to showcase that that’s where stuff is headed.

Hope it means we’re getting some permanent content this time around, I’ll wait and see, I guess..

OK thanks, I’ll have to wait to do the next daily tonight.

Anet is really make players grind for these minis.

I don’t think that 1 quick item a day for 3 days over the course of an entire month constitutes a “grind”… by any definition.

Not to mention that IMHO this particular update’s achievements have been way less grindy than others, considering that you can just ignore if you want any achievement that you might feel is grindy and still get the meta just by doing the dailies, something we couldn’t do in previous updates.

Right now I’m just salvaging everything.

Yellows for the chance at an ecto to sell on the TP with master’s salvage kits, green and below I salvage with fine kits for the monthly achievements, I deposit collectables and anything that remains goes to the TP.

When not going for the monthly, my standard routine is white and blue = salvage, green = vendor, yellow and above = salvage with master kit.

Well I could play Wall Street Raider or Capitalism II if I wanted to do tp all day. And yes I want good rewards cause whats the point of playing the game otherwise. I need loot to function. Good loot not zerg choo choo loot, not white drops, and pres and legendaries to start dropping.

Where am I going to get my 22g a week I am losing atm? I haven’t a clue myself. :O

22g a week roughly translates to 3g a day (actually closer to pi gold a day.. ). So instead of CoF1 CoF1 CoF1 CoF1 just do CoF1 HotW1 CoE1 AC3 (the ones I know are short and quick, at least), that should net you about 4g just from the rewards each day not taking into account drops, token bought rares for salvage and so on…

You can get them rarely from dailies, I’ve been doing dailies when I can (most of the days) since they were introduced, and gotten 1 so far.

Other than that, buy them, they cost 200 gems for 5 (roughly $2.5 or 6g 30s).

Thank you for the advice, I really enjoyed my paladin tank when I played WoW.

What are guardians like when using two handed sword as appose to main hand and shield? Is two handed sword the viable dips spec for them?

I generally use a greatsword (2h) specced for a mix of DPS and support (I use staff as secondary, switching to scepter-shield when needing ranged attacks), and seems to work great so far. I do decent damage, of course not as much as a full serker warrior, but with lots of survavility and support.

In general each weapon seems best suited for a different task in guardians, greatsword = AoE melee damage, Staff = Support with a little bit of AoE short to medium range (the autoattack is AoE, so it’s great to tag enemies in big encounters), scepter = ranged both ST and AoE, sword = single target melee DPS, Hammer = Control with some AoE Melee DPS, mace = defense and healing, shield = defense, torch = burning and cleansing (I think I didn’t miss any)

Having leveled both, I think I enjoyed guardian better than warrior, but mainly it’s personal preference, I’ve found I always tend to gravitate towards melee magic users in most MMOs I’ve played (druid and paladin in WoW, Justicar in Rift, Dark Templar in Age of Conan and so on).

My asura warrior is the third character I’ve gotten to 80 (others a sylvari guardian and norn mesmer), I found myself trying different things on each one as I leveled, going to different areas, picking different orders, different things in the personal story (though only my guardian has gone past claw island).

Do you use the backpack "compact" feature?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

In general I use a safe box (armorsmith equivalent to the invisible bags) as the last one on my inventory, I keep things there I won’t sell like weapons, minis, salvage kits, spare gathering tools, and so on. Consumables that I might use at anytime (food, boosts I don’t put in bank, express bank, merchants, etc) go on the first bag starting from the first slot. Everything else lands between those two areas.

That way I can use compact (and I use it often) without altering where I have my stuff. My one gripe, though, is anytime I switch from a set with 2 1h weapons to a 2h one using the hero panel (something I do with my guardian, usually to switch between scepter-shield to staff), the main hand weapon lands neatly where the 2h used to be, but the offhand one lands elsewhere in the inventory and I need to open it to move it to the safe box.

well I bought a full T3 of the assassins (Cept for legs) full t2 of the light cloth, so thas 11, then 5 pieces of the t1 light … so I am at 16, then I bought full t2 medium and got no credit, and a couple piece of the heavy and no credit SO I am confused as to what else I need to do

The fashion achievements are for unique pieces of gear based by tier. So buying a second T2 set for a different armor weight won’t count since you already got T2 armor, it isn’t considered unique. You basically need to get all pieces of T1, T2 and T3 that you can wear. So, you need to buy the T3 legs and the T1 piece you missed and you should get the achievement.

EDITED: I though it was when wearing, which is not the case (got confused for when I bought T1 for my guardian), the problem is that they need to be unique based on tiers, corrected that, sorry..

