The dagger and sword skin, and.. maybe the shield were the only ones that stuck out to me. I ended up getting the dagger since I’m not overly fond of incinerator.

I might eventually get the warhorn too.

Black Wings, bad purchase

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mXz.4512

@ Op, as others have already pointed out…

- Don’t buy the backpeice or w/e from the gemstore without previewing it first, it’ll save you the headache. (Right-click on item to see the option)

- You can’t dye other back pieces in-game, and you never could. And they are not part of your character’s body, so obviously the won’t flap – simply move according to your movements.

- See what was said above and repeatedly throughout this topic
(cannot dye back pieces)

- The devs already made dyes account wide, dying parts of armors/outfits have always been free. How else are they supposed to make money to push out newer/better/quality items if everything has to be free? Put yourself in their shoes and think of it from a marketing standpoint before complaining about it all.

- Also flying has never been in this game, the closest thing if free falling, or gliding which will be introduced in the expansion. And flying would pretty much make map travel pointless, sure the view would be nice but.. just no.

- Lastly, as mentioned early on.. the wings are the missing part of the Raiment of the Lich costume. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
The devs didn’t throw this out on the gemstore just for the heck of it. People wanted and repeatedly asked for the black wings to finish the costume, and it’s what they got. If you were ever curious about how it would look on any of your characters, go back to the top of this post (preview).

Heart Quests Need Looking At

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I know one heart that matches the OP’s description perfectly is the (level 19) heart NE at The Wendon Steps in Brisban Wilds. I felt I was constantly waiting around for bandits to spawn and “steal” Seraph supplies. And if there wasn’t any big event going on, it seemed like it took 40 seconds or so just for each bandit to spawn only to finish that heart.

I’d like to suggest this one gets an increased mob spawn rate if possible.

Aside from the ones already listed, this one in particular just had me twiddling my thumbs just trying finish.

New to game .

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mXz.4512

A few suggestions would be:
- Upgrade your gear so you aren’t overwhelmed with the higher end areas. But don’t spend too much, if something is out of your price range – just gather materials and save for it. What this game and a lot of other mmo’s do is make it a progression to keep your character outfitted and current.

(Ask around or look for guides peoples made for certain classes/builds)

- Another and one of the most important, just play how you want to and don’t let anyone else tell you how you should play.

- There’s a lot of things to do, but for newcomers, finding a suitable guild might be helpful unless you’re the lone wolf kinda player. As far as content, there’s dungeons, pvp, wvw, LS, fractals (tutoring recommended) and clearing maps/JPs.

- This game is over all centered around cosmetics and personal look customization of your character. Unless you don’t really care, then there’s outfits.

But I think you could get the most help and explanation while being in a decent guild.

mXz.4512

The way I started was, I first started off playing as a warrior. At that time I thought it was pretty bland and there weren’t any of the features back then that you see now.

So it was really on a matter of time till I deleted it. Then I attempted to make an ele, this was more difficult as others around the forums will point out compared to the warrior which I was able to get to 80 without much problem. The highest level I was able to get this ele before losing interest was around mid 40’s.

The third class I tried was the mesmer, which to this day is my main. It was a completely different spin compared to the first 2 classes. And at first it was iffy, and there were nerfs (/cough balances) that kinda upset me. But I adapted and saw it was still pretty fun to play. This mesmer was quickly followed by a guardian which I had to grind my teeth to level up.

After that, I was looking for something more “different”. So I gave the engi a playthrough. And it was quite different, but I loved it. It wasn’t anything ridiculously OP or anything, it felt subtle. Going through all the levels did get kinda grind-some, but after 80 and experimenting with some builds it was worth making.

A few other classes followed shortly after, but I’ve always had the hardest time trying out the necro. I have every other class so far.
_______
I’d suggest just trying each class, spicing things up instead of doing the typical – up in your face hack ’n slash tactics – kiting bosses (with melee weps), using utilities in some of your fights and such.
_______
The warrior got boring really quickly compared to the mesmer or engineer. The warrior throws the greatsword, and it acts like a boomerang. If the mesmer throws the greatsword, it summons a phantasmal berserker to do whirlwind attacks and you can have up to 3x clones or phantasms to attack for you, not as much damage though.

The engineer, you primarily depend on kits. Utility kits, grenade/bomb kits, turret kits or just the old pistol/shield or rifle. What drew me into this class were the bomb/grenade kits, but I did see uses for each skill and got more used to playing it over time.

