Just an update, this literally happened to me AGAIN. No warning, no prompt no nothing.

Just moved maps. Loading screen then BAM. 0% progression.

99% sure this is a bug now.

This time probably map is closed. I mean the 2h event time has ended.

Fair, but there should be a warning and you also shouldn’t have all your progression reset.

I’ve not seem a map just close but got fed up with the warning message offering the bribe to get off.

For example, I walked into Frostgorge, was there about a minute and the ‘map closing’ warning appeared. I didn’t bother checking but I assumed Claw had just ended and the zerg had departed so I clicked ‘Yes’ and got a new map .. less than 5 mins later this new map warning appeared .. got to the third mapy and TEN MINS into that IT started to closee.

kitten Anet, your megaserver is broken. I ’m getting this warning pretty much every hour at least that I play, simply questing and exploring in zones, nothing to do with chasing world events.

This happened to me. I got a prompt, after my map closed the first time. I figured “sure why not, more people can’t hurt”. Problem? The map was dead. I had to LFG to find a decent one

I’ve had this happen five too many times. I’m in a map, sitting on over 100%, sometimes at 200% and BAM “this map is closing, would you like to volunteer” or the latest one today, IT JUST CLOSES. Bam. Full of players, no notice, just CLOSED. Ported to a new one, 0% progression. No rewards for the meta. The worst part? This is a common occurrence! This happens all the time!

This, quite frankly, is bull kitty. It needs to stop. We shouldn’t lose all our rewards just because the map is closing or because we decide to volunteer. It absolutely does not incentivize players to play on the new maps. At all.

Now, “just don’t play on the new maps till it’s fixed” you might say. Well, fair point but I’m working on a legendary which costs literally thousands of the map currencies. Which is a whole different topic.

Simply put, you should retain progression for that map UNLESS you move to a different zone and even then, there should be a 5 minute window. It needs to be tracked on your character, not on the map.

Don’t even get me started on what happens if you DC or run into a client/server crash.

People are not complaining about the time-gating because they want things NOW.

They are complaining about the fact that it prevents progression on what they currently wanted to work on in the game.
If something takes a long time to complete, people will spend a lot of time completing it.
If something can only be completed in tiny steps, while after every single step something tells you “Sorry, you are not allowed to do that before 24 hours have passed – come back later” most people are going to leave and come back later.

This. Exactly this.

I’m now sitting on 17/19 for the collection, the only thing stopping me is this timegate, of which I have 9 days left and then I can go speak to Ogden. At that point I’ll be able to progress ahead (hopefully) at the pace I desire. If there’s Ingots, Leather or Damask, I know that I have the option to either wait or jump onto the TP or get guildies to help me. Something I can choose. I’m still working on my other steps, but currently my “precursor journey” is having an alt parked at the printer to log in once a day and press F.

I’m not travelling anywhere, I’m not defeating bosses, I’m not doing anything “legendary”. I’m essentially waiting once a day for a printer to recharge. Surprised the first precursor isn’t labelled “Patience”.

The worst part is that it even costs Ley-line crystals, something you already need thousands of. Just 1300 for the total legendary alone, not even touching on Ley-line Sparks, which are several thousand crystals alone depending on your RNG.

Kind of annoyed at this collection tbh. Hoping the rest can be completed at the pace we choose ourselves.

I have to agree, it’s kind of stupid. Now if I were to come in here and complain about how many Crystalline Ingots I needed and a response of “don’t expect to have it day one” was given then fine, I can understand that. It isn’t timegated but requires a lot of effort and time regardless.

THIS does not require effort or anything other than pressing F and making 2 clicks each day for 12 days. Nothing legendary about it.

I already own 2 Legendaries (one being Eternity so let’s say 3), three and a half sets of ascended gear alongside multiple other items and achievements that take a considerable amount of time. I never expected to have any of that the day I set out for it, nor do I expect to have Astralaria on day one. What I imagine is being able to making reasonable progress at a steady pace, to be able to work towards a goal and I imagine this view is reflective of many others on the collection.

