[FG] doing our thing. Thanks for the bags AR
. Shout out to [Jade] and the couple of pugs that backed us up.
WvW Badge Farm Brought to You by FG
Really nice work. I enjoyed our windmill duels, and sorry to see you guys go.
To the 3-man team on the Sentry point east of the HoD this evening, good fight. I have never taken on a Guard, Thief and uh, whatever that 3rd guy was at the same time.
Whenever you want a rematch, whisper me in game, we can take it behind the windmill.
Every grenade skill on engi should be a blast finisher.
Whoa. I play engie, and that would be too OP. The #2 skill, sure, but not every one.
….
Engineers have Burst/Mitigation.
….
One or the other, but we definitely not at the same time. And while it seems bursty to the guy who has played an Engie main, rolling a thief or a warrior is eye-opening.
Engie Burst at level 80 is like Warrior burst at level 20.
In a small group when you take down 1 opponent it’s better to AoE him and try to kill ressers.
I use poison grenades first, to slow the downed players heals, then when the first few come to help, freeze grenades and then grenade barrage. If I am close enough, I interrupt with supply crate to stun and add a few more ticks of burning, and continue with the rotation.
I have so many badges from this classic sniper technique.
A three-way, but not the cool kind.
…is there any ranged skill 1 that is worse then thief pistol? condition damage in PvE is the worst.
Engineer pistol #1 is worse, but we don’t generally use it for anything other than AFK boss fights.
You must run on a strange server because the ele mist stomp is one of the most common safe stomps I have seen in the game. It is also by far the best safe stomp in the game IMO.
You guys must be living in March, because the servers we face have all moved to the blindness/teleport/obstructed stomps and I have to tell you, as another engineer, our downed state is terrible enough without having to account for that bullkitten.
And yes, most Engineers I have talked to have moved away from Elixir S, because a self daze is a LOUSY skill for most situations. Frankly, I blame the elementalists for that one.
I’ve read map chat were people were mad about the idea that Engineers would be able to have “effects” on their kits if they had their legendaries equipped, but I reminded them that we don’t get the weapon swap that other professions get (except for Eles) and that it is only fair since we can’t have a legendary Flame Thrower or Tool kit.
As of the beginning of June, there is a sound from 2 rifle skills, a unique visual from 1 rifle skill… #1, and get a glowy red grenade barrage. We get the red glow and the footstep explosions only when the weapon is equipped and no kits are being used.
I don’t care about turrets, but I would think the ANet would prioritize back pieces to promote the 1-3 available every month with their new content.
If you look at a current gallery of back pieces, there are dozens to choose from that you can get right now, and at least 1—the Jet Pack—which seems IDEALLY suited for the Aetherblade armor and the Engineering profession.
Those things are gonna go up in price if they ever fix the Hobo Sacks.
Well, I was having a good time until tonight. 12:30 EST.
Hello Zoom-Hackers.
Pretty bad when a T5 server has to use these tactics to beat a T7 server.
If you’re talking about the AC AOE circle. I feel you.
We were attacking one of DH tower and no ACs on top of the outer walls since we pretty much destroy them. And yet they still manage to hit our omega golems with AC. As everyone knows. Omega Golems are ranged. 1500 range.
If it’s not a exploit or hack. Can someone explain how that is done, just to avoid any accusation of hacking or exploit.
@ CornChips: BRING ALOT OF LUBS!
Yup, right on the inside of the door, I have no idea how anyone could place it so far in other than an exploit. And I will come right out an say it, I have met several nice people from DH, dueled a few behind the windmill and parted as at least respected acquaintances, but this is hacking.
What’s worse, I couldn’t get anywhere to select the person on the arrow cart to report them, because obviously, they can see where I move, and kill me deader ’n fried chicken before I reach the top of the wall.
Well, I was having a good time until tonight. 12:30 EST.
Hello Zoom-Hackers.
Pretty bad when a T5 server has to use these tactics to beat a T7 server.
I can’t see a tPvP scenario where you would have Warriors, Necros, etc. using their rez skills when an Engie can carry Elixir R as an afterthought and barely affect their build in any negative way, as they still carry with it condition removal and endurance refill.
But what about PvE? When I run as support with my guild, I would PREFER to have Elixir R as my stun break, so I am not tied to the Elixir gun, which inhibits my DPS in fights were we need it.
I will still run it where we need it, but why would they make that elixir so pointless EXCEPT for the tool belt skill?
I mean, have it remove 1 condition max, or make it not a combo field, or SOMETHING that still synergizes with a support build and put the stun break back in.
