On to other matters. I have a question about the elder dragons. Why are the six dragons all concentrated on such a small portion of the globe? We know Tyria, the planet, is actually quite large compared to the continent. Why are they all so close together?

Most likely because, based on current knowledge, that’s where the last few races that survived ended up. Given that they wish to consume everything, it makes sense that as the food source moves/runs out, so would they. Essentially they may have all followed the races to Tyria or just eaten everything everywhere else.

Also the Bloodstone, which is essentially the same concept.

Ah good ol’ Avatar of Dwayna. I always preferred running VoS burst builds on my Dervish.

I’ve been thinking more and more about magic and it essentially having primary and sub schools. It fits very nicely into the old schools of magic, where you have Denial, Aggression, Destruction and Preservation, though apparently this is no longer a thing according to that dreaded interview.

I’d say Leadership and Inspiration are in a similar school. That said, Balthazar is said to have domain of Battle, perhaps Leadership is actually a sub-school of Battle magic, which would in turn summarise Anger/Strength/Andrenaline (I still don’t consider Anger to be a good term for the Warrior’s school, given there’s no reference to rage or anger, just Adrenaline which is more about Energy build up and Strength (consider that an Adrenaline hit irl usually doesn’t normally have a lot to do with Anger itself), though I understand it’s the same as a “rage” mechanic in other games.). This would also fit the Guardian quite nicely as well, as a lot of their magic is based around controlling a battlefield, potentially even Necromancer as it’s utilizing a lot of area denial skills in GW2. Perhaps Spirit and Death or Spirit and Life could be under similar schools here as well.

I think the more the domains can be compressed, the better.

Jormag would have to be absolutely enormous, perhaps one of the biggest. Look a the size of his tooth. Compare that to say, the tail of Zhaitan. His tooth is around 2 or 3 times as long as Zhaitan’s tail is thick. I’d say Jormag could possibly be the largest.

Mind you, this does bring up another interesting consideration… what domains do the professions seem to have?

If we’re talking PURELY magic based and having their own domains not necessarily relating to Gods and Dragons.

Elementalist: Fire, Water, Air, Ice, Earth, Healing
Engineer: None
Guardian: Battle, Light, Order, Healing
Mesmer: Mind, Chaos
Necromancer: Death, Cold, Darkness, Sacrifice(?)
Ranger: Nature, Growth, Survival, Animals
Thief: Shadow, Death, Mind, Shadow
Warrior: Inspiration, Strength

Hrrrmn. Technically speaking, Inspiration is associated with Mesmers. I see what you’re trying to achieve there, though – may I suggest Leadership instead?

I’m also not sure I’d apply Healing to any of the GW2 professions. They have it, but it’s not especially strong (compared to GW1 healers), and ALL of them have it.

What I’d probably have, based on your list, is:

GW2:
Elementalist: Fire, Water, Air, Cold, Earth, Energy
Engineer: None
Guardian: Force, Light, Spirit, Leadership
Mesmer: Mind, Illusion, Chaos, Energy, Force
Necromancer: Death, Cold, Darkness, Sacrifice, Spirit
Ranger: Fire, Water, Air, Cold, Earth, Plants, Animals, Spirit
Thief: Darkness, Mind
Warrior: Leadership, Anger

GW1:
Elementalist: Fire, Air, Cold, Earth, Energy
Mesmer: Mind, Illusion, Chaos, Energy
Monk: Healing, Light, Force
Necromancer: Death, Cold, Darkness, Sacrifice, Anger
Ranger: Fire, Air, Water, Animals, Spirit
Warrior: Leadership, Anger
Assassin: Darkness, Death, Mind
Ritualist: Spirit, Death, Healing, Sacrifice
Dervish: Cold, Earth, Light, Healing, Death
Paragon: Leadership, Light, Healing, Energy

Note that I haven’t assigned ‘Water’ to GW1 elementalists. This is to draw a line between the majority of GW1 ‘water’ magic working to freeze the enemy, and the healing properties of water magic mostly introduced in GW2… but presaged by the Ranger’s Healing Spring.

I kinda want to give Leadership to GW1 necros as well, but I’m not sure whether it’s appropriate to link shouts to orders in that way or not.

