I think the important part to establish here is that the guild should be for people who actively want to kill him

This involves:

Ressing up when you die
Helping at the turrents
Attacking his feet
Using the correct gear
Not Akitteng
Listening to the commanders
Knowing how to dodge
Keeping the turrents repaired before they go down
Knowing how to man the turrets correctly
Making sure you res the downed
Buffing each other

and more.

If you can’t do that, this will fail.

Angel McCoy Interview

I’d just like to point out my post where I brought up how kittened and lore-breaking this interview is, stating that Angel McDouble is ruining the game’s lore, saying she shouldn’t be in her position, was deleted

I’d also like to point out that there is nothing wrong with criticizing someone’s work. If any part of ArenaNet does a bad job, it is our job to say so. This includes writing fan-fiction level drivel that this person dares to call lore.

Sure, delete this too, it isn’t going to stop me from posting again. You can’t just keep deleting and hiding messages just because they aren’t rainbows and smiles. We as players are often going to say harsh, but often well deserved, things.

Sure, to begin with my post was maybe a little rude, but someone pointed that out and I changed it. Removing a post and then punishing a person just because you do not like having your employees criticized is really bad practice. It’s not the first time this has happened and wont be the last.

I wont go on about it, as there are far more established players within the lore community taking on the issue in a better way and directly responding to it (see page 3).

My opinion, however, still stands. Angel McCoy has no place writing lore for the Guild Wars Multiverse in the same way I have no place doing open heart surgery. I know nothing about it and I’m only going to mess it up to the point of no return.

Please ArenaNet, start hiring better lore staff. Less DeviantArt level crap and more of what was so amazing in Guild Wars 1.

That said, though, there’s no evidence that those skills are common. It’s very rare that we see a human NPC using one, compared to, say, norn animal forms that we see all the time. It’s very likely that, whether the human racials are actually getting power from the gods or whether it’s coming from an internal divine seed, only a small minority of particularly heroic humans are capable of doing so.

This kind of goes back to the issue of “How special is the player”

Sure, we accomplish a lot and can wield powerful magic, but what’s to say a level 2 farmer can’t do the same if he gets to be a level 80 farmer, using powerful gear?

My take is that we aren’t exactly that special, where in Guild Wars 1, we were (we literally Ascended and actually defeated a God)

They have blatantly kitten all over large components of pre-established lore with total disregard for the impacts it has on the story. It is literal tween fan-fiction tier garbage that you would expect from

My point was not that they are actual avatars. I mained a Dervish in Guild Wars 1 and it’s the same concept. The character beseeches/prays to that god for powers and such and they are granted. We regularly see, in-game, the Gods doing work. Sure, not as much as we used to, but it happens. You can still /kneel at the shrine of Grenth in Lornar’s Pass and receive a boon.

Humans can still use magic. That should be proof enough, unless that gets retconned (I actually think it already has) too.

snip

I understand that, but the principle remains. There is a clear cut, keen belief in the Gods. There are temples and shrines all throughout Divinity’s Reach and clear NPC dialogues all throughout the world about worship of the Gods.

As much as I hate her, Kormir was a human. 250 years, if we look at our world (which Anet often seems to do) is not long enough for something to come close to ‘myth’. Especially something of that significance.

snip

I’ll ignore the ‘green-text’ and ‘chan reference, but to an extent I agree with what you’ve said. My issue is mainly that there was core parts of the lore that have been part of the series for over 5 years. FIVE. YEARS… and now ruined.

I was using the reverence of Gods as an example of how out of touch she is with the lore. To give a (possibly) better example, I’ll bring up the schools of Magic.

We have already found how the Blood_stone_ was formed and that it was split into different pieces because of Doric’s request. This has never been retconned until now. She has simple said “No, no. The Gods split the bloodstone for no reason at all. They just did it because. People just don’t pick a second profession because it takes time”

This ignores the fact that in the original Guild Wars you could LITERALLY learn a new profession in a manner of what I assume is days. Nightfall is a perfect example, along with Factions (Prophecies takes a little longer). Sure, with the rise of the dragons and a reduction of magic, it might take a little longer, but it can happen. Look at Guardians. They use Aggression and Protection. Elementalists use Destruction and Protection.

