Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
People keep claiming that it has no relevance to the profession or theme.
Guardians is there to protect the people. That is their main theme.
Hunters main usage (outside of gathering food) is to hunt down and kill dangerous creatures that threatens the people. Thus protecting the people. The main threats at this point is the Dragons, thus Dragonhunter both makes sense and fits into the theme of the Guardian.
So why isn’t Dragonhunter a Ranger specialisation? It seems far more in line thematically with the base profession. Or could it be that Rangers already have longbows, and they actually designed Dragonhunter starting from the weapon and not starting from the overall theme (like time-magic with the Chronomancer) they’re going for?
Because Rangers already have the ranged and traps option.
Specializations as a whole seems to be built around what the base class currently lacks. In the case of Chronomancers it was wells and the ability to give boons in a good way.
In the case of the Dragonhunter it was range and control.
Dragonhunter theme does work for a Guardian.
It’s main purpose is to protect the people. Hunters usage (other than gathering food) is to hunt dangerous creatures that threatens the people. Thus the hunter specialization works quite well with the Guardian theme.
I too would like to support the name change to this.
I mean really? Every one is a Dragon Hunter in GW2……..
Everyone is also a warrior, and yet no one seems to have any issues whatsoever with having Warrior as a class-name.
Hunt.
Exactly. Often using bows and traps.
Change the name please. A profession name should give people an idea of how it works. Ranger use bow, Chorno use time, Thief use dagger etc.
Dragon Hunter tells you nothing. . . It does not give you the impression that it is a backline support at all.
What does a hunter do?
Einherjar then?
Doesn’t really fit at all. Einherjar would be more along the lines of and advanced Warrior than a Guardian.
What profession in GW2 ISN’T a dragon hunter?
What profession in GW2 isn’t a warrior?
And as have already been pointed out: Valkyrie’s are all female.
Why does it matter?
The number of portal that drops is completely irrelevant. They are just a “physical” item in the game. What matters is the number of accounts flagged for beta access. Someone getting multiple portals doesn’t “steal” slots.
Long bow for a Guardian. This proves the lack of direction and focus of the anet devs. I have never seen a game go so sour so quickly. hot is the death knell of gw2. if you want backline support then give it to a backline character. why confuse the guardian? am i frontline or backline? So now you’ll have 10 frontline guards and 10 backline guards, why don’t we all just play guards? keep waffling on anet.
Why give backline stuff to a character that already have access to it? The whole point of the Elite Specializations is to give characters access to playing styles they didn’t have before.
You also seem to completely ignore the fact that people have been asking for a ranged style for Guardians since more or less release.
^ They do have a live-stream tomorrow showing it, which will probably give us a bit more details.
The concern people, myself included have with them is that they potentially make the base classes inferior. Not to mention we have no idea how long it will be before we see new specializations. I wouldn’t be suprised if we don’t see new ones for a good 6 months to a year after hot releases.
But based on what we have seen none of the announced elite specializations seems to make the base classes inferior, seeing as they don’t focus on the same thing.
The specializations add things that the base class could not do before. That doesn’t automatically make it superior seeing as you still lose out on a whole trait-line in order to use the Elite Specialization.
As someone who mains a Guard (two of them actually), gotta say I’m pretty underwhelmed at this. I may have to retire Guardian as my main. I have zero interest in traps. If I wanted to place traps I would play a ranger or thief type character as that would be appropriate. But traps as main utility for a plate wearing holy warrior? What?
Sucks that the class I love most will have a specialization making it basically a class I love least. If they were looking to do a complete 180 on the class, they certainly succeeded.
You are aware that you are in no way or form required to use the Elite Specialization, right? You can still keep playing the Guardian as it is now.
I would guess we will get one or two weeks with other info (Guild Halls, Group stuff) and then the rest after that.
Do people really think that they would build a spec around something if they do not have plans to fix those supposed issues before/at the same time as the spec is release?
So, correct me if I’m wrong, haven’t played the game for quite some time, but as far as I can remember, CC, traps, stuns and effects alike weren’t quite useful in PvE, meaning, that said, doesn’t it mean this specialization (now I’m not implying I know all the effects of the skills shown in the trailer) that the new Bow is practically useless in PvE, which means the class will play exactly like it did before the specialization?
That is of course assuming that PvE will look exactly the same in HoT as it currently does.
It is rather unlikely that they would create a completely new playing style for a profession if it would end up being completely useless.
At the end of the day, what this spec has to do is provide something different that other classes don’t do better. If it’s just ranged dps with some AoE, then it better offer something other than what Power Wells Necros already give.
That is not what the Elite specializations are supposed to do however.
They are not supposed to be superior to the base classes, they are simply supposed to add something that the base-class didn’t have before.
The damage was already done, there’s no changing that, I’ll agree. My questioning now is why should they continue to do it?
But why have no one complained about it before? I don’t think I have ever seen anyone complain about warrior being called warrior. So why is it suddenly and issue now?
Connections to GW1? Like Chronomancer?
Chronomancer was never a thing in-lore in GW1. It was planned for a campaign that never happened.
Then why use the name Warrior for a profession, and why use the name Dragonhunter now? Why use broad terms to describe these professions?
That is kind of my point.
Why start complaining about it now, when it have been the case for years already?
Yeah it is too early to say how this specialization will play out… It has interesting concepts/mechanics, we will have to wait for the livestream…
The one thing I’m a bit skeptical of…is the name. I mean Dragonhunter? They could’ve named it Warden or something. Sounds so cliché…
Why do people keep talking about the name being cliche?
How is Warrior, Ranger and Engineer any less cliche?
