How is RNG unfair? It is the ONLY fair system when it comes to selecting a limited amount of players.
And if you will never participate in RNG ever, you will basically never be able to play any game at all, since basically all of them involved RNG.
When are people going to accept the fact that there won’t be any major (or even minor) content patches before HoT launches?
We get this thread EVERY SINGLE WEEK, when will people accept that unless we hear something else, there won’t be anything big?
It’s been a little over a month since I last submitted my ticket for help with my GW1 account. Any help would be appreciated.
Are these tickets still being handled by Anet, or have they been outsourced with the rest of customer support as referenced in this vg247.com article?
Ticket 1414231
None of GW1 or GW2 support were effected by that, seeing as ArenaNet supplies their own support rather than using NCSofts (which is the ones being laid off).
GW1 issues always takes rather long time however, seeing as they have very little people working on that support and GW2 issues takes priority.
Because it was bought 3 years ago?
Giving people with extra money special benefits is rather usual in the real world, I don’t really see why they should add that into the digital one as well. Especially considering that the CE was very limited and even impossible to buy in multiple countries.
And yes, you need the base game. But why should only the CE get the special privilege?
It is also the thing that I pointed out in my post: Can the game differ between a DE and a CE account, seeing as both were identical as far as in-game stuff goes.
They probably can. They just choose not to. Just like how a master swordsman usually wouldn’t chose to use a bow.
Why?
It would have made sense if it were a Collectors Edition of HoT. But a collectors edition for the original game purchased almost three years ago should have nothing at all to do with access to HoT.
It is also worth pointing out that the Collectors Edition and the Deluxe edition probably looks identical as far as account-flags go, seeing as the in-game stuff gained from them are the same.
I didn’t go there in the first place, because I detest RNG in gaming.
Must have a hard time playing games at all then, seeing as more or less every single game ever released with any sort of loot (or damage-system) uses RNG.
they should have introduced a new race, that will be the biggest hype, alongside the new specializations maybe…
But why add a race just for the sake of adding a race?
the longer they delay announcing the price, the cheaper it better be. or else there will be uproar.
How does that even make sense?
Announcing it early (without a release date and not all features fully presented) would most likely create much more of an uproar than waiting with announcement until they have presented everything and have a release date.
But then again, on these forums there will be an uproar no matter what they do.
No more portals?
One week after Tuesday is Tuesday, not Monday.
Why bother when the Beta won’t be played in your timezone?
You are assuming that it will be available couple of hours at most.
That is rather unlikely. It is much more likely that it will be a couple of days.
It is most likely a real beta after all and not a stress-test as last time.
Because they have not found a good way to fix it yet.
I’ll go ahead and comment on this thread, as it seems to be the most recent of the HOM ones.
I’ll try to explain this without getting too technical, and some parts are probably going to have to be left out.
The bug that caused players to unlock achievements/skins/titles and achievement points was caused when the GW1 server that stores the HOM status talks to the GW2 server that controls new character creation. Basically it was sending bad data to the GW2 server, and unlocking achievements that should not have been unlocked.
This means that there were multiple problem points that need to be cleaned up. The first thing to be cleaned up was the bug that caused this to happen, and that was fixed within a few hours. However, the removal of the rewards is an entirely different problem.
We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed. Unfortunately, this came at a time where our resources are tapped to the max, so it’s taking longer than we would like to fix this.
Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited.
We are working on this, I assure you, and we will remove the rewards from players that should not have received them. I do not have a timeframe, as modifying accounts at this type of level is not something we would ever take lightly, and as long as we keep a majority of the entitlements locked there is less for us to clean up.
Maybe you zoned into a map where a big zerg have just left. Or maybe all other instances were full, but when you zoned in to the new map the zerg from one of the other versions left/disconnected and thus you had space in there.
There was some guy who supposedly has about 60 of them. It was pretty ridiculous.
He was also rather clearly lying.
ArenaNet does not want people to earn potentially 100 of dollars for being lucky
Tbh, day after day after day of Silverwastes and Dry Top farming with no portal to show for it has drained me of pretty much all enthusiasm for getting into the beta.
That said, I like the approach – it just needs tweaking. They should have made it 24 hrs (or even 48, to cut down on the inevitable qq) with a much higher drop rate for that 24 hr (or 48 hr) period. I think missing out wouldn’t hurt quite so much that way; as it is, I’m not even enjoying the content right now, I’m just grinding through it because there’s that stubborn part of me that won’t relinquish the slim hope that this time a portal will drop …
And yet with that low amount of time available people would rage like mad about being unable to even have a chance, due to being unable to play during those 24/48 hours.