This whole interview is garbage and I refuse to accept it as cannon. I want the Guild Wars 1 writers back.

Why ascended weapon is bad for wvw

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

As an active WvW player and Commander,

No. You’re wrong. This has no effects for WvW at all. You gain maybe a slight bit of damage over someone else. The stat change is insignificant at best. WvW was never designed to be fair. It’s why a level 80 geared out in full exotics is significantly more powerful than one geared in blues and greens. If you wanted fairness we’d all be doing mass scale PvP, which would suck.

Besides, WvW isn’t about doing “mad deeps” like PvE, it’s about staying alive longer than the opposition.

Again, ascended equipment makes next to no difference in WvW, least of all weapons. There is going to be that few of players that it will never change the outcome of your score. If you got an extra 200 points for every ascended weapon that your server had over the other server, you’d find that you would gain next to no points, because it will be about the same on all servers.

If you’re here to complain about 1v1 fights, then you don’t understand how WvW works. People will always have an advantage because of better gear in certain fights. Say you have ruby orbs because you can’t afford Scholar runes and I actually have scholar runes… there’s my advantage, in your eyes.

WvW is not intended to be fair, despite Ascended equipment giving no real damage bonus over exotic.

Can't connect to certain maps 7:11:3:189:101

On certain maps (Particularly, LA and different WvW maps at different times), I get the error.

I can connect to others, but not those. It simply DCs me.

I’ve tried:

Ipconfig release/renew.
DNS flush
Router Restart
PC restart
Changing from wireless to LAN

Other issues:
Trading post ceases to work at times
Social Systems (guild, chat, friends list, etc,) cease to work
Slight lag

I’ve also experienced different maps having different issues based on the server I guest to.

I’m guessing it has to do with how many people are on that map and my packets get “lost” (i.e. thrown away) because the system can’t handle the additional player loading in…. or something like that.

If I load into say… Divinity’s Reach on my Elementalist and they waypoint to LA, I get booted and can no longer access that character. Ipconfig release/renew sometimes works but it’s rare.

Will the 50+ Fractals ever get available ?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Really needs to happen. I’ve got 55 AR now. I’m 5 AR off taking 0 damage in 48s.

When ascended armour comes out, and we all get an extra 30 AR, capable of taking 1% damage per tick at level 58 is that where you say ’Alright, now you can have 50s"

This is not a problem of letting the general community get to that level, but giving the hardcore players a level to play at, with a level of prestige to it. What prestige is there in 48s anymore? None really. The guys running CoF 1 all day every day are there with 5 or 6 fractal weapons. They’re just a skin now.

I want to be able to put up an LFG for a level 68 and know that just by joining, my group will be some of the best players I’ve ever played with.

Please, uncap fractals. Literally anyone with full infused ascended, which as it currently stands takes maybe a month to get if they try, can do 48s. They don’t have to be skilled, they don’t have to be able to communicate to a party. Hell, they don’t even have to dodge anymore. Do what needs to be done.

WvW only skills?

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

We definitely don’t want to go to the level of fragmenting the game to the extent that we have PvP, WvW, and PvE versions of all the skills as that creates a disconnect with the characters we want you to use in all those places. That said, we are certainly discussing the idea of adding skills that would have a WvW focus. But they are just on the discussion level.

So the way this was handled in GW1 was bad?

Yes. Not only was it incredibly complex to maintain it became completely unwieldy to players as well. GW2 has made a great number of changes to systems specifically to avoid the complications we created in GW1. Not creating multiple versions of skills for 3 areas of the game would be one of those changes.

This is pretty much along the lines of kittened. I don’t mean to insult you as an ArenaNet employee or as a person but this is total ignorance to how Guild Wars 2 (and Guild Wars 1) works as a game.

PvE, PvP and WvW are TOTALLY different game modes. Currently the game is getting PvP balance for a predominately PvE game. A vast, vast majority of players are PvE players and if you’re balancing it for something they don’t play, it’s going to kitten a lot of people off.