Just my experience and take on the classes I’ve made. It’s all depending on your play style so best suggestion is to try each class, and see what appeals more to you. It may take some time to find that right class though, I can assure you. But once you do, you’ll likely feel it was worth it.

And cosmetics make it seem all worth it once you’re 80 with that character/class.

disabling gems -> gold conversion

mXz.4512

I’ve been thinking about this one a little and the only ones I am having issues not finding method of payment for are wvw. One can pay gold to others for dungeon runs. One can pay pvp teams to carry them or pay for custom arenas. One can pay to be run through fractals. One can pay gold to bypass most timegates as well. I just can’t really think of how to pay for a wvw skin aside from paying to transfer to be on winning servers for rewards that are distributed. Idk…there’s probably someway. As they say “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”.

If that’s the case, why even bother playing if you’re going to depend on just about everyone to cradle you through nearly every aspect of the game?

And those are only indirect ways to acquire them. Getting all those skins directly by buying gems > converting to gold > going to x vendor is very much impossible. Fractal wep skins has no such vendor, and all others require indirect means.

Lastly, unless one could successfully convince Anet to re-release discontinued skins (bunny ears, aviator glasses, wide rim glasses, tequatl wings, shattered wings, ect); that’s just pointing out even more how false “the statement” is.

You can obtain EVERY single item via gold.

Stat-wise, nearly all items, some are time gated (ascended -> laurels/guild commendation). As for skins, you definitely cannot get them all simply with gold. Fractals, Wvw, Pvp, dungeon and boss/event skins are all barred from using gold to acquire them.

“Shortcuts?” Are you aware that some of us who play this game have jobs? Not everybody has unlimited time to dump into the game. Cash shops have always been a good means of evening out the playing field for people who don’t have much time but do have money to spare, a.k.a. “working adults.”

Pretty much this. Some of us have other things that we have to do during the day, like get paid, feed pets, feed the family, etc.

And doing this would cut one of Anet’s main sources of income/funding for this game.

Even though there’s some skins I’d really like to have, I still don’t agree they should be tradeable.

They’re exclusive content skins, they’re not handouts like some others. And they look better than most so if you want ’em gotta do the content like everyone else who got theirs.

At just ~170 or so fractals 2 days ago, I randomly got my first skin a fractal shortbow. I wasn’t too hyped about it, but I wasn’t upset either because I definitely don’t ever plan on making The Dreamer or Kudzu.

Right now I’m working towards my backpeice and if I get random dropped skins or nice infused rings, then it’s a solid bonus. Rather than being bored of the necessary grind
(if you want the skins) – think of it more as a long term goal and if you don’t expect much, getting what you don’t expect to turns out to be a nice surprise.

Why does everything being used to traverse, whether it be land, water or air have to be referred to as a mount? Would a parachute/sled/snowboard or surfboard be considered a mount too?

I’m tired of people constantly griping about how ‘poor’ of a mount something is. If it was intended as a mount, they’d say so. Otherwise take it for what it is, merely a tool to get to your destination or to keep you from turning into a pile of blood and bones on the ground.

Mounts are more animated (like a horse or something with flapping wings), what is animated about a hang-glider besides drifting downwards from a higher elevation?

And as mentioned countless times already, this game doesn’t need them.

My asura and charr females are very happy without ridiculous-looking human-culture-specific female-with-prominent-breasts clothes, thank you very much.

Unisex for all, or nothing. I am 100% against more skins with boob windows on boobless species.

Reading the OP’s entire post, I didn’t see anything about the OP specifically stating they wanted ‘armor showing cleavage’ or concerning the breasts at all. Merely a difference in appearance from the male gender.

You know.. like smaller sized shoulder pauldrons, lighter/thinner armor frame, etc. Something to make you less inclined to think an asura or what have you (that might happen to have a similar appearance as a male of that species) might possibly be a male.

Since when was personalization for any race frowned upon? And before anyone brings up clipping issues, there’s countless of those already. So I don’t see why this is such a black and white issue.

Legendary Help

If you’re thinking of making a legendary for your engi, I’d wait till the expansion comes out. Also, it may be best to choose a legendary that’s a common weapon among each/most of your characters.

For me, it was Mesmer (main), followed by Guard/Warr, then Engi, Ele, Ranger, Thief.
I made Eternity first, then went for Bolt and Moot. I’m trying to save for Kamohoali’i Kotaki (shark spear) and possibly Bifrost.

As engi’s are getting hammers in the expansion, I’d wait it out unless you’re intent on having one sometime before then.

Dare I ask…just how loud are you playing this game? 8-0 I’m kinda going deaf just thinking about it!