No. Warriors are warrior and mesmers are mesmers. Where in the game has “warrior” been used as a blanket statement to call everyone?
This is a couple of definitions of warrior:
One who is engaged in or experienced in battle.
One who is engaged aggressively or energetically in an activity, cause, or conflict:
A person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier.
A person who has shown great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness, as in politics.
A person engaged in, experienced in, or devoted to war
That fits every single profession in the game.
Don’t get baited by lordkrall. Just calmly ignore and report.
Report for what?
In MMO lingo,
Warrior refers to a mostly melee or fully melee character that uses his combat experience and armor to rampage across the battlefield, in some MMORPG the “Warrior” class uses medium armour and fast strickes but this definitation usualy fits better the “Fighter”/Rogue/Barbarian.
And yet the Warrior in Guild Wars 2 is far from a mostly or fully melee character.
A warrior in itself however is very much something that every single class is.
Why specify Warrior as Warrior when every one of our characters are warriors?
Is there a reason not to pick the elite spec over a existing one? I mean it strait up buffs virtues, giving you a leap among other things and you do not lose the passive effects.
Only having access to two core-traitlines is a rather good reason for certain builds to not pick the elite.

Dragon hunter…. wow… NO please NO that does not fit at all with the game and epic naming of current classes….
Ah yes, Warrior, Ranger and Engineer are all such awesome and epic names of classes…
Until they say they no longer drops.
We are talking about the duration of the ban.
Number of reports effects nothing.
Number of punishments does effect duration.
So if i am in a 1000 players guild and i tell them all to report someone that poor guy will be hanged because he was reported by many?
Number of reports is irrelevant.
If you get reported by 1 person and you have broken the ToS, you will be punished.
If you get reported by 150 people and have not broken the ToS you will not be punished.
I don’t understand why we haven’t seen any news on this, hell EA has already announced the pre-order price and release dates for SW Battlefront 3 along with their pre-order goodies.
And EA will also go ahead and release the game at that date, no matter the state of it.
Enough of the rng, I am not playing games with rng. I am not in casino.
So.. what games do you play?
Yes, but I seem to remember reading that starting April 28th, beta portals would drop for a week… but now I cannot find that quote again.
It is in the release notes, and what it say is:
All events and creature drops in this area now have a small chance to drop a Portal to the Heart of Maguuma item that will qualify the player’s account for an upcoming Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ closed beta test. These drops will continue for a week or longer to collect a strong player base for the test.
Did you really need to create another thread?
There are two threads at the very top of this forum both in which you yourself have written earlier today.
I rather have it abused than play with 4v5.
And yet if one thinks more of the game as a whole rather than just selfish desires any way to abuse something is bad.
Ravenmoon: So, why don’t you find someone else and create a render from scratch in 6 weeks? Since apparently it is soooooo easy.
Because you are still disregarding the fact that maintaining multiple renderers takes money and resources. Something that could be rather hard for ArenaNet to justify.
Wouldn’t make much sense. The standard classes are what they are, it is unlikely that they would add a completely new trait-line to them at this point.
Would being stupid and falling for an obvious phising attempt be ground for a second rollback?
No.
There is a reason why there is a limit to one rollback per account. Suddenly allowing people multiple in certain situation is not a good idea.
But limiting the event only really effects people that are already playing the game. Marketing usually don’t target people already using a product. Seeing as, well, they are already using it.
But then again, this discussion is rather pointless, seeing as you have already decided that it is completely impossible that ArenaNet actually uses these events as real betas.
It would be a much better marketing event if they had 1 million players rather than 1000 however. Seeing as that would reach out to way more people with more people streaming and posting screenshots and youtube-videos and such.
^ Why make it so limited if it was a marketing event?
I find it awesome that this thread still stays alive.
Some how I fee that Anet just wants it to go away. My only questions is what will they not just open up SAB, since so many liked it?
Well for one there were plenty of people that disliked it as well, especially world 2.
It is also the matter of it simply not being a case of pushing a button and it will magically work.
But that means that you play it for the rewards rather than the content itself.
Guild Wars 2 have never been about that.
I don’t play for rewards. I play for fun. (And I mainly play WvW).
@lordkrall
I played it even more than 3 years to be accurate..bcs i played it in the first beta.
i wanted to write this..but i though people know the beta started 3 years ago …so i would look stupid^^
and yes i know i played every new area (everything from it) and i also know there is an expansion on the way….but that game is dead for 1,5 years for vetran player
That is not how it works..
If I played once during the head-start and then didn’t play for 1,5 years, I haven’t been playing for 1,5 years.
You have played the new areas and yet you claim that everything is super-easy and only focus on new players?
I have played the game more or less daily since head-start, and the game is far from dead for me. The last 1,5 years ago have added plenty of stuff for veteran players.
Quite impressive to have been playing a game for 3 years when it have only been out for about 2,5.
I am also questioning if you have tried the new areas or the new/updated world bosses. Since they are very much not easier than stuff at launch.
You are also missing the fact that there is an expansion coming that is basically only for veteran players (only contains max-level stuff as far as we know).
Something that could very easily be abused.
When they do add builds on Tuesdays, they often do so a little later in the day. Three hours from now and no build? Then it might be time for gloom from those who were hoping something would drop. Right now it’s still early in the usual build release window.
The last bunch of patches have actually been live by now.
But it is the wrong Tuesday. We had an update last week, we won’t have one until next Tuesday at the earliest.
So all stop playing till HOT ? what ya saying ty
Not really sure how you read that out of my post. I never in any way or form implied that people should stop playing.
There is plenty of stuff that you can do in-game between now and then after all.

That would basically mean hiring at the very least 10 more voice actors PER language, which will be a rather massive cost.
