Working on getting old content back should never be the same priority as working on getting new content out.
They will possible go back to work on getting S1 out after the expansion launches, but spreading their team out between expansion and re-adding old content is not a good use of resources.
Because they cleaned up a couple of months back.

I read it as 98.228% of the 0.175% are gold sellers. That’s stil llegit players getting hurt.
So, as long as even a single legit player get effected by something they should not have it in the game?
That would basically mean that they should remove more or less every single security measure they have.
Why did you only partially quote me? Don’t cherry-pick my point. What about communities or guilds that want to do gold giveaways like GW-EN do for Pink Day in LA?
Because it was that part of the quote that I answered?
Do they actually give away more than 500 gold to a single person though? And if that is the case it can easily be solved by simply giving them a high value item or such instead.
Simple as that.
Yes last day of the month today so should be an update on this, unless they announce it with a game update, which looks to be happening tomorrow as nothing has been announced yet?
If you look a liiiiittle bit further up in this very thread it outright states that we will get information today.
Looks like gem custom exchange drama hitting again from different angle.
I’m wondering why these ideas are geeting a green light. It’s like DRM, legit players will be punished the most.
I hope it’s april fools, because if not I will punish anet with my wallet closed tight for the incompetence in executing such a ridiculous idea.
Except that in this very thread the security people pointed out that only 0.175% of the players over a month, and the fact that 98.228% of the accounts that sends those massive amounts of gold are from RMTs.
I would say that 0.175% is much less than 98.228%, but then again, my math might be a bit off.
Which will decrease their potential market quite a bit. Ergo a win for the game.
It fixes no problems, gold sellers will just get smarter and send 500g + the equivalent value of materials and items to the rest they want.
And yet the value of materials can shift from hour to hour. Especially if a bunch of gold sellers buy a couple of thousands of them. Thus it will make it much more annoying for them to conduct their sales.
This makes me nervous as it tells me ANET doesn’t care. Especially those who spend real money on the Gem store. This doesn’t make me have much faith in this company.
Or they do care, which is the reason why they are being careful?
Logging in from loads of different places all the time does appear very suspicious after all, seeing as that is basically what hackers and gold-sellers do to avoid being tracked down.
If you say so.
Fact remains, if the publisher wants something, it happens. Otherwise they can simply decide to just drop the whole deal and close down the whole operations over there, which would lose ArenaNet a kittenton of money.
They don’t really have much to say about stuff like these. That is just how publishing works. Why else do you think there are so many vast differences between the EU/NA and Chinese version of the game?
ArenaNet have a grand total of nothing at all to do with those things.
They develop the game, but the running, gem-store, VIP, competitions, Raffles and everything that is not strictly programming is done by the publisher.
This is also not a new thing. It have been the case in GW2 China (and really any MMO over there) since release.
(edited by lordkrall.7241)
This was brought up a few months ago as well.
And just like then it is advertisement for a raffle.
Spot the Eye of the North onwards player…
I played GW since a few months after Prophecies were released actually.
And no, the ectos used there are not even remotely close to what could be used here, seeing as the price there didn’t shift as often and as easily as it does here.
Then they can simply say to their clients that payments would be in the form of X. It is still up to their clients if item X is valuable enough as payment.
For example, if they can get you Twilight for just $10, it is definitely worth it for most people.
True, it can work with very high tier items that have a very high price. But I would say that most people that buy gold, do want the gold, not a Legendary, and thus it would still be somewhat low-tier items being given in place of gold. Which would change in price several times per day, and thus it wouldn’t really be a reliable trade.
Would you have demanded your gold back (which as far as I am aware will never happen) if they made knowing changes to the runes or fear as well?
This is a MMO, things constantly change, something I buy today might not work at all in a couple of months and so on. That is just how things work out.
If it is indeed a bug, it will be fixed. Simple as that.
Do you think that the bug will stay in the game forever?
Here is how it works: We make the legendary, I put it up on the tp. It sells. I get the money, put the overhead in the bank (2k) then split the remaining profit between the client, myself, and my partner.
This will normally be around 500+ for the client, 250ish for me, and 250ish for my partner.
Depending on what we make, what the items cost, and how much it is selling for currently.
We do this quite often, and it would ruin our way of making money.