I see Leadership or Inspiration. I was thinking along the lines of paragon shouts, but I know Inspiration Magic is a thing given GW1 Attribute lines and we have some Warriors (or at least Koss) in GW1 praying to Lyssa. That said, so is Leadership with Paragons. I would argue that Leadership is probably derived from Inspiration magic, as Leaders are arguably there to inspire their followers to follower them.

I don’t quite see where you’re getting Anger from though. I say Strength because everything about the class is focused on making them and their allies stronger, as opposed to say a guardian which focuses more on defensive buffs. Strength is also Warrior’s primary attribute in GW1, whereas there is no indication of Anger being part of the class. Are you getting mixed up with Adrenaline?

I thought about Healing, but each class uses their own sort of healing magic. For example, a Necromancer heals entirely differently to say a Guardian or Elementalist. Maybe this is where the mixing of two particular forms of magic come into play, but I’d definitely say Warrior healing magic is total different to say that of a Guardian’s.

I don’t really see where you get Leadership from with the Necromancer class other than leading a minion group. If anything I’d Necromancer are more so classes that shy away from others, given what we’ve heard or has at least been implied about them.

I think the Attribute lines would be another good indication of magic uses in GW1 and to an extent, GW2 as well. There’s also damage types (Fire, Cold, Earth, Lighting, Holy, Dark, Shadow and Chaos). I’d say Holy is Light magic and Lighting could be considered Air (and maybe Energy).

Playing DV/violence against women for laughs

in Living World

tumblr is this way

Violence is violence and humour is humour. Just because something makes you uncomfortable doesn’t warrant it’s removal from the game or it’s adjustment. Nor is this misogynistic.

Should we now make all female characters and NPCs immune to damage because it might “trigger” people? No, because that would be silly.

Part of the Mad King’s narrative is that he’s totally bat kitten crazy and does stuff for laughs. It’s what makes him an interesting character, because he’s such a stark contrast against Tyria’s world.

To be honest I think Tyria could use a little more dark humour.

I opened about 45,000 ToT bags last night. 1500 bags were giving me around 10g profit and at worst no loss last night so I stayed up opening thousands of them hoping for something from them and I didn’t get any of the new amulets, everlasting tonic, or mini. Oh well, ended up with like ~50 stacks of Dragonite Ore and brought my magic find from 194 to 207.

Oh my god I feel so bad for you. That’s more than double what I’ve opened and I’m already fuming.

Just an update.

I’m currently up to ~15k bags opened with not a single mini in sight. Only loot worth noting was an Endless Tonic in my first few thousand.

For perspective, that’s around 1200g total.

~23k, no mini, no tonic, got recipe worth 1 silver.

Solution to fix the population imbalance

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

An alliance system is everything WvW needs right now.

You could also add “soft” alliances where players are assigned to automated alliances should they opt out. You could even do a system like the PvP hotjoin menus and custom arena type deals.

You get your base alliances and then you have your player made alliances.

I’m also going to touch on the subject of coverage. People are complaining about “night capping”. As an oceanic, this kind of comes across as stupid. I’m on Isle of Janthir, have been since beta. We have one of the largest non-T1 OCX communities. We’re still in T4. We’re rank 12. We’re getting beaten by servers with basically no oceanic coverage. It isn’t completely black and white. Just because you have a large OCX/SEA/EU base, doesn’t mean you’re going to steam-roll other servers.

Fixing Rapid Fire in 5 Easy Steps

Warrior: Endure Pain
Guardian: Wall of Reflection, Sanctuary, Bane Signet (active)
Engineer: Elixir S, Tool Kit’s Gear Shield
Ranger: Signet of Stone, Protect Me, Lightning Reflexes
Thief: Smokescreen, Scorpion Wire, Shadowstep (move behind them or some cover), Roll for Initiative
Elementalist: Arcane Shield, Lightning Flash (behind them or some cover), Mist Form
Mesmer: Feedback, Blink (behind them or some cover), Mantra of Distraction, Signet of Domination (active)
Necromancer: Corrupt Boon (if they have stability, it’ll fear them), Signet of Spite (active, though this is more for making them immediately try to back off due to no condition removal), Spectral Wall, Well of Darkness

That’s just the utilities alone, all of that can be used to deal with RF. If we add the weapon skills and class mechanics into the mix, it gets far bigger. All of the moves that deal with it are weaknesses and counters to RF.