This was a mistake you made in Guild Wars 1 and you had to fix it. The fix WORKED. Your PvP players learnt the PvP skills and the PvE players learnt the PvE skills. If you wanted to join PvP you had to learn to play. Same thing with PvE.

This was one of Guild Wars’ strong selling points. It had lots of mechanics that you had to learn. If you wanted to get good, you had to pay attention to things. Sure, Guild Wars 2 is different and the target audience is different. You want to make things easier to understand for people that want to get into PvP and WvW, I understand, but this isn’t the way to go about it.

Here’s an example,

Conditions in PvE are quite frankly, kitten. They are garbage beyond measure and it’s why you’ll rarely see necromancers or bleed warriors in speed runs. However, the amount of times I’ve been absolutely destroyed by a condition mesmer or necromancer in WvW is insane. Conditions absolutely wreck in PvP based situations.

If you want to nerf conditions for WvW/PvP, you’re nerfing them even further for PvE. If you want to buff them for PvE, you make them OP in WvW/PvP and that creates balance issues.

You can’t balance all 3 game types under 1 skill set. They are different games with largely different playerbases. You are not going to have PvE noobs jumping into PvP all the time, simply because it’s PvP. Most people who want to start PvP will want to actually learn how to play it. The only two game modes that can maybe have the same skillset is WvW and PvE, simply because WvW is mostly P+Siege+EvP+Siege+EvE. You have many different things you’re dealing damage to and taking damage from and a lot of it is not players.

Please, please, please don’t make the same mistake of Guild Wars 1. Understand that PvP balance doesn’t work for PvE and WvW. Understand that you can’t do it. Players will easily see the transition as long as you present the information correctly. This is your core problem. You can’t have 3 skillsets if you don’t show the players they’re actually different.

The way to fix this is to give skills a generally similar function but alter the numbers and exact mechanics for each format. Say for example, poison is a slow DoT with average damage, but reduces healing, in PvP, but in PvE the numbers are changed slightly. Say it might do less damage but the heal reduction will go up.

Or 100b is a chained, rooted auto-attack and it does high damage, but it does more 2x more damage and doesn’t work on stunned foes in PvP (not aiming for perfect balance, it’s just a bad example off the top of my head).

You can not balance PvE and PvP under the same skills. It will not work. Your team needs to stop thinking “ep1c e-sporrtzzz xD” and start thinking “How can we provide genuine balance between classes and present the transition between game types as best as we can?”

Listen to your players. I do both High-end PvE and I’m a WvW commander, currently building a WvW guild on my server. Sure, I’m not the best, but I understand the implications of your current stance on balance, better than most.

You’re doing it wrong.

I had fun in EB the other night. My favourite part was that defence of Durious. I think you know the one I’m talking about.

We had pretty much all of you guys ready to come in with what seemed like 30 strong. I had as many people with me as I could, people were freaking out on TS and Team Chat, half my zerg was still outside, nobody was listening, I was fully expecting to lose… and I laid down a superior AC.

You guys… you guys got demolished. There wear cheers in Teamspeak and in chat. It was glorious. I had every expecting of getting stomped by you guys and we won. It was a really good fight and could have gone either way for a minute or so, but IoJ pulled strong and just as we were finishing the push our 2nd group came in from the north and stomped the rest. It was beautiful.

Thanks for the bags and the fun. I really hope this week continues to be fun and that none of us lose too many to the Tuesday (Wednesday for us Oceanics) patch. I want some good competition this week!

What can I say?

IoJ is a fantastic server for community, PvE and WvW. We’re having transfer on a weekly basis. Our guilds are growing and becoming more organised.

We have a fully organised server forum and weekly Commander meetings to ensure we’re all on the same page. Guilds are also allowed a channel for their guild on teamspeak (as long as they use it), so you don’t even have to pay for your own TS.

I’ve personally been recommending this server to all my friends and have managed to get a few here. If you’re looking for a server with potential, this is it.