So you are using an unsupported way to make money, and now you are complaining when ArenaNet does not take your unsupported way to make money into account when they do changes…?
so lets get this straight
to counter RMT, anet have decided to restrict gold transfer via emails so that RMT simply start to transfer items of equivalent value instead
wp anet you just annoyed the minority of people who transfer large gold sums legitimately and made no effect on gold sellers
I wouldn’t be so fast as to claim that it will have no effect on gold sellers. Sure, it can easily be bypassed by trading items and such instead, but items shift in value rather often, ESPECIALLY if a massive amount of them are being bought up by gold sellers in order to trade them. Which will make the whole system rather annoying for them, since the prices might change from one day to another.
Depends on what the content in question is.
For example the Legendaries. I would rather get a couple of them at release (like we will know) with the rest coming in later updates, than having the expansion pushed back simply for them to get ready.
On the other hand I would not want a incomplete Personal Story, but would rather wait until that was ready even if it meant the expansion would take longer to arrive.
Good change I would say.
The amount of people being effected by this is probably rather few, while at the same time it does make it quite a bit harder for the gold-sellers.
Wouldn’t it be smarter to limit the amount of gold people are sending, not receiving? I’m against those restrictions in any form, but still curious.
Gold sellers probably have multiple accounts however. So even if it was a limit on sending they could just use other accounts to bypass it.
Your first mistake is that you are sending multiple tickets.
Each new ticket puts you at the end of the line.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the issue itself doesn’t seem to be something on the game side, but rather something on your computer, such as faulty hardware.
You are ignoring the fact that it is completely different to have a game built with multiple versions in mind and one that is not.
Guild Wars 2 was built from the ground and up for DirectX 9. The whole engine is built around specifically having DirectX 9.
In order to get Guild Wars 2 Direct X 12 compatible, they will have to rebuild the engine, since it is not built to handle Direct X 12 (or 10 or 11) at this time. That will take money and resources.
I actually HAVE used Windows 8.1 quite a bit. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.
I prefer to have my desktop and startmeny as it have been for the last 20 years, I have no need for smart-phoneish interfaces. Windows 7 is stable, and until there is actual issues using it, I have no reason whatsoever to upgrade.
Windows 7 and 8 will get free upgrades to windows 10. so at the release of windows 10 there is no actual reason NOT to upgrade. Other platforms will get this upgrade as well… Only they require a full reinstall. This could be very nice, though I expect compatibility issues will arise
I can see plenty of reasons to not upgrade.
Compatibility is a rather large one.
The whole focus on touch-screens is another one (I seem to recall it being similar to 8 in that regard).
All the issues that usually comes with new OS releases. Keep in mind that it will only be free for a year after the actual launch.
Windows 7 works without too much issues, so why bother upgrading, even if it is free?
Still doesn’t answer how much you are willing to pay for all the work required to get DirectX 12 available for GW2.
No matter how much you try to twist and turn it, it will be a rather massive cost and it will take rather large amount of time and they will need to hire more people.
But the game engine is built for DirectX 9. You can’t just magically push a button and have it use DirectX 12. If that was the case why would any game ever use anything other than the latest version?
(edited by lordkrall.7241)
So, how much would you be willing to pay for basically a complete rebuild of the whole engine that will probably take years and loads of new employees?
Seeing as there are over 1500 events in the game (most likely closer to, or over 2000 by now) that would very quickly completely destroy the economy. Unless the DR becomes cross-maps and starts within a few events that is.

Since they are most likely one of the things that require most work and tweaking I would assume they would be some of the latest blog posts actually.
My bet is that we will see more info on Guild Halls and Challenging Group Content before we see more about the specializations.
Simply due to the fact that it is fully possible that specializations will changes quite a bit between now and release.
And we all know how well people on these forums takes changes….
If you buy unlimited access to a local amusement park and use it for a month, after which time it closes down for maintenance for a year and a half with the elusive promise that “someday it’ll be back” you really don’t believe that you would demand a refund, on account of “it’s been too long and my right to a refund expired?” Really?
Because I’d think you’d be (justified in) saying that you felt the business was trustworthy, that they were going to bring that content back seasonally, and learning that absolutely no maintenance was being scheduled for the park totally and completely means that you’re eligible for a refund.
No, I simply point out that they aren’t necessarily required to give me a refund, seeing as the content/park will come back.
People keep arguing that it was a stated fact that SAB would return seasonally, that was never even slightly hinted at. People ASSUMED it would be like that. Never in anyway or form have it ever been stated however. We know that it will come back however, therefore refunds aren’t issued.
I would also say that the reason that most people waited half a year before requesting their refunds might also very well effect it. If you want a refund for something, you request it in a short amount of time. Not half a year later. I can’t really think of anything that would allow a refund for a (used no less) item after that period, unless it expressively says so when you buy it.
Because people complain on mass?
