Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
The first public BETA was PvE.
I think it’s likely that the next one will include a larger area than the original.
There have not been any public PvE betas.
There have been a PvE Demo, a PvE Stress-test and a sPvP open beta.
Over 8+ hours farming for this so far. I get that it’s rejuvenating the very tired current “end-game” open world maps that we have, but not in a good way. Imagine the frustration and disappointment for those who will have spent dozens of hours grinding for this beta key, by the end of this event. Some more foresight would have been great before implementing an idea like this. It’s a lame space-filler for the current lack of content, and it requires potentially endless grinding on maps that many of us are sick of by now.
So.. don’t do it?
You are aware that the betas themselves are all about grinding the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again, right?
Of course. But that just means my statement is still correct. Being reported is not the same as being dropped.
Not everyone that reports it have had the drops and not everyone that had the drop have reported it. Simple as that.
Least we still have a chance. Only 4 portals have been found. The last player saying he found one turned out to be a fraud. Alas the 5th portal is still out there:)
It is far more than 5 portals that have been dropped.
Being reported != dropped.
@Ocosh – Mm, I get your point about how there’s cosmetic value in the racials. It just makes me sad to see that they can’t ever be truly viable. I’d definitely hate to see them removed, that’s for sure. I’d just like to see them brought up & made available to everyone. Although the Norn transformations would be a bit….odd on a non-norn character..
But if they were viable, it would basically force people to use certain races in order to be optimal. Something that goes completely against the core of the game.
I already paid 50 bucks plus tax for the game. Why am I still paying/grinding every time I want some decent/new/change. they are using a f2p model and still charging people.
And don’t give me non-esesential bullcrap. The whole thiing is non essential. Its a game you don’t need any of it.
However, I paid for it and I want that model of an experience out of it. That’s what people expect if they pay for a game.
You paid for access to the servers, nothing more.
You have access to every single thing currently available in the game (free if you convert gold to gems no less). Sure, you will have to work for most of it, but should you really have everything unlocked as soon as you login to the game the first time? What would the point be in playing in that case?
You are aware that looks is rather objective subjective, right?

We haven’t had any PvE beta yet.
It is quite likely that the upcoming beta will contain more than the Demo/stress test however.
Maybe they should have made it a 48 hour event and increased the drop rate. A week is a long time to farm something with a low drop rate.
I am sure people with work and such would love to only have a couple of hours to farm for it.
When it is a week at least you can spend a few hours every day.
i have no issue with the way they are controlling access to the beta. However, I wish they would provide full disclosure on what will be in the beta to everyone, even if its just a write up.
All a beta is is a small fraction of players running around, finding items/valuables, then going back to live and hoarding/selling based on the future market that only they know, and destroying the economy for the players that have no clue what to save, what to sell, etc…
You are aware that there is no NDA on the beta, right? So people can (and will) be streaming and writing about all the information they find.
Did they actually say a “full week of reveals”? I seem to recall it being more along the lines of one being focused per week.
I still don’t get why people think that a game should celebrate ANOTHER game’s anniversary.
But then again, to be fair they DID add the skins, that they also added in GW1, with todays patch.
It is not especially unreasonable. It is either that, or being unable to start up the game or miss stuff due to them being corrupted.
If you have not changed anything it should be fine. It won’t change the options on its own.
It sounds more like the second part of my original post then.
Files either fails to download or write correctly, which you can’t really do all that much about.
I was thinking more about the game client. If you have that set to anything other than English it will have to download specific files for the language you have selected.
You can teleport to a friend that is somewhere you haven’t been and thus don’t have WPs close-by.
Do you use English language settings?
It could also have issues downloading (or writing) certain files which requires it to download them again.
No.
Race should never in any way or form be “useful”. It just stay as fluff.
What is celebrated now is Guild Wars 1s 10th anniversary, not GW2s anniversary. Therefore no one will be getting any 3rd birthday presents for quite some time (in August at the earliest).
You are assuming that everyone would shout in map chat about getting a portal, that is highly unlikely.
There have been multiple report of drops on reddit, as soon as 1,5 hours after the update went live.
You are assuming they knew half a year ago every single engine change they had to do in order to get HoT to work. That is rather seldom the case.
The only thing they really could realistically have done would have been to plan HoT around a potential 10th anniversary celebration, and that would probably be one of the worst decision they had ever made.
Seems to be a rather weird issue.
It was fixed for most people after the first patch.
With the patch after that a bunch of other also had it fixed, and today some of my guildies got it fixed as well.
Two full rounds of Silverwastes with full maps and not a single person got one. Talk about a grind a la korean style.
You are assuming that every single player in the map would post about getting one in the map chat if they did. I don’t think even half the people would do that actually.

