I want to ask you something.Will Defiance be redesigned?Is there any plan for it at all?Because right now it is removing the need of any CC in the fights.If raids come will interrupts,stuns,fear become an actual mechanic?Will they be more useful from now?

I agree with you Blaeys.3102 i will also add a few things:

  • Interrupt
  • Coundition cleansing from the raid
  • Boons applying to the raid
  • Reflects

Those things must be part of the raid.

- autoattacks used
- boons avoided
- enemies tagged
- Number of Journeyman/Masterwork/Rare/Exotic drops
- Champ bags farmed
- Knockbacks
- Fears

These seem more appropriate for the game’s target demographic.

Anet dont need to assign roles for raids. They are already there. They just need to create content which encourages specialisation in different areas. For example. A boss that requires a lot of interrupts to avoid an op enrage attack. Or a boss that spawns adds which are weak to condition damage but resistant to direct damage. These things dont force anyone but they do force the raid group to change their strategy and maybe change parts of their builds to suit each encounter.

All classes can do all roles (more or less). So theres no need for defining roles. Just give us reasons to alter our specialisations a bit more or force us to change our utilities more. And just to make it clear. This has nothing to do with gear type. Gear is irrelevant in roles except from when switching to condition damage from direct damage.

I agree with this.Tequatl is perfect example.

I love dmg meters like WoW’s recount because i can go to a dummy and practice different builds and spells.That way i can see what is working and what isn’t.What i’m doing wrong and what right.What rotation is gooad what isn’t.

A dmg meter must be more than pure dps.It should have the following things:

  • dmg done
  • dmg taken
  • dmg resisted (agony)
  • DOT
  • HOT
  • Healing done
  • OverHealing done
  • Reflects
  • Absorbs
  • Interrupts
  • CC cleansing
  • Parry
  • Block
  • Dodge

The problem is that GW2 is having the most casual players of all MMOs that i have played.So i don’t see such competitive tool to be added at all.For guilds it will work great but PUGs may complain.

Right, that’s why I’m saying devs have to assign role slots to raids, whatever that makeup/percentage may be of support, damage,control.

As much as i’d love to have roles added with the raid I see why that won’t happen.Aggro in GW2 is non-existent.In other MMOs ther is a tank who can hold te aggro.In GW2 bunkers can’t hold the aggro at all.Saying that more toughness will guarantee the aggro to be on you is just a myth.

Of the current roles that exist (support,control,damage) in instances only 1 is viable at this moment.And that is pure dmg.Anet has 1st to revamp how are working the condition builds.Then they have to make bunkers and healing builds more viable.

Why i like Tequatl so much?Because he is not critable.So bringing zerker is pointless.But having healer in the group is actually nice.

Somebody in this thread was talking about bosses from Wildstar a few days ago, and I decided to watch some stream and videos of groups doing some boss attempts.
What I like about the boss design of those are, there is so much to do!
The first link I posted shows a boss that has adds/things spawning around the room, some people have to go though a teleporter to get to the top floor and kill some mobs there for a reason I dont know and so much more (It looks like that to me, I dont know the fight at all)
Their combat system is very simmilar to gw2 combat, and if we want a challenging raid smaller size ofc, we can learn from some of those encounters!
I will post a boss fight tomorrow when I have an idea for one xD Still trying to think of something that forces you to dodge alot, be aware of your surroundings, use interrupts, have adds come in that makes huge aoe if not killed and much more.
Really, watch atleast one video (link 1 and 3 is best) and see just how much is going on with effects on the ground, mobs and more!
Sorry for involving another game into this discussion.

Wildstar has great raid and dungeon encounters,bosses.Killing the trash is actually quite rewarding..The animations are well telegraphed and seen.Special boss attacks are not instant hits and are perfectly shown.GW2 developers should learn something from Wildstar raids.Their developers did an awesome job with the different fights and encounters.

I foresee logistical issues with saved progress. Specifically, that just adds to the number of sessions where you have to get all the same people together before you can continue what you were doing. If it doesn’t have to be the same people, then there is the problem of who “controls” the save? Who gets to continue deeper in the raid when they feel like it even if those who helped get that far are left out?

If we need to have longer and more complex scenarios that do take several sessions, then perhaps it should be in the form of unlocks rather than saved stages. Even then I can imagine a lot of divisions coming from leaving some behind. Or should it be like the LS where if you’ve made it to a certain point you can invite others along regardless of their progress? Though that assumes the ones who missed a session will be able to find a large enough group to continue. And that they’ll be welcome in later parts of the raid if they didn’t help in the middle parts.

