Yak’s Bend server – Straits of Devastation
Several hours ago I had taken a late dinner break so I fortunately missed being thrown from the game – again. I found out just before I logged out that we had another server dump for some folks.

Apparently ever since the last maintenance there appears to be a server problem causing no end of dumps out of the game. From what I am reading timing is causing folks to lose a lot of loot, gold, achievements, etc.

Judging from lack of response I can only conclude the devs are feverishly working since they seem not to have the time to come to the forums to address our posts yet. My main irritation in this was I lost some xp toward my new 80 level on my mesmer when it happened to me the first time. I ended up having to recoup that loss so when I logged into the game yesterday late afternoon, I chose to not do what I truly wanted to do because I did not want to experience that frustration again.

I think I shall just step back from the game for a little while and see if they can fix it before I go any further and lose anything more.

You are extremely lucky if that is all you lost. About 23 hours ago we had just finished opening up a good portion of the Straits of Devastation, got the boss down at the Cathedral of Glorious Victory and moved on west to north west to the zone change to Malchor’s Leap.

When I finally got back into the game, I was dead way back at the Cathedral and way pointed to the only place I could – Rally Way Point.

Due to the game roll back, I lost all that explored area, and xp; not to mention all the loot as well as the pois, skill challenges and way points along the way. Not everyone in our group got dumped, there were at least 3 folks still in the game and never had a problem. Still have no idea what caused it but I was not happy.

It appears I also lost some of my daily achievements because of this as well and had to redo everything I had already accomplished. In cases like this I do wish Anet would reimburse us in some manner to compensate for this mess their server burp causes.

Twitter for Active GW2 Responses?

Given that the downtime was resolved within minutes on Monday evening with active responses from the community team via the @GuildWars2 twitter account, I’d say they’re well aware of the issues.

I do not understand why any communication that relates to issues that need responses or resolutions as quickly as possible are provided by Twitter. I do not have Twitter or any of those other social media accounts nor do I follow them.

These forums are the GW2 forums and this is where I come for information…so why don’t I see any critical information but a lot of folks pointing to Twitter?

Does not make sense to me to only have active responses on a third party outlet and not on official website.

Mouse Escaping Full Screen

I am always hopeful someone can use information I receive that helps me. Ironically, the Razer Naga Hex (green) mouse I just purchased had issues with the Synapse software for the profile settings.

Razer tech support actually has been in communication with me for the past 3-5 days trying to fix this since all profiles are saved on their own cloud server.

After uninstalling everything Razer and using an old HP mouse in the meantime, I downloaded and reinstalled their firmware (which apparently had been updated but I never got the update). Then downloaded and reinstalled the synapse software. However, I plugged my Razer back in before the synapse reinstall so that it could recognize it.

Boom…fixed my problem, finally. Also, because I had profiles that could not be adjusted, I finally able to delete the bad profile but recreate a good one without difficulty.

I do not use macros on my mouse but having the dodge roll on it helps a lot. But I also had the added confidence that whenever I had a problem with my mouse related to GW2, they were very prompt in helping me make sure my mouse was not causing the problem in game.

I was having issues and contacted my mouse manufacturer (Razer). This is the instruction I got back..perhaps something there might help you.

Try checking your usb
power settings. Follow the steps below
> * Right click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
> * Click on the Hardware tab.
> * Click the Device Manager button.
> * Click on the + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
> * Right click on any Root Hub and choose Properties.
> * Click the Power Management tab and make sure there is NO CHECK in “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”
> * Click the OK button and do this for each Root Hub.
> * Next, click on Start and Control Panel.
> * Double click on Power Options.
> * Click the Hibernation Tab and uncheck Enable hibernate support.

mouse appear in the device manager? Please check if the mouse is
detected there.

mouse losing ability to interact with world

This has been a consistent problem for the past several months. I even went so far as to replace my mouse and it still happened. I have no idea why, and I do not Alt+tab at all so that can’t cause it. But inexplicably every once in a while I am going along working my way through the territory when all of a sudden my mouse stops registering in the game.

Only fix I have found is to exit the game and in some cases, completely reboot my system. I am not alone in this, because a lot of my guild mates experience the exact same thing, so it cannot be our systems.

Successful Guild Rush Marked Failed

We did another guild rush last night and it worked ok, but we all sat until the timer ran out to make sure. Not that ANet would have done anything if it hadn’t worked.

So I am not sure if it is related, but when the first one did not give us credit, even though we completed it, we had all left (we finished within 10 minutes so we didn’t want to sit around for 20 minutes). Maybe staying for the timer to run out is necessary? I don’t know.

