Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
What example given in this thread shows that norn, as a race have more pysical power than humans?
In game it is demonstrated objectively that norn do not have a racial advantage in physical power compared to humans.
This:
there is 1 area for Norn that you see how insane strong they are
1 female child ask her dad to kill a bug
she take that GS bigger then her and swing it like it was as light as a feather
when i saw that i think omg she is strong for her age
if a human child try that i think he cant even lift that GS
so that’s why i think the Norn are just very powerfull
but in the game all is balance
Yes, in the game, due to GAMEPLAY BALANCE, they are the same. That is quite irrelevant though, when there are examples in the LORE that shows us that they are stronger.
Or are you going to come claiming that an Asura would win a arm-wrestling match against a Norn as well?
It is simply supply and demand. There are simply not enough people that trade gems for gold in order to keep the price down.
ArenaNet shouldn’t artificially (directly) change that ratio.
Which one of those two has numbers to support a position?
In GW2 it is an objective fact that norn are no more physically powerful than humans. Feel free to pretend otherwise if you like.
Might I suggest you actually spend some time listening to what is said and watch what is shown in the game? In this very thread there is an in-game example that shows that Norn are stronger.
There is also examples from the official books.
The game says otherwise. The people who created the game decided that Norn were no more physically powerful than humans. People can imagine or pretend otherwise to their heart’s content, which does not change the quantifiable objective fact that Norn characters have no more physical power, racially, than do humans.
Gameplay != Lore.
“Praying” is a Christian view on faith, where as Norse was much more diverse. Animals where not considered gods, they where considered same as them, beasts born of nature. They would call on animal spirits to aid them, or use them in remembrance of the dead. Shamanism for example was the blend of the earth, man, and beast and that a Shaman could connect in the spirit world, since the belief was that all spirits where connected.
Sylvari are born of a tree, unleashed by a dragon, have a skin composed of bark, and only resemble the humanoid figure. So there is almost no connection there outside of looks which is far more unique when comparing Humans/Sylvari then Humans/Norn.
Skritt are evolved rats, Asura are evolved mice. While not in the literal sense, they seem to be modeled after them, and their cities are like mazes.
Most (if not all) religions pray. It is not something specific for Christianity.
I am rather aware on the Norse mythology, which I pointed out in the earlier post. I have studied it quite a bit (being Swede and all makes it quite interesting to read up on the historical beliefs of our ancestors and so on).
As far as I am aware there are no stories in the Norse history where the people would call upon animal spirits.
Shamanism is not something from the Norse mythology either for that matter.
Sylvari have the same size as humans. They have basically the same physic overall as humans. They are rather close to humans when it comes to morale and believes and such. Much more so than Human — Norn.
ArenaNet themselves have been rather clear multiple times that Norn != big humans.
In game they are equal. Anet could have given them more power and balanced them in another way. They chose to make Norn equal to the other races in this regard.
Except that they basically couldn’t without making a situation where one race would be “required” to be optimal for a specific profession. Something that they made rather clear that they wouldn’t.
A Norn in lore is basically on the power-level that they could easily kill a bear with only their fists.
Norn, individually, are no more physically powerful than humans. They lack discipline, organization, and an army.
Actually I believe a Norn is much more physically powerful than a human. They are simply shown as equal for the sake of game-play.
I have studied Norse mythology quite extensively, and I have yet to come up to a single situation where the praying to spirit animals happen. Which is basically what most of the Norn society is built around.
Oh, so we don’t count Sylvari as human, despite them being much closer to humans than Norn, but Norn are totally human?
Asura have no connection to rats/mice (you are probably thinking about Skritts, which are basically big talking rats).
I would say that one of the major aspects of the Norn is not even remotely based on Norse lore but rather native american.
Are we going to go on claiming that Sylvari is just green humans as well then? Or Asura being very smart, tiny humans?
yes you can see Norns as vikings
the cold areas and there hunters
Oh, I agree that the are inspired by the vikings.
But that doesn’t mean they are humans.
They might look a bit like humans, but that doesn’t make them humans.
Plus aren’t Norns just Nordic based Humans anyways.
No.
Norn don’t have armies.
This is a little rediculous, they are so worried about taking back titles. You are hurting the people needing access more than helping the people who got the achievs. Who cares about that honestly? I’d rather have my access.
How do you NEED access though?
And I would say it hurts way more that people not having earned the titles and such have access to them than those that have earned them can’t access them for a while.
It is also worth pointing out that it is rather likely that the vast majority of people that actually have unlocks in HoM already have gotten them unlocked and thus can already use them (for free).
You are misunderstanding the stress test was non NDA we dont know if this beta will have an NDA or not connected to it.