The more people you have to gather to do specific content, the greater the problem in repeatedly gathering them.

I don’t know why Anet are so consistent on reinventing the wheel.Just to stick to what is working already.To make the same system for raid lock outs like the rest of the MMOs and that’s it.

I have a question

Ppl say nobody should be carried/ pull there weight in those raids.

So how is that monitored/ controlled ?

Without a dps meter how we know who is been carried by 20 people?

By not inviting strangers in the group and play with people who you know well.

Raids must never be made only for people that you know.They have to be made with having in mind the pugs too.You can’t know every random pug that you invite your group out there.

Dps meter/Recount and inspect function is a must for a MMO.If it lacks those things then you can’t be certain who you will be grouped with.In other MMOs i can fast look through a few tabs – gear/achievements/progression + dps meter.

Looks like this game is left with the zerkers only like oxtred.7658.Now i understand why tanks and healers have left long time ago and why the game PvE is so stagnant.
Any way looks like i will just wait for Anet to finish with their Raid CDI.I really adore the things that are discussed there.

Come back when you know the actual meta strats. Liadri is a solo fight, she better have the aggro on you all the time. Go back to ranging bosses, but don’t think you’re experienced enough to speak about balance.

Oooo i know perfectly what i’m talking about.I run more than enough speed clears with a pre-made every day.I never pug.The aggro in GW2 is one big mess which anet have thrown in the bin.

The problem with stacking is that there isn’t any good aggro mehanic.By removing the holy trinity Anet also removed the aggro that was hold by the tank.By doing that they encouraged maximizing your dps and speed clears.Pulling bosses to corners is the most efficient way to hold the aggro and have the maximum dps possible.Such example is the Spider Queen in AC(1st boss).Kill or be killed(by her aoe if you are not fast enough).

Why Marionete and Liadry are great fights?Because the aggro there is perfectly hold.When Anet created GW2 and removed the Trinity they didn’t take in account how the aggro will be spread accross the group.

Anet made zerkers/bunkers/Condition builds but in PvE only the 1st one is really viable because the aggro can’t be hold perfectly so the bosses have to die faster.
On another note by removing the tank Anet encouraged range fight more.Perfect examples are some of the last bosses in FotM.

Before even start thinking how to make a Raid encounter developers have to turn their eyes on the squad sytem and rethink how it is working.

Proposal OverviewMore UI assistance for organisers + Metaevent Information
I personally feel the UI doesn’t assist players enough with the more technical detail’s of the ‘mega-organised’ events. We need to UI to give us more information in a concise and clear manner. How many players are on each wurm ‘stack’? What is the role of these players? Is amber Wurm burning right now? How many turrets are manned at Tequatl? How many are defending the Vigil Megalaser?

Proposal 1 functionalityExpand Squad Functionality
The commander’s need advanced functionality to designate roles to players that all players map-wide can see. Think of WoW-style raid icons. For GW2, im thinking of a buffs commanders can apply, (self-removable by the player if they want of course) so players can see “Ok, this guy is a Condition Dealer and he kills husks”. “This guy is the turreter”. We can restrict this ability to players only within the commanders squad. Also, put the number of players in the squad inside the commander pin icon. This number is readable by all players not just the commander.

Additionaly, think of commander placeable in-game markers, for example, to show players where to stand or where to put their damage. There are currently basic map markers but in-world markers would be so much more useful and immediately apparent. Green arrow – Move here. Red arrow – Attack here. I think WvW commanders should be excited about this. These icons would be visible and contrasting enough to stand out amongst a large group of players.

His ideas are spot on.I will give my thoughts about it too.There are a few things that are need for a raid/squad group:

  • Raid leader is the most important thing.
  • A UI for the whole squad must be created.On it you can see every member that is in the squad.Where is that player at the current moment and what class is playing.
  • The class must have a specific colour and an icon next to the name in the UI panel.
  • On the Raid UI must be seen how many members are in the group.
  • RL and assistance must be able to move players from one party frame to another.1 squad is made of 50 people.8 groups * 5 people make that number.RL must be able to move freely members for instance from group 1 to group 6.That way specific roles can be assigned more easily.
  • Ground markers like these.Only RL and assistants can put them.

  • Also must be revamped the kick sytem.The current one must be gone and replaced.