Also, if the Ranger is doing godly damage with RF, it means they have no defense whatsoever. Survive RF, and then destroy the Ranger. If they have Protect Me and Signet of Stone, oh well, they bought themselves barely 6 seconds to survive. If RF comes back up, deal with it again and take them out, because that build cannot deal with somebody stopping all that power twice in a row.

Do you even understand how cool downs work?

Endure Pain has a 60s Cool-down. Most block skills have a 30+s cooldown. You’re also wrong in that all block skills other than Aegis block more than 1 hit. This is actually the exception to the rule. Most blocks will only block a single hit.

Sanctuary has a TWO MINUTE CD. Wall of Reflection and Bane Signet both have 40s CDs.

Blink and Lightning Flash don’t work because they don’t cause you to drop target and if you’re still in FoV the skill just tracks to your new position.

Corrupt Boon and Signet of Spite… I don’t even know where to begin with this.

Your “counters” don’t work because the one time I can stop the 5 – 20k damage from rapid fire with Endure Pain (or hopefully I’m not stupid enough to try with Sanctuary), I’m going to get hit another 5 times. Between that I’m receiving Auto-attacks, PBSs and Barrages.

High cool-down skills are not counter play to this.
Dodging without an adequate telegraph/wind-up is not adequate counter play. *
*All high reward skills should offer effective counter play and risk

Fixing Rapid Fire in 5 Easy Steps

in Profession Balance

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

A lot of people are calling this out as a “l2p” issue and that you should just dodge the skill. Rapid fire has no telegraph that it’s coming. This is something you see with every other high reward skill. Pin Down is the perfect example. It has a wind-up and telegraph, it gives players the ability to dodge it. This helps balance the skill.

Effective dodging requires a telegraph

Imagine if eviscerate didn’t have a telegraph. That would be incredibly overpowered.

If you think this a l2p issue, you clearly don’t understand the game. You can not legitimately argue that a skill offering more damage than Kill Shot, having no telegraph, an 8s recharge (quicker than standard endurance regen and about a fifth of the average reflect time), 1200 – 1500 range and tracking, coupled with stealth and knockback is balanced.

High reward skills should ALWAYS offer high risk. That creates balance. I challenge anyone in this thread to tell me how this skill and weapon is balanced

Fixing Rapid Fire in 5 Easy Steps

in Profession Balance

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

1) Add a 1s Pre-cast
2) Add a telegraph similar to Pin Down
3) Reduce range by 300 – 600 units
4) Increase recharge by 2 seconds
5) Remove vulnerability

There. Rapid Fire fixed.

It’s now easily dodgeable, requires some cost to the ranger, has the same recharge as a single dodge and doesn’t also stack vulnerability. It retains the same damage output and cast time and can still be used to snipe targets. Overall functionality is exactly the same.

And before the Rapid Fire Defence Force comes in with the arguments only Hotjoin Heroes would use:

Reflects are not a proper defence, as their recharge times are typically 30 – 40s and few classes have access to them
Dodging skills like Rapid Fire requires an actual telegraph
Volley does not do the same or more damage
Kill shot does not do the same or more damage
1500 Range does not allow for gap closing
Stability is not a valid counter to PBS given the recharge time
A skill with this much damage requires some kind of cost to use

So, any objections? As far as I’m concerned these changes would fix the weapon and make it reasonably balanced.

new tournament achievements are awful

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Basically removing the achievement requirement during a tournament is an experimental step we took to reduce the incentive for achievement grinding. We want people to play WvW, and not focus too heavily on satisfying achievement requirements.

If we find that players prefer having numerous things to check off a list, then we would certainly take that feedback into account and consider it for future tournaments.

Changing it to an events based system makes sense, however I think 5 events per week is a little too few. I can complete 5 WvW Events in about 10 minutes by myself. That hardly warrants “participation”

I think upping it to maybe 25 per week is a little fairer. In around 4 hours of WvW you’ll probably complete that many events, while still ensuring most people are actually participating for their rewards. You could even do a “tiered” system that gives rewards based on actual participation.

