Which is quite stupid.
Considering we have a grand total of no idea which items will be needed.
The pictures we have seen have been confirmed to consist of placeholder images.
Alright, then what’s your explanation for why all of the legendaries won’t be released at launch? This is the first indication they’re giving us that some will be held off until later.
Can you please give me a plausible reason why they’re only now telling us this?
Because they want to ease us into the new system instead of dumping it all on us at once?
Because they want to see how well the new system will work before they spend loads of time and resources on it and it ends up being hated?
Because purely cosmetic items (that needs to have a “legendary” and unique feel) takes massive amount of times to come up with and aren’t really that high of a priority, thus they decided on a specific number to release with the expansion and to release the rest later. Because not doing that could potentially hold up the whole expansion for something that most people might not even care about.
They haven’t but they’re moving quickly and are in Beta mode (stress-test mode, whatever) very shortly after announcing it.
Yes, they started Closed Beta quite recently. There are games that takes over a year between start of closed beta to actual release.
They have even stated multiple times that they will not give a release date until they have had a bunch of betas, in order to make sure it is not rushed out.

Does someone else saw that 2 of the item needed for the collection for the Energizer is Chaos of Lyssa and Shadow of Grenth. Those two items are respectively 600 and 350 gold. The Energizer sold for 250 gold on the TP.
They also showed the Queen Jenna Mini icon for the “Dance with the Queen” part, so I wouldn’t assume it requires those specific items.
It is very likely that they are simply placeholders.
This game is being rushed out the door so hard lol.
Quite silly statement seeing as they haven’t even given us a release date yet.
Ah yes, they are so cheap so that they spend money and resources on a test that would be completely pointless….
There have been TWO stress-tests in total. Both on Tuesday. So unless the lag have only ever happened on Tuesday, I don’t really see how it is connected at all.
It is also extremely unlikely that they are run on the same servers, since that would kind of defeat the whole point of the stress-test.
I don’t think we should put too much store in the icons used.
The icon for Dancing with Jenna shows the same icon as the Jenna Miniature after all.
It could easily be either placeholders or items/things using the same icon.
That’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. Guild Wars 2’s dungeons are currently dying specifically because of developer neglect. You can’t use the fact that they’re dying to justify continued neglect.
Or in other words, the question isn’t where dungeons are now, the question is where dungeons could be if they were getting proper attention.
It’s already been proven over and over again that dungeons and raids do still work for casual players. In fact, they can serve the needs of casual players better than open world content would — this follows from the fact that, aside from its associated rewards, there is no value that can be added to a piece of PvE content that will survive contact with a zerg.
And why do you think they pulled resources from it in the first place?
There must be a reason for it after all. You can’t really claim that the reason loads of people didn’t play dungeons six months after release was due to them being “neglected”.
^ It is legit.
I would suggest using this link however: http://gaming.corsair.com/se-fi/landing/paxeast
So as to not give the others potential extra chances due to referal links.

so this means if you want to craft one of the new legendaries twice you cant?
because you cant only make the precursor once and precursors that others found are not tradeable?
and mystic toilet is no option ofc
I got the impression that the precursors can still drop, and the dropped ones will be tradeable, just like the current ones. I read it as only the precursors made by the Mastery System will be once per account and untradeble.
If that is not the case, the Twice-told legend achievement will basically become impossible for newer players once the supply of old precursors runs out.

I wonder if we will get a blog post about this today. Now that China have spilled the beans.
So what’s the difference between adding a new dungeon and a new map with a personal story segment? Effort-wise.
While the efforts might not differ much (I would guess that a new map takes more effort though.) the amount of people using the fruits of the effort differ greatly.
A new map will be visited for years, while dungeons might end up being more or less abandoned after a few months.
Thus one thing feels more worth it from a development point of view.
Everything is easy when people have learned the encounters. That is always the case.
Back at release people complained like mad about how the dungeons were too hard and basically impossible.
Later when the revamped AC it was the same again, people claimed it was way too hard.
They can change and revamp things all they want but when people figure out how to do it the encounters will be considered easy yet again.
Why shouldn’t it be allowed?
Who are you to decide what groups can and can’t join in the queue?

Being level 80 have a grand total of nothing at all to do with battle power in-lore. It is simply mechanics.