Now i will talk a little about NPC,defiance,CC and DOT:

  • Revamp the defiance buff.First thing first remove the possibility bosses to be stun locked to death.
    The Second most important thing is how and what defiance does.Make an attack that can’t be dodged/blocked/parried/reflected or using a spell that will save you from the hit.The only possible way to stop it is by having a player who will interrupt it.Make the attack really visible.
    After that the rest of the group has to remove defiance stacks before they are hitted by the same attack again.At this moment almost 90% of the bosses don’t need to be CCed at all,because you can avoid every their spell with active mitigation.That way bosses’s attacks are negated easily and people focus only on DPS.Which is wrong.
  • Make boss’s animations more visible and telegraphed.
  • Add more mechanics for CC.
  • Add boon removal from buffed NPCs and more condition cleansing from the group when players are affected with it.
  • Revamp the dodge.Instead of mobs hitting instantly like it is now give time to press 2 buttons atleast(W+dodge/S+dodge/D+dodge/A+dodge) so i can move in the direction that i want.

The best MMO out there is WoW and will be WoW for a long time.Just look at this article:

TLDR – the 4th most successfull game for 2014 by reveneu is WoW.Making $728 millions.For a 10 year old game it is still the most successfull MMO out there.People may love it or hate it but the money can’t lie.GW2 is a good game.I can’t denie that but it’s not the best MMO on the market.

I’ll repeat it as many times as it is needed.Having a party leader is a must in instances.Without it is really messy.
I’m against instance owners and i don’t want that system to return.It was and is an awful design.

It’s too bad people don’t really get the whole business plan of games.

I used to work in the publishing industry and books are the same way. It doesn’t mean a book that doesn’t do as well as a new book, or the second most popular book isn’t doing well, just because interest is less two years after its been published.

Your comment shows a lack of understanding of the entertainment industry.

Anet is everything else but not a good company when they can’t deliver enough content or features.The game is lacking in almost every aspect(WvW/PvP/Dungeons/Loot).Only the LS is well made.

How long took them to make only 1 new WvW map or the LFG tool or new dungeon?When i compare GW2 (content,features,realeasing time) to GW1.Well The 1st game is just miles ahead.Yes GW2 has some better things.But that is something expected from a newer game.What is NOT expected nor tolerated is Anet’s fixes of things that are not broken to begin with.Or things that other MMOs already found that they are working great and Anet just refuuses to add them in GW2.For example these two:

How can a 10 year old game have a better markers than GW2’s piece of crap.Even Rift had them from the start.Only Anet can’t make what every other MMO has.For instance raid frames for the squads and better leader’s control over the group.Other MMOs have such things by deafault in them.Only GW2 is missing it after 2 long years.

People will get their moneys worth for the game.But they just won’t stick with it.For now its end game is just lacking and it doesn’t have that thing that makes people to return to WoW or EvE even after 10 years.

That’s why we deserve less events, why? Because after every major update, you see at least 15 poisonous topics where the HATE is the main subject. Why you are still here? You hate the game, even if it’s on the top5 or top3? Fine, go somewhere else.

I personaly am here on the forums because i like the game.But i find that it is severly lacking hard core end game.And i refuse to give Anet even 1$ if i don’t see something added for the veteran players.I wpn’t buy anyting from the game shop untill Anet start to care more for me and players like me that actually want more things for WvW/PvP/PvE that are NOT LS.

There’s an easy fix for this personal story problem: Let’s say you’re a human and finished ps up to lvl 20. You change to norn, ps gets reset and you do not get rewards for ps until lvl 20. If you finished the whole ps as a human, everything is reset and if you decide to do the ps as norn, you don’t get rewards at all. Because I’m sure their problem is that people would get more rewards for ps. Problem solved, Anet makes more money by selling race changes.

I am saying this as a person who has 3 rangers because I couldn’t make up my mind about the race, hahaha! I definitely don’t need race change anymore but MANY people ask for it all the time so why not work on something the players actually want?

Probably not because every race is connected with story line so it’s not easy just to make race change because if they make that possible they would probably need to make changes to a lot of game content and I don’t think that’s worth their time to do.

If you ask me there is easy fix to this.Just erase the old PS.Then just give new fresh one to the player.It’s not needed the player to play through it just let him choose the end of each one.

I know some people are very interested in raids.

But a lot of people aren’t.

My big concerns for raids are:

1) How many resources are they going to take away from other content? There are still significant areas of the game that need improvement (also, better process management and QA/bugfixing, which takes developer resources).

2) GW2 has a focus on easy content access – not requiring large guilds to play content, easy grouping, de-emphasizing the standard combat roles to favor flexible group formation, etc. This design was a big part of why I purchased GW2. I worry that raids would encourage tensions between focused players and more general players, which are already stressful, and gate off content behind large guilds.

