Skipping ... everything ?

I will admit what Robert said about gamers finding the path of least resistance is quite true. But however I believe the motivations behind why ppl skip is not just attributed to mere human nature.

I speak for myself but I believe there are some in the same situation as me. I use dungeons as main method of gaining gold and chest loot, and is aiming to get a legendary. However, a trip down to the TP and you can see the pricing of some of well-sought after mats (Precursors, Lodes etc). And those prices are not static. They are increasing as time goes on.

As a result, I have to run dungeons in a way to get the gold needed for items I want. And the rate of earning gold HAVE to be higher than the rate of price increase of the items I want. Skipping is a makes dungeoning more time-efficient, to squeeze more runs into whatever playtime I have.

I understand that some of items are purely cosmetics and that they are not required to play the game. However, it is still something I desire and want to progress towards. And dungeons are still enjoyable to me despite running them countless times. I just purchased Dusk off the TP very recently and skipping takes no small part in my ability to do so.

@Blackwolf: Firstly, I am aware of farming Charged Lodestones from sparks. However, this guide is meant to use Dungeons as the main means of getting components of Legendaries (which is why I am posting it in the Dungeon section). Secondly, with CoE you can farm Charged Cores/Lodestones concurrently with getting CoE tokens, and there are a few ways of utilizing those tokens as mentioned.

At what time do the dungeon tokens reset?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The daily resets at midnight UTC.

If you complete a dungeon path at 23.50 UTC and then complete it again at 00.20 UTC, you’ll get 60 tokens both times.

For the example you raised, you will hit DR for running the same path too close to each other.

If you are going for a full set of dungeon armor AC has the cheapest exotics for the token price, making it a good place to start. Good luck finding PuGs that won’t skip everything and speed run.

Isn’t the token pricing for dungeon armor the same for every dungeon? Different parts like mantle and coat are different ofc.

5th time getting griefed in fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: mosspit.8936

mosspit.8936

The ideal solution that would be Anti-Greifing would be to have the ENTIRE party be kicked out of FOTM if any player is being kicked from the party.. This would also make the griefers think twice before kicking anyone as they themselves would also be transported out of the FOTM together with the player they just kicked and be unable to enjoy the rewards.

Another form of griefing can occur in this case. Once the opportunity costs of kicking because too great (eg. 3rd Fract or Jade Maw), griefers can behave in a negative manner without the fear of being booted.

I support increasing the number of kick votes to 3. It is not completely grief-proof but it does make it significantly harder to grief in this way.

Is it just me or are dungeon bosses too OP?

CC-ing most bosses actually makes the fight harder. If you blow through the defiant and actually interrupt a skill, it tends to reset the bosses’ AI. Making them use attacks outside their usual predictable order (at least once).

For example, knocking down Rumblus in AC 3 during his summon, has cause him to immediately stand up and scream on multiple occasions with guild tests. Far more dangerous than just letting him summon adds.

Lol yup. If you CC Kholer during his grapple hook charging animation, he will go straight into the sword whirl. Your melee team mates will be…. grateful of that. I will generally keep an eye out for the defiant stacks of bosses and be weary when they are susceptible to CC, especially when bosses are about ready to deliver their signature attacks.

This is like a mini guide of sorts for those who like to dungeon within GW2 and are looking to obtain a Legendary. Let me start by saying this: This is NOT the most efficient way of progressing towards a Legendary. There other more efficient ways of doing that. This is basically a consolidation of tips that can be found around here for those who are interested to use dungeoning as one of the main means of getting a Legendary.

Glob of Ectoplasm: For the dungeons that have an equivalent or higher level cap than CoF (namely CoF, Hotw, CoE, Arah). You can find rare lvl70+ armors from the vendors in LA. The cheapest ones sell for 30 tokens and you can salvage them for ectos. For a fresh daily run for any of these dungeons, you are guaranteed to get 2 rares.

Precursors: For lower level cap dungeons like AC, you can save up tokens from these to buy weapons and drop them into the MF. Even if you don’t get a precursor, you can still get an exotic which can be sold on the TP. As such, it is advisable to try for the weapon class that can fetch the highest price on the TP. This creates different uses for high and low level cap dungeons.

Lodestones: For Legendaries that require Lodestones, look for the appropriate dungeons that drop them.

  • TA : Onyx
  • SE : Destroyer
  • Hotw : Glacial / Corrupted
  • CoF : Molten
  • CoE: Charged
  • Arah : Putrid Essences

In my experience, you can get an average ~1.5 core from a all paths clear of the respective dungeon and I estimate that I have gotten about 1 lodestone for every 10 cores.