It’s in Rata Novus. If you head to the top lab there should be a doorway at the rear and within it there’s a giant hole to a floor below. Next to that hole is the printer.

Please do not try to get everything this exact moment. Twelve days are nothing if you factor in the other parts you are going to need.

I’m not but considering the entire thing is actually quite a lot of work (have you even seen how long it takes to get 250 Crystalline Ingots?) I feel like adding a timegate like this is kind of arbitrary and serves no real purpose. It doesn’t add anything to gameplay.

Timegates can be a valuable mechanic to enhance gameplay and ensure game longevity. However ArenaNet LOVES to litter them throughout their game because it “gives you something to do each day”. What’s being forgotten is there is already SO MUCH to do.

Timegates on Ascended? Fine, we don’t want the market flooded. Timegates on currency conversion? Fine, we don’t want people to just farm easy events in one map to get all the currency for another.

Timegates for a small lorebook studyguide that’s only reward is a mini and a couple AP? Sorry but that’s a bit ridiculous.

Would love to see some justification from you as to why a timegate is necessary or what it actually adds to the gameplay.

Straight out the door this baby comes with an arbitrary 12 day timegate, since the Mini Holographic Zinn, which is acquired by printing parts of the study guide, only allows you to print once per day. All the other parts of this collection are fine, but this is a flat timegate and it’s kind of stupid.

Would love to see this removed. I don’t expect to have everything day one, but if I have 300 Leyline Crystals and all the other bits, I should be able to progress the collection, not have to camp a character at the printer, log on, press f, click, log off, rinse repeat for 12 days.

Please remove this pointless timegate.

So I’ve now run through the story FOUR times and on my fourth run, I noticed a problem.

The boss has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much health. It is quite literally an HP sponge and does absolutely no damage. It is a complete and utter snorefest. If you happen to be slightly unlucky during the flight phase then GG, back at the start, fight him from PHASE ONE again. The check-point is kittened.

This is a completely snorefest and not what I would expect from an Elder Dragon.

Please update this. He needs double or even triple the damage with half the health.

For reference I’ve run full zerk on all characters

Soothing Stone – reduce the cast time, possibly to 0.5s
Inspiring Reinforcement – Pulses should begin instantly and the stability should last for 2 seconds.
Forced Engagement – This skill is fine IMO, though it isn’t super useful on Jalis
Vengeful Hammers – A really great skill if they don’t disappear. Needs the projectile rubbish fixed
RotGD – Instant or very short cast (0.25s) and increase duration 6 – 8s.

It’s not about gating the story. By ensuring you 100% have certain masteries it means ANet can give more fun and meaningful missions. They can rely on you have a particular skill-set, or in the early stages ensure you’re actually progressing.

Think of the first few missions as a tutorial, they’re teaching you what masteries you’ll probably need, after or in between those, go nuts.

WAS streaming, now have the full client (I know this is probably my mistake)
Alt-F4’d from the mission, because I froze.
Was put back in Pact Tyria(?) Silverwastes after.

Unable to get back into the Prologue after the game froze right at the end.

I am completely stuck and unable to play the expansion, access masteries or do pretty much anything of significance now.

Please fix or at least reset my god kitten story progress. I’ve tried starting other stories, swapping it, changing characters, “restarting”

Nothing.

It just puts me RIGHT back at “Gather at the rally point leading into the Maguuma jungle.”

Rebalance EotM Rewards

I’m seeing a continual problem and I know others have too. EotM has taken out far, far too many players from WvW. It’s become the go-to place for Karma, XP and WXP. It’s kind of sad to see such a beautiful map go to waste and to know that players are simply levelling on a karma train instead of going into the open-world to do it.

Aside from over-simplifying levelling and karma-gain, EotM in it’s current iteration has taken people out of WvW, which is actually quite sad. It was initially meant as an overflow map, but many players are simply jumping on the K-Train regardless of queues, because it’s easy rewards.

Thus, I propose a change to the heart of the problem.