The Pact is basically destroyed, so not really many of those that can tag along anymore.
The thing is, people prefer to have some sort of connection with the characters around them. Bringing along Pact Warrior #6 and Pact Mesmer #2 isn’t really all that interesting.
But that is what every expansion ever is.
It is just a bunch of releases put together and given a price tag. Why is it suddenly such a surprise?
Keep in mind that people have been demanding a paid expansion since the Living Story started more or less. And over and over again shouted about how “we” rather have a bunched up story than the two week small releases. Now we are getting exactly that.

To be fair three of them are basically kids, so it would make sense that they didn’t behave like full adults. I don’t think they have ever been claimed to be an “incredible fighting team” actually for that matter.
I am sure there will be parts of the story where we will be alone. But one have to keep in mind that we are going deep into enemy territory, doing that on your own is usually not a very good idea.
When they did that announcement thing this is what many said. For an expansion it seemed to lack content. Some have argued that even though they are just adding 1 zone, that zone will have 3 layers.
They are adding one REGION. They are adding multiple zones/maps in that region.
1000$? Isn’t that a bit much for a video game? Frankly, if you like the game that much, paying something like 50$ for an expansion might be worth it. But hey, do as you want.
If you have played WoW since release and are still playing you have paid more than that in subscriptions alone. The add in a couple of 100$ more for the base game and the expansions.
So, you have spent over $1000 on the game, and now you no longer will if there are no new dungeons.
One would have thought that with that line of thinking you would have stopped giving them money a long time ago, seeing as dungeons haven’t really been getting much love for years.
One has to wonder why after 2 years of the game running, they even need to do a stress test, are they re-writing the backend architecture or something similar?
They are adding completely new systems to the game. That requires stress-testing.
They are apparently also trying out a new condition system (no cap or at least a much higher cap), and that alone would require quite a bit of stress-testing.
Why can’t I access certain game features from my beta character?
To keep our live game healthy while we do our tests, beta characters are restricted from certain game features. You will be unable to access PvP, WvW, the Black Lion Trading Post, and some other features from your beta character.
Which would suggest no Stronghold.
Not all season 1 rewards are there. There is some that I think the devs need to add.
Like..?
It is very likely that it is simply the demo they have shown at PAX and Rezzed. The test is to test stability after all, not to test new things.
cmon
windows xp got abandoned even by m$ a YEAR ago
its old, outdated, not supported anymore system. move on. win7/8 can run on quite any machine.
That is rather irrelevant. I personally don’t use XP anymore, but people do, and the game can currently run on XP. I do not recommend it due to security risks and such, but the fact remains that some people might not be able to (or want to) upgrade.
And that doesn’t really change the fact that not everyone will be able to or want to upgrade to Windows 10, even if it is free. I am not sure I will, at least not at first, since it is rather common that the first few months (or in the case of some of them, years) are rather bad and buggy.
It is of course also a matter of taste. I did not upgrade to Windows 8, due to having a computer, not a smart-phone. And Windows 10 seems to follow the smart-phony road.
I guess anyone anyone not loyal enough to get in the beta is a clear sign that someone is sending a clear message that if your not in that list of loyal players your just not good enough. A symbol that anyone not in the beta should stop spending Monies in the BLT. If you didn’t meet this mystical requirment
Or on a more realistic note, people should understand that they can’t include every single person on the list on the very first test.
Kitten, I don’t think anyone on these forums would deny that I usually supports ArenaNet quite a bit (both by buying gems and by discussion on these and other forums) and yet I did not get an invite to the first test.
You don’t see me raging about that, simply because I understand that not everyone will be able to fit in the first small test.
You guys are aware that most of the games that have DirectX 10-11 support also support DirextX 9, right? And that people on Windows 7 and 8 will be able to upgrade towWindows 10 (which have DirectX 12) for free during the first year after Win 10 release?
Not everyone will be able or even want to update to Windows 10 though. Also keep in mind that Windows XP is still listed as minimum requirement for Guild Wars 2. And Windows XP can’t get the free update, nor can Windows Vista.
this game already has translations for different languages, wouldn’t kill to have an extra one for russians.
And then another for Swedish, Italian, Dutch, Hindi, Japanese, Swahili and so on. If they start adding one language they should also be adding the rest as well, and that means they would basically have to hire 150 new people just to handle translating and such.