An idea: Replace WvW with Alliance v Alliance

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

The idea of an alliance system would work, however it needs to be larger scale than 3 guilds. The system they had in place for Guild Wars 1 worked quite well. A guild allies with one “side” and those sides fight.

There’s a bunch ways to transfer this system to Guild Wars 2, with all having problems of their own. I think choice, however, is important. One of the reasons why EotM doesn’t work is that along with the short match-ups and overflow system, there is no choice or sense of “loyalty”. You’re not fighting for Overgrowth, you’re just green. A change to the system needs to account for server/alliance/faction loyalty, as well as the flexibility that WvW currently lacks.

Here’s an example

We can use the AB names with addition of Imperials, just for simplicity.

A guild or individual could pick between Luxons, Kurzicks and Imperials. Each month you’d get an RNG set of guilds and players based on your choice, with a mini “tournament”. Every week, each Luxon, Kurzick and Imperial sub-alliance changes match-ups, with the Alliance that has the most total wins winning the match

That’s just one example. There’s so, so many ways to fix the current system. Hell even just combining servers would work. The population is currently spread a little too thin beyond T4 and match-ups are completely unbalanced, with some servers in the same tier able to queue all maps, and others that can’t even queue one.

WvW is basically broken at the moment and no amount of tournaments, trailers, siege masteries or photoshopped doritos will help it. It needs a proper rework. The game mode has incredible potential. It’s just being wasted.

What if Arching Slice was like this?

in Warrior

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Probably the best idea I’ve heard in a while, though the Fury could even stay how it is and it wouldn’t be a problem. We want the damage from the skill, not the Fury. Most GS builds have access to loads of Fury anyway via FGJ and SoR. The 5 – 10s is just a nice little extra from the skill.

100% from almost no damage is still low….

Nah, 100% damage from a 1.2 co-efficient is almost enough to make it worth using in a speed clear rotation. I think it falls just short of being a DPS increase, but this is full minmaxing we’re talking. the 2.4 Co-efficient would be a pretty great burst in AoE. Hell I’d even go as far as saying you could increase the cast time to what Final Thrust is.

Final Thrust hits for 3.0 under 50% and while its a cleave in a small cone, it’s still doing the damage of Eviscerate without having to spend any adrenaline. Granted, Sword does slightly less DPS than greatsword if you factor in well placed Whirlwinds and no 100b, but still. The skill definitely needs a buff.

It’s good for WvW… that’s about it.

High-end PvE player looking for guild [NA]

in Looking for...

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Hey guys!

I’ve recently decided to look for a guild that does high-end PvE, as well as the other PvE stuff. I’ve been looking for a while, but my requirements for a guild are quite specific.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

*Does fractals and dungeons
*Primarily late OCX – EU hours
*Doesn’t require regular representation (will get to this later)
*Laid back
*Can take a joke – No SJW guilds please
*Appreciates running quality builds in dungeons
*Reasonably large (20+ people online during specified hours)

With that said, there’s probably a few things you need to know about how I play in GW2. I’m one of the co-leaders of a WvW guild on IoJ. This take up the majority of my play time during the OCX hours and whenever I’m on during the NA hours. This is my “home” guild and I devote a lot of my time here. This is mainly why I can’t do a regular rep outside of the EU timezones. I don’t mind jumping on TS and vent. I love talking about buildcraft. I’m a 19 (20 soon woo!) year old Aussie, currently studying IT. I’m a generally laid back person and I enjoy joking about pretty much anything and everything.

Some other relevant GW2 stuff:
*13k AP
*Rank 35 tPvP
*Champion Legionnaire
*6 80s (main warrior)
*Level 50 FotM
*~5K Hours (a lot of that’s idling however)
*Played since Beta
*Was 50/50 GWAMM in GW1

So that’s me and what I’m looking for in a guild. The best way to contact me is in-game either via PM or mail. Thanks

Like… yeah.

Seriously though, most of the complaints are based upon people having to use the new system when making alts, when it’s directed at new players, not veterans. Allowing us to “turn off” the system would make a lot more sense as most players already understand utilties, elites, traits, etc by the time they have a level 80

“.If you miss, things still go on CD”

I thought adrenaline skills had a recharge when you missed just like the skills of every other class when they are used. Yes, it was a short recharge, but that functionality skill existed so your point is moot.