A noob's take on things

About the crafting, before learning a crafting profesion, be sure to talk to the NPC and ask them what can you craft with that profesion. For example, you ask the master armorsmith what can you craft, he’ll asnwer "Heavy armor, inventory boxes, and runes. ", while a leatherworker (which is the profesion you probably want) will say "Medium armor, inventory packs, and runes. ". You can see what can each profession craft here:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

BTW, no biggie if you chose the wrong crafting profession, you can drop them and pick a new one anytime, and you don’t even lose progress at all, for example, it you already leveled armorsmith to 50, drop it and become a leatherworker, if in the future you want to take armorsmith for whatever reason (making armor for an alt, for example), it’ll still be where you left it at 50. Doing this is entirely possible to have a single character with all professions leveled to 400.

And as for the Queen’s Pavillion, it’s a living story event that will be here for about a month. All mobs you face them are high level veterans and champions, and you, as an outleveled 20, are still a bit weaker than a full 80 so don’t expect to survive in there solo, try to stay with a group. Look for the commander icons (look like a blue rhomboid taco thing in the map), and try to get to them, chances are there will be a lot of people around them doing the events. You will die a lot (I do as level 80), but you’ll also be resurrected a lot, and the events will give you some nice XP and loot.

No, you can’t change factions, but you can still mix and match armor and weapons. You just need another character advanced enough in the faction you want the armor or weapon from, make him buy it, transmute its looks (with a transmutation crystal) into a low level white item you can get from armorsmiths or weaponsmiths on main cities or starter areas, it’ll now be account bound, so you can just put it on the bank, grab it with the character you intend to use the skin on, and transmute its look again to a piece of armor or weapon with the stats you want, it’ll now become soulbound to that character. Only limitation is that if it is armor it must remain within the same armor class (as in, you can’t transmute the look of a piece of light armor to a heavy armor character).

Edit – List of the only worthwhile skins imo (big TY to Anet for these btw):

- Ebon
- Final Rest
-Guild Pillar
- Nightmare, Peacemakers, Dragon’s Depth, Fractals

I liked the aetherized one… though it wouldn’t fit any of my characters.

Dagger Skin Disappointment

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

Daggers and staves have the least exciting skins for me. As an elementalist, this makes it very hard to get good looking weapons, especially since I’m an asura and they are all so small! I need something flashy for them to be even visible. So far the Zenith staff is the best, but I would really prefer a staff with some fire effects (as the theme of my character is fire). I really wanted a fused dagger, but I refuse to buy lottery tickets from the gem store.

There’s always the destroyer dagger:
http://dulfy.net/2013/03/11/gw2-dagger-gallery/#11
and the molten dagger:
http://dulfy.net/2013/03/11/gw2-dagger-gallery/#32

Personally, while I don’t have a character that wields a dagger, there are several that I love their design. Some of the ones I really like (note that I’m not a big fan of over the top particles, no problem with more subtle ones):

Would be funny (specially for the pro-dueling crowd) if it did that randomly, but make it so you have to fight each other instead of an NPC..

Gauntlet is not playable for every class

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

It’s the unfortunate side effect of making content more challenging. If they make content so that it can be beaten by every single class/build combination out there, it’s hard to make the challenging (for example, having the same encounter being beatable by a heavy DPS glass cannon, a slow DPS tanky character, a healing oriented character and so on). That’s actually why one of the main complains about PvE is lack of challenge.

So yes, you’ll probably need to respec and regear to defeat some of the encounters, as you might sometimes need as well for high level fractals (for example). It sucks if you have only one character with a spec you’re already confortable with but that might not be good for this particular content, and not enough gold to regear it (though getting cheaper TP rares and karma/badges of honor exotics might help offset the costs), but it’s the unfortunate side effect of trying to get more challenging content into the game.

At least this content will last for a month, so you have some time left, and will be back next year if you still can’t manage. Heck, I remember back when I played WoW missing the headless horseman event (halloween) the first time it came around just because I didn’t have a character with a high enough level to do it, had to wait for the following year for it to come back.

What of the Mursaat?

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

There was a dev post little time ago talking about the mursaats, basically they said that the mursaats were in the early production ideas, but they felt that they were too important to appear in an update that wasn’t all about them in the first place.