Sitting around waiting until the timer goes off should not be necessary if you got the “completion” notification.

This is totally ridiculous. Anet creates these guild rushes then when a bug is found refuses to fix it? Not very good planning or customer service as far as I can tell.

I might get an infraction for voicing my opinion here and this may get deleted. But for crying out loud, the response you received just is not a successful response to a game bug.

When I finally got back into the game, my character was back in front of the TP which was at least 5-10 minutes earlier than where she got kicked out. So it appears there was a roll back of sorts.

Don’t know if it was intentional but it certainly is a mess when you get thrown backward in time and lose whatever you gained in that short window of time.

One of our group members also lost some of his dailies. Since he joined us later and therefore, finished his dailies later than we did, it affected him that way as well.

It appears the login server for the game is not working. Funny but the error message I got says it most likely is a problem with a firewall, etc., however, when 5 people grouped for events on Dailies all of a sudden get booted to the desktop at the same time, it sounds more like the server is having the problem.

Yea…I noticed that. Any regularity to nodes apparently has been changed to combat botting as far as I can see. Except I still see those bots show up instantly at nodes and just as quickly disappear. Not enough time to catch a screen shot…they are gone by the time your screen shot button can even be pressed.

Character Models not loading properly in WvW

its still annoying. I see it all the time in LA and elsewhere in the world besides WvW.

So I do not see where anything was improved except now you can see all the enemy names running across the landscape in a vivid red wave without bodies until they get closer.

During our Thursday night WvWvW run, I had the pleasure of catching a amazing “floating” ballista shot.

I’ve been noticing a lot of weird graphics glitches lately and this is just one of the funnier ones. The guildie manning that equipment was actually standing directly under it.

Fortunately, in spite of its lighter-than-air mode, the ballista seemed to do quite well mechanically.

Infantile mode appears to be bugged at the moment. I am not overly fond of these types of jps so chose the Infantile Mode just to see what it was all about. I also chose this mode so that I would have less irritation than I figured I would receive doing those other ones.

What a mess. I got through the entire thing to the cage at the end…then nothing worked. The cage seemed to be permanently locked. I finished all but the last portion of the achievement because that darned cage would not open.

I fought that crazy thing on top of the cage and died twice since it bounced me off to the ground below. Gave up after the third try because it seemed fruitless.

So needless to say, not only did I not get the final completion for that Infantile Mode, I also did not receive my rewards for at least going through it.

Seems the ending is bugged so you cannot complete it at all.

I too am disappointed that the mystery chests disappeared after only a day or two. I went through the jp in Rata Sum just for kicks and giggles solo…taking the infant road.

Unfortunately, I just am not into fighting a bugged setup…so I left when at the end of the run, the cage seemed to be permanently locked.

If there were alternative ways to pick up those baubles, I would not have any issues, but with the chests gone now, I have no alternatives since I dislike those “mario brothers” types of jps.

I have no idea what changed in the last update but tonight I’ve been dumped to my desktop with one of those little “send message to Anet” boxes but NO error message. One moment I am running through WvW and the next moment the game is gone and that little white box is up.

I submitted the report as requested on the second time it happened because the first time the box disappeared before I could send the message. No error messages at all. Just all of a sudden I am looking at my desktop.

The game doesn’t seem to have any lag just prior to the dump, but I run on low graphics settings to prevent that.

I took the character screen shot AFTER I took the one showing me in LA. I left my character standing near the bank in LA but the image on the character screen shows it being in the mists, which is not accurate.

My Ranger, Myli Tealeaf, shows up on the Character Select Screen in pvp gear. She is not in the Mists. She is currently in LA and I’ve both screen shots to show this problem.

Decrease lag

No, not really, I’ve done some graphics work and so I know what the term means :P Whether I meant the technical term or the Arenanet-WvW term, either way you are drawing less stuff, I chose simple (admittedly ambiguous) words because I’m lazy.

server side culling (the server only tells you about xx objects because if we try send all relevant info to everyone, we might not have enough bandwidth to send all data and some clients might get no data at all) and client culling (the client doesn’t render stuff which you can’t see) are two different things.

Source for this? Otherwise I’m sticking with my theory. Habib made a post about the changes they were going to make to fix it a few months ago, and the only network change he mentioned was getting the higher-ups to approve using more. They were never anywhere near the cap.

i think we are speaking about the same post. i read it as “we don’t have enough upload bandwidth. to send all data to everyone we need more bandwidth. this will cost money as we need to upgrade our connection”

the culling used by anet was a cost saving measure to compensate for their insufficient bandwidth.