Pretty much every other classes skills recharge whether in combat or out of combat, warrior will be the only class where their best skills “de-charge” while out of combat.

Just stating the facts here.

You’re cherry picking. Read the rest of that sentence. If you miss with a shatter, your clones still die, if you miss with a DS skill, you still lose lifeforce, if you miss with a thief attack you still lose initiative. If you miss with an engi turret explosion, you still lose the tureet.

The classes that have purely CD based mechanics have nuch longer CDs, with maybe the exception of Ele.

I don’t like hitting lower damage every single patch. It’s boring.

I put all this through a calculator, you damage loss is tiny and what you lose on 100b and WWA you’re gaining on AS, when the enemy is below 50 you’re potentially pulling slightly more damage based on DPS calcs I did, however I’m not perfect.

I think it’s healthy for the weapon overall to move some damage from 100b to somewhere else. It makes it more useable in PvP and WvW too.

There appears to be a lot of complaining on the forums lately about the changes to adrenaline. I figured it’s probably worth trying to be the voice of reason, though these are the GW2 Official Forums, but hey, let’s give it a crack anyway.

The changes to adrenaline make sense when compared to every other profession. Simply put, Burst skills were far too forgiving. Look at every other profession mechanic. If you miss, things still go on CD and your clones/initiative/lifeforce still get drained.

By transitioning to this system, it means there is a higher skill level required to be effective. Gone are the days of just dumping an Earthshaker or Eviscerate whenever you like. Now you actually need to use them carefully.

Adrenaline diminishing outside of combat also makes sense. It was too easy to build up adrenaline and this system never really worked that great anyway.

To be perfectly honest, his is a good thing for our class. *It’s going to seperate the goods from the bads. I’ve logged over 4k hours on my warrior doing high end FotM, WvE and tPvP. These changes are positive things as it never made sense keeping your adrenaline anyway.

tl;dr if you’re QQing about the changes, you need to git gud.

Eviscerate and FT have a co-efficient (what defines the damage each skill does) of 3.0 at maximum effectiveness.

AS will be 2.6

AS should do around 90% of the damage an Eviscerate, except in full AoE.

I could potentially hit harder than them based on Weapon Strength (GS is higher than axe and sword), however I haven’t done those calculations.

Think of AS like a 5 target Final Thrust with a bigger AoE or an Eviscerate that doesn’t require more than 1 bar of adrenaline to deal max damage.

Need Help with conversion to WvW build

in Warrior

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

If you link your current build, that gives us a little more to work with. For now I’m going to assume you’re full zerk scholar 6/5/0/0/3 or something to that effect.

Weapons are going to determine your build. You’re probably going to be very glassy, so I’m going to suggest Greatsword/Hammer. This is an excellent weapon choice for Destroyer Warriors.

I’m quite fond of the 0/4/4/0/4 spec, with 2 points left to place anywhere (I recommend either Burst Mastery or Defy Pain/Merciless Hammer). This offers fantastic damage (note: perma 25 Might > 10% damage on GS)

You can swap out your trinkets. I’d maybe recommend aiming for at least 20k HP and getting as much toughness as possible. Try to keep a nice balance between crit chance and damage. If you’ve only got 30% crit chance, don’t bother with having 210% crit damage. Balance it out to around 50% chance, 200% damage. A great way to do this is balance Knight’s, Cavalier’s and Valkyrie gear. Your best bet for stats is achieving around 2.8k Armour (or 2.9k if you run at least 1 point in Defense as the 100 toughness automatically adds to your stat window and is only really up for 1 hit).

I’d recommend by starting out with your amulet and rings or your rings and trinkets. Soldiers is pretty much the easiest way to get your stats up and then adding in a Cav and Knight’s ring with Beryl jewels (or go ascended).

Food is another fantastic way of increasing your survivability.

Here’s a build that might work for you:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJARSj8c0FalH+dwJaAmgCdnPBfwxEIAUWFTBA-TVDBwAGVCdUZgSlGLVisw8hElgY3fAwjAAn6P51Fw4IAkwEWgLAApAkVYE-w

It’s just 4 new trinkets and some jewels. Cost should be around 10 – 15g.