….On the flip side I have never been disappointed when I need a revive from a Warrior, Necro, Ele, or Guardian. If they use the skill, I’m getting revived. Period. None of this “well I hope I’m not actually being hit by anything” as is present with Elixir R. Which is ironic because for Elixir R to work you have to pretty much be in a state where you could just use Bandage to revive yourself eventually.
Exactly. Why bring an engineer with a chance of a revive, when you could bring a Warrior with an instant up… or 2.
Where the R toss shines is with either A. decent range, or B. self rez which we DESPERATELY need due the appalling downed state we current have to suffer through.
I don’t know what is worse, realizing that if I take elixir R as a utility that I will more likely die because of chain stuns, or knowing that if I toss it before I go down, it has a less than 50/50 chance of reviving me before I get stomped and there is nothing I can do about it.
But hey, I can do two more rolls…
Journal. Day 35. They still think I am one of them. They are beginning to grow suspicious. Tomorrow I will try to mate with one of them. End Journal
I would love to see the chat on the OTHER side of this bit of espionage…

Be nice if we could see what our target is doing, and the splosion doesn’t help.
This is why it was nerfed, it was so massively OP that it twisted the conception of an utility skill and set some extremely high expectation for one single skill.
Stun breaker, endurance refill, revive field, condition removal field. IN ONE SINGLE UTILITY. But since you guys got used to having such a massively OP skill now you find anything that doesnt bend time and space while making pancakes “useless”.
More thinking, less whining, act like real engineers.
Really? And nothing that any OTHER profession has is mind-bendingly powerful?
Come on. We give up skill slots for our “weapon swaps” the things we DO slot need to be MORE USEFUL.
Just because YOU don’t miss it, doesn’t mean that the rest of us that actually like being “support” oriented aren’t going to SERIOUSLY question even using it.
Save the attitude for when something you love goes under the axe for no reason.
Mix in a bit of rampager gear for a bit of power, which is nice with Elixir gun and grenades, and a higher crit chance.
go to the mists, and test anything
Be aware that some skills perform differently there.
Isn’t it still subject to the +100% condition duration that all conditions are? (Except for that one necro trait, of course)
Im well aware of these abilities. In fact guardian has one also incase you didnt know.
So does Engineer, although half of it just got nerfed into the ground.
Because Kitten Engineers.
If such a ridiculous escape mechanism can be tolerated – Anet said (and I paraphrase): “just ignore him and move on because you will never be able to catch the Thief” – then how is the Ele mist form state broken at all?
Because it is an INVULNERABLE mist form. It can’t be cced, chilled, crippled or rooted, and even after the nerf of the normal mist form (which also nerfed engineers, because… why not, right?) this is still the most OP downed state ability on a WAY too quick charge up.
I get it, SOMEONE has to have the most OP ability when downed, but why does a profession with decent to good combat movement get the BEST downed state movement when other professions haven’t been balanced up to it? Or even had the bugs worked out of theirs?
Necros had (and may still have) 1/3 the HP when down, Rangers can bug and go invulnerable, If I am blinded, my AoE explosion hits nothing… unlike a guardian bubble, and it’s charge up is longer than 2 FULL STOMPS.
Come on. The QQing is because other professions don’t have access to good, non-buggy downed states, and if they were on par, without being absolutely equal, people wouldn’t complain so much.
But a Thief? Who shouldn’t GET caught? And has both a stealth AND a teleport, complaining about OP downed skills?
Really man? Come on. I will tell you what the thieves who used to stomp me say;
roll one and quit complaining.
what is up.. i for for for got to loot your bags ~ ~ ~ wuauaahhhhh :0

hello strange opponents..
i slept through reset night, but will get back to you..
as for the guy who spotted our “zerg” in the skritt caves, it’s called a karma train.. your players do get personal WvW points for that y’know?i completely agree with Dovgan.. the only thing i’ll miss of [als] is the money they spent on upgrades.. our server just needs to reconstitute itself
and apologies to my fellow tyrians.. i’ve been spending less time on this game now that staff elem is So broken and irrelevant at this point
Well ALS is perfectly happy without you missing them. 630PP 200+ badges in 3 hours… good luck in tier 8 =P.
Not classy and embarrassing. I apologize for this post. We wish you all the luck in the world and this kinda post will not happen again.
Now THAT is stand up leadership.
Cheers.
Ok sounds like veil, but What is the limit per portal anyways? or is 20 the limit per portal?
20 is the limit per portal,
Also, the actual portal itself is very, very visible even if the zerg is not.So Veil is by far the most likely.