I’m usually a big supporter of ANET, but even I have to say from a business perspective, if you are shutting down a major mechanic of a piece of software, it is important to relay that to the customer.
You make it sound like it was shut down on purpose. Which is rather unlikely. Much more likely that the servers crashed or something like that (which makes sense seeing as EU wasn’t effected at all).
While I don’t doubt that is true it is just another example of poor customer service on the part of anet. A simple “We know there are issues and are working on them” from anyone with an anet tag would go a long ways.
While true that would assume that the people working on the issues actually have forum tag access and could post about it, which isn’t necessarily true.
It is actually rather unlikely that anyone other than a small team (to fix issues like these) and some customer service reps (to work on tickets) are actually at the office during the night.
But how do you know it is bugged?
There have simply not been any newsletters since they announced the beta-sign up.
People should keep in mind that the people handling communications and such have probably been sleeping until quite recently. That doesn’t mean the team is not working on the issues, but I would not expect any forum interaction until most of the staff is actually awake/at work.
In WoW you could choose between different directx versions, they could introduce that. They also went from directx 8 to 9 in GW1 Prophecies to Factions. Imo it is a bit embarassing to have a 10 year old renderer. It’s really ancient.
I don’t think it is fair to compare a company like Blizzard that makes millions every month to a company without any steady, guaranteed, income.
One could also point out that the difference between DirectX 8 and 9 was quite a bit smaller than the difference between 9 and 10,11,12.
There is also the fact that the engine was still rather new by the time Faction launched, but now it is over 10 years old (since GW2 uses a modified GW1 engine) and would require quite much rewriting. Something that I am not sure they could justify, seeing as the current client works well enough.
No, it really doesn’t.
Yes it does.
It is in no way perfect. But it does work the majority of the time.
If you didn’t sign up until after the blog post about the betas, you wouldn’t have any mails, since no mails have been sent since (except for the invites for those who got them).
No.
It would be way to easy to grief.
Just look at reddit. The downvoting is supposed to be used for off-topic posts and such, and yet people always use it for disagreeing about the post in question. It is very likely that the same would happen here. People would downvote someone for disliking them, rather than for them being a “bad” player.
There is no confirmation mail.
The latest newsletter came on March 5th, and was about PAX East, Rezzed and Twitch.
If you got that mail you are on the list.
It was relevant to your post where you referred to the RNG, which wasn’t the only way to get it (and the reward track is coming back this year).
One could of course also point out that your discussion about RNG wasn’t really relevant either, since the only thing the OP wondered was if it was possible to get more than one from the presents.
Possibly 1 in 12k? ANet obviously thinks we <3 RNG and low drop rates.
You were guaranteed to get it by completing the PvP reward track.
There were different sort of tests.
There were the real beta tests, which were invitation only and didn’t really have any way to guarantee access. Then there were the Beta Weekend Events that you could get into if you were on the mailing list, got a code (massive amount of those codes were handed out) or pre-purchased the game. The last two was guaranteed access, while the first was completely random.
Only the last gave access to all three of them, while the codes only worked for one each.
You couldn’t really buy actual beta access with the original release either.
You could get access to the Beta Weekend Events, but those were more marketing stuff rather than actual beta tests. The access to the actual tests where never buyable.
It is quite possible that they will do some similar things with BWEs for HoT, but we don’t know when.
It does give you instructions.

DirectX 9 was released this millennium actually. The last DirectX to be released during the last millennium was 7.0 (as a release candidate, the actual release came in 2000).
It is unlikely that they will completely rebuild the whole engine. The current engine works quite well so no real reason to spend millions of dollars and years of work in order to completely rebuild it. It would also require supporting multiple versions of the client, which would require quite a bit of money and so on.
From the hotfix notes:
Fixed a client crash that occurred when attempting to enter the Hall of Monuments. Hall of Monuments rewards are temporarily disabled.
There was also an exploit involving HoM.

^ The stress tests isn’t mainly there to test stuff as such, but more to see server stability and such. Thus why it is so short.
I believe it will be the demo-build that is being tested. So WvW and new weapons (ergo Specializations) will not be in.