Rebalance the Rewards for EotM
  
    
  
In order to do this, we can’t just nerf the XP, Karma and WXP gain into the ground. That will just destroy EotM and make it meaningless as an overflow map. There needs to be other rewards that benefit WvW, so here’s what exactly what I think would benefit the WvW scene.
  
   

1. Reduce all XP, WXP and Karma rewards by 50% or more for taking an objective
This is simply to reduce incentive for karma training.

2. Increase XP, WXP and Karma rewards for defending an objective by 25%
This should, ideally, mean defending in EotM actually becomes rewarding and should help make Karma Trains less worthwhile.

3. Only allow WXP boosters to be used in actual WvW
This is primarily to provide incentive for the next change, but again with #1 should reduce incentive to Ktrain

4. Give 15 Minute WXP boosters for taking keeps
Some might hate this idea, some might love it. The general idea is to turn EotM into an experience that will allow WvW to feel more rewarding. By giving WXP boosters for taking keeps, it means for when you actually go into WvW, you’ll have an even better time due to increased rewards. This should also provide EotMers a reason to go to WvW every time they get a booster, almost like reminder that real WvW is a thing.

5. Increase siege drops from chests
Again, providing WvW players rewards for when they jump back into WvW. If Siege drops are increased high enough, it can potentially become a method of allowing commanders to get easy siege. It can also become an easy method of gaining gold for the average player by selling it on the TP (also lowering the price of siege, which I’m sure all hardcore WvW players will appreciate).

5. For every minute spent in EotM while queued, players are granted a WXP buff of that duration when entering WvW
Again, this is too make WvW a more meaningful experience and make queues slightly less sucky. Players can engage in “fake” WvW, but when they actually jump into the map, they’re rewarded for their patience. This change wont allow players to exploit it by afking in EotM because it should only be active while they’re queued and wont effect their WXP gain while in EotM.
  
   
   
   
I’m sure there’s plenty other solutions to the problem, but I feel reducing the value of just running around taking keeps for WXP should help. I’m primarily concerned about EotM being used as a massive karma train to easily gain Elite Specialisations. Without any major changes, this actually sounds like one of the fastest ways to do it. 1 World Rank and 30 Badges can be gained in maybe a 20 minutes of an EotM Karma Train, while it can take far longer in regular WvW.

My hope is that EotM can still remain a thing, but more for it’s original purpose, not the level-up map it is today. I want to see players flooding back into WvW (yes, even up-level rangers and noobs… mainly on the other servers, but still :P) and I want to see WvW thrive, but this can’t happen while EotM remains a problem. With the new updates to WvW and a solution to this problem, I really think that future can come to fruition.

Okay okay okay, what if:

Static Field, Line of Warding, etc had a maximum of 5 targets. After hitting the target cap they disappear.

A well timed CC-bomb can still be quite effective, but now it takes into account the target cap and you can’t take down 25 stacks of stability on 80 people, just by having enough Guardians and Elementalists.

Just throwing in a big thank you to ANet for revising the change back to Saturday night.

I think I speak for all OCX/SEA when I say this is far more preferential to the morning reset. The morning reset completely prevented us from participating, since it was 4am AEST. While the Friday reset is much, much better and everyone prefers it, having the evening reset is at least a compromise.

Hopefully we can go back to Friday resets eventually, but I truly am appreciative of reverting it to Saturday evening.

Sorry I know this is a tad late but I just wanted to clarify.

I am strictly discussing HUMAN Revenants

I am fully aware of the fact that professions are not tied to specific Gods, however back in GW1 and still today in GW2 we see very specific reverence of certsin Gods when HUMAN is of a specific profession. E.g.

Warrior: Balthazar
Guardian: Balthazar & Dwayna
Elementalist: Balthazar, Dwayna, Grent/Lyssa, Melandru
Mesmer: Lyssa
Necromancer: Grenth
Thief: Lyssa (?) and Grenth (?)
Ranger: Melandru
Engineer: Honestly there is lacking information here but I’m going to assume a human engineer would most likely revere Kormir as their patron God.