You are not wrong … Lettuce is. Habib’s post on culling clearly listed server-side network bandwidth as being one of the culprits, albeit one of the easiest to fix.

I think they are making money off this game, but what I do not understand is why they are not upgrading their equipment and bandwidth.

I was in WvW with guildies last night and it appears the culling issue was addressed, abeit a bit differently. We saw hundreds of red names running around (well it seemed like hundreds) but no bodies attached to them. ehhehehehe

But I did finally catch a screen shot of our small group and, guess what?, we have the same problem in a small group too. I think in this group we captured a point with maybe 20 or so guildies, plus a couple of other guild groups and all I saw closest to me were names, no bodies.

Unintended consequences I think.

Cannot turn off animal names now

Ever since this most recent patch, I cannot turn off all the darned animal names in the game. All I see are these names all over the place in red/yellow, etc., but all I can find is “turn off NPC names” listed with no option to turn off those animal names.

My screen is littered with red/yellow animal names all the time now. Never had this problem before the patch and I’ve checked all my settings.

Since this just started happening, I assume it is a bug. Please fix it. I don’t mind seeing the animal names close up to me, but across the zone? It looks like someone threw a bunch of red/yellow sticks all over the place, only the sticks are names.

Have to say, that’s the best response ever, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have helped everything – I’m on Aurora Glade and I can’t talk in Guild Chat at all. Re-logging, re-zoning, changing characters, standing down and re-representing, nothing works. So can you take another look at that cable and see if it’s come loose again please?

They need to use duck tape…that works on everything.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like everyone is having this problem, so it may be something caused by graphics settings or hardware. If you are having this problem, please provide a screenshot of your graphics settings and a DxDiag report so that we can try and find out what the common cause might be.

Every mesmer I ran with in WvW tonight had this problem so it is not isolated. Also, ran with a new mesmer level 12 afterwards and he had the same problem as well.

I could see it and it really looked odd. I do not believe it is related to any one’s graphic setup at all, since everyone I spoke with had different settings and graphic cards too.

Acheivement Error

Double check that you completed the first tier. There appears to be multiple tiers for each set of 10 or 20 items. I noticed this myself and thought it was bugged also, until I checked to see that there were multiple tiers involved.

So apparently there are a certain number for each tier to be completed.

Mesmer Illusionary Leap Bug Report

I have just started using some of these skills now that I’ve leveled my mesmer to 40. Pretty uninspiring to see things that should work, totally fail. But then there are a lot of other bugs in the game that, for some reason or other, Anet has not fixed or cannot fix due to their system constraints.

It really needs to be addressed since your game offers these things. If they cannot be fixed, either remove them entirely or provide something in their place…but leaving a broken skill as is, just is not a good move.

WvW and Right Click Context Menu

Our group has this problem all the time in WvWvW. Our fix is for the person who invited the player who left, to go to the Heart of the Mists, then use the remove request function in order to remove that player.

But as for inviting, we still have to type /invite player name in order to invite to group. Gets old pretty fast.

Several Bugged events in Bloodtide Coast

Sigh, ANOTHER bugged event in Bloodtide.
This time it’s “Help maintain order in Moriarity’s Hold.” None of the knocked-out privateers can be roused with water, and some of them are lying in midair

Whenever I have taken any of my characters through that area, none of the knocked-out privateers are ever able to be revived w/water. I just gave up trying (I have 4 toons who have done this one) and did alternative actions to get the event finished.

Rather frustrating to find all these bugs in the game that have not been fixed yet. Or, if they ever were fixed, broken again. I would much prefer bug fixes to new content at this point.

Nvida drivers 314.07 SLI

The last time I updated my drivers, I had problems for about 10 days before contacting nVidia help. The technician walked me through the clean install process but before I could do that, he said I needed to have my own technician do a diagnostic to make sure my registry was not clogged up and to remove all my old drivers.

Good advice so I shall just contact my technician to make sure I have no problems hanging.

Reward for region completion

Suggestion: Make gear/weapon rewards for region completion something that character can actually use.

I have gotten rewards for completing regions all through out the game. Unfortunately, any gear I have received my character is unable to use.

My Ranger got heavy gear but she wears medium. She also got a gun which she cannot use nor was she able to use the focus that dropped from one reward.

I understand the loot tables are random but the zone completion reward really should not be random.