Oh and…

We have Oceanics. Lots.

The fall of IoJ

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

The fall of IoJ is something we tend to refer to as ‘The Exodus’

as previously stated, it was effectively 90% of our WvW (and subsequently PvE) population leaving just before guesting was put in. IoJ had a hugely bloated ranking as we stayed t1 for a while and then dropped to t2. Because of the old ranking system, we were stuck. We had guilds constantly complaining about losing and so they left.

For a while, we dropped. We fell… fast and hard. We dropped tiers almost weekly. As Karn stated, we kind of stabilized around t6 and stayed there. This is around the time a few of us stepped up to the plate and bought a tag. WvW became a job, basically. There are some on the server who will be able to recount it far better than me, but it was hard work.

To be in the position we are today is amazing. A few months ago I’d have never imagined winning THREE WEEKS IN A ROW (Go IoJ!!). We’ve come along way and it’s been tough. We’ve had wins and loses and some weeks we’ve almost even tied with servers (looking at you DR).

I’ve enjoyed this week, but it hasn’t been a challenge. I hate to say it but I’d rather be getting my kitten kicked. We get more of a turn out those weeks.

Honestly DR, you’re in for a tough ride. You lost a few WvW guilds (from what I’ve heard anyway) and it’s gonna suck, but you’ll come back from it. Hopefully as IoJ builds it’s strength, some day you can recover and come beat our kitten as pay back for this match-up.

Ayrilana, this issue is more about FoTM than sigils.

It’s still def an issue with sigils though. I’ve always thought it was odd that 2h weapons didn’t get 2 slots. IMHO they should.

You’re probably one of the many who don’t understand how sigils work. They only affect that weapon’s skills. The exception being stacking sigils.

123 is right hand, 45 is left hand. 12345 is both hands for 2h weps. Balanced.

No, I still don’t see it. In many fights, you are always changing the weapons between 2h and 2 1h … so if you get hit while you have the 2h on you, it might hurt a little bit more, so be prepared and have your other set or … how about avoiding it?

Yes, there are classes which can’t wep swap so they might be stuck with a single 2h weapon, but come on … an ele for example has enough to counter this.

I don’t think is a balance issue. I actually think it IS balanced this way.

I’m not sure I see your reasoning. Are you saying that because two one handed weapons have the ability for two mutually exclusive sigils that only work for that weapon’s skills, infusions should provide an outright bonus.

You don’t get any ‘buff’ or ‘nerf’ (well, there is a tiny one, as the stats are 1 value less, currently) with two handed weapons. They’re reasonably balanced. Infusions would break this.

Think about it. With two one handed, you get +10 fully functioning agony resist. With 1 one handed, you get +5.

With two one handed, you get a 33% chance on hit to create a fire blast with 3 skills and a 33% chance to create a fire blast with two skills (not sure on functionality with thieves). With one two handed you get a 33% chance to create a fire blast on hit with 5 skills, the same as the two one handed.

As far as mechanics are concerned, one handed and two handed is for the most part, balanced. This would bring an imbalance if it doesn’t have the same functionality as sigils, where it only affects that particular weapon. If it does then there is no problem and you’re right, it balances.

Remove the rewards, and this is a grand idea.

It would help give the writers some fresh and out-of-their-box ideas, and at the same time allow the players to steer the storyline in the direction they are interested in, rather than what Anet thinks the players are interested in (which is heavily mixed response; ironically, the frequenters of the lore forum are majorily leaned towards the “dislike” of current story and characters – to put it mildly).

Though the problem still is in that ArenaNet’s the sole ones who see and decide the story, they can easily just toss all submitted stories out the window, produce their own as planned, and say “this was from/inspired by the fans.”

But with the current direction, I feel that players could produce far better stuff.

How I wish the game was moddable – like Elder Scrolls game… capable of inserting your own stories into the game would be wonderful. Sadly, doesn’t quite work on MMOs (then again… isolated overflows would allow such, wouldn’t it…).

Got waaay too many novels-in-progress right now,

Hah. I know how that feels.

