Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Not true for me at all. I have had no problem gearing all 14 of my level 80’s in full exotic/ascended, while spending minimal (though not zero) time in PvE. I have full map completion on only 1 character for a reason. PvE bores me to tears, and I’ve “been there, done that”. Why is it that people seem to think WvW players need to keep justifying their preference?
But you would still have to spend much more time in WvW in order to get to the same level of gear as PvE. Ergo a PvE-player is having a rather large advantage over a WvW-only player.
It is also worth pointing out that I am mainly WvW:ing myself.
One could point out that technically we have not progressed at all in the new system.
We have progressed in the old system, which is getting removed with the coming patch and then replaced with a new system, which we now how to progress through.
The old progress is “lost” simply because the old system is being scrapped.
Seriously? This is the special announcement? Well . . . okay. . . .
They never mentioned any special announcement.
They mentioned that there would be something extra cool. Which both the Lion’s Arch rebuild and the WvW changes could be seen as.
The only people that have mentioned special announcements are the ones that have hyped it up for themselves and others. ArenaNet on the other hand have never said it.
My problem is with the loss of already-earned progress. Any requirements for unlocking new progression should apply to all equally, and A-net can and should determine those requirements. I do not want special treatment for any player, regardless of how they got their character to the fully-unlocked state. I’d also prefer that no one be able come into WvW with all elite skills already unlocked through PvE, while WvW players need to spend many hours in PvE for the same privilege.
Why is that suddenly such an issue when it have basically been more or less the same since release.
Someone that have played PvE can come into WvW with full exotic/ascended gear while those that only play WvW would spend insane amount of time in WvW or do PvE in order to unlock it.

What does the WvW changes have to do with HoT?
The fact that it is launching with HoT?
tbh i’m really disappointed, really really. i don’t play wvw and i dont care about the stuff that they announced today either, i won’t say that they shouldn’t tell us, because there are people that enjoy WvW but all this is, is a “small text” about some cost changes and upgrade changes with tons of unnecessary phrases to get a big enough blog.
and there i was expecting revenant part 2, but hey it’s anet after all.
Just like how you don’t care about this people that only play WvW don’t care about new maps or masteries or lore.
Not every piece of information will be for everyone.
It is not a small thing. The changes are very big for WvW.
And once again: This is what was actually said:
“Next week we have something extra cool to reveal”.
There were never any talks from ArenaNet about a special surprise, it is something made up and hyped by the forums and reddit.
It is also worth pointing out that the actual statement about this week was: “Next week we have something extra cool to reveal”. There were never talk about something special. There were talks about something cool. Which both Lion’s Arch and the complete change of a major part of WvW would classify as.

She NEVER said special.
The exact statement she made was: “Next week we have something extra cool to reveal”.
People always complain about ArenaNet hyping up stuff, but they always use statements that ArenaNet themselves have never actually used to described the upcoming things.
In 99,9% of the cases it is people on the forums and on reddit that overhype stuff and then they blame ArenaNet for it.
I think people are simply overhyping what Rubi actually said.
She said: “Next week we have something extra cool to reveal”.
People keep throwing around that she said that it would be something super-special and such. And yet those words were never uttered by Rubi, they were created by people hyping up what was actually said (just like more or less every single time).
And yes, the rebuilding of Lion’s Arch and the more or less complete overhaul of a major part of WvW is something extra cool.
So big and special means a small piece of information about something already talked about…?
I’m going back to bed.
Oh?
I must have missed the earlier blog that told us about the changes to how WvW works, care to link them?
I also don’t think they have ever talked about rebuilding Lion’s Arch except the fact that it will be rebuilt at some point.

I’m just tired of ANet’s imaginary hype. If there is nothing “big” for the following week, then be up front with us. But Rubi said there was something really special. Stop trying to hype something that isn’t there. We are all tired of it, stop treating us like kids.
But it is big.
The rebuilt Lion’s Arch is special stuff.
And the WvW changes are big, no matter how much you hate it.
Why should they stop treating people like kinds when people clearly behave like kids?

We have known since the week of the Chronomancer reveal that there would only be three specialization weeks in the first set. This is not something that we learned last Friday.
Just because YOU don’t care about WvW doesn’t mean that no one else does. The same line could be added to basically every single week:
“Meh, only boring [insert subject here]”.
The changes are big in terms of WvW, and WvW is one of the three main game modes.
It didn’t displace a specialization reveal. The plan was always (or at least since the week of the Chronomancer reveal) to only have three weeks of Specialization in the first run with something else coming after that.
Well if there was a good place to mention new abilities being added, you would think it would be in the same article where they discussed removing a few and removing half the cost of current abilities.
Assuming that they were done.