There have not been any beta before this.
There was a stress-test that used the already completed demo.
It is rather likely that the upcoming beta will include more stuff. Specifically the new core specialization and such seems like a safe bet at the very least.
Unless there are screenshots to back up the reports.
The mailing list was also RnG, but so is someone who hasn’t logged in for months logging in going to SW and getting a key, its almost like they did it this way to try and pull people back into the game…
Its not really a difficult answer for them, they will already know the ball park figure they want for a closed beta test, 2,000 , 5,000 , 20,000, don’t waste peoples time, I was farming SW before the announcement of beta access, and I don’t care either way, but im guessing people will feel cheated if Anet only want a small number of people and people waste a week chasing something that never existed,
This just screams Pre Cursor drop rate all over again, why can they not be straight up with us.
And there are screenshots on every one of those reports. So there is that.
But the fact that they even bother logging in (and thus downloading or at the very least updating the client) does show that there is an actual interest. Signing up for a mailing list takes a grand total of 5 seconds and require next to nothing. Downloading and actually playing the game on the other hand requires quite a bit.
Granted they would have has to update things like SAB or the Pavillion. But it’s not like the anniversary was sprung on them at the last minute. Unless people are saying the company was unaware all year that this year was the tenth, it doesn’t make sense to me that they couldn’t have done something to celebrate in this game. It’s the 10th year of the franchise and this game and it’s players are part of that too.
And yet the latest engine changes were probably rather recently (the latest we saw were the camera and such), which means that they would have to check it after that. Not to mention all the likely changes going in behind the scenes in preparation for HoT.
They could have opened the Pavilion, or SAB, or something. Fun events for which they already have everything created (and locked away for special times). Not really “wasting resources” if they are reusing content/coding from the past…
Except for the fact that they would still have to spend time and resources to make sure it would still work after all the work on the engine since they were last used.
Tried it for an hour. Nobody got one. Looks like they expect you to grind all week for the “chance” which is fairly lame, especially with the zerg around and everyone competing over targets.
And yet there are multiple reports on reddit already about people getting it. Less than two hours after release.
You are also assuming that every single user in the map would post in map chat if they got one.
Funny. People raged like mad that they were added to the BLC. Now ArenaNet apparently listened and removed them, and now that is wrong as well?
And if they added in a huge celebration people would rage about them “wasting resources” that should rather be put in fixing issues or working on the expansion.
Yes, it is cool that the series started 10 years ago, but is it really worth “wasting” time that is better spent elsewhere just to celebrate it?
So… signing up on a mailing list is less of an RNG?
At least with this system it guarantees that people that get invited are at least playing the game.
EDIT: Below – bah :P
(edited by lordkrall.7241)
Save em tbh , theyre getting switched to hero points
No they aren’t.
HoT is a max-level expansion.
Of course they want to focus the betas on max level people.
Anet don’t make money on people converting gold to gems. You will not be able to buy the expansion with gems.
Indirectly they do.
Someone must have paid for those gems and put them into the system.
Gems are not created out of thin air in the conversion.
Well, this is surely an amazing idea. We definitely need more RNG in the game so keep it coming. Make sure that it’s in some select regions only because herding people to certain areas has never kittened off the players before either.
So… how should they give beta access then?
Signing up to a list and hope for an invite is just as much RNG.
At least in this case it guarantees that the invited people actually actively play the game.
When is tommorow, tho? Ugh. It’s already 28 April here.
I would assume after the patch.
Which should be in about 17-18 hours.
Tomorrow is patch day. It is rather likely that it would start after that potential patch. And those patch notes will probably include information about how it will work.
Think there will be any content added at all between now and the surmised August release time?
Very unlikely that we will see any new content added at least.
Possible old content being brought back, but completely new stuff is unlikely.
It didn’t (unless it was from RMT and the mail was sent from the same organization in order to steal your account), they were simply guessing.
So why claim that it was an insult to the beta process when it wasn’t actually a beta test then?
Read the text at the bottom of the mail.
Also remove the link so that no one presses it accidentally.
It is a scam.
GMs will never send mails like these. If you are going to get suspended/banned they will not tell you before.
Just hope that this closed beta test is a true beta test becuase letting the players play the demo build that was tweaked (Anet admitted this) it in the last so called beta is an insult to the beta process!
I suppose we are ignoring the fact that it wasn’t a beta but rather a stress test?
Why it would be better to have them drop anywhere? Well because you don’t want a small subset of players to only do your testing, you want a wide variety of players. I Consider this move to be a bad business move to be honest.
Anet has this inane fear that not funneling players into specific content is bad, because that is eaxctly what they keep doing, funneling players into specific content.
All HoT areas will be max level. Therefore it makes sense to target people that are in max leveled areas when it comes to testing.
I’m guessing its possible that cap can be reached within the first 5 minutes. I’m sure that there wont be a message stating that mobs will no longer drop them to keep players in those 2 zones.
That depends on the numbers of “tickets” and how often they drop.
It is also rather likely that when it is confirmed that all tickets are out there will be some sort of message about it.

I was invited to the beta, but I can’t/couldn’t log in during the test time! Will I have another chance?
This invitation is for this Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns testing event only. This does not guarantee access to future events.
From where is that image? I can’t seem to find it.
Official Facebook and Twitter-account.

And yet signing up on a list can basically mean that someone that have not logged into the game for years (or ever for that matter) get access to a beta.
Requiring stuff from an actual in-game activity does mean that only people that at least have the game installed (and actually have an interest in it) will be invited to the beta.

One thing that wasn’t said on the blog is if there is a cap on how many players can receive this item.
Almost guaranteed that there will be a limit. Otherwise they could just have invited everyone.
How would a screenshot effect you knowing if something is being done or not?
The report tool have logs, they can read exactly what is written and by who.
But yes, something is being done. If people have broken the ToS they will get suspended.