Add it to the long list of mesmer abilities that aren’t hindered by the 5-target limit imposed on other professions skills, utilities, and attacks.
Including Mass invisibility and Feedback; even Time Warp which IS limited to 5 now prioritizes players over illusions, pets, minions, etc.
And I still give swiftness to my turrets instead of players.
But whatevs.

I am not from your server, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight, so to speak… but it seems like you might be better off in the long run.
Also, welcome to that match!
Orrrr, they could make the spy kits work again in WvW.
My problem is stealth WITH shadow step and other teleport skills. That much movement while invisible is silly.
lol the fact you even put the warrior vengeance into this is laughable, lets complain about the most useless class in downed state
Nope. Engineer, hands down WORST down state in the game.
I think they were based on pistols as well.
Point of interest: Pistol’s little aoe ’splosion does not spread bleeds. If traited for piercing, then each target hit by the actual bullet gets bleed, but not from the ’splosions.
>.<
Well that is aggravating. It still does pierce and explode at the END of its path. Well, this makes sigil of earth that much more important to apply that one extra bleed.
FYI – The Rocket boot benefit from swiftness, which, if you aren’t in combat, is all you are getting from super speed. If that is how you are using them, just get your swiftness from kit swapping and save the extra utility slot.
On the other hand, super speed > slick shoes > rocket boots is a serious zerg busting combo. There is a bit of distance between the “patches” of oil, but it will knock down QUITE a few people.
Thats what i also thought at begining but after testing it a bit i found out that swiftness give you only around 150 aditional range while super speed gives around 250.
Also i dont thing it will be nefred as every form of jump (normal jump or skill) benefit from speed boost even that jump platforms in Aether dungeon, you can almost reach the top of the jp from the middle platform whit super speed.
Wow. I tested this in LA last night, and it seemed like it was the same as swiftness… I am not sure I can justify slick shoes AND rocket boots, but thx for the clarification.
It happened to the guy in my guild, and I think one other person, while the gate was being rammed by someone else. He was playing an engineer, so I doubt he was doing a melee attack and it did him no favors to find himself alone inside unexpectedly where he was quickly slain by the people inside. If the door is coming down, anyway, it’s better to charge in with the group, so I’d consider this a problem for attacker as well as defender.
Wait… what?
Ummmm, Engineers don’t have any teleporting skills, we have jumps, to be sure, but no winks or blinks or whatever the kids call ’em.
Is this a latency issue or something? (Like when you run at an Asura gate and pass through it)
apparently there is some sort of random issue that causes a person to be pushed/pulled/teleported/whatever thru a gate that is being rammed if they are standing close to it.
it’s been reported in the matchup threads many times now… in fact it’s been mentioned as happening to DR this week in their matchup against GoM and FC
Weird. Thanks for the info.
It’s PVE gear, with the following stats : power, precision, crit damage.
Some people are against it because it doesn’t offer any survivability stats, and people running with this kind of gear usually die fast.
This is great gear for glass cannon builds however. You hit hard (very hard), but you have to learn how to use dodge efficiently, as well as -in the case of an engi- other skills which might improve your life span (net, knockback, etc.).
This is exactly it. I also temper my build with some Knights gear, to up my toughness and add crit chance. Either Cavalier or Valk would also be OK, but we start with mid-range health, so toughness usually benefits us a bit more.
The number one thing to remember is that power is always the biggest direct damage increase, so if you use things like rabid pieces, you are not getting any power from them at all.
I hope ANET considers keeping this though. This doesn’t seem too broken, but it’s just plain awesome,g iving the engineer a completely new role!
(Only the Engineer is capable of flight!)
All I need is the jetpack backpiece.
Yeah. I have that. It looks amazing with the new TP steampunk gear that I colored to match my Dragon Jade pistol/shield.
You’re welcome, ANet. It was totally worth it for this patch.

Might experiment with bringing Elixir Gun. Its toolbelt is a regen/stun breaker and it gives you a retreat (or forward-leap if you spin around first) and a cripple/swiftness shot that can really help your escapability.
Rollin’ like this in WvW now, Grenades, EG, and Rocket boots in Koroshi’s Rabid build for a LOT of battlefield movement.
…Plus it stacks bleeds better than pistol.
Against a single target, absolutely.
If you are facing clumps of mobs and your pistols pierce, it is a bleed fest, simply because the small AoE, and the pistol will FAR outpace the bleeds of the EG.
For instance; you aim at the front mob (mob a), the pistol hits mob A and aoes the mob to the side (mob
and behind for bleeds, then the pistol hits mob B properly and AoEs mob A. Stack with sigil of earth for even more.