It would however be a rather bad place to mention them if they are not done and and up not working by the time HoT is released, considering how people here take every single word as set in stone promises.
Why are we assuming that there won’t be new abilities added?
So if you are on a server without a night crew look forward to waking up to your bl being fully upgraded by an enemy server…. Yay!
You mean more or less exactly like it is now?
The blog even say that the upgrade times will still be about the same as the current ones, so if you would have that problem after the update, you would already have them now.
And here we have a great way of showing that people that complain about the lack of information actually only care about information that THEY are interested in.
This is big information, even if you personally don’t care about it.
In the OP it also seems rather clear that op don’t actually play WvW.
It is worth pointing out that even with flash-drives the delivered version would still need quite a bit of downloads to be ready. Simply due to the fact that things happen between the shipping to the retailers and the actual release.
Looking at history there are different parts of the beta.
There is the closed beta. The ones that the portal gave access to.
Then there is the Beta Weekend Event. The ones that prepurchase give access to.
This was done before release as well.
I prepurchased as soon as it was possible, and yet I did not get access to all the closed beta tests.
It is also worth pointing out doesn’t necessarily mean that it will happen right now (or at all in some cases). Until it is officially announced it is not a thing.
We already know that there will be no Specialization reveal this week, so why would they give us a teaser for it?
Looks like “Nothing, but will roll some content to the live game” was the most correct answer (although new map changes isn’t content at all). ~whee
The week is far from over.
And to be fair even if it was Friday today, it will still be a weird comment by you, since your thread was about what the next HoT reveal was. The LA-thingy is not a HoT-reveal, therefore it is not the next HoT-reveal
We would all want more of them – why they haven’t brought back many awesome skins that were also fan favorites is beyond me. It’s like they don’t want to make money.
Or maybe they got tired of putting in time and effort on something that people would just call lazy and money-grabbing?
We don’t have a time machine… Idk why people keep bringing this non-answer up…
Because it shows a rather good point: Stuff will go from challenging to easy when people have learned how to do them.
No matter what it is people would be disappointed.
Time will tell if this was the special thing that they talked about but it is worth pointing out that we have had more or less weekly posts asking about when Lion’s Arch will be rebuilt, so it is clearly something people want.
$50 or so apparently… Honestly, that makes me a bit hesitant.
There is nothing in the files that name a price.
The price is based on sites that have no clue about release date or release price.
well that’s 4 weeks more content than GW2 has received in the last 3 months. Anet is still in a pretty good position, it has only been 2.5 months since the announcement. A major feature patch in the next 2-4 weeks would put them on track. But saying we won’t get ANY content before release would be very bad for Anet imo.
Except for the fact that those 4 updates were between now and 1,5 years ago.
While GW2 got their last update about 4 months ago. That is over a year in difference.
A feature patch will not include content though. It will include features. And we KNOW that there will be at least one feature patch between now and the release of the expansion, since we know that the specialization system is coming before, we also know that the Personal Story fixes should be coming before as well.
I don’t really know where you checked, but in 2013, LotRO had a total two big patches, one in March and one in May, with the Expansion launching in November.
Since then there have been a total of 4 “major” patches, all of which included so little content that it was completble in less than a week of rather casual playing.
Maybe cuz no one wants to believe something so horrific could be real.
How is it horrific?
Would people really prefer to just rush through all the Specializations and then potentially go 3 months before release?
Unfortunately Anet is struggling for money and players. China was a massive flop and most people have moved on from GW2. They simply don’t have the money or resources to provide content for the game anymore. They have all their eggs in the expansion basket.
Or at least that is the only reasonable explanation I can think of. Most MMO’s release major content updates every 2-3 months in ADDITION to releasing expansions… Not sure what Anet’s problem is…
Please, show us all these MMO’s that release major content updates every 2-3 months, I must have missed all of them.
It’s realistic for Anet to release content 3x slower than every other AAA MMO currently on the market? Seems like it is more realistic to expect a feature patch every 3 months in addition to an expansion every 2 years just like other MMO’s do…
In fact I don’t know of a single MMO other than GW2 that completely stopped all content to release an expansion 9 months later.
Really? 3x slower?
How many releases did WoW how in the year before the latest expansion?
How many releases have LotRO had since their last expansion?
I’m also realistic.
If anet doesn’t release something soon I’m going to lose what little interest I currently have in the game, only having pure gold sinks left achievement wise/skin wins or WvW grind wise…nty
and then when I get hooked on f2pMMO number 6 then realistically I might not come back to the game, I realistically might decide I don’t want to spend $$ on a game that is just going to release an Xpac and then no update for another 6 months.
I just explained why people were “happy” with only getting HoT information. And we are happy because we know that it is not realistic for a company as ArenaNet to develop both and expansion and other content at the same time.
