Are they Set 1 or 2?
Why was there no chance to thwart the attack?

Had you been there, you’d be dead. You can’t hope to defend a city against an aerial attack if you have no anti-aircraft weapons. All you can do is run or die.
I converted my entire iron ore supply into Steel Ingots and made a killing.
I’m pretty sure that Set II can be MFed and throw out Set I? At least I think that’s the case – a discontinued item would be more than these minis cost.
Yes, that’s why I said “nearly” since you have to buy 4 Set II minis in order to throw the dice on a chance for 1 Set I mini.
I tried to get all of Set 1 just so I could have the achievement points and title and then sell them. I’m stuck now with a few left to go since I set my high bid at 7g (some of the remaining ones are now well over 100g each).
The nice thing is that if I decide to give up on my goal and divest my collection, it will be worth a decent chunk of gold since it is nearly impossible to get these minis now.

They never said Vigil Keep was going to be the new central hub. Stop making stuff up to justify your irrational anger.
It is the central hub right now…
That may not be permanent, but the fact remains that is currently the central hub.
Rata Sum is a much better central hub. Always has been.
Only bads hung out in LA anyway.
Yes. It works pretty well, actually.
So it’s a 90 minute Oil Buff that anyone can use once placed?

It never ceases to amaze me how incredibly irrational people can be when you change things.
Yes, it’s extremely surprising that people protest, when you change things for the worse.
serious question. what existing convenience did they remove that wasn’t already more convenient in other locations.
The convenience of having all services in the same zone.
I suppose if you were of the persuasion that the Mystic Forge is a wonderful thing that all smart people like yourself should use on a very regular basis then you would find the change to be for the worse.
Of course, if you were of the persuasion that gambling is a giant waste of time and money because the house always wins and people who use the Mystic Forge on a very regular basis have an incredible lack of knowledge about basic math then you would find the change has no impact on you at all, since Rata Sum is a vastly superior place to park all but one alt (that one alt being your MF guy, who you use to do your very rare MF recipes, not any kind of pointless daily lottery).
I wish I had the patience to really pay attention to patch notes and get started on trading. I was too hyped up on the LA invasion that I ignored it.
At least I have a shiny backpiece now ;S
Same here. I was searching through the rubble trying to ensure that Evon made it out alive. I finally found him at the Vigil HQ!