Actually we know that there will be no NDA for the betas.
Can I talk about the beta on my blog/fan site or show it on my live stream?
Yes! There’s no non-disclosure agreement for these beta tests, so feel free to share your experiences!

And would anyone here actually accept a reply that said: “No we can’t add it right now due to lack of resource?”
I find that rather unlikely.
There is no way to bypass a server being full no.
that really aint an excuse they could perfectly fine bringing it back with no extras. it would give people a chance to get the SAB skins again
due to my limited play time i only managed to get 1 King toad weapon.
And yet it is very naive to think that they can just push a button and SAB is back working as intended.
There have been a massive amount of changes to the game and the engine since SAB was last available. So at the very least they would have to take people to test that it still work as intended and at the worst they would have to spend weeks if not more to fix issues that have turned up. Weeks that would have to be taken away from preparing the HoT launch.
I would assume someone is thinking that they will become more popular with the Reaper or something like that, and thus tries to push up the price.
It is still a matter of story.
The only reason we defeated Zhaitan was that the story stopped it from actually acting logically.
It could easily have wiped out the whole offensive of Orr within hours of us starting it. But since the story need to have us beat it, it did not do that.
Alright, lets say that there was a large dangerous bear running around killing livestock and people in this small medieval town.
Who do they send out to track down and kill him?
They send a hunter, simply because a hunter already have the skills necessary to track down and take care of said dangerous bear.
EDIT: The number or posts in a thread is completely irrelevant actually. Especially considering that it is mainly the same people posting over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. It is also a rather unfair comparison seeing as the Engineer thread is in a forum more or less only Enginners would check, while the Dragonhunter thread is in one of the major forums.
You claim to try and be unbiased and yet your dislike for the Dragonhunter is extremely clear.
I am also rather sure that you created more or less the exact same thread on Reddit a couple of days ago and got plenty of arguments for why the Dragonhunter works, which you simply disregarded.
Here is the thread in question: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/35yf59/looking_for_dh_defenders_no_disrespect_please/
And as was pointed out multiple times in that thread:
Hunting can be used to pursue and vanquish dangerous creatures that threatens the people. Ergo protecting the people, which is exactly what the Guardian is all about.
Interestingly enough the OPs own character name could potentially be against the naming policy.
The only reason to specifically exclude the most powerful weapons humankind has developed is because you believe Mordremoth would be trivially defeated by them.
So, nukes is the strategy, and the answer is yes, modern military can take on Mordremoth.
Delivery method is tactics. I’ll let the other armchair Generals work out how to do that.
But do we actually know that?
I was more under the impression that the OP didn’t allow nuclear weapons simply because it isn’t actually used in warfare.
Nuclear weapons are also mainly against ground targets. It is very likely that Mordremoth is still deep underground so it might avoid the nuclear blasts which would just mean that it now also have a protective area of radioactivity on top of it. Which makes further assaults even harder.
Shouldn’t really be much of an issue:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition#Skills_that_remove_conditions
And the only thing that will lead to is people getting annoyed at having to click that pop-up every time they get a mail.
It most likely won’t help either. If the lack of ArenaNet icon and a big sign saying it is not from ArenaNet doesn’t help, I doubt anything will.
And yet bugs like that happens all the time. If it was as easy as you claim, such bugs would be unheard of, and yet that is not the case.
I did not say the low drop rate was a problem. I said that issues could turn up that could be impossible to actually identify as issues due to low drop rate.
Lets say the system mistakenly tells the system that account A already had a drop, despite not having one (and not flagging the account). That would mean that account A could never ever no matter how much time or how lucky they were get a portal, which means that they simply couldn’t get access to beta. But due to the low drop rate people would just attribute it to RNG.
Programming (for actual programmers) is harder than people think. It looks all easy and such but people that actually work with it is fully aware that things seldom works as intended, no matter how much you have thought it through beforehand.
^ And yet it could rather easily lead to issues that would be more or less impossible to actually see, due to the low drop rate.
Why would they stop releasing specs? That would make no sense at all. The hype is finally building again and people are excited. It would be marketing suicide to stop releasing specs at this point…
It would be more marketing suicide to release all of them now and then don’t have a release until a couple of months after the last one was revealed.
It does after all seem to be the thing that interests most people.
It seems smarter to have these three now, then a week or two with other stuff (Guild Halls, Revenant, Challenging Group content) and the go with either the rest or three more with a break for lore info and then finish up with the last three soon before release.
Read what it says in the very bottom of the mail.
The point in maintaining it is that it makes crafting relevant to the market.
Why would people bother buying the materials on the TP if they could just make all of them by themselves in a day?
