Once I had a match vs 3 medi guards and 2 turret engis.
It was not fun.

I don’t get how it hurts pure PvP players? If literally all you did was PvP before, you can still do that. You’re getting more things that allow you to PvE/WvW if you choose to, but nothing forces you to. They remove barriers and you’re making it sound like it’s a bad thing. PvP players can make gold now, can actually level a character to 80 if they want to but nothing is forcing you.
See, this is what I said you were going to say. Your position is not very empathetic because you neglect to consider what it is that a PvP player wants above all else. Recognition. Exlusive SOMETHING. Exlusive armor? Exlusive dyes? Exclusive weapons? PvE has those things but people still complain that PvP has something that they want and that they feel “forced” to PvP.
The new system is nice and all, but it caters only to people who were PvX in the first place. PvErs resent it, and PvPers have stacks of loot boxes sitting around for when they finally go through the chore of opening them under ideal magic find circumstances or just destroy that stuff altogether.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
I don’t really see how it encouraged people to leave. I think they were a little late on fixing how poor PvP rewards are but the new rewards encourage me to PvP more. I was a PvX player but played quite a bit of PvP and it was just depressing playing for next to nothing. Now I can play PvP and not feel like I’m missing out because I can still get gear/levels/etc from PvP.
You like it because you were never a pure pvp player. I don’t think there’s any of those left anymore, but those are the people I was talking about. You know, the ones with nothing higher than level 10. As one of those players, all this system does is remove barriers to pve/wvw content that you couldn’t experience before since you were level 10.
As a PvX it’s easy to love this system because it gives you pve rewards – things that you’re going to use in your other gameplay.

I think this PvP system is pretty spot on in terms of design/rewards.
The way I feel, and I think many others do as well, is that pvp rewards were only introduced in an effort to transition people out of pvp. Before the wardrobe merges and tome of knowledge spam you would just have the level 1 or 2 character that you made on release and just be stuck there. Now all of a sudden you have sets of exotic equipment and a level 80, so you can feel encouraged to leave the mists and never come back.
That’s better than what pvp had (only account bound dyes) but it’s also not really what a pvper would want. A pvper would want an exclusive reward, but then you’d just get pvers complaining about that because they would “feel like [they] HAVE to pvp” in order to acquire it so anet would never actually do that. As it is, there are 3 exclusive armor sets from the old pvp system and THERE ARE STILL threads on reddit complaining about it every week.

Oh god, you’re not serious are you?
Every line on there reeks of “omg stop ruining my games!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are so noob I could be top of ladder if you follow these 3 simple steps! Ladder farmers hate me!”
People that would look at this guide with that kind of mindset I don’t want them to play pvp because they are not interested in getting better they are interested in finding perceived slights in everything. PVP would be a lot better in this game if people got less defensive and wanted to learn more. There is good info here regardless of what you want to read into his tone. I guess some jolly idiot post with useless info would be a-ok if it was written with the tone that everyone was a special snow flake to be treated with special care at all times like the finest china.
If you’ve seen OPs history then you’d know that they are an accomplished complainer. Entire threads of screenshots devoted to showing how matchmaking isn’t working. With that knowledge, it’s easy to pick up on OPs disdain for other players who are trying to gather experience. The tone is especially bothersome when OP suggests that it should be stickied so that new players can see it. Those are the exact people you don’t want seeing the video since the first minute just tells them that they are a burden to other players.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a post in a few months saying “People still aren’t experts. It’s a pity you didn’t sticky my guide! Here it is for anyone who missed it!”

There isn’t a single solution for this ever! For example, it would be possible to have MAP CHANGES as a trigger for being removed from queue, rather than being STUCK IN THE MISTS FOREVER. It is truly terrible that there isn’t a solution in sight!

Have you seen the reward tracks? They are nothing but ways to get pvpers to quit pvp and do other game modes. Before you’d have a bunch of lvl 2 pvpers, now all of a sudden they’re 80 with a bunch of exotic gear. Time to leave pvp!

Better to be arrogant, than assume things are always obvious for everyone.
Then I’m going to start making some assumptions about you.
MMR probably has all of this, but we just have low population problems so it doesn’t help make matches all that much better. We also don’t know if there’s a correlation between ladder rank and mmr, but there probably isn’t.

I explained above why it makes no sense – having them still there already makes the engineer weaker, and the turrets less efficient in their purpose of protecting the area (as the engineer can’t use overcharges properly if he doesn’t know what’s going on).
It’s hilarious that everyone who says ltp about turret engis can also only fathom being played by idiots. You can use things like teamwork or minimaps in order to make decisions about using your overcharges. You can also just keep a rocket turret somewhere in order to let your ally have a much easier time doing 1v1s. Being down 1 turret makes you weaker, but the point was also that you would greatly help two places on the map.
To be honest, I wonder if having a trait for reduced cooldown on picked up turrets would be enough to make people happy. I don’t think the turret engi should be punished for wanting to move around, and I also don’t know what I would even choose as a leash range.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
The build is designed to bunker anyways, so they should be always close to the turrets.
That was my real problem with turret engi. If you leave a rocket turret at home then it can pretty much win a 1v1 for whoever shows up at that point and the actual engi can be somewhere else being useful.
See these are the kinds of people who complain about turret Engis! They think people lose 1v1 to an AI Rocket Turret and they think that an Engineer being elsewhere without any utilities spamming Hip Shot is useful! Why can’t everyone just quit qqing and get good!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
I don’t see how helping an ally with 1 utility and using 2 others somewhere else = no utilites. I guess this is why I’m drooling with my pants on my head.

