Guys, the matchmaker is doing the best he can. You can’t just expect anet to write code and put this guy out on the streets.
Have a heart.
The valiant white knight rides into the fray!
Except I said that there is no matchmaking system, but a matchmaker that works 24/7 while being doped up on amphetamines just so we can get matches.

How’s this for an idea:
Instead of having a matchmaker, have a matchmaking system in place. It’s cruel to have one person bear the responsibility of effectively making teams from people in queue, and when he goes for his smoke breaks we’re just left hanging. Come on, Anet.
Honestly though, this actually explains everything. When he feels pressured for time he just drags the top 5 mmr onto one team, and the next 5 onto another team. Sometimes he forgets to check if a player is still online which causes 4v5.

The problem with cast bars, is that they’ll either clutter the screen with bars
The best solution is to normalize the models.
The only reason there would be clutter is because anet has the camera too close to the character. Reason unknown.
Normalizing the model only addresses the asura problem, and not the fact that combat is already difficult to read unless someone is using a hammer.

JQ is the best mode for transfer.
FA is similar to the PvDoor gameplay of wvw, and gvg cannot be done in gw2 without changing the npcs significantly.

i’ve been talking about this since release.
if i remember correctly it was in gw
The big thing that was in gw1 was a “target nearest” that actually worked

Don’t forget Anet, designed it to have minimal choice. So that their job could be easier.
Seems like they had a easier time with GW1.
Because in gw2 the burden of balance falls entirely upon the developer, meanwhile gw1 was a somewhat self regulating system.

So Archer I ask you this.. Would setting up a state of the (all professions) thread in spvp, wvw, and pve forums be a better solution? To keep things separated and onto the point. Maybe doing it this way would keep things more organized, and would appeal to these certain sections of players. Posts like Jumpers “Thief- IMO” would be expected and maybe we could give them an idea as to what we want as a community instead of complaining about mods.
Anet knows what our opinions are (things like RNG IS BAD) and they keep in touch with the top players. I can only imagine that they talk to them so that they have something to do the opposite of.

Downed-state is the best feature in pvp togethe with dodging….
The only reason downed state is even in the game is so that people can still cry about not being healed by their team, and so that rangers can be invincible underwater.

threads like these come up everytime some mini game is out. you’re just saying that because its new.
Superior map visibility (have you tried looking outside of henge?)
Classes are balanced (heh)
Jump capability is effectively used for map movement
Spectator friendly
Easy to learn, but still has some dodge related mind games allowing for a skill ceiling.
Positioning is more varied than “in the kittenfest” and “not in the kittenfest” (thanks, nodes)
????
These sound like aspects that should be introduced in spvp map design and balance.

mhmm… maybe thats a hint that it’s already coming this month with the next PvP-Patch?
We already have our PvP Patch.
Dragon arena is way more viewer and noob friendly than spvp. It takes advantage of the fact that you can actually jump in this game, the map has good visibility, and all the classes are balanced. You can even make huge juke plays if your control is good enough to go for weird jumps, and there’s no invis.
The autoattack upgrade is a little too necessary, but it’s easily accessible so it’s probably not a huge issue.
Boom
Game fixed.

the devs had a few serious mental issues around making a game (like pride &/or ego &/or stupidity, exc.). I mean, if true, that blarb you wrote is outright depressing.
I don’t think it was necessarily ego, I think it’s just hard to see straight about something you’re passionate about. I’m sure there’s reasons which don’t stem from contempt or malicious intent.

If Anet spent as much time contemplating Gw2, we’d have a completely different game.
Hindsight is 20/20, but yeah I would have killed to get into the game’s alpha testing.
I like you, but here’s a reality check.
In alpha there was a guy, Ensign, who has unparalleled insight into this game / everything. At minimum, he is at least as smart / insightful as you – though I would consider this to be an insultingly conservative estimate. He was a huge pvp figure in gw1, it was often joked that one of the top guilds was just him on 8 computers.
Ensign was in the alpha, well respected by all the players, and gave anet buckets upon buckets of great suggestions and analysis. Ensign was later kicked out of the alpha for being a negative influence since everyone agreed with what he wrote (you know, because it made sense). It wouldn’t matter if you were in alpha because the devs would never tell you anything more than “Yeah we’ll take that into consideration, cya”
As a player you have no influence over design, the best thing you can hope for is whatever our boy Grouch is doing behind the scenes to try and make things better.

wouldn’t it defeat the purpose of stealth if you could maintain target lock through stealth?
Maybe not through stealth, but going invis for .5s then making 10 clones and me and my stupid clumsy fingers can’t click on you again results in many deaths. I’d like to be able to just press my target hotkey when you come out of invis.

I think it’s good; it gives /rank a method of showing off because these ranks are not easily gained.
You don`t get it.
If there was a way to get massive glory via unquestionable demonstration of skill, then yes. As it is now, tournaments are commonly accepted as a better indicator of skill, but it gives far less glory than hotjoining. Praise your hotjoin farming overlords.