Gold: Get to know which are the mini bosses/champs that drop guaranteed silvers and boost the silvers drop using gold find food like Omnom bars. Consume the food items just before the first boss dies to maxmize the duration.

Karma: You gain a set amount karma (assuming no DR effects) when you clear a path and you get about 3 drops of karma. If you have excess Karma Boosters and Guild Karma Buffs, consolidate your drops and apply the buffs before consumption.

Mystic Coins: Just want to bring to attention Fotm here. Fotm sends you to 3 or 4 different Fractuals with different enemy classes. Generally you can fulfill 8-10 different enemy classes and progress towards completing the Daily Achievement Requirement for Mystic Coins. For the normal dungeons, they have events within and you can fulfill the 5 events requirement just by running dungeons.

Moreover, Fotm can also be another source for lodestones/cores, eg Swamp gives Oynx etc. Jade Maw is another great level for lodestones/cores. The chest at the end can give different varieties of lodestones/cores. The Jade Colossi at the boss can drop Oynx Lodestones. I have gotten 2 from them with no magic find.

Thanks.

No I don’t think greatswords have better chance of popping precursors due the fact that weapon class have 2 different precurors (while the other weapon class generally have only 1). For now the exo greatsword pool is about 30-ish. It does not mean that a precursor has a 2 in 30-ish chance of popping from the MF while using exotics.

From this update https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-November-15-2012, it is mentioned that the chance of creating precursors was slightly increased. From that I am guessing whenever an exotic gs is created MF, a roll is first done to determine if a precursor can be obtained. If the roll fails, the exotic gs will fall under the normal category (generic and named exotics) and another roll will be done to determine the exact gs obtained. In the case of gs, if the precursor roll succeeds, another roll will be done to determine whether Dusk or Dawn is to be obtained.

This is what I think anyways.

I guess it’s because lots of people got tired of explaining everything every run. It’s not so bad when newbs listen to what experienced party member says. But there are really crowds of people who have no idea about the dungeon but don’t listen to what the party has to say. This can really ruin the run.

This is mostly the reason for me. And when I’m giving tips, I will also try to word the tips or “instructions” in a suitable way. A few times, my clarity is mistaken for treating a newcomer “like a kid”. I will back down and the runs don’t run well. Sometimes when I am giving tips to newcomers, some experienced team mates get offended thinking I am giving tips to them and they lash out.

Hey I was a newcomer a while back and I also would like to pay it forward. But some newcomers really isn’t making it easy.

That is annoying….

Writing skip in chat doesn t require nor skill nor that much time.
Expecially since for glasscannons skipping is not as easy as for a tank. (i have a tank too)

Thats a problem. And some PuGs don’t like to chat. What I do is. When I’m joining someone’s game, I will type “skip or fight”… sometimes with the mob’s name. If I’m leading, I will type “skip”. Most of the time someone will respond. But in case it is one of those silent groups, I will always assume we are skipping (since i join games that specified skipping trash) and adjust my skillsets as such.

As a mesmer, I feel your pain, literally.

Guess I will chip in. As a mesmer when skipping, my advice is to set the following skills.
Decoy (stunbreaker + invisibility), Blink (stunbreaker + teleport). If you really need it, Veil (invisibility). And if you really really need it, Mass Invisibility.

Focus 4 – Temporal Curtain -> Into the Void is great. Place it just in front of the mob. Once you gain the swiftness buff, Into the Void to pull the mob behind you.

Staff 5 – Chaos Storm. I don’t use this often but you can coat yourself with swiftness and aegis before skipping.

mosspit.8936

The safespot for ranging the wurms still exists, it’s slightly smaller and Anet parked a flower right on top of it so you can’t literally afk. Whoever the wurm AI is targeting (aka, whoever they’re spitting on) should go behind the ridge. This causes the wurms to keep trying to spit at that person but they can’t. Rest of party can melee Greater to their heart’s content or range them.

Condensed: Wurm aggro bearer LoS’s them on ridge, rest of party kills Greater. You don’t even need to range safespot if you don’t have the aggro and the wurms are LoS’d.

Pretty much this. In my experience, it is easier for ranged to grab aggro of the vines. When ranging the boss at the spot, be careful of fellow teammates who go on the ledge to deal dmg. Chances are they will get some aggro and invite a pepper of spits that will probably hit you. When melee’ing, be careful of teammates, who were originally ranging vines, that come to join in melee.

You guys might want to read.