Always just one scene that keeps me from continuing, or new ideas pop in and I feel like rewriting when I’m 80% done, or different story ideas that I just must get out… keeps me from finishing stories. lol

Wait you’re writing a book? What’s it about? I remember your (or I think it was your’s) story about Grenth and Orr and such in a guild wars online magazine that used to come out and it was really good stuff. Maybe I’m getting confused with someone else, but anyway, I’d probably read your novel.

I honestly don’t see a big problem in this (since release … considering all the “2h weps only have one sigil slot”-flames in spvp). You know … 2 weapons are more than 1. You gotta deal with it imo!

I can see your point, but here’s the issue:

Sigils only affect the current weapon they use, with the soul exception of stacking sigils.

Crit chance, endurance regen, effect on crit, etc. They all work for that weapon and that one alone.

If you take a look at infusions, however, they are direct stat bonuses. Sure, most are only +5, but it comes into play when we talk about agony resist.

+5 agony resist is the difference between life and death sometimes, particularly at 48.

Buuut in the long run there isn’t much I can do if they don’t make it balanced, other than come here and complain that it was a really bad balance decision.

How will this work? Having 1h weapons with a functioning infusion slot each and only 1 slot for 2h provides a serious disadvantage for 2h weapon players.

This is pretty important, especially for fractals players.

I would wonder if they could maybe rectify that problem simply by adding one and two-handed infusions/sigils that can only go in their respective weapon type. Though, I don’t believe they currently distinguish upgrade slots based on weapon type, but it might be a way to fix it.

However, it is disappointing to have 2h weapons inherently less valuable for AR than two one-handed weapons.

That would be my initial thought process, or even just making the infusion set a certain amount on that weapon type or just set only 1h to function like sigils do, with the exception of stack weapons.

I don’t want to see a 1h meta for 48s., though you’ll probably die if you get hit anyway.

Ascended gear is better than exotic gear with the same stat combination, even when the exotic has a jewel of the same stat combo. In addition to better stats than exotic, ascended gear has an upgrade slot.

This is what I think as it would resemble current Ascended trinkets compared to exotics..

EDIT: The upgrade slot can probably only be slotted with infusions http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion
EDIT2: On top of this I would assume that you’d also have an upgrade slot for sigils.

Yea my main question is whether we will have a slot for sigil. Anet please clarify

“· Legendary Weapon Updates: Legendary weapons will receive a stat boost, an Offensive Infusion slot to align with new Ascended weapons and additional functionality, among other things.” preview from Kotaku.

Personally I think it is a good idea, it forces players to choose between sigil and extra damage. It is sort of like the green weapons in guild wars 1, technically better but kittenter because you could not modify.

Umm, no. GW1 greens were worth pennies. Legendaries are not. If my hundreds of hours of work go down the drain because I can no longer customise the weapon like any other weapon (IT’S ONLY A SKIN), then I will be lost for words as to how stupid Arenanet have become.

I know there were because they were not customisable, but that is the price they paid for having higher stats. Also it did not hurt that getting greens were far easier than getting golds because you could farm a VERY specific mob until you got the drop while gold were random drops.

ALSO with the update legendaries can change their stats at will out side of combat so I don’t really see the point you are driving at.

Greens did not have higher stats than gold. You’d know this if you actually played Guild Wars to any reasonable extent. In fact, some had lower stats. Look it up.

This. There’s a reason why most exotics, regardless of stats, that have an inherit unchangeable sigil in them aren’t really worth much unless the sigil and stats are good.

As far as greens go… they were an entirely different type of gear. They weren’t a tier higher than Gold, they were a different form of weapon. Some were max stat, q9 and some were q3 with level 3 stats (plains of jahrin weapons, for example). We don’t have anything like this in guild wars 2.

It would make ascended weapons totally worthless if they removed the sigil, unless they gave them a huge boost for stats, like at least 10 -15% stat boost.

I can not, for any reason, understand why ArenaNet would remove this functionality other than sheer stupidity. “Oh hey, you’ve used a sigil on every other tier of gear, BUT NOPE, now you have to use infusion! Oh and legendaries? You’re forced into this. No choice.”