Some of those “Level 1”s could easily be rerolls on a second account. And the actual player would be much higher.
It doesn`t take more than 3 matches to get to level 2 so that either means they won a match and got catapulted to premade mmr, or the game has a tiny population. The latter is more likely.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
long cooldown full strips better suit gw2 though imo.
This means you need a skill which says “regeneration can’t be applied to target for 15 seconds.”
I’d like to point out that conditions and boons get applied so frequently in gw2 that your statement is intellectually bankrupt.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
Should also mention that the progression through a conquest match is not very…tangible? The win condition doesn’t always feel related to performance. Some matches you’re on one point, but killing them nonstop. Your intuition will tell you that this meant you were doing good things, but the reality is that they held 2 points and are now ahead. If you fall behind there aren’t a lot of options available to you, and it generally boils down to “hold 2 points for the rest of the game and hope the points catch up.”
Map design is a huge problem, but not in just the way you mentioned. On points like henge, you don’t know if someone is on it unless you’re standing on it as well. You can’t see in or out of this point, which means you can’t tell if a second person is coming to attack you until they’ve hit you with a bunch of buttons. This obtrusive design also means that if you want to decap henge, you have to walk pretty far towards it to even see if there’s someone guarding it. There’s an added problem on points like this with stealth, if you decide to be a big boy and move more than spell range away from the point it’s going get decapped.

And so the list of reasons why there should be a -1 button grew longer still.

Why does it even matter? Shouldn’t “YOU” play good enough to reach top 100 and take them out of it?
cant bring them down if they never play anymore.
It doesn’t take many wins to hit top 100, but they do have to be consecutive or a loss will knock you down a couple hundred ranks.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
The eyes have this weird balance where they’re not far out enough to see the entire fight, but they also have far diminished detail compared to following a specific character.
For the time being I’ve found the best camera experience to be switching to focused characters during fights, and using eyes for showing team movement only.

Certain classes excel on certain maps. Thieves excel on Khylo because they can blink up to the wooden platforms or even the clocktower roof from the ground allowing superior positioning. Mesmers are the best class to have on treb in Khylo because they can repair it in seconds with portal. Rangers excel on Temple because they can take advantage of the side point chokepoints with traps.
I have many friends that pvp that change their class based on map because it brings an advantage, even if it’s just a slight one.
Thieves that know where all the supercool shadowstep locations are have good mobility on every map.
Mesmers (and portals) are good on every map, especially if you’re running a bunker.
Temple has two approaches to side points.
Rangers with traps are good on all maps because of how node capturing works.
I have many friends in pvp that just invite whoever happens to be online, regardless of map.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
or it will make people run balanced comps instead of cheese setups only good for that map.
Can you please give me an example of this?
Far as I can tell, the idea that people change their classes from map to map is a total lie.
People play based on preference and as a result they only gain experience with one class – so they stick to it no matter what.

I have tryed to do so, but failed to gain exactly the same spvp berserker stats.

Mabye you had problems with A-Net servers before. Otherwise it’s either your internet connection or australia itself (if other australian players have connection-issues too).
If I remember correctly, it was impossible for a Canadian to have less than 150 ping when playing gvg. Big boys like Jatt even changed providers in order to go from 200-250 to 150-200.
Compare this to HoN where I get sub 150 ping in EU and safely under 100 ping in US.

Edit: Or another idea: Make it so the Ele gets knocked down for a few seconds if using Ride the Lighting without target.
Interesting one!
Yes! It would be very interesting to see how s/d eles do when they use their only mobility skill outside of utilities to get away from an enemy!
If you want to limit a skill from being used in more than one way, you should just nerf the effectiveness in the undesired uses instead of actively punishing them.

Well, admittedly the glory to anything conversion rate would probably be kitten all though.
It would only be bad because players spent all this time accumulating it since there was nothing to use it on. Anet “economists” would make their decision based on a huge influx, rather than how slow it is to actually grind. At best, glory is 2k an hour? That’s an over-estimate in my opinion.

making SPvP servers into what Anet has announced as their ‘custom arenas’, ironically, I see as, more likely than not, a bad thing for the game.

Enlighten me then. What’s the point of a block list if not to allow you to block players you don’t want to play with.
Just a random example:
If I’m getting spam pm’d by a psycho then I’ll put them on my block list.
You don’t get the luxury of manually filtering out players in a matchmaking system, because that’s the job of the matchmaking system (hurr durr)

That’s the entire point of a block list: to solve problems by separating you from people you can’t interact with.
Your notion of what a block list should do is unrealistic / wrong.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all.
No?
Blocking only stops people you have chosen to dislike from communicating with you. Additionally, performance in a game is unrelated to blocking – you block people to prevent verbal harassment.
What would happen when you decide to block everyone except for the top 100 players?
Your suggestion is flawed.

I’m glad “your experience” can identity exactly how the rating system is supposed to work, even if your 1337 haXXorz brain can’t manage to realize that its working as intended. Two perfectly identical teams are only perfectly identical for their first matchup. Assuming 100% equal rating, the winning team will win the exact amount of points the losing team lost. If they face eachother again, guess what.. their ratings are no longer equal. And if the team who won the first match now loses, they lost to a team that is rated lower than them, so naturally they will lose more points than they won when they faced off the first time and end up lower than they started.
If I play against 5 players, the lowest of whom has a higher mmr than our highest ranked, then the enemy team clearly has a higher mmr. Keeping in mind that the leaderboards only updates every hour its workings are even more mysterious.
All we know for sure is that their team was higher during the first game, and the impact on my rating from 1-1 was a net loss. What do you suppose happened? Us beating them caused them to drop to rank 400, then us losing to them afterwards caused them to shoot back up where they belonged?
You carefully ignore details that inconvenience your arguments, it’s sad.