Most of the builds posted should work pretty well (except the one above me, sorry it’s just… fall damage? Movement speed? C’mon man…)

Good luck with your build and if you want further help, just shoot me a message in-game and I’m happy to help.

GS hasn’t had a nerf. It’s a 5 percent reduction to 100b and WW, but Arcing Slice is AoE and now has a 2.6 modifier while under 50%

The only time this change will ever matter is PvE and you can bet your kitten that Arcing Slice is probably going to be part of most good rotations, as bosses will be at <50% for a long time.

For PvP/WvW, the nerf to 100b and WW sort of make sense. 100b is slighty more bearable if you get caught out via a stun or immobilize and WW isn’t quite as hard hitting, however they buffed Arcing Slice to actually make a really great impact in a fight if used properly and effectively.

A 2.6 co-efficient is actually really high. If you run the right build, that’s going to drop a squishie or medium class down to nearly 0% HP, as it can hit upwards of 10k.

GS is pretty much insane for WvW. You can drop 10k in full 5 target AoE. If you get a 3 warriors doing that you can pretty much 1-shot a backline after you make your first pass through.

The changes make sense and this is coming from a high-end PvE player, a Champ Legionnaire and a driver of a WvW guild. I’ve got over 4k hours on my warrior. I don’t know why people are complaining. Pretty much every change to warrior makes sense, maybe with the exception of SoR, but even then they’re making room for other elites to become a more attractive option.

I wonder what would happen if we turned this into a match-up thread.. would it be closed then?

Let’s find out.

It’s been about 3 or so weeks of fighting CD and HoD. They’ve been some interesting match-ups. Great fights with a lot of guilds, we even recorded some of it.

I’ve gotta say though this match-up looks pretty set, like every other. HoD, have you guys given up yet? I’d love to get more footage of my guild fighting you guys, though unfortunately the only bigger fights worth recording and uploading have been against CD.

It also looks like T1 is super close right now, less than 10k between each server. It’ll be interesting to see who pulls ahead this round. If JQ loses, it looks like SoS may make a push to T1 given their current match-up (already 40k ahead of FA). I’m betting there’s been some great fights in both match-ups I bet they’d make WvW look really fun

Warrior Mobility Predications

in Warrior

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Here’s my realistic, very likely to happen predictions:

- Greatsword 5 ‘Rush’ range brought down to either 900-1000 range, from 1200.
- Greatsword 3 ‘Whirlwind Attack’ brought down to 300 from 450 range. (Possible)
- Hammer Burst ‘Earthshaker’ range brought to 450 from 600 range (Possible)

I’d love these changes, with the exception of Earthsaker. I think Rush needs to be brought down in range, but it also needs to be fixed. I’d also like to see this skill become AoE, similar to Ranger GS 3, except bring it’s damage down.

WWA range reduction would be fantastic, especially if they maintain the damage and hits. It allows the attack to be much more reliable for Damage output. It’s rare that you actually get the final hit off unless you’re against a wall, so this would be nice.

My gripe with the Earthshaker change is that 600 range isn’t really THAT far and the time it takes to close the gap means you should be able to dodge it and I rarely see anyone use it as an escape anyway. I think instead Savage Leap needs a nerf of about 150 – 200 units.

Do all this and I think Warrior mobility will be in a better place.

Ready Up: Balance Philosophy - 6/13 @ Noon PDT

in Profession Balance

From my perspective, this is what I feel the strengths and weaknesses are:

Strengths

Easy access to high damage output
High health and armour pool
Good mobility
Decent CC
Decent offensive support (might, fury, banners, etc.)
Good personal sustain
Decent ability to go hybrid
Great burst

Weaknesses
Limited offensive un-traited conditions (1 torment, several bleeds & 2 burning) – I’m not exactly an authority on this as my condition play on warrior has been the least I’ve played
Extremely low defensive support. – No Aegis, very few condi clears in comparison to other classes unless runes are used, heals and regen are garbage.
Soft CC (chill, cripple)
Limited counter against ranged characters (i.e. P/P thief, longbow ranger etc.)
Extremely limited access to retaliation
Very low boon-hate/boon counterplay such as boon-stripping/converting. DotE is good though
Heavily balanced towards burst over sustain damage
An entire line of (mostly) useless utilities. Physical skills are garbage for everything but 1v1s.