As far as sigil of accuracy is concerned, you’re losing 100 precision. 105 if you don’t use the precision infusion. That is extremely significant. To compensate for this, legendary weapons would have to receive a 75% stat boost alone. For trinkets I can understand the reasoning and it’s because it simply just combined the stats into 1 set. Sure it limited customization but I doubt any serious player really want Berserker Trinkets with Magic Find or Condition damage jewels, it wouldn’t make sense.

Removing sigil (and also imbalance the stats for infusion) would serious be taking a step back.

It’s not stupidity is the price to pay for higher stats and it doesn’t make exotics worthless either.

As much as I’ll defend your right to have an opinion, it’s wrong.

Like… it’s actually wrong. Why? Because unless they have a huge stat difference (which is kind of unfair and super unlikely. It’ll be more like 3%) it will makes ascended weapons ultimately worse than exotics. I would actually transmute my legendary. There should be no ‘price to pay’ for having a higher tier of equipment. It should be just that, a higher tier. It should carry over the same qualities as exotics and buff them, not nerf them.

Unless you’re a noob who will never (lol?) be able to obtain an ascended weapon, exotics shouldn’t be worse/on par with ascended. Ascended will be achievable by everyone, just like they are now, however they will require time and money. Noobs/casuals/scrubs/plebs whatever you call them will say it’s difficult, but it isn’t, it just takes more time… and it should, unless you’re the type of person who thinks you should receive a free precursor/legendary and 1000g just for logging in.

Clarification on ascended weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It would make ascended weapons totally worthless if they removed the sigil, unless they gave them a huge boost for stats, like at least 10 -15% stat boost.

I can not, for any reason, understand why ArenaNet would remove this functionality other than sheer stupidity. “Oh hey, you’ve used a sigil on every other tier of gear, BUT NOPE, now you have to use infusion! Oh and legendaries? You’re forced into this. No choice.”

Give 2H weapons 2 infusion slots

in Crafting

mexay.3902

What? This is kittened. Why should a player using one handed weapons be allowed +10 stats and +10 Agony resist when a two hand player be given +5.

This provides a serious disadvantage to certain classes and set-ups, in particular in fractals. I would expect that for 1h weapons only 1 infusion would work, otherwise it’s a huge imbalance.

Give 2H weapons 2 infusion slots

in Crafting

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

So in order for simple balance, the following change needs to happen for ascended and legendary weapons:

Either;

Two-handed weapons are given two infusion slots to compensate for using dual 1h items (or infusion on two handed weapons gaining +10 instead of +5)

OR

Only 1 one-handed weapon’s infusion may work.

Unless this is implemented then we will see an imbalance, particularly with fractals and dual wielders have a higher AR than two 1 handed weapons. I’m concerned this hasn’t been implemented, but if it is not it is highly imbalanced as hell.

This must happen to provide fairness in fractals. 5AR is often the difference between life and death at level 48. It adds up to a whole 6% per tick.

I strongly encourage ArenaNet developers to review and implement this change if it isn’t in the update. This is of crucial importance for fractals balance.

Current DDE/Collector's don't get new bonus?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mexay.3902

So my understanding is that the current digital deluxe edition owners/collector’s edition owner’s don’t get access to the new things in the heroic edition and the new version of the digital deluxe?

I’m not trying to be greedy but that seems a little unfair. We paid for our DDE/CE and got certain things, yet someone who pays for the exact same thing now, gets more? I wont exactly miss it either way, as I have no interest in the armour and can just do a fractal to get a bigger box.

Looking for an official response along with other players perspectives. Do you guys think it’s unfair or am I just looking at it wrong?

I don’t know who’s /laugh spamming, but they need to stop. It’s disrespectful and you wouldn’t do it if you ran a dungeon with the person.

I can at least say we have a rule against it in [WolF], so contact me if you see one of our members doing it, but I’d appreciate similar respect from DR though, not that I’ve seen any do it recently Not to rub it in, but you haven't exactly had much of a chance to anyway. :P

Nice borderlands DR… oh… wait.