3) How much will raids impact the ability to do existing dungeons? If all or most of the focused dungeon runners move on to new content, will that effectively make dungeon running much harder? Since dungeons are required for PvE goals like legendaries and some armor, I can see this being a major roadblock to people without large enough guilds.

It would be great for GW2 to have content for more player types. Some players aren’t satisfied with the current dungeon content – OK, that should be addressed. But I’m wary of content that could deepen the divide between some groups of players. There’s always going to be people who need more content or harder content or better farming areas, ad infinitum. I’d rather the game didn’t cater to any niche group. I think GW2 has a good balance going at the moment and don’t want to lose that to favor 1 playstyle over another.

Random closing thought – what if WvW could be improved for group combat or add raid-style content?

What other content?There hasn’t been any new dungeon over a year.WvW and PvP has been forgotten.Where is the ballance or new maps for those modes?If you ask me Anet are focusing their resources not the right way.

Souldbound items should be transferable between characters in the same account.

I have 3 soulbound exotic armors from my engineer and 1 souldbound exotic armor from my mesmer. All are from leveling reward or karma. I can not salvage, except sell it to vender.

I plan to throw it all in mystic forge but can not because one piece of armor from my mesmer can not transfer to my engineer.

Thoughts?

I disagree with you.BoP and BoA are not the same thing.The 1st one is bound to character that picked it the 2nd one is bound to your account.They are not the same thing and never will be.

Look at (part of) this community.
They hear the word raid and they freak out, crying bitter tears and screaming “I DON’T WANT RAIDS THIS IS NOT WOW THIS IS A GAME FOR CASUALS I DON’T WANNA I DON’T WANNA”.

Just because you say threadwin, doesn’t mean anything’s been won. Do you see the game getting much harder. I don’t. Do you want to know why? Because Anet knows what side the bread is buttered on.

The thread was lost the moment someone tried to convince the rest of us that the MMORPG playerbase largely consists of people who want hard/challenging content.

Maybe they should take the words RPG out of it, and just make it a fighting game. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Can’t wait till the new Raid content comes out.

I can’t wait till the new raid comes out too. Because it’s so not going to be what you’re expecting it to me. I’m going to be massively entertained at the outcry of people who think raiding is the raiding they new before. I’m pretty sure there’s zero chance that will be the case.

Of course it won’t be like the raiding i knew before.Why?Because the bloody holy trinity is not here.That is what makes raiding great in other MMOs and why dungeons in this game are such a mess.
I really like bosses like Wurm and Tequatl.They make you change specs and bring different builds that are NOT only zerker.I do those two bosses every day and i adore them.I really hope the future raids to be as hard as them or even more.If they are for less people will be great.Because at this time only huge organised guilds can do Wurm.

I’d like difficult content, but I would also like to be assured that I will receive appropriate rewards before investing the time & energy.

Tequatl is a good example: requires coordination and strategy (hard to do in a game with such terrible communication tools) and has a chance (probably less than 1 percent) of dropping something good. Why on earth would I want to invest the time (have to be on the map an hour early) for a nearly non-existent chance at a marginally cooler-looking skin?

Exactly this.The content and reward have to be on equal foot.

They have more challenging dungeons. People just don’t play them.

Aetherpath, Arah P4, FotM, and that place called Eternal Battlegrounds. They’re all challenging dungeons!

Here is what TA:A is right now – unskipable sinematics,bad puzzle.Also the dungeon is not very rewarding.So why a hard core player will go do it?Only for the challenge?Yea right….MMOs are not for that.

Not very rewarding? It has the potential to give some expensive items in the endchest.

It’s also pretty easy for “hardcore” PvE veterans.

Yea everyone knows how ’’good’’ and ’’awesome’’ is the RNG in GW2.
Having the ’’potential’’ to give some expensive items?This really made me laugh.
Also every hard core player goes for 2 things in MMOs:

  1. Challenging content
  2. Rewarding content

If one of those two things is missing in the formula then it’s not worth the time.Why do i like raids in other games?Not that they are gated behind gear but because they bring me challenge with approtiate reward.

After reading through the thread again, I’ve compiled a list of common things players want raids to be:

  • 10-25 player instanced content (possibly multiple raids each with different party sizes).
  • Less “do this at this time” mechanics.
  • Clear objectives and mechanics that don’t require vocal communication or precise coordination.
  • More importance given to defense, CC, and support mechanics and less about sheer damage.
  • Multiple objectives and roles for players in the group.
  • Condition stacking needs to be fixed.
  • Appropriate monetary and exclusive rewards for the difficulty and scale.
  • No vertical stat progression.