I use the EG on almost every run, especially in fights like Grawl Shaman (end stage) and with the new Stun break, I could NOT be happier, because for that fight, I can equip damage from grenades (for the lava elementals), my elixir gun for the boss keep the weakness up and the heal fields down and an emergency escape/blast finisher for my Heal turret, as well as a shield from the toss elixir U tool belt skill. The quickness during the lava slug phase helps as well.
Now I can even run 3 kits and still have a stun breaker. We may not have highly imbalanced skills like portals, but we now have more excellent options.
It happened to the guy in my guild, and I think one other person, while the gate was being rammed by someone else. He was playing an engineer, so I doubt he was doing a melee attack and it did him no favors to find himself alone inside unexpectedly where he was quickly slain by the people inside. This is intentional. Looks like some of the added stun breakers got lost from patch notes. I’ll take a look at which other ones and post something on it tomorrow at the latest.
“Some” of the added stun breaks?
There are other undocumented ones? omg.
Best Patch Ever.
Did the same thing. Kept the rocket boots in every build…
<3 them.
Thank you guys for finding this. I have a fix ready. It will take about a day but it should be in tomorrow.
Jon
Thanks Jon, it is much appreciated.
It is a very gimmicky build, but it does work in some cases.
I look forward to seeing how it does with all the new buffs, it think we are gonna see a really fantastic version in the wild soon.
This is AWESOME. I love the new boots… I strapped em on, ran into WvW and could NOT be happier.
So yeah, this is gonna get nerfed.
Lol. Everytime I run the UW fractal, especially with a PUG, I always link [Box of Piranhas].
This is met with quite a bit of “Wut?”
Guys… Try the rocket boots. With the Elixir gun, we have real combat movement now.
Wait… has this ALWAYS been a stun break? I could use it even when knocked down… never knew why.
Title says it all. Elixir Gun (as in kit builds) now has a stun breaker. Patch of the year all years.
WTF… is this in the patch notes?
Because that is excellent.
Basically, the only nerf there seems to be the elixir R one. Annoying, but overall we are better now.
Really?
Lets look at what we have to break stuns now: (new are marked with *)
Elixir S – After the nerf last patch, this is basically a self-daze, allowing you to do nothing but run around for 3 seconds, waiting to die.
Elixir U – The cool down has been reduced, and while helpful with the reflect wall in certain instances, this is nowhere near as useful for dungeon support in most cases. 3 seconds of +50% speed? great.
Rumble* – You have got to be kidding me. With that awesome 1 second of stability, this is hands down the most insulting buff I have seen thus far. Kitten turrets.
Super Speed* – from the slick shoes skill, which is gimmicky and mostly useless in dungeons, especially for bosses who have defiant. I run this when doing wisps in Swamp fractal, and that is all.
Utility Goggles – wow, just wow. On the upside, it has the shortest cool down. On the downside, it is useless except for a very specific set of circumstances where blind is a problem, and the tool belt skill is hilarious.
What stun breaks we lost:
Elixir R – the best tool belt utility in the game for support engineers. Period. Now the skill refills your endurance, which we have 2 good traits for, and that is all. You want the rez field? Bring this dog on your already too small utility bar.
Rocket boots – which sucked before, and now doesn’t break stuns.
So where does this leave us? Running static discharge, until it gets nerfed.
3 kit engineers get no stun breaks, no extra traits for gadgets, despite the buffs, and yet what do other professions get? It is raining buffs.
Rocket boots is now the greatest thing ever!
Yeah, except for the LACK OF A STUN BREAK.
I hope they plan on adding a reasonable stun break. No way I am equipping a turret just for the tool belt skill.
well what i mentioned was they hit u out of nowhere. so basically they hit directly 2 hits on you without any buff or skill on.
that’s why i said to be aware all the time when u r far away from keep.
If you look at the traits I posted, you will see that you can already reduce your damage after 1 crit using a 10 point trait. Add to this Runes, likes the ones I mentioned and increase the chance of mitigation, and with auto procs like elixir B at 75%, elixir S at 20% etc., you will increase your survival chances quite a bit.
So you will be buffed… automatically. Runes of the forge trigger protection at 50% health, so you could have ~16 seconds of protection or more just by getting critically hit twice.
…a good thief from top guild here can knock u to 10 – 20% health in 2 shots…
If you run around in zerk gear, with no mitigation, no auto-procs, and no back up, yes. If you pay attention the information in this thread about build, skills, traits, training and strategies, they can keep you alive and even allow you to kill thieves.
I rarely lose to thieves 1v1, it happens, but not often.