1. I am not stuck dying continuously. This is a rare occasion. I run through/skip parts fine in every dungeon I have done, which is all of them minus Arah. This isn’t a stop skipping cause I die! plea. This is a please play the dungeon like it was made for.
2. I don’t force/tell/beg anyone to not skip content in game. I stay with the group. In the time it would take me to complain we’d all die.

3. Im not talking about trash mobs, not endless spawns, not guys on the otherside of the map you’d never even aggro unless intentionally, not a patrol that is patrolling specifically so you have the opportunity to avoid etc. The goal isn’t to kill every single target-able thing possible but atleast have time to enjoy the dungeon. In the beginning people would skip one room or so that was annoying. Now people skip every single part possible. So the taking it to extremes with insane examples is pointless.

Remember I said for example, running through a room designed for you to have to fight them, there is no way around, they are all agrooed as you proceed through. That is what I mean.

Example again TA, those first few tree creatures right before the vine boss room. Yea we can all swift past them, but why not just kill them? It would take all of 2 minutes or less.

Yes finding non-skippers is a possibility but can be much of a hassle. On the times I do do that, new exploits come. Everything from people screaming “Nuuuh don’t kill the last boss so I can logout and bring our super low chars in and ninja the xp, or not suffer from DR” to just outright cheating in areas they cannot be hit. That is why I wish it’d just be fixed.

In that case, is it intended that those mobs that you referring that take that 2 mins or so to kill have the just about the same loot as those that are found on the overworld but have much more hp than them?

The husks I will skip them everytime because they drop crap even if they are easy to fight with stability or otherwise. Okay okay you are NOT dying continuously. Only occasionally. But what is your trigger point for all of these? A bad experience due to selfish and uncooperative gamers. Those are the problem not game mechanics and no amount of game mechanics can stop this group of gamers from being being selfish and uncooperative.

mosspit.8936

You kidding? When my entire group skips it I have no choice but to skip. There is no always dying. I die on occasion, and those are the times when the entire party is dying except the guardian or the thief who conviently self stealths. I can skip and do skip like everyone else absolutely fine, because there is no option with a room full of silvers that the party has just blazed right past. I never stand there and complain and demand everyone come back and do the mobs, I follow the group. Dying comes from trying to do the dungeon as intended only to find out the entire party or half of it has left. So just me and another person are there. Now I just do what the group does, that is the only way.

I am curious as to everyone’s definition of trash mobs. Trash mobs to me means lower than silver, and/or out of the way. SE for instance, those groups of dredge guarding the mortars cannons, we/I can shoot the cannons without agroeing no need to fight every single batch of them and that makes sense. I consider that a trash mob. But a group of silvers on a one way path to the next room, that are auto agrooed when you enter, I just don’t see the point.

This isn’t about making people play the way I want. This isn’t about me saying everyone should walk instead of using fast travel or something similar. Did the devs design dungeons for everyone to breeze past the large majority of it? No. What a waste of time and effort that would have been. And this is not an issue about the mobs being hard, they typically aren’t.

Even asking beforehand isn’t always reliable, there will always be some manner of skipper.

I’ve collected hundreds and hundreds of tokens, I am not new to dungeons, or anything or the sort, just something I’d like to see.

No I am not kidding. Just find like-minded ppl on chat or gw2lfg to run with. Be really strong in your wording to represent the frustration you are feeling now so ppl will know what to expect.

I am not questioning your competency to dungeon. But you are frustrated dying and being left behind when skipping. Sometimes the one heads the charge will be in a safer situation just so you know.

I’d really like to know and I really hope so. I am so, so so tired of everyone skipping every single part of the dungeon except the absolutely necessary bosses. What is the purpose? or me and 3 other players being stuck in a group with an “Lol guardian i can tank all” guy who runs past everything enduring and leaves us all slaughtered. No one is skipping because it is too hard, its just constant skipping because they can. I find it highly annoying.

You play it your own way killing everything and let others play their way of skipping trash. When joining groups, ask beforehand the nature of the playstyle. If it bothers you so much, you should only join games that specifies no skipping.

Your frustration comes from the fact you can’t handle skipping mobs without dying. Playing with likeminded people makes a lot of difference.

Note on Old Tom: Actually biggest threat is the darts he fans around. They do most of the damage. Poison just makes it harder to tank them.
This a really trivial fight if you have 2 guardians with Shield of Avenger (I think mesmer bubble will work too) to completely shut down darts. Don’t even need to bother with the crystals/fan.

Minor clarification. Feedback does not work on the darts. Wall of Reflection doesn’t work. Sanctuary does work. However, he has another projectile atk (an electric ball projectile of sorts) which can be dealt with feedback.