The beta key drop was a player idea on the forum from someone who didn’t get.
no, rng is a crappy mechanic which bad games employ, not games that pride themselves on the forefront of gaming revolution
So… how should they give access to beta?
Joining a mailing list and hope for access is RNG as well after all.
As long as they do not give a guaranteed way to join the beta there will be RNG involved.
And having betas with very limited amount of slots can’t really have a guaranteed way.
Isolationist policies tend to end in the face of a major attack. Mark my words, the Tengu will receive their own “Pearl Harbor” in the form of a major Destroyer outbreak, and this will make them much more inclined to assist the other races.
Whether or not that results in playable Tengu is entirely dictated by whether or not Anet wants to work for it. But frankly, it would be a crime to not make this rich, long-standing race in Guild Wars lore playable.
You mean like the attack on their doorstep by Scarlet’s armies? If that didn’t make them join the fights I find it unlikely anything will.
I also don’t really see how “rich and long-standing” it have been in Guild Wars lore.
Back during Guild Wars 1 they were basically just another NPC with rather little lore tied to them. A bit more was added with the bonus mission pack but other than that there were little lore given.
And with which money should they develop the old game? It probably generates less money than it costs at the moment and have done for years.
I still don’t get why people that love Guild Wars 1 so much, simply don’t go and play Guild Wars 1 (I do, it is after all possible to play more than one game at a time). Another thing is that people always seems to forget all the flaws of the original game. It had (and still have) many issues, but for some reason those issues can easily be disregarded, while even the slightest issue in Guild Wars 2 is the worst thing ever.
How effective it is to farm in Dry Top since there are no chests upon event completion? Do you get by killing mobs along the event chain?
I keep getting chests for every single event I complete in Dry Top, if you do not I suggest you post a bug report.

The problem with being able to “gift” stuff like this is that it would basically be sold either for in-game gold or for a rather large amount of real money.
If support said they couldn’t help, posting here won’t change that.
Giving away (which is basically the case) gold via mail and not getting something in return is not ArenaNets problem.
Be glad you weren’t there at release, it was muuuuch “worse” back then.
Orr is supposed to be a group-zone. You are at the heart of the enemy’s stronghold, of course there will be a high threat-level.
Does anyone know at least why SAB never came back, and if it ever is? Google tells me the good old ’it’s not off the table’ comment about its re-release, but no reasons why it’s gone.
It has been confirmed in this thread that it is coming back.
And yet it is a grind is a great way to see if you are fit for a beta in the first place.
A beta is basically grinding the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again. If you don’t like that, you shouldn’t be in a closed beta in the first place.
I’m actually surprised that this was done considering the problems this game has with
RNG. I’d be surprised if anyone gets anything honestly.
Except for the fact that multiple people have gotten it you mean?
You also seems to ignore the fact that unless they guarantee access for everyone, every system to give access to a limited beta will be RNG.
Thus is your signature rather silly as well.
Signing up on a mailing list for beta access is RNG as well after all.
It is disabled due to a bug.
More information about the current status can be found here:

The only way it could be a static cost would be if it was only possible with real money purchases. And I doubt people would prefer that.
You also seem to disregard the fact that 1800 gems costs just as much today as it did back at release.
Basing costs on the gold to gem transfer should never happen.
GW1 is very much build around having the max number of people/npcs available for that mission. No matter how good you get you will be defeated most of the time seeing as the game is not supposed to be done on your own.
NCsoft undoubtedly takes part of the profits from ANet, but to say that all the revenue from the gem store goes to NCsoft is just pulling stuff out your bum.
No respectable publisher does that, period.
You are disregarding the fact that NCSoft is not merely a publisher for GW2. They are outright OWNING the ArenaNet and thus the game. Every single $ ArenaNet earns is money that is owned by NCSoft. NCSoft can then decide where they will put that money.
the problem is why are they still using a bad game mechanic like RNG
If it is such a bad mechanic, how come basically every single loot based game ever in the history of mankind have used and it keep using it?
And unless they simply invite every single one they will have to use some sort of RNG to select testers (unless they just outright sell access, but that is stupid for earlier beta tests).
this isn’t wow.
and ANet has always been good to their playerbase.