Moorwatch Tower Vista Bug[Merged]

Seems like this particular vista/event is constantly being broken. I’ve seen it working only to come back with another character a day later and not be able to interact with it at all.

I do wish the devs would just do something to make it work on a regular basis. From some of the earlier posts I saw I think it is connected to other events in the region, but not sure.

Creature Spawn Rate

ugh…Fireheart Rise. I really despise that area so I do not go there unless I absolutely have to.

I have one character that actually completed the zone there but don’t plan to do it with any of my other characters any time soon.

I do agree that the mobs there just seem to be setup in such a way you have a hard time weaving through them without entering one or the other’s aggro radius. It took me a while to get through one field of fire mobs because of this.

Mining and then disappearing ore nodes?

I have noticed that I can mine the Ori nodes only once a day per character. Most other metal nodes I do not have this problem with and some of those seem to reappear within a few hours.

I have three 80 level characters and use them to harvest materials for me. I have timed the harvesting I do to late evening after the reset timer. This way I can actually accomplish some of my dailies if harvesting is included that day.

However, one notable exception seems to be ancient wood. I believe I’ve seen it twice in one 24 hour period on each character if I happen to run across the same node earlier in the day.

Boulders floating in mid-air

I was doing my dailies and went to the Western Divinity Dam in Queensdale. As I ran across the dam, I noticed there were some boulders just “hanging out” there. One actually looked like it might be embedded in a wood cross plank but the other definitely was just floating out in mid-air.

I remember seeing a lot more of these floating items back at launch and thought they had been fixed, but it looks as though these two got missed entirely…or recent patches just reintroduced them.

Actually, having the game recognize someone actually participated to the end only to get dumped from the game due to technical issues, could effectively apply to all major fights where this occurs.

Frequently I see this happen on dragon fights and, in some cases, the new guild competition setup. We’ve had several of our guild members lose out on the rewards for taking part in the guild events due to being dumped from the game just as the npc dies.

By the time they get back into the game they have missed the reward entirely because the game does not recognize that they actually participated enough to earn said reward.

I agree, this probably would not be a good idea. I also believe it would be prohibitively expensive to implement fairly.

Currently, I just do a few enemy kills or an event or harvest items that I immediately sell which gives me back the cost of my way point fees.

An as for the repair fees, those seem to also be tied to the way point fee you have to pay to rez, but you don’t always find a repair npc available at the nearest way point after dying.

If there was only a repair fee involved in defeat and not the combination of way point and repair needed, I would just consider that the cost of doing business.

Most other games have some sort or “repair” fee involved though no fee to get rezzed that I can recall. Heck, even in some games you can just soul walk or choose full health at the grave yard (for a small fee just like the repair) if you die.

I also feel that Anet could fix a lot of issues with the game where folks were not seeing the Karkas until they were already downed by them (culling); folks having disconnect problems due to the game kicking them out during the fight for one reason or another.

Personally, I was kicked out of this fight half way through by my game client just popping closed and I was looking at my desktop. It took me a bit to get back into the game since I also had to reboot my pc because the game problem caused my pc to freeze up.

However, I was able to get back into the fight soon enough and did manage to help rez folks and continue the fight to the end where I received the chest reward.

I feel sorry for those folks who reached the end only to not get the chest reward because their game froze up or kicked them out before the chest became available. Perhaps Anet can figure out a way that any character that participates in these fights and gets dumped before the chest spawns, actually can still get the chest when they are able to log back into the game.

Perhaps the programmers can figure out a way to set it up so that your participation is registered accurately, especially in this instance, so that it sees you did earn that reward and provide the chest upon re-entering the game after the dump.

Put Heroes back into the game!

Putting Heros into this game will make it feel more like SWTOR. I played that for a while and used a companion who was like having a hero at your side. Soloing it was fine, but never worked in instances very well because you really needed a live player group for those.

Right now my Ranger has her “heros” in her combat pets and its iffy on how well they do. I’ve learned to just deal with the pet running off to deal with that enemy across the zone while needing him at my side to deal with the enemy right in front of me.

So, in my personal opinion, I really do not see the need for a hero at my side.

Annoying Sound Bug

Regardless of what is causing this problem, we should not have to manipulate our files just to get the bug to go away. This points to an inherent problem with how the game has been programmed.

I think this is a problem the developers inadvertently created during the programming process and did not know it happens until we, the players, started complaining about it.

I do think they may find what is causing it in the end, but it may take them months to figure out and then apply a fix for it.