CoF Path 2 "kiting event" strategy request

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

mosspit.8936

Yes. Killing all the mob is possible.

I mainly do PUG and I have done the dps method even then. However, you do need good group dps to pull it off “effectively”, no matter how good an individual member in a pug is. By “effectively”, I mean able to clear off each wave of mobs completely before the next wave spawns.

I have been in groups where we killed everything before meter hits 100%. I have been in groups that have a couple adds remaining when its 100% but without dying or downing once. I have been in groups where the dps method failed at the midway point and transited into the kiting method. I also have been in groups that just did the kiting method in a few different rotation orders.

Just be flexible especially in pugs as you can’t really control what others in your team do. To add, while im not a particularly good kiter, I have seen really good kiters solo that event for high percentages. Even heard of those who solo’ed it from 0 to 100% without dying (though I have yet to see it for myself).

Afaik it can be done and I personally have been doing for a while. While haven’t been successful in getting a precursor, it is one of the ways you can get rid of excess tokens. The exotics you get out of the MF can be sold on the TP.

It is not the most efficient way to get a precursor but in a way it doesn’t really eat into your current gold pool.

Works with excess karma too.
Same goes for karma vendor greatswords, the rare ones from the wvw vendor for 36000 for example, or if you want to buy greens in mass theres a orr karma vendor that sells them for 1300 each.

Never had any luck though. Might be worth waiting until the new update comes out this month tbh.

It is rhetorical because I know how it can be done. Considering that dungeons can be solo’ed (and I have done so to certain extents just for the fun of it), what I concieve as possible is not really the issue here.

The people providing the said service might be doing it the proper way. And there might be others that purchase these kind of services. Court Knights’ “signature move” is the leap knockdown + ground stomp combo. The former has a small aoe which does hard knockdown + dmg when it connects. The latter is a medium aoe atk with good dmg and cripples.

I find stunbreakers useful. If you happen to get knockdowned, pop your stunbreaker and dodge immediately after to evade the ground stomp. Just be prepared, the leap attack has a 8-10secs cd from my experience.

I prefer to skip trash mob when possible myself. However for me, giving more incentives for “more complete”clears is acceptable I guess. For example Kholer, with the loot buff I find more people, including myself, more willing to kill him. Even though I stay away from lfg that specially states skipping him, I find that it is good to give ppl the choice to skip him or otherwise.

Trash mobs with the current system? Skip as much as possible. It is a matter of efficiency. There is no reason to kill them when they are the HP sponges as they are while offering rewards that are no better than the fodder mobs in the overworld, and are equally boring to fight. And I hope all of these will stay as far away from magic find as possible. This will create or rather worsen another set of conflicts imo.

And if whoever can’t handle the skipping of mobs, pls give a heads up to the rest that you aren’t confident before the mob. Waiting till you are lying dead at the feet of a court knight is probably too late.

Having said that, TA Exp is fine. I pug alot and this is one of the dungeons I can say that all three paths are pretty balanced. To each his/her own, but I do a full clear TA almost everyday and it rarely takes more than 2 hrs.

When playing with pugs, I adapt to whatever play style they choose. Generally, attempting to coordinate a group of utter strangers for skipping leads to frustrating situations.

I agree. Especially with the skill change for skipping. Trash mobs are skipped usually because the efforts do not match rewards, but it doesn’t mean skipping is something done without any thinking at all. Part of skipping is knowing what kinda of attacks the enemies you are skipping have and their aggro range etc. Your skills should, but not 100% necessarily, include either stunbreakers/stability, swiftness, stealth and/or cond removal.

But to skip or kill is a party decision and communicating intentions to do either will be very helpful in reducing the negative sentiments. If you are pug’ing a dungeon, have realistic expectations of what group mates you will get.

I just started using my guardian on Fotm and got to lvl 7 in a 3 days. Granted it is harder than before but it is still doable. As for gw2lfg, if you are really concerned bout the security aspect, you can just view the listings without posting for one. It does track IP addresses but it needs that to enable ppl to delete fulfilled lfg requests.

The problem isn’t that its not doable. The problem is that its the same “game” all other “normal” MMOs are: keep up or climb up. This wasn’t what GW2 was supposed to be. Aside for the (very short) climb to 80, you were supposed to get up to par very easily, and then just be able to do whatever and play with anyone.