Honestly, I think a lot of the ascended complaints would go away if Anet simply eased up on the time gate a bit and ascended weapons / gear were available via other means than crafting and lucky drops.
Why ease up on something that can be completely bypassed already?
And while it might very well make some of the complaints go away it might also bring in new complaints and put us back on square one again: “It is so fast and easy to get the best gear, add something that requires some work!”
Unless you are going to play WvW the home server is rather irrelevant nowadays due to the Megaservers.
As long as you are in the same server region (NA/EU) you can do everything PvE and sPvP together.
It is also possible to change server for free by deleting all characters on the account. Keep in mind that you can only change server once every 7 days though.
Yes.
I’ll go ahead and comment on this thread, as it seems to be the most recent of the HOM ones.
I’ll try to explain this without getting too technical, and some parts are probably going to have to be left out.
The bug that caused players to unlock achievements/skins/titles and achievement points was caused when the GW1 server that stores the HOM status talks to the GW2 server that controls new character creation. Basically it was sending bad data to the GW2 server, and unlocking achievements that should not have been unlocked.
This means that there were multiple problem points that need to be cleaned up. The first thing to be cleaned up was the bug that caused this to happen, and that was fixed within a few hours. However, the removal of the rewards is an entirely different problem.
We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed. Unfortunately, this came at a time where our resources are tapped to the max, so it’s taking longer than we would like to fix this.
Thankfully (lol), when the HOM rewards bug was happening, the actual HOM was not accessible, and those players were not able to claim any other HOM entitlements…so the damage was somewhat limited.
We are working on this, I assure you, and we will remove the rewards from players that should not have received them. I do not have a timeframe, as modifying accounts at this type of level is not something we would ever take lightly, and as long as we keep a majority of the entitlements locked there is less for us to clean up.

Until there is information at https://www.guildwars2.com we should assume all these dates and prices are false.

One sees patterns where one wishes to see patterns.
I don’t mind traditional grinding but i absolutely hate being timegated. It feels like the most cheap method of keeping a player in your game…it’s actually kinda pathetic.
I would agree, if it was not possible to bypass the timegating.
Because you didn’t login and unlocked them when they were active.
I farmed Silverwastes for mats and managed to get full ascended gear (weapons and armor) in less than a month. My only problem is now infusing them. I am just too lazy to do fractals haha.
But to be fair unless you actually do high-level fractals you have no reason to infuse them in the first place :P
For the time gated material you can. That’s what was being refereed to
Ah indeed. I recalled in-correctly and thought that they required multiple tiers of metal/wood.
But then again, after a few hours of SW you will also have enough gold to buy quite a bit of the rest of the materials anyway.
A few SW runs and you have enough for about 2 days
Not even remotely close.
Especially not considering the fact that you can’t even get the majority of the items in SW.
But like today I was in WvW and at the end of the small fight we had I had 4 HP left. Full ascended stats could have saved me if someone got one more hit on me.
It is basically 1 fight in a 1000 that is even slightly effected by Ascended.
So basically making necromancer a healer?
How good is Necromancer with a AoE power build right now?
I think people are misunderstanding the whole thing with Elite Specializations. They are not about adding something completely new never before seen in the game, they are about adding something new to the specific class. As far as I am aware, AoE power build is currently not possible for Necromancer.
And yet Dragonhunter makes sense for a Guardian as well, seeing as one of the parts of being a hunter is hunting down dangerous beasts that threatens the people/community. Which is exactly what the Guardian is all about.
So… how is Reaper any less generic than the Dragonhunter, which people raged like mad about being so generic?
I have seen plenty of people on reddit complain about the lack of support.
I think people need to step out of the box and see that boons is not the only way to support allies.
Chill is a great way to support your group, since it makes the enemy much easier to deal with.
What makes you so sure that we could do that simply because it WANTED us to do it? A smart enemy would do exactly what Mordremoth did. Lure the main enemy in and then finish them in one swift stroke.
We know for a fact that it could attack us much further away than the bases in Silverwastes, and yet it did not do so (until it was ready to force our hand by attacking the main HQ).
We have no information yet. When the information is available it will be up on the official page.
I was guessing this weekend at first, but it does seem unlikely now, since there have been no information about it yet. So probably next weekend. It would be weird to have too long between the last drop of Portal to the actual test after all.
Actually I belive beta will start after we know every spec so we all could try spec we like the most. For example I`d like to know what spec will warrior have and someone else would like elementalist spec and A.net can`t give it all at once. We will have to wait a few weeks.
That would mean a minimum of 6 more weeks. That is over a month (and that is assuming they drop all Specialization after each other, which I believe was stated that they will not).
