When you create a sylvari, he’s basically born into the world unlike other races that are already adults with their whole lives behind them, so I really felt would be adecuate as the race of my first character since I’d also be new to the world and discovering everything.

Sorry, what does “Zerg” mean?

Could you give some examples of how to make things more challenging?

Zerg is basically a very large group of people, and used as a verb, it could be a boss or monster that is defeated by a large group of people attacking it with no other strategy involved. It comes from Starcraft, where one of the races (the Zerg) could produce lots of units very fast, so one strategy when playing them is to make very large quantities of units and rushing the enemy with them early in the match before he could create proper defenses (zergling rush).

This game needs PvP Arena

in Suggestions

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

I agree on two things. Arenas would be a nice thing to have (I wouldn’t use them but I know people that would), and it would be cool if they rewarded you with titles that could be used in PvE and WvW… but no actual gear. However I’d agree with gear skin rewards that could be used on WvW (and maybe even in PvE) but that would work like the HoM rewards, meaning, you buy the gear rewards and to use them you must first double click on them, and on the gear you’re wearing to apply the looks but without changing anything about its stats.

That way the people that truly stand out in arenas can have something to display their kittenness (to call it some way), but without it becoming just another grind to get epixx gear like the arenas became in WoW (at least back when I played).

Save Yourselves

I’m still low level (32) so thinking of which skills to take next, and was wondering one thing about Save Yourselves. The description says “Draw conditions from nearby allies to yourself. Gain multiple boons for a short duration.”, does that mean that after using it, you suffer from the conditions you took from allies + the boons the skill gives you or just the boons?. Thinking because if it’s the first one then it would be nice to also take Contemplation of Purity that converts conditions into boons for condition heavy fights.

I’d like to have centaurs as a playable race in the future (though my favorite for future playable race is still the Tengu). After all, we had Asura, Charr and Norn heroes in GW1 (in Eye of the North) and they ended up being playable races in GW2… why not centaurs? we had a centaur hero in Nightfall..

Where Can I Find A More Active World?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

Seems most guilds these days prefer to use voice chat instead of in-game chat, which I personally don’t really like, mainly because I’m much more difficult to understand in voice because of my accent, and also because I usually play late at night (after the baby is sleeping) with my wife either watching TV or sleeping in the same room, so voice chat isn’t really an option.

That said, the guild I’m in right now does have some active in-game chat members, not to mention several activities like dungeon nights, crafting swaps on weekends, a organized WvW groups and things like that, so there are good guilds out there, just keep looking… one big advantage of this game is that you can check other guilds without leaving your first one..

We get it, queue times are too long

in WvW

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

I do agree with it being a big problem… but TBH can’t really think of how could they solve it.

As someone mentioned it isn’t as simple as increasing cap on each map, since people are already having troubles with performance with the way they are right now, increading caps would just mean increasing those problems as well.

Implementing overflow for WvW wouldn’t work either, since it would just add a whole lot of different problems. To name a few… how would you deal with structures captured in overflow? do they give points as well? what happens to those structures (and points) during off peak hours, does the overflow just dissapears, or stays there empty providing points but with structures unable to be captured (since not enough people could go to overflow)? What would prevent an organized server with just flooding WvW with people (even if they’re AFK) just so an overflow is created allowing them to send a team to capture everything without opposition?.

[HELP]About world transfer

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

When you first open the game, you pick your home server, every character you create will be on that home server. For the time being transfers are free, when things stabilize a bit with the servers they’ll cost about $20 (IIRC) worth of gems, and will have a cooldown of one week, plus you won’t be able to participate on the current round of WvW matches if you transfer a server, or get your server’s WvW bonuses (this is to prevent someone taking advantage of server transfers to go from a losing to a winning server in WvW).

Later (again, when things stabilize) they plan on adding a feature called “guesting” meaning that if your friends are in a different server you’ll be able to “guest” in their servers and play with them on the PvE side of the game, but you’ll still represent your home server in WvW.

I like the hammer for general play, but mostly because I love wacking mobs with banish and send them flying backwards, plus I like the CC utilities, but I think the greatsword is better for actual damage. I normally use the the ability “Judge’s Intervention” (teleports you to target and burst flames around you that burns nearby enemies) as a range closer.

Manually joining overflow to play with friends from another server?

in Players Helping Players

locoman.1974

For the time being, there’s no way to do it. In time, they plan to introduce the “guesting” feature that will let you do that, but I guess they’re waiting to get some other things fixed before that:

“In time, we’ll also introduce free “guesting,” which will allow players to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature will be free, but guest players will not be able to enter World vs. World, and the Power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters.”

Is it ilegal to sell my "character name" ?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

No idea whether it would be allowed or not… but don’t think it would be practical either. If someone is interested into buying a name, it means it’s a popular… and you have no control over when a name becomes available after you delete your character (it’s never right away), so if you advertise it publicly means that everyone will know you’re deleting that char and that name will become available, so they’ll be hammering the character creator to try to get the name before whoever bought it (either because they really want the name or just to grief you/whoever bought it)… and if they do, well, there’s nothing neither he nor you could do.