Allowing more stat customization in PvP? It limits build options and is a major reason why people, especially WvW’ers don’t like PvP.
That’s because flexibility on stats makes a lot of really broken stuff viable. WvW also uses bonus broken things like condi duration food.

Looking at the ladder, it looks like it’s more about the number of matches played, not quality.
But I’m no expert.
It’s worth noting that while ladder ranking is affected purely by the number of matches played, mmr is not. However, that was not the question. If you could be so kind as to forcibly remove your kitten from your kittenhole, that`d be great.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
Getting pretty salty because I’m not even top 900 and I was queued against 5gauge like 243532 times in a row a couple days ago and the matchup luck really hasn’t felt like it’s improved since. I’m not good and the ladder rank reflects that but I wonder if the mmr doesn’t.

Dailies need to disappear from sPvP.
But that will make the pvers happy!
I do a lot of PvE too and I still think adding dailies to sPvP has to be one of the worst ideas ever.
Have you seen how asspained pvers get about pvp having any rewards? They cry about 3 mediocre armor skins being exclusive to pvp and feeling like they HAVE to do pvp dailies. There’s multiple daily threads on reddit about exactly that and it’s pretty sad to read. Moreover, you constantly have people talk about how they hope the new pvp game mode will use pve armor. Yep.

If there was a bracket’d AT’s that had —>REAL<-- rewards, and not the BS reward tracks, that PvPer’s just throw away because it takes up so much inventory space
You have 8 minutes of queue time between matches. Salvage the 2 items it gives you and BOOM DONE. How do you feel so overwhelmed by the reward tracks?
Also, what “real” reward do you want? Do you have any real suggestions or did you neglect to realize that this isn’t being posted to your tumblr where 1500 people will just say “OMFG THIS. THIS. IT’S JUST I CAN’T EVEN. THIS.”

Axe auto attack on my soldier’s stat bunker warrior does it just fine and, I’m pretty sure, in less then 30 seconds.

The problem is, they balance the game around 5v5
Isn’t this a specious argument?
I would’ve thought that they balance with conquest as a game mode in mind. Yes, conquest is 5v5 but they also have to consider how things play out in XvX situations. Some things were nerfed because they would 1v1 too hard, and others were nerfed because they could 1v2 too hard. 2v2s and 3v3s happen in conquest all the time, so to say that they don’t consider those is probably (definitely) wrong.

Again: The ladder has nothing to do with ‘who is a better player’.
With the given data (number of wins, losses and ladder points) we have no option to see who the better player is. There are too many possibilities how you ended up with the specific number of ladder points.
If buddy gets the same number of points through a better win percentage then it means that person is actually earning more points per match. This is how I came to the question.

Tpvp are about survivability and cooperation for me (and I hope that for a lot of us). It isn’t all only about doing the highest dmg, at least in tPvP not.
At 1:30 you are at full hp and are running to high ground. During this time your necro ally has feared a guardian – which you could have instantly killed. Instead you give the guardian a huge opportunity to survive by actually leaving the point and not looking at anything. More often than not, that extremely conservative decision kill meow your kittenbox into a purr purr purr. Doesn’t look like good teamwork to me.

Buddy: 46w – 21l with 45 ladder points
Is this data suggesting that person is a better player than buddy?

What’s dumb is that you gain the same number of points after a match if you’re 1st on the leaderboard or 50%.

In games which aren’t complete stomps it’s not very informative, because you can miss out on points by letting people bleed out or by disengaging after a fight is mostly won in order to go defend something. On the other hand, you get some games where you lose 500-100 but one guy has more points than everyone else on his team combined.

They should just add some voice program into ranked arena. It will give a chance for pugs to win against full premade.
The best group I ever played with didn’t use voip. Strategy in the game is honestly not that hard, and you can take the .02 seconds it takes to say “2 home” or “going far”. Positional strategy in gw2 is essentially arithmetic. The only time you need voip is for critical info during a fight, but pugs aren’t going to do that anyway when they could be busy flaming you in real time.
For me, queuing with just 1 other person was enough to dramatically improve the average quality of matches.

Combat is difficult to read. There are:
- Big flashes
- Small character models
- Summons
- So many summons
- Stealth
- Like I was just casting churning earth and the other team couldn’t even see it cause of all the engi nonsense that was happening on the point
I don’t think there’s point to fixing any other problems the game has apart from being allowed to veto skyhammer.
Oh, and classes don’t have any defined roles which means that you can’t balance anything based on the effect it has in game since all classes do everything. For example: “we’re having a problem with condi classes” “like….? all of them?”