I also understand Revenant is a new profession and worship will develop, as such what I mean is, “What is the most likely patron God of Human Revenants given time?”

Again my most likely guess is Grenth, Balthazar and Dwayna but I’m mot entirely sure.

I’ll edit the OP once I get back to my computer (honestly it could do with a tidy up anyway) to reflect this clarification.

How are Patch Notes recorded?

I noticed this has never been explained and I feel like it could provide some insight into ANet that many would appreciate. We’ve seen multiple times that things get added in a patch, but aren’t listed in the notes, such as changes to sigils, new UI functions, etc.

I’m assuming these things are intentional, but just aren’t added in the notes for some reason. Is there an internal process for how a note gets added? Is there a specific reason one might not get added?

Hoping for a dev response on this because I think it would be really great for the community come Heart of Thorns, since I’m guessing we’re going to have quite a few patches after launch

I love how it got added to the Berserker spec as well. Neat things like this make me love classes. I always thought the way Ele had their attunements was really cool. It adds more flavour to classes. I’d love to see more subtle things like this on all classes or on certain elite specs/traits.

Agree with most of what’s been said here.

Ventari is eh with a lot of potentially. It needs to be less clunky with access to a waterfield.

Jalis also has potential but needs Inspiring Reinforcement retuned and RotGD probably needs a greater effect or a longer one.

Mallyx is eh right now. It has some neat skills and can even fit really well into a power style spec (the utility is great), but it’s still sort of lackluster. Needs a little refining.

Shiro is great.

Glint is amazing. No complaints.

The class really needs another trait pass though. There’s quite a few things that are useless or just can’t compete with the other things in their line. Invocation is guilty of this as is Devastation.

The more I’ve been using the staff, the more I’ve been realising how clunky Surge of Mists is. It pushes you forward in the direct you’re facing and this just doesn’t work very well.

In GW2’s combat system a lot of movement skills are targeted or ground targeted. Surge of Mists is an outlier. It’s clunky and makes staff feel awkward to use.

I propose Surge of Mists be ground targetted in a similar way to Whirlwind Attack on the Warrior’s Greatsword. Alternatively, it should be made like Rush on the same weapon. This will allow players to utilize the skill to far greater effect and have to worry much less about the direction they’re facing, or if their opponent moves just slightly.

Yeah seriously feeling Jalis is underwhelming.

Here’s how I think it needs to be fixed:

1. Halve the cast time on the heal
e
2. Add an initial AoE 3 stacks of stability to the road for ~3 – 5s. Turn the road “paving” into a .5 or .25s cast. Atm it takes far, far too long to be useful for anything.

3. Double the projectile speed for Forced Engagement, maybe even just a 50% increase.
4. Turn Vengeful Hammers into a PBAoE/not projectiles. That or find a way to have them not disappear through terrain and walls.

5. Slightly increase the buff time of RotGD. It’s in a really good spot with it’s cast, but the duration is just a little too short considering it’s only a 50% damage reduction. Around 8 seconds would be ideal.

Other than that, I actually really like Jalis and what it’s meant to do. It just isn’t quite there and I really want it to be. Revenant is looking like my new main so I want all of it to be really effective and Jalis/Ventari are kind of letting it down.

This is pretty much what happens if you’re new to a more complex class. I’ve been doing this but getting better at it. I did the same when I started Guardian. As you learn the feel and the CDs of the class you’ll start to edge away from staring at your bar.

At least that’s in my experience anyway

Yeah, I pointed this out too when the trait itself was announced. Another solution may be giving it an independent cd for every different boon (so 3s cd for protection, 3s cd for fury and so on). This way if you have 3 active facets you get 3 might.

That’s pretty much what Solution One encompasses. Give each Facet/Boon an independent ICD so that with careful play you basically get the 1 might every second or 3 might every 3 seconds.

You’re quite right Kodiak. Jalis is just too situational. I really hopy they do change the functionality of the Hammers. GW2’s terrain really does make them kinda hard to use well. Thankfully they can be activated and deactivated but you shouldn’t really need to.