Kryptonite
High weakness to poison (maintaining poison on a healing signet warrior or putting it on a warrior about to use healing surge is their death sentence)
Immobilize
Condition burst

I’d honestly say warrior is best at melee offense. I think that’s where it’s role is, going on the offensive. It really lacks support, but I think that’s okay. I’d honestly say that maybe it’s sustain could go down a bit though. Healing Signet really needs to drop as it’s way too easy to maintain that heal. Also our mobility seriously needs to drop. I think the problem here lies with Rush. Make this around 600 range, give it an AoE like the guardian and it’s sweet.

Just merge the bottom servers

in WvW

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Ditch the server system. Make an alliance system. Run it alongside a Megaserver/EotM match-up system with alliance match-ups and regular match-ups.

Done. Everything about WvW match-ups are fixed. PuGs are happy, guilds are happy. Nightcapping goes away. Being forced to work with jerks/trolls on a server goes away. Being forced to work with hardcore/casual players goes away. Coverage goes away. Population size imbalance goes away.

Literally every problem with the current match-up system can be fixed by just giving us player made alliances (or maybe some form of guild-level association system).

Stacks disappear underwater

mexay.3902

Occurs everywhere. This is needs to be fixed. Think about keeps such as Bay in WvW or dungeons such as Arah, where you’re forced to go underwater.

The change to sigils was fair, but the side effect of removing stacks like this is pretty crap. The sooner the fix the better. ATM, you need to have 2 sigils to maintain stacks, which is pretty kitten expensive

Fractal drops were broken on the 3/18 patch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

Why hasn’t this been addressed yet? This is ridiculous.

This whole fractals debacle is a load of crap.

First we get our level reset, because of leaderboards.
Then the leaderboards aren’t released
Then we find out that the Fractal Weapon Box we were promised in the patch notes isn’t even in the game.
Then we’re told the fractal skin rate is going to increase
Then we find out it has actually decreased

This isn’t even touching on the fact that doing a level 50 fractal awards the same amount of gold as any AC path. Sure, if you add in the rares and exotics, you get maybe 3 gold from a run, but in the time it takes to run a 50, I can smash out AC123 and CoF run, netting me upwards of 6 gold. If it’s a long 50 I could probably get 10g+ in that time.

What’s going on Anet? This should be fixed by now or at least give us an answer.

You're Not Zerker?! *kicks from party*

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

mexay.3902

It’s simple, stop joining groups that ask for zerkers. Stop expecting to be able to run your crappy 1/5/3/2/5 builds on your rangers in FotM 49.

It comes down to understanding the content. PvE is all about damage with the way the AI works. Yes, you can run other specs and it works, but it takes far longer and it’s ultimately pointless. Toughness and Vitality are incredibly selfish stats. They are simply there to allow you to make more mistakes, that’s it.

The only time you’ll be kicked is if you join the wrong group. Join casual runs and you wont have a problem.

List The Best Commander or Your Favorite

in WvW

mexay.3902

Island of Janthir does not have a SINGLE good commander! Why, the other day a commander was RAGING about “Only 3 people on tag? Really?” WHILE everyone else was roaming, but no one had the GUTS to tell him that was because his COMMANDING simply sucks DDDDDDD:

Mrs Starkk, Agens Leti, Nudibranch, Ried Stonefist, Counter Barrier (before he transferred), Slater Alligator, Lydo, Hex (when he actually does it). Those are just a fraction of the quality commanders on IoJ. We actually have a hell of a lot of great commanders on this server who know their stuff and who, when needed, will often tag for literally hours to get kitten done.

You may have just had a bad experience. Not all people are equipped to lead and not everyone is going to be good at it their first few (hundred) times. The people I named have been at it for a long time or have had extensive training and mentoring. I know I was pretty crappy when I first started, and look at me now! I’ve finally stopped leading zergs off cliffs… at least some of the time :P

GS/Hammer Build Help

Works fantastic in my guild composition. You want to be using Signet of Fury to pop Earthshaker or get the full heal from Healing Surge. Other than that, leave Signet of Fury alone. You can use pretty much any combination of Spiker Armour/Defy Pain/Merciless Hammer/Cleansing Ire. I’m currently testing out Merciless Hammer + Defy Pain, however I used to run Spiked Armour and that was quite nice. Cleansing Ire + Merciless Hammer is probably your go to option though unless you have lots of condi clears.