You brought up that they have earned money from the gem store and thus could have a lower price. I brought up the fact that WoW is earning way more money every single month and still have about that cost for expansions.
They are good, but they still need to earn money. They are a business, if they don’t earn enough money they will die. Simple as that.
It is also worth pointing out that it is fully possible to play the game without every paying anything other than the initial cost, which I would actually guess is what most people do.
That is the standard price for an AAA MMO expansion at release though. Even games which requires you to pay a subscription.
$39,99 – $59,99 seems like a likely price range for standard edition.
I believe that they will help you change it, if it gives out real-life information (such as name) if you feel uncomfortable with that.
Being able to do it for no reason whatsoever however, is a bad idea and would make it way too easy to simply troll people like mad and then just change name.
not talking about afk time…
Which is why I specifically wrote the running into walls part.
How do they decide who is AFK or not? The game kicks someone for inactivity if they do not move. But if they do move they appears as “online and active”.
where did u get info about what the next beta would be testing?
all I’ve seen so far is a post about the portals dropping for players to gain access to it, but nothing about what they intend on testing or anything saying they are only testing pve aspects.
Surely the new trait system would need testing soon if they plan on testing it as the system is to go live before hot release?

Excuse me for interrupting the showing-off, but interestingly there’s now a fan-made DX11 renderer for classic single-player RPG Gothic II.
Since this seems beyond ANet, perhaps we can motivate those modders to look into GW2 next? ^.^
… And back to posting hardware specs, or whatever else suits the compensation requirements.
Ah yes, lets compare an old and much less complex single player game to a modern MMO game.
Modders can’t really do much in this area without access to engine codes and such, which, understandably, ArenaNet do not supply.
I play almost every day, run Fractals with guildies at least 3 times a day. Also will usually do the daily and run Teq. I haven’t done any of that lately because of Silverwaste farm and I want to rip my eyes out. Why can’t they just do it on log time per week? people who actually stay and play for a while a day.
Because logging in and running into a wall while you got school/work/whatever does not prove that you are active? ^^
It is also worth pointing out that if you have issues with doing the same thing over and over and over again, a closed beta is not really the place for you anyway, since that is basically exactly what a closed beta is. Repeating the same content as many times as possible to find issues.
Choosing players for closed beta based on RNG? lol)
Over 10 hours in SW = 0 portals.
Anet-style, guys, yay \o/PS: A piece of advice to anet: always prefer experienced and loyal players to lucky noobs.
And how are they to decide who is “loyal and experienced”?
They should give beta keys to anybody that has supported the game since day 1. That makes at least as much sense as this nonsense.
So basically invite people that might not have played the game for over a year and most likely won’t play the beta?
It is always better to target the active parts of the player base for these kind of things.
The main issue is that no one knows exactly how big it will be. It is different for different people.
ArenaNet don’t ban accounts for being bought from certain places. They ban accounts for said places either stealing keys or doing a chargeback after they have sold the key.
G2A have been having plenty of issues like these lately.
If you want to be on the safe side, always buy directly from authorized retailers. (Or even better, directly from uy.guildwars2.com)
Only the Chinese market matters now. Sorry.
And yet the Chinese players are also excluded.
Good try though.
I hope so otherwise, they should hotfix it to do just that.
Why?
It is for a PvE beta event, why give access to it from something that is not PvE?
A hotfix also suggest something is wrong or not working as intended, which is clearly not the case here.
You didn’t play the original Guild Wars, did you? Guess what fueled Guild Wars: Prophecies while ArenaNet worked on the next campaign?
What fueled Prophecies? I would guess Linage II and their subscription income.
And why do you think they abandoned that model within 2 years? Not to mention the fact that they did add a cash shop (that only accepted real money) which included more or less power-buying and such, rather soon after release.
Well, I mean, this is the SAB thread.
It was its own thread before it got merged into this.
Oh, but the beta won’t last for months on end, so this is irrelevant. But thanks for the suggestion!
Of course not, but it might very well be up for a weekend or even a full week or two. And the amount of things to test will most likely be very limited initially and thus you would have to repeat the same thing over and over again.
That if you do not like the “grinding” for the beta key, don’t do it. And if you don’t like it in the first place, a closed beta is probably not the place for you, seeing as a closed beta is exactly that, doing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