You mean just like last year?
That might have been true if refunds had been available previously, but they weren’t. ANet can’t say “No you can’t have refunds because it’ll come back”, then after a year and a half say “No you can’t have refunds because it’s been too long.”
Then they will probably just keep saying: “No you can’t have refunds because it’ll come back”.
Why would they suddenly change their minds about it?
Demanding a refund now will do nothing other than to just increase the already heavy load on support, and won’t help anyone.
This is an insultingly bad argument. The product was marketed as being reusable. It hasn’t been reusable. It’s really that simple. Just because you keep repeating this stance doesn’t make it right.
It was reusable for as many times as you wanted. Never in anyway or form did it say that it will be useable at all times however.
If I buy an unlimited access card to the local amusement park, I can’t really go around and demand that they let me in if they have to shut it down for maintenance or if it is only open during certain periods each year.
Everyone knew when they bought the coin that it was not content that would be usable at all times. The fact that people have decided to wait for over 1,5 years to demand a refund doesn’t really help their case.
A refund is not valid forever after all.
Read some of the company’s reviews and you will understand why people keep leaving all the time.
Anyway, he did a fine job and I hope it will be more appreciated by the management of whatever company he will work for next.
Ah yes, you mean the review on the page where anyone can leave a review without any sort of proof that they have actually worked where they claim? It is also worth pointing out that it is a rather biased group that writes there, since people that are happy usually don’t bother with it.
You also make it sound like they have a massive leak of people, when in fact they have only really lost 4-5 “known” people since the game was released. Which is very few, especially in this line of business.
^ It is highly unlikely you would even be able to get a refund for an item that was bought over a year and a half ago actually. So I would say “mass customer support tickets” will not help anyone. Just the opposite in fact. It will just take time and resources away from real issues.
Well thats a very far fetched interpretation of match manipulation. There literally is no scoring in obsidian sanctum and it doesnt stop other people from playing normally in the obsidian sanctum.
It does however give you rewards by working together with the other team(s) with no risks.
EDIT: Or not apparently.
I would assume that people that keep doing it might end up in trouble, since it is rather clear that ArenaNet does not like what is going on, and it is outright stated in the ToS that it is not allowed.
The relevant part:
While participating in Plaver-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.
I wonder if it had to do with that detailed reddit guide on how to farm OS and the fear it would become rampant this weekend.
Aye, it have also been increased quite a bit in-game the last few days.
I did send the reddit link to the exploits email though, so maybe it did caught their attention and they decided to do something about it before going home for the weekend.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
There were no CDIs for months before Chris left though. And even if he hadn’t left, I highly doubt we would have CDIs in the middle of preparing for an expansion.
^ The same thing happened a few weeks ago with Gaile though, she posted on one account that looked exactly like the rest of us, but later clarified with her real account when she got access to that.
They are both very easy compared to WoW heroic raid bosses.
The only thing that makes them feel hard to some is the fact that its open world and you cannot pick the people you have with you. So you get a broad range from terrible players to good players. And people who afk/troll/leech.
I am talking about back before people learned the fights.
WoW Heroic Raid bosses are also rather easy when you know exactly what to do. Everything is.
Have you tried the Triple Trouble Wurm or the updated Tequatl?

Don’t worry a whole lot about the icons shown, they are all placeholder.
and
I hooked them all up. Not sure why my account isn’t showing as a dev account, but I am in fact, Linsey Murdock.
you are lawyering and loopholing
the intention was clear. At that time they had not charged for any update, even living story.
It was meant to be a regular update at no cost. Dont pretend here. And it should logically be one. The issue it was created to solve, is a flaw in the core system, not the expansion area.
Oh, I agree, it was rather clear what it was planned to be. But people keep claiming we were promised the update for free, something that never actually happened. Saying that we were promised it for free and it is now put behind a paywall instead is just outright lying. No such promise was ever made. Heck, they didn’t even go into details at all about how the system would work. For all we know it could have been put as a gem-store unlockable item.
I keep seeing people mention that we were promised precursor crafting and new legendaries for free.
I never recall such a statement.
The only thing they ever said was that it was planned for 2013 (which was later, before the end of 2013, postponed). As far as I am aware they did never in any way or form claim that it would be a free addition.
We don’t know how much it will cost.
Nor do we know if it will be worth the price, since we don’t know the price nor do we know all things being added with the expansion.
what u mean? in wich way? wtf…
so if actual happy players wanna keep playing, have to pay a “fee”?
You can keep playing just fine.
You simply won’t have access to most of the expansion content.