What’s the point of a profanity filter then if you get banned for swearing? I can understand the issue of circumventing the filter, but the be outright banned for swearing doesn’t make any sense when there is a filter in place.

Well, at least if the reddit thread is an indication, people weren’t really banned for saying things like “kitten!!! that boss killed me!!!” (yes, I did type kitten, replace it with the other word.. ), but instead for saying things like “ARE YOU KITTENING KITTEN!!!! KITTEN YOU KITTEN ALL YOUR FAMILY HOPE YOU DIE IN A FIRE!!!!111ONEONEONEELEVEN!!!”

How do runes work?

It’s like the set bonuses in other games. Basically, if a rune has 2 extra stats (other than the regular one), with one of the grayed out, it means that you put a rune in a piece of equipment, you’ll get the first one, if you put a second rune of the same type on another piece of gear, you’ll also get the second one.

considering what they did with other people, if you get him to post here and ask why he’s banned, I’m sure they will explain

He just got unbanned today (without an explanation as to why he was banned to begin with lol) but mostly we just want to see if there’s anything extra we need to be doing to avoid anything like this in the future.

Do we need to monitor ourselves in guild/party/whisper if we’re all comfortable with eachother’s vocabulary?

If he really doesn’t know why he was banned I’d really suggest him to post in one of the threads about it (or in the reddit thread) so that it can be looked into and answered for why exactly he was banned. I don’t really know you or your friend, so I can’t really say anything about whether it was justified or not (it strikes me odd that it was 9 days when usually people got 3), but I tend to be a little sceptic after so many posts on the reddit thread of people claiming they’ve never said anything wrong and the response was something that justified the banning said on public chat.

That said, I’d repeat that it would be the best to try to use one of those to find out why he was banned (maybe it wasn’t bad words but a character name, or he used an exploit without knowing or something like that), so you don’t end up repeating it in the future.

Thing is, anytime I come to the forums, it defaults to the spanish version, so I just click on the “en” on the top right corner of the page, no big deal… but when I go to login, it goes back to the spanish version, same if I go to the account section and back to the forums. Anytime to make it actually stay on the language I choose at first without having to change it all the time?

Character Creation Questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

That helped a little…but there’s a lot of details I can’t find.

Little things like:

Is one race better at being an Elementalist than another?

Should I consider one personality-oriented answer over another because of a future quest line of ability?

I’ve been reading through as much as possible on the GW2 Wiki…but some of it still leaves me with questions.

Thanks!

All races are exactly the same when it comes to professions, there’s no advantage of picking one over the other. Also, the personality oriented answers determine which quest chain you’d get at first, but doesn’t change which abilities (or AFAIK rewards) you can get.

The difference between different races (other than starting area and cosmetics) are the racial skills:

WoW player looking for advice

in Players Helping Players

locoman.1974

I’ll second both sugestions.

The closest in spirit to those two classes you mentioned would be a Norn Guardian, I’d think. Guardian is a little bit like a paladin in general, while the Norn shares a lot with WoW druids in the sense of comuning with animal spirits, and even get some limited shapeshifting as their racial elites.

The elementalist would also be close, not to the style, but to the idea of being able to fill multiple roles quickly (don’t compare them with WoW mages). Most classes can do that in this game, but the elementalist excels by being able to switch elemental attunement on the fly.

Imagine a skritt mode that changes random words to make you sound dumber in chat depending on how many skritt are around (SPOILER SkrittSkritt have very fast ultrasound communication that basically exchanges information so fast that they can act as a single intelligent entity... so basically a single skritt is very dumb... but a larger group of skritt can be very smart).

Playing in Overflow What does it matter

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: locoman.1974

locoman.1974

Basically, if you stay on overflow you can play with people from other servers (that happen to be on the same overflow), while on regular server you get to play with people from your own server only, which you might want if you have friends there or guild. Another difference is that you can’t queue for WvW from overflow, you’d have to go to the heart of the mists or a non overflow area for that, and I think the queue stops if you go to an overflow (not sure about that last one, though)

That said, in tonight’s patch they’re adding an option to remain in overflow and not get the “you can go to regular server now” message again.

How do I get HoM stone?

Seems to be a problem with accounts created on the first day or something like that. The first character I created never got his HoM stone and had to go to Lion’s Arch to get it, but every other character I created the following days had it on their inventory from the beggining.

Each of the cities have a portal to Lion’s Arch, if you can’t find it, another way to get there is to go to the heart of the mists (from the PvP tab of your hero panel H) and there’s a portal there that will take you to Lion’s Arch (if it’s your first time there you’ll have to do 3 quick heart quests to reach them, can be done in under 10 minutes). This also works if you want to go there from anywhere in the world and don’t want to spend money using a waypoint..

1) In Lion’s Arch, head northwest into Hooligan’s Route.
2) At the Undermarket Point of Interest, find the charr karma merchant named Scornheart.
3) View Scornheart’s offerings and, on the second panel, select the Hall of Monuments Portal Stone. The stone is available at no cost.
4) Use the Portal Stone to access the ruins of the Hall of Monuments.