Can we all agree on this or is there something that should be added to or removed from this list?

Which is an outdated way to do things. Some people don’t have the time to do raids, should they not be allowed to work towards the best gear in some other manner, or we just resign to the fact that those that have larger chunks of time to play will be the only ones who can get the best gear? This isn’t even a skill issue, it’s a time issue. Raids discriminate people on a time-basis, rarely on a skill basis, as raids aren’t difficult content, they are just really long dungeons.

Sorry but i disagree with you.When someone doesn’t have time to do something then he doesn’t deserve to be rewarded.It doesn’t matter is it only a cosmetic item like pet,mount,toy,tittle,skin(weapon,gear) or is it an item level upgread to your gear.The effort and time that i putted in doing something hard has to be taken in account.

When i spent my time in doing difficult and chalenging content i expect to be rewarded appropriatelly.In GW2 this means i must receive some cosmetic item that only a few people will have.If casuals don’t have the time to spare to do it.Then they don’t deserve the reward.It’s that simple.Not everyone must have everything.

Yes but time requirement =/= skill. There can be shorter, high difficulty alternatives that yield the same result. Or better yet have rewards be token based like dungeons. If you do a 25-man raid you get significantly more tokens than a shorter/5man dungeon, but both are challenging. That way, people with high skill levels but little time (because you know, real life) are still able to work towards rewards geared towards challenge.

From my perspective I see no reason to differentiate a good player with a 3hr chunk of time to play from a good player with 3 1hr chunks of time to play. Because think of it this way: you could have someone who plays 10hr/week (~1.5hr/day for 7 days) who is a great player unable to complete raids because of time commitments, and thus will not be able to get highest level rewards; while conversely you can have someone who plays 6hr/week (3hrs on two different days) able to get the highest level gear.

How is that fair to the person who plays more, they just can’t dedicate the same time chunks. And for the sake of this example let’s say the first guy is twice as good a player as the second guy. The second guy only logs on to run the raid, mostly carried by his guild, and then logs out. That guy doesn’t deserve better gear than the first guy. Not in my opinion.

When someone plays only 3hours per whole week that is a casual player in it’s finest.When i play dota 2 i know that only 1 my game will be atleast 40 minutes.in 3 hours i barelly will have played 5 games.If i spread those games between 7 days that will be nothing.Really nothing.It’s 1 game per day.Come on that is what a casual would do.

If the good player wants to be great he has to put time and dedication in what he is doing.Pure skill and tallent won’t bring him anywhere if he doesn’t put some effort and more than 3 hours per week of play time.The raiders in other MMOs and most competitve PvP players put more than 3 hours per day to become good and stay that way.

Raid in itself however isnt the issue but the fact some people like it easy and want to pick up only the best to run them. Results? Well all the baddies get grouped togueter because no decent player left and or you get grouped up with baddies because you have no connection to an elitism guild and no one get things done save for a select few lucky shot who had friends in high place.

A good 3/4 of the so called good raiders in world of warcraft only happened to have friend in high place who carried them in the raids regardless of subpar skill level. Skills in raid? That doesnt exist its all about behing at the right place at the right time with the right people and is prety much dumbed down to pure luck.

Then people start asking to show achievement for stuff you could have never done anyway in a pug team and you end up behing refused everywhere with door locked because you just werent the lucky one to find a team that can actualy run the place.
How can you actualy have the achievement for a place you actualy trying to run for the first time to begin with, if your in there its because you want to gear up not so to do a walk in the park.

Elitists are already existing even without raids.That won’t be anything new even if raids are added.People can avoid such groups the same way they currently do.Also you can’t link achievement.Also if you want to do something make your own group,become the RL and make your own rules.

With the end of dungeon owner ill just remind you that in theory your own group can kick you witheout any consequence all it require is two guy in zerk who don’t want to do it your way and that’s it they likely got you out of your own party. Stuff such as ‘’making your own rules’’ no longuer exist in dungeon runs save when your teamed up with reasonable people. If we consider them adding raids we likely will see a lot of that.

1st dungeon owner was a bad thing that had to go
2nd other MMOs doesn’t have a problem with their Rraid leaders.No one is kicking them.Anet just have to make a system for Party leader that is not a crappy one.They don’t have to reinvent the wheel.Why not use something that is already working in other MMOs?