Also apologizing to the Christmas Dolyak I killed. I’m sorry, I had to. It hurt me more than it hurt you.

Yeah, it’s pretty sad. DR is on a decline and our coverage is getting worse. The new PvE content kind of took us over the edge, and people are losing interest in WvW and doing that.

IoJ has been there before. If it gets really bad for you guys just aim to have fun. Don’t stress out.

Hey I remember you! I stole your golem blueprints awhile back and you went and cried on the forums!

You can keep them. You probably needed the money you would have spent on the golem, for repair costs today.

Doesn’t matter now, I have like 20 ready to use this week.

Currently I see DR at +25 points this week. If reset is anything to judge by, this will be our 3rd win in 3 weeks.

On another note, is anyone interested in Bollaball or whatever it’s called? Hit me up. Preferably those around oceanic timezones. You’ll need a team of 5. Mail me in-game with your teammates names and your timezone and we can try organise something. I don’t mind volunteering as the ball if there is a team from ET and a team from DR.

Let me know.

Portrayal of Males in Living Story

in Living World

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

I never really looked at it from OP’s perspective but he brings up some rather good points.

Let me start out by saying I am all for equality, however I understand nothing will ever be exactly equal with anything, really, we can only get close.

I’m really happy that ArenaNet has made some prominent female characters, they did this extremely effectively in Guild Wars 1 and the male characters were also extremely interesting. Looking at Guild Wars 2… they’ve kind of fallen short.

Now, bare with me, remember, I support equality…

I think ArenaNet has maybe taken things a little too far, be it intentional or not. We have the majority of our core characters as females, most of them are presented in a strong manner, while males are not (for the most part). We have openly homosexual characters (again, this is fine, it just adds up), we have borderline interspecies sexual references (yes, they’re there if you pay attention). We have lore breaking elements of the game (dark skinned norn did not exist in guild wars 1 and 250 years is not long enough for half their race to look like they’re all giant Elonians) and a number of other things that effectively are just ArenaNet catering to equality.

I am all for equality in real life, however in an RPG Fantasy world, it needs to make sense within the lore and it needs to be reasonably equal. I would bet real money that were all the living story characters that were portrayed in a heroic/positive light, male and the negative light, female, that we would have many a feminist complaining.

I’m not overly fussed about it, but OP is right. I would be severely disappointed if things continue like this. I would like to think that in the end we see this:

Female Charr, Female Human, Male Norn, Male Asura, ‘Male’ Sylvari. Effectively a reversed Destiny’s Edge 2.0, but maybe not in the same way.

Again, in case you forgot and your feminism is tingling, equality is good and I’m for it.

I feel that perhaps the current portrayal is not equal, but we’ll see. It’s not a major issue one way or the other, but I don’t want to see it become a problem.

What in the name of Balthazar does being a female have to do with your suggestions?

Why does it matter if I’m a male? It doesn’t. Starting any sort of suggestion, request, statement or anything really, with "HAAIII……. IM …A . . .. GRILL…….. BTW

. . . ….. " makes anything you say following it, invalid.

Nobody will take you seriously and it’s nothing but attention-seeking.

Player housing, mounts, new gear? They’re all things a lot of people want, regardless of gender. In a game where you can literally play as whatever gender you want and look pretty much however you want, it is not a factor.

Player housing, yes. New gear, yes. Mounts? No, go kitten off back to WoW or Everkitten if you want that.

tl;dr OP is nothing but an attention-seeking child and their opinions should be disregarded.

Condi warriors are too much

Conditions are broken right now, they have no stat or a boon that reduces their incoming damage, like power has toughness/armor and protection.

Vitality/Regeneration/Condition Clear

Low health isn’t an excuse because all classes with a low HP pool have access to either regen or easy condition clear. High health classes will ultimately have less of an issue with conditions because of their health.

Here’s a better system:

Based on the reward level you get a guaranteed core of random type.

Every 10 levels the number of cores goes up.