I’ve done the whole “hardcore progression guild” thing, with great success in other games. Still hate it. Its not that people aren’t willing to go back down. Its that if you help everyone, you’ll spend hundred of hours going back down and never go up (unless the guild is totally static), especially as new players come in and old players leave. In the short term its fine, in a few months it gets old fast and forces you to play 10x more than you normally would. The game worked so well (to its original target audience) until this stuff came up…

No. The issue that I addressed was about the difficulty about finding the appropriate group for fotm, and not discussing about the mechanisms of the matchmaking. The matchmaking mechanism is flawed I agree but it isn’t what I was discussing about.

Leveling from lvl1 to 7 in 3 days is my personal anecdote and I also mentioned that it is harder (I have another character at lvl 26). I split it in 3 days to get more tokens from the dailies. I just saying at this point time, it is still doable. That’s all.

Yup… I just got a non-infused ring on 24.

Hmmm, i tried to put my ascended ring into the MF. It did not accept my ectos. But it did allow me to put in the vials and globs of mist together. Haven’t actually executed the recipe but I don’t think ectos are need this time =)

Old Tom in uncharacterized

For Guardian, you can use Shield of the Avenger and Sanctuary. Both of these absorb the bolts and if you managed to get the bubble to overlap Old Tom, most of the bolts can be nullified. I believe Feedback and Wall of Reflection do not work as they reflect projectiles. You need to find skills that absorb them.

@FluffyDoe: The way I see it is you are being affected by that bad PUG experience due to the party having bad mannerisms, playing the blame game and what not. The premise just happens to relate to skipping dungeon parts. If something else went wrong in that same dungeon that isn’t triggered by skipping, chances are you will still have a bad experience.

I pretty much agree with Kumakichi’s advice with regards to PUG dungeoning.

@ArcTheFallen: I agree most parts. Ppl should have a choice of doing dungeons they wish. It just takes a bit of effort notifying ppl during group forming of whether the leader wants to skip or not.

For the reason of ppl who do not want to skip, I can think of 1 more reason which they had a bad experience of skipping in dungeons that make them avoid doing the same thing.

There is a difference between skipping bosses and skipping trash mob. Silver dropping champs aside, trash mobs give really poor returns.

For me personally, I generally know which are the parts that can be skipped or fought so I will ask for a party decision. But if the group is not that good, I will always opt to fight to facilitate running back. Having for 1 member to run back from the wp as he/she got killed in mid journey is a waste of time.

As for newcomers, I would prefer them to voice out the fact that they are new. Personally, there are some tell-tale signs if a person is new and I will ask. And if I am leading the dungeon, so far I have given the necessary tips along the way to help them. But the signs are not 100% accurate and its when they are confused during the puzzle segments that I know they are new. They are even some newcomers that blatantly refused to acknowledge being new despite being asked. And when they do not know what to do when the time comes, ppl tend to get negative. Newcomers only have to be new 1 time and frankly speaking, it takes more effort for someone to explain the necessary parts than a newcomer to state that they are new.

For the white flash, keep an eye out for the buff on the boss that looks like protection (can’t remember the name, i think its cultist something). Once you see it, dodge immediately as it is tell for the white flash. Timing is tight but its doable.

First and foremost, I appreciate most of the recent changes to dungeons. Personally, I started doing dungeons actively a while back (when completion rewards was like what? 5 silvers? With no Karma at all). I was doing dungeons as it was more engaging than overworld pve environment and there was a good variety of dungeons to choose from.

With regards to reward system, I think there are 2 main progression paths (tokens) or RNG (loot). I personally would prefer if it steers away from RNG. More so if it involves Magic Find. And as previous poster(s) have mentioned, there is a difference between RNG and bad RNG. However, I think it is kinda difficult not to associate grind with these 2 methods – RNG with its law of average and Progression with farming tokens. I suppose its a matter of setting a reasonable benchmark… you can’t make everyone happy.

With trash mobs, simply put the effort spent in killing them vs killing a mob in an lvl80 area in the overworld have some discrepancies. Trash mobs generally have higher HP, higher damage, more dangerous skill combos but have comparable rewards to your good ol’ generic mob. There can possibly be adjustments to rewarding players for killing trash mob and again, I prefer to leave MF out of the picture.

Why does agony punish vitality builds?

Random question here, I noticed that one agony inflicting attack is a projectile, can these be reflected to inflict agony on the boss? Or are they immune to this?

Can be reflect and they are not immune to it. However I have no idew how many dmg they’ll suffer from it.

Well certainly not what the agony dmg is supposed to do… otherwise you’d cleave almost all the health off a boss.

The most obvious experience I can think of is the Legendary Shaman. His fire bolts can be easily reflected and I am pretty sure I remembered seeing the agony debuff on the boss. As for agony actually working on the boss, no I don’t think so. I would definitely notice if his HP was going down in percentages per tick lol.