You are free to take a break whenever you want. That is the beauty with B2P. You don’t have to play in order to get your monies worth out of the sub. You can move away and do something else and then come back in a few months.
I am sure there are some people that will just leave forever (due to their unrealistic expectations) but it is rather likely that the majority will still be back when HoT is released.
I also seem to recall that the Living Story will pick up again after the expansion, so we will probably get updates quite frequently for a while after launch as well.
Rumors have been flying around for quite some time that only 3 were going to be revealed and who knows when they’ll start it up again. Hoping it’s not true cuz it’s pretty unfair to the classes who have no idea what their weapon is and can’t enjoy the ability to buy skinz in advance while their discounted.
Not really sure how that is much of a rumor when they outright stated it last week that there would be no specialization reveal this week. (I also seem to recall an article for the Chronomancer reveal saying that we will get the first three the coming weeks).
I don’t understand why people are happy enough to settle with HoT news as “content”
That seems to be Anets motto right now. We’ll give them info on HoT and that’ll keep them busy watching a 120s video for 2 weeks. np.
Because some people are realistic?
Always assume there won’t be until we hear otherwise.
It is unlikely that we will get any content at all before HoT.
We know that there are a bunch of Features coming though. But I doubt they are ready at this time.
thanks
wierd then if only 2 class will get it
i saw revenant also got itso what’s the point?
There are still mobs and NPCs that could get and use it.
That’s not hard it is just tedious. People want challenging mechanics that require organization, teamwork and quick thinking.
And how long will that stay challenging?
A week?
A month?
All in all it will take way more time to develop it than it will take for the players to no longer find it challenging.
Without something that is constantly changing randomly people will learn how to do it, and it will no longer be challenging. Simple as that.
Do people honestly think that they will not have a single closed beta until about two months (at the earliest) from now?
I am not sure how much experience you have of closed betas, but it is very unusual for them to all just drop every single piece of content coming with an update and let people do whatever they want across all that. Usually closed betas focus on CERTAIN PARTS of the content coming.
Therefore it is both very likely and very easy to give us closed betas without having announced all Elite Specializations.
Simply don’t have the unannounced ones in said closed beta.
Yes you did miss them. Humans obviously manufactured them.
Where?
It seems much more likely that the massive factories in the Charr-lands would be used.
The Airships are based on Charr technology actually.
Where do humans have all these manufacturing facilities? I must have missed them.
What I fear is that it is: “Yay! Closed Beta next week.” And nothing more.
But what would a ReadyUp have to say about Closed Beta? “Yay, Closed beta!” ?
I doubt they are gonna have a closed beta before releasing all the professon specializations. They said no NDA (could change though), so unless they arent in the game yet, those not revealed would be revealed very quickly
It is very unlikely that the first closed betas will have the whole expansion in them. They are most likely focused on specific parts rather than the expansion as a whole.
If the humans attack there’s a lot of speculation that could be had – what if they use asura gates?
What if they use airships. The norn don’t have those.
Why would Humans have asura gates and airships but Norn wouldn’t?
None of them are human inventions after all.
Why do people always overstate the difficulty of GW1?
The vast majority of the game can be more or less AFK:ed.
There is of course also the part about everything becoming easy after a while when people have learned how to do it.
I’m pretty sure this is only true of the Heart of Maguuma mastery lines. I think the core PvE masteries will be given to everyone, much like the core specializations, whether they buy HoT or not. I could have misunderstood that though.
According to the Mastery blog post you need to have HoT in order to get access to Mastery Lines as seen here:
The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns.
Instead of living story they would be better off adding more dynamic events. Make them more detailed and longer chains.
You are aware that they have added plenty of dynamic events since release, right?
If that held any truth, and humans were weaker than other races based on size, then they would have not conquered Tyria, let alone the Charr. Heck, if they were like real life, medieval humans, they would have been wiped out a long time ago.
And when did they conquer Tyria?
As far as I am aware they have never conquered the Charr Homelands for one.
It is also worth pointing out that they had the help of their gods at the time of those big conquests. More or less as soon as the god left the humans got pushed back.
Isn’t it rather funny that people keep claiming that the real world military are allowed to use everything in their kitten nal (nuclear weapons seems to be the most common argument for a win) and yet Tyrians are not allowed to use their main weapon, magic?
All fall damage traits removed. Falling damage reduction moved to a Mastery Line (PvE) and a WvW Mastery Line (WvW). It allows incremental improvements in damage reduction, ending in a removal of self-knockdown time and a special effect when you take falling damage.
This frees up slots for more compelling choices.
The problem with this is the fact that people that don’t buy HoT will not have access to Masteries.