EDIT: found it:

I originally had the Mursaat/White Mantle as one of the factions. They’re certainly a stronger pick than something like bandits or pirates, but there’s a lot of factors that go into these sorts of things. Creating a new army never before seen is pretty complex and takes a lot of time and iteration. Not only is there a large design cost for it, but art has to create a brand new environment, new armor, new character models, new weapons, and those are not simple tasks either. I played a ton of GW1, so I know their significance. I also knew how much time I had to do this, what my asset request bank was, and knew that I couldn’t do the Mursaat justice… especially with such a small area.
If I’m gonna do Mursaat and White Mantle, I (as a hardcore GW1 player) would want it to be epic and grand. We haven’t ..forgotten.. about them, I just have higher expectations for them than what I was capable of putting out in this release.

…and yes I’m proud of that reference.

I for sure never had this big of a list of NEW achievements to complete in 2 weeks. Never before.

What we did see before was that one or 2 of the already available achievements could only be completed in the last 2 weeks. Thats something else as adding a whole new part of story including a whole new list of achievements.

Sky pirates of tyria added 20 new achievements and a new meta for 2 weeks (June 25 to July 9).

I did not have a lot of time the last 2 weeks but thats not the point. I have been complaining about temporary content since they started with it and is has only become worse and worse and worse.

You really don’t think people will get faster tired of a game that pressures you to play? And the completionist in my does not want to play anymore because I will not be able to complete everything anymore (one of the examples I mentioned before when complaining, back when I still had everything completed).

2 Weeks for such an important patch (story wise) with that much of achievements. I literally still had to start with half of the achievements This is really becoming a joke.

And besides that I am also simply angry, angry about all the lies.

3 weeks ago Colin was telling about how the story would be temporary and that story would make changes and that would be the new content that was permanent (after getting so many complains about temporary content). Then a few days later they come with there blog telling there will be time-gated crafting materials (= temporary content) then the politic patch gets released that already seems like more temporary content and then 2! weeks later they take that out again.

Just don;t say anything if you don’t keep your word. Now it simply feels like an insult.

3 weeks ago Colin talked about adding more permanent content, the average production time of each of the updates is about 4 months (don’t have the source at hand, sorry), so 3 weeks ago cuttorath politics must have been already wrapped up and getting ready to be delivered, and Queen’s Jubilee was probably in final testing and tweaking, we can’t realistically expect a change of direction inmediately after it was first announced, IMHO.

Plus, Colin already said in forums that more permanent content is indeed coming, that Queen’s Jubilee is the last of the temporary recurrent content that will come back from time to time (like halloweeen, wintersday, SAB, bazaar and so on) and that the first batch of more permanent content should hit in the next update in 2 weeks.

Cutthroat Politics only Two Weeks?!?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Actually usually the second part of a story is only 2 weeks, and this was also told when they announced Cutthroat Politics.

Since when and where?

Though it doesn’t specifically says that achievements will work until that date, where it says “Read detailed notes from our developers about what’s new in this release.”, in the notes it says “Zephyr Sanctum will be leaving when the Bazaar of the Four Winds ends on August 6”.

Also, all updates since the southsun one have followed the same pattern of a big one at the beggining of each month that lasts for the whole month, plus an update that moves the story forward and adds new things 2 weeks afterwards that lasts for 2 weeks (Secret of southsun – last stand at southsun, then dragonbash – sky pirates of tyria and now bazaar of the four winds – cutthroat politics)

They’re supposed to be drops from champions, but no idea which ones, as each champion type have a chance to drop loot based on its type (I’m guessing the rapier would be dropped either by pirate or aetherpirate champions… is there any in game? )

Gone after 2 weeks? What is the plan?

in Living World

The first talk about more permanent content was about 1 month ago, the time needed to develop a content update is about 4 months, so it’s unrealistic to expect them to talk about starting to do more permanent content and expecting it to happen couple of weeks afterwards.

BTW, theres an answer somewhere in the forums where Colin basically said that the Queen’s Pavillion will be the last of the recurring content that returns periodically (like halloween, winterday, bazaar, SAB…), and that having a portfolio or recurrent content frees developing time for more permanent content (it’s faster to just update an existing event than creating one from scratch), and that the first one of those should hit in the update that will come in 2 weeks. We’ll see, I guess.

Account Wallet duplicate feature of the bank?

Take this chance to teach him about budgeting and ownership of items.

Put a notebook next to the computer, tell him yo write down anytime he gets some bit of loot that goes into the wallet, and anytime he spends it and that he’s allowed to use only as much as he earns, unless you expresely allow him to, otherwise you get to take it all.

As for the money, well, make a 1 toon guild and deposit the money in the bank, tell him he’s not allowed to take any money from there unless he asks first, deposit all your money there on logout.