I can see where you’re coming from with RotGD, but I think it can be useful in most areas, kind of like a lot of Shiro’s skills, but it isn’t particularly evident right now. I imagine it’ll get a lot of play in PvP, Raids and WvW.

Just hoping IR gets the buff it needs otherwise it’s literally only useful for fighting on point or stomping/ressing.

So when you look at Shared Empowerment and it’s 1 second ICD, you’d think that with very careful skill activation, you could hit the 1s ICD every time on the 3s pulse of your facets, essentially making the most out of it and getting the full stacks.

Unfortunately, either by design or accident, this is not possible due to the current way your facets pulse, you will only get the might once every 3 seconds, even if you have absolutely perfect activation.

This is due to the fact that all your facets pulse at the exact same time. Try it out. Activate your facet of Light around halfway to Elements “running out”. They will both pulse together. Now, I don’t pretend to understand how the coding for this works, but it seriously hinders the skillcap of this class.

A player with much better timing should be able to get double or even triple the might of a player who just activates all their facets at the same time.

I see two possible solutions to this.

Solution One

Give facets independent pulses. This will allow for a higher skillcap and allow better players to generate more might for themselves and there team. Your average player could possibly pull around 50% trigger for SE, with an exceptional player hitting all 3 ICDs with their Facets.

Solution Two

Pulse facets every second. This will simply cause SE to trigger every single pulse and result in all players getting the most out of this trait and their facets. While this lowers this skillcap, it does provide a nice buff to the class that I personally wouldn’t be complaining about. I haven’t done the math but I get the impression this would also lower the ability of players to gain extremely high uptimes on their buffs (I can maintain 50s of Fury with rage runes and Nature without even trying).

Either way, I see this as a very, very powerful trait for the Revenant that I’d love to see fixed. At the moment it’s just a free ~90 power for using a single facet which is extremely boring.

Enhanced Squad UI Feedback

A few minor things which I feel would improve the functionality of the new Squad UI:

  • Dragging player ‘up’ to create a new sub-squad felt awkward. Either dragging ‘down’ or having a right-click option in the context menu would feel nicer and more intuitive.
  • Not being able to see boons / conditions hinders my ability to react to party members in distress or boon application.
  • The ‘Broadcast’ portion of the UI impedes my view a bit when acting as a squad leader. I would like an option to either reduce its opacity or hide it when I don’t need to use it.
  • When moving players to and from subgroups, the scaling for the squad UI behaves awkwardly. It also messes with other squad members’ UI when making changes to squad composition (it feels like it shouldn’t be doing that at all). An option that could work is to keep the scaling static for squad member bars per squad member and scale the squad panel around that.

This. This this this. It summarises all the changes that are needed for squads to be great. Fix the broadcast, change some very minor functionalities. Display more information for us and improve subgroups a little and I’ll even buy a second account.

Absolutely loving all HoT has to offer and squads are amazing, but they still need that final touch to be what they truly can be.

Revenant Human God Reverence

So back in GW1 we had the manuscripts that told us all about which professions typically revered which gods and this has typically held true to GW2’s time, with Warriors revering Balthazar, Guardians both Balthazar and Dwayna (like monks & paragons used to), Rangers Melandru, Mesmers Lyssa, Elementalists all but Kormir & Lyssa mainly (though I expect it’s now just Kormir that isn’t in the primary set, since Lyssa has domain of water now), etc etc.

So with Revenant brought into the picture, this raises an odd question. What god do they typically Revere as their primary one? I’d imagine it would be Grenth, but there’s room for Balthazar given their phsyical nature, Lyssa given some of their abilities are quite similar to that of a mesmer or thief in nature (game mechanics vs lore, I know). I imagine Melandru and Dwayna would likely be out of the picture and though there’s a temptation to say Kormir could be their most revered deity due to her blindfolded nature, I doubt it goes beyond that.

So what’s everyone’s thoughts? Personally I see Grenth as the primary candidate. That or they’re likely to be more Dervish in nature, revering all the gods completely equally.