1 – 9 is one, 10 – 19 is 2, 20 – 29 is 3, etc. etc.

Along with introducing a purchasing system for the skins. Say… 50 pristine relics, 10g and 250 fractal relics for one.

imo, this simple fix would make fractals worthwhile.

Queen's Gauntlet shouldn't be temporary.

in Queen's Jubilee

mexay.3902

So I just watched the stream and I have to say, this kind of content is perfect for your more hardcore players, but they’re removing it. It’s temporary.

This is insane. There is absolutely no legitimate reason (and I challenge any developer to give me one) to remove it. This is the kind of content this game needs to stay alive. Why not just remove some of it. Like some of the rewards and such, to make them far more special. Why remove the entire thing?

It looks like so much fun and the little 1v1 fight is perfect for hardcore players who want to challenge themselves. This is something we have been crying out for, something challenging, rewarding and permanent, but for some silly reason you skipped out on the last bit.

Why remove it? What is so aweful about keeping it? What possible negative impact could it have? I challenge any ArenaNet employee to answer these questions. Sure, it might be coming back later, but what if I want to play it in a month? What about 2 months? What about 3?

Is any of this stuff going to be permanent? What’s hard about making SAB permanent? What’s hard about making Labyrinthine Cliffs permanent (and just remove the sanctum). Why? This is just a giant middle finger to your players.

This is clearly a core feature of this update and you’re removing it in 4 weeks. What about the staff who worked on this game? Isn’t it a little bit unfair to them that something they worked on (and is clearly more quality than a large amount of the game) is simply being removed later, with the possibility of it being introduced at a later date. I’d be furious.

Why do these decisions keep being made?

CoF farm

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

I don’t think I am gonna enjoy game making max 3 gold a day trying to get precursor in next 2 years, while others got their for a month or less just because Anet wasn’t smart enough to understand that they are pleasing old audience and making life hard for those who came later.

As someone who has a Legendary (and for a lot of the money I did farm CoF quite a bit, because I was still a scrub) if you think obtaining a legendary is actually just “Farm CoF” then you’re doing it wrong.

A legendary is not about “COF COF COF $$$$ P1 ZERK WAR ONLY FARMING FOR 3HRS+”

This is the inherit problem of legendaries currently. They cost money, not time and skill. If you’re ONLY farming CoF P1 for your Legendary then you aren’t getting a legendary, you’re getting a fancy skin and that’s it.

Besides if you “get good” then you can actually make more money (depending on how much certain paths reward) with this update by completing other dungeons like CoE and Arah. Let’s say CoE rewards 1.5g for path 1 and 2g for path 2 and 3. All up that would take a skilled group an hour, maybe an hour and a half. That’s 5.5g. Now include drops. That’s maybe 6.5g. Now include a possible charged core or two (usually you’re looking at atleast 1 per 3 paths if you’re unlucky). That’s 7.5g. Now include 180 tokens which can be converted into rares, that’s 6 rares, on average about 6 ectos. Let’s say that’s around 1g for the ectos. Maybe less maybe more.

So for 1 – 1.5 hours, you’ve made 8.5g and that’s assuming you get NO RARES OR EXOTICS and only 1 charged core. If you get a rare or two, which usually happens, it goes up. If you get a lodestone, you get upwards of 10g.

For an extremely good group you’re looking at around 7 – 10g an hour, not including rare drops, with the current CoF farm. However this isn’t even fun. You’re playing the same content over and over and over for an hour. It’s not challenging and requires no thought and you can semi-afk it.

Tell me what’s more stimulating to you. Tell me what you’d rather do. CoF, pre-patch or CoE, post patch. I know what I’d do.

I’m so glad they’re putting this in. It rewards players who don’t just COFCOFCOFCOFCOF.

Why should you get mass amounts of gold for mindlessly pressing 2 in a dungeon that takes 6 minutes, when I get much much less in a dungeon that actually requires a small amount of skill?

This update is actually rewarding players who take on harder content. If you’re crying about “CoF nerf” then you’re part of the problem with GW2.

Do other things in game, who knows, you might even enjoy it.