I agree that it’s unfortunate that this new feature inconveniences you and anyone else that shares their account with their kids (even if my son is still too young for that), but the game was designed from the ground up to be played by one person per account, more so than any other MMO I’ve played (since guilds and banks are per account and not per character), and this feature was one that had been requested over and over for a long time already, and to be honest, there’s no MMO that I know that allows character transfers, otherwise it would be like allowing to sell characters which is against the TOS in almost all online games. It’s just the fact of online games, we’re at a minority (I include myself because my son will soon be old enough to be in the same situation), and we just can’t expect for every feature, specially one requested by a huge majority, to be held against something that only affects to very few of us.

GW2 content designer loves Greatswords

I do agree that dagger skins need some love, but personally it all depends on opinion, I guess. This is the third update in a row (sovereign and champion, aetherized and jade) where for me the greatsword skin is the worst or one of the worse looking ones.

Give me any of these:

over these ones anytime (at least for me):

From dulfy:

Still a work in progress as more skins are found (no rapier yet). Some of them are the aetherblade skins we saw before, others are recolored and/or particled versions of existing weapons, others seem to be brand new skins (or that I hadn’t seen before at least)

EDIT: Rapier is there but has no name

What do you dont like about gw2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

locoman.1974

What I don’t like:

- Personal story basically the same after claw island. I still haven’t finished it, but advancing it only on my main, all my other alts stop as soon as they get to claw island. Personally I feel that some pieces (like Claw Island) should be the same for everyone, but there should be a lot more branching in the rest of it. It’s a big war effort, there should be more different things to do.

- No in-game LFG tool. I know of the website, but I like to play full screen, find it a little awkward to have to keep alt-tabbing or using the android one on my cell phone.

- Only one style of sPVP. Though the mini-games are getting a little better in this regard, I’d like to see an aspect arena style CTF maps added to sPvP, for example.

- PvP balancing affecting PvE. I’d think it would be much easier to balance if they separated how skills worked in sPvP and PvE.

If you want to have them soulbound, just keep track of whichever alt gets the tokens (excel, notebook, whatever) and be sure to just spend as many tokens as that alk earnt on armor for him, solved without inconveniencing those (like me) who prefer it account bound.

I’d pay for a giant butter knife skin for 600 gems for my warrior..

That said, it’s an exclusive skin for roughly 15g, personally doesn’t look that expensive to me, but of course, your mileage may vary. I don’t plan on getting one, though… my mesmer already has a cool mask (still rocking the starter clown one) and doesn’t fit my other chars..

Shouldn’t it be searchable on the TP if that’s the case?

Not if it’s account bound, for example (which I have no idea if it is), or if none has dropped yet (the patch is only a couple hours live), or if they have dropped but whoever got them decided to keep it instead.

Jubilee - Sovereign weapon

locoman.1974

Anyone know the name of that set ? :0

We know it drops from champions, but probably not a full set but individual weapons with their own designs, since we do know the rapier will also drop from champions.

As for the sovereign weapons, here’s my take on them, subject to change when I get back home and get a chance to actually look at them in-game:

Like: Sword – hammer – longbow – shortbow – Shield

Dislike: Greatsword – Axe – Pistol – Rifle – Dagger

Indiferent: Warhorn – Focus – Torch – Scepter – Staff

Probably won’t get my kitten off trying to get one, though, because the only ones that I think might fit the look of my characters might be the shield, but both characters I have at 80 that can use shields already have ones I like better (guild wall for my guardian, jade shield for warrior).

Lets discuss special FX on skins...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For me depends more on whether they fit the character or not.

On my guardian I like the glowing gauntlets, since I do feel they fit him (also using the zephyrite wind helm on it). I use the guild weapons on him, though, which don’t have any glowy bit, because they fit his color scheme and general feel.

I also use the radiant gauntlets on my mesmer, buy again only because they fit him. On him I use the light heritage skins for armor, which are long sleeved and completely cover the glowing forearm sections (which woudln’t fit him at ALL), and make it look just like he had glowing gloves, which fit a mesmer ok. Also, since he’s a mesmer I try to make his weapons flamboyant enough, so he mainly uses the zephir weapons skins and the princess wand skin on his scepter.

On my warrior, on the other hand, I’m going with a “dragon warrior” look on him (mainly to fit the jade longbow and shield), dragon helmet and no glowy bits at all. Still a heavy work in progress, got him the CoF boots (because they look like claws) and probably will get the pants as well, but avoiding any of the pieces with flames on them. He’s mostly going to be glow free for the time being.