Be careful with trying to use 100b in a zerg scenario. Stationary = Dead. You should probably go for this chain (most enemies don’t make it all the way before dying)

Hammer F1, Hammer 4, Hammer 5 -switch- GS 2 (halfway) GS 3, GS 4.

That should do a huge amount of damage. Throw in Hammer 2 and 3 when you can,

It puts out insane damage. It doesn’t have stability, so if you aren’t in the correct group comp, switch your utilities around a little.

The armour is very mish-mash, but I did that to acquire the spread of stats I wanted. You may prefer full zerk trinkets and full cav armour or some other version. I suggest if you’re running Ham/GS you run for high precision and high crit damage. Aim for at least 80% crit chance.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

I’d just like to say that I think the new trait system is great and it’s made me want to make a new character, even though I’ve got 6 80s already.

I think that giving players a reason to explore the world via this new trait system is great. It creates a sense of character progression and achievement. Unlocking every trait on a character is no longer just “get to 80”. You have to work for it now, which is awesome.

I also think that moving the trait system up to level 30 is awesome. Level 10 was probably a bit too soon and players didn’t get a chance to understand the mechanics of the game yet anyway. Pushing it to 30 gives them that opportunity to focus on Weapon and Utility skills first.

My only issue with the new trait system is that it doesn’t feel varied enough. I know that several of my guildies were talking about “that ship in Orr” to get a GM trait. We were all talking about different classes. I’d like to see more varied placing of traits for classes and more unique ways to acquire them.

For example, several Earth traits for Elementalist might require you to mine a specific amount of Ores in a particular area or a Necromancer Death Magic trait might require you to raise a particular minion at a graveyard. Make the location and activity relevant to the trait and profession. Make it fun and interesting. There’s definitely a lot of potential here.

The Cataclysm Tapped into Ley Lines

in Lore

Posted by: mexay.3902

mexay.3902

-snip-

The only reason I bring Abaddon up is when you read the Orrian Scrolls it implies that he knew a great deal more than the other five Gods, granted it’s what “passed beyond in the mists”, but this kind of stuff gets implied a lot when it comes to him and I’m often left with impression he wasn’t really a giant kitten who went insane. He’s the God of Secrets (and associated with Knowledge) so one would assume that he’d know about the Ley Lines. I get the impression that once you tamper with a ley line it goes “kaboom”, or at least has the potential to do so. I know this has been brought up a few times over the past and is far from the best theory, but perhaps he also knew about the dragons and that there’s the potential to maybe not wake them, but prod them, when you screw with the ley lines. I guess what I’m getting at is perhaps there is some connection between Abaddon and the Dragons? It’s an extremely long stretch, but I wouldn’t dismiss the idea entirely.

I think a lot of the Cataclysm and the Ley Lines have to do with how magic works and such. For example, is that magic from the blood stones seperate from the Ley Lines or does it interact. Do we have any other examples of Ley Line interaction? The concept art for the Foefire’s Heart shows a bright blue light. This is probably just a coincidence, but Ascalon is also another place that strikes me as being relatively magical, maybe there’s an intersection there?

Scarlet's ultimate goal still unrevealed(?)

Lazarus for two reasons: 1) The mursaat had fled the world to let the Elder Dragons ravage it before, wiping out an entire race (almost) as they did so (the Seers), and when they returned they returned portraying themselves as the Unseen Ones – as gods. They returned intending to rule, it seems. It would not be unlikely for this to happen again. 2) The Aftermath instance in The Dead End formally introduces Belinda Delaqua, whom hints at the Season 2’s direction (IMO): west, dealing with black market dealers who base themselves in Brisban Wildlands. Sounds familiar? Fort Vandal is run by bandits, and bandits are run by the White Mantle. And who runs the White Mantle? Mursaat. Thus I suspect Season 2 will be returning to GW1 lore in the form of Lazarus, and may be tied into Season 1 via being the entity.

I distinctly remember mailing you about this a while ago you brushing it off as unlikely :P