OTOH…as one of those likely guilty of same…I shall out of deference to all the above and those they represent…move someplace else. Definitely not necessary to do it in public!

On a day off, I’ll have it set fairly low. But after working all day hearing beepers/alarms/shouting, it takes time to hear anything at lower volumes. I do have a bomb happy engi, but I also have 7 other toons to swap with.

I just move out if I’m about to use those, simply out of courtesy as I’m sure I’m not the only one who wouldn’t wanna be randomly blasted by a stack of tomes or scrolls.

It does bother me as well when it strobes, same way ceiling fans or swishing drake tails do. When I’m clicking the scrolls I make a point of moving away from the immediate bank area.

But it’s far more tolerable than the spammed high bell note we used to get. Perhaps that’s because people using the scrolls are doing it to use them, not to deliberately annoy. Also it’s such a cheerful and triumphant glow and isn’t a painful sound (to me).

Same, I atleast go to a less populated or secluded area before using those in mass numbers. The light doesn’t bother me as much as the sound though since I have the bank/tp window blocking it out.

I’m bringing this up because those of us that have to take a few minutes at the bank shouldn’t have to move somewhere else or endure it when someone’s trying to get to 80 or whatever level asap.

Nor should we have to lower or sound settings just because some people choose to be inconsiderate of others. The sound should/could be toned down a bit (IMO) since that’s the most annoying part of it. But by the time you finally mute or lower your sound they’re done.. so yea, it’d be nice if the sound was reduced some.

Unlimited Harveting Tool Trade-In Vendor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mXz.4512

mXz.4512

I’d like them to start making more and more tools and change them to account wide so I can have a copy on every single character (so they are selling skins vs the tool, per se) – such a hassle having to swap them around. Make more special tools like the frostbitten / watchwork tools for even more incentive to buy new “skins” that have a chance to get you something extra – don’t care just make them account wide!

Can you imagine the uproar from the crowd that has bought a set for every single one of their characters? Account wide is not going to happen, if you want a set for each of your characters you’ll have to purchase them or continue swapping. Nor is dividing them into tools, skins and bonuses going to happen…not after all this time.

^
Yep, I doubt anet would want another backlash after something like this when so many people, myself included has paid for each tool. Nor would they want to have to refund so many people. It’d be a big mess.

They’re atleast account-bound now, so if you need a set to use, take it from the character that isn’t using it. It’s better than it was before when they were all soulbound.

PVE Dailies- lack of choice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mXz.4512

mXz.4512

I too think there’s lack of choice now.

In the PVE daily tab (if you finish 3, you get a chest)
- (Area) ore miner/lumberer > this used to be generalized as “Gatherer” where you could mine, cut lumber, harvest veggies anywhere.
- Daily Shatterer or some other world boss – Before you had daily Champion or Vet Slayer, it didn’t matter where you killed them – you still got it.
- Daily Exotic Crafter – Before it wasn’t specific to exotic crafting

So yea, it’s more narrowed down to a specific area and less to choose from.
And I also hate wasting 1hour 30mins just to wait to get the daily Maw in Wayfarer Foothills which also now is a giant zergfest when I could be knocking out a combo of the dailies as I go. Before this update, you ported into a map and you saw people running parts of the map in groups mining, taking down a boss or whatever daily they were on. With the lack of choice now, it’s a giant crowd of wait 20 minutes for x boss.

Also, daily vista.. I prefer daily puzzle jumper.

I also wouldn’t mind doing a daily scavenger hunt – say perhaps during that reset, you have specific items or checkpoints popup which led to a double chest or double/triple boss fight. Just something different to be slightly challenging/involved.

TLDR, more choices like before because it’s been noticeably cut short or too specific.

I agree, I still think changing all the purchased town clothing into tonics, especially the ones we bought from the gemstore was a real deal breaker.

If I didn’t think it was too late to submit a rollback ticket to change it back, I would.

Just think of something that’s pleasing for now, because you’ll eventually get the urge to change it (name change contract). I change names every few to several months and looks nearly every few weeks to each month.

On this game its hard staying with one look or name for any long period of time.
But choose out a theme you think stands out the most and go by that, usually how I go about it.

A particular name I thought was funny was Wrong Clone, but I like names with an elegant ring to ’em too.

Nope. I check every couple days to see what I can get with laurels and the torch isn’t on any of the tabs.

Not that I need it, I already have it along with the souvenir balloon from the Queens Jubilee event, but it’s definitely not sold from the laurel vendor.