All content other than high level fractals is available for relatively easy completion without ascended gear, thus ascended gear is optional gear that simply makes things slightly easier.
This is not WoW, where the next tier is effectively mandatory because without it you fail the DPS or AR check.
I actually took a screenshot of Lion’s Arch last night… mostly because I was so very disappointed with how few people were there during peak hours.
Devona’s Rest has a hard time mustering 20 people to run the Queensdale champ train. You won’t get an overflow unless you have a LOT of people guesting.
Stock up now…
Rata Sum for the Win.
Crafting, Bank, Black Lion, and Home Instance all in one place.
While I was doing my Ascended crafting, I parked my alts at JP chests to farm the Empyreal Fragments.
I picked Morgan’s Spiral because it was easy to get to, easy to do, and pays out 6-9 Empyreal Fragments per character per day.
I don’t recall the number of fragments from the pirate JP in LA, is it comparable?
It’s even better to park them at the LA pirates puzzle. That puzzle has the best chest in the game and the largest loot table.
All you need is a mesmer to port all your characters up.
Hmmm… I wonder who that Mesmer might be?
lol
I have one of each class (Engineer is the only I haven’t gotten to 80 yet) and an extra Warrior and an extra Guardian.
My first Warrior was a Charr and my first Guardian was a Norn. I dislike their large body styles, so I decided to keep them around and level some new ones (human and sylvari, respectively).
I intend to make my new Warrior a Condition focus for playing around and my new Guardian a damage sponge for dungeons.
Ascended materials conversion has been suggested many-many times because different people prefer doing different content and would be happy to convert them even at a discriminating exchange rate. I for one am drowning in dragonite but have very little empyreal.
Trick for Empyreal:
Take your alts and park them at the Morgan’s Spiral Jumping Puzzle chest. Every day, log into each alt and open the chest.
You’ll be rolling in fragments with no effort.
Admission: I did not read the entire thread so this suggestion may already be present.
Suggestion: Roll a Ranger.
It is fine. Different materials drop from different kinds of content.
If you need Dragonite Ore, you will have to do the things that drop Dragonite Ore.
I do wish that dungeon bosses were designed to require tactics to beat them, and while stacking is a tactic, it shouldn’t be the one that always works no matter what.
There should be a time and a place for stacking, and a time and a place for something else. The more recent world boss encounters suggest that ArenaNet is working on improving their boss fight designs, which is encouraging.
It’s not an issue about ease of coding, but rather a service that a seller uses. The Buyer posts a “wanted” listing, sure. But in order for a Seller to sell his goods to that person, he must LIST the item on the Trading Post. There’s a fee to use this service.
Think of it this way, the item you’re selling, whether it be a Sell listing or filling a Buy Order, is delivered though the Trading Post itself. You can’t pick up your items or money without visiting a BLTC representative. Because you’re using the service, you pay the fees. Sellers pay a non-refundable small percentage of the value up front, and a larger percentage of the value of the sale on the back end.
On a side note, this is one of the reasons why Buyer and Seller names are hidden. If the TP acted like a bulletin board system, or forum, I could easily bypass the TP all together, and message directly to the person posting the Buy Order to make a trade free of fees. That leads to scams, because there’s no secure method of guaranteed sell or delivery.
tl;dr – You pay a fee to use the service.
You’d still pay the fee, it would just come out of the profits if you filled an existing order rather than out of your pocket if you chose to post your item.
You’re thinking about it from the perspective of what is. I’m talking about what it could be. It could be a system that promotes more transactions (and thus works to combat inflation better) by allowing new or poor players to immediately fill buy orders. Instead of having 5% taken up front and 10% taken at the end, filling a buy order would take 0% up front and 15% taken at the end. TP tax remains in full force, and more players are able to participate in the economy which makes everyone more money.
The problem here is that filling Buy Orders still require you to list the item. Why should we treat people filling Buy Orders any different than people listing items for sale? The seller of the item is still listing them, so no matter how much you dislike it, you must pay the up front fees to access the Trading Post’s functions.
In the event you have a player without enough money to post a high end item for sale, then that player can buy some Gems, convert to Gold, and then sell his item. OR… wait until he has farmed enough Gold to cover the listing fees.
Functionally, the buyer creates a listing and when you fill it, a sell listing is created, and then instantly deleted because it is paired with the buy listing, and the transaction completes.
That system is kind of a garbled mess, but it takes significantly less time to code which is why we have it.
This suggestion would require the code to be improved to be more efficient, which isn’t going to happen.
In an efficient TP design, there would only be one listing for each transaction (either a buy or a sell) followed by a completion when it is filled.
Bows are cheap, thanks to the fact they use wood and leather which are both SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than Orichalcum. Obviously the insignia will still be expensive to make, but both bows should be your go to items for discovery if you want to save money.
If you didn’t pay the listing fee until the item was sold then the TP would just be a gloried infinite bank completely bloated with peoples crap.
The listing fee must be paid up front or the TP would no longer be a place of trade but instead a place of bank storage.
The idea is that when filling BUY ORDERS only the listing fee would be paid from the sale profit. Making a Sell Listing will still require the fee to be paid in advance, so no banking of items is possible.
This would keep the taxes in place but would also allow new players who get a lucky drop to fill a buy order without needing to spend time farming gold just to be able to afford to sell the item they got.
Putting the listing fee at the end of the transaction for filling buy orders is a good idea, but one that would require a lot of coding and thus won’t happen.
I’ve acquired a grand total of 15 dyes, all from random Unidentified Dyes. Once I realized that each character had separate dyes, I lost all interest in the dye system and now just sell any that drop.
Collecting things for your account (mini pets, achievement points, home instance upgrades, etc.) is VASTLY superior to collecting things for your character because it allows you to play the way you want to, with whatever character you want to play on. Character bound stuff is a relic of the subscription age and has no place in a modern MMO.
I like the OP’s idea, but I wouldn’t put it as a very high priority item since I’m sure it would require a LOT of coding to make happen since that is not the way the TP currently works.
It makes sense that you would not need to have cash on hand to list an item if you are filling an already listed buy order.
There are optimum builds for each class for each type of content. The ability to do everything OK comes at a loss of potential that you would have had, had you specialized into the optimum build for the specific type of content you are attempting.
If the convenience of not needing to respec and regear because you went with the Celestial build outweighs the lost potential TO YOU, then by all means, use Celestial. This is a game and is supposed to be fun for the players, after all.
Personally, I have different characters for different content, that way I don’t have to respec or lose potential at a cost of increased time to gear.
Metric system is all based in units on 10 (1 meter = 10 decimeter = 10 centimeter = 10 millimeter…), both for measurement and temperature.
Imperial is really random (1 yard = 3 feet = 12 inches …), and Fahrenheit is also apparently very arbitrary, but if you think that use H2O as reference imagine use a mix of water and salt to create a new unit.@OP: Well, this game is created and based in the USA, so yeah … we need to deal with it.
All measurement systems are arbitrary. We, as people, decided that X should be 1 on the scale and that X+Y=2 on the scale.
Metric uses a base 10 system for Y, but X is still completely arbitrary, and Y was arbitrarily set to use base 10.
Someone, somewhere, arbitrarily chose to define the length of a millimeter to be 1 millimeter. Everything else is just adding more arbitrary millimeters onto it.
Point is, scientists use the system that everyone around them uses (which is kind of the entire point of having a system of measurements).
Any system is easy to use, if it is the system you are familiar with.
Couldn’t agree more. In fact, I think that all of the speed boosts should be standardized so that they all require either a signet or a trait, as opposed to how currently some are traited and others are signets.
Alternately, remove all the speed boosts and put the speed as a food buff.
Dependable and obedient soldiers do not make good leaders. They make dependable and obedient soldiers. This is primarily because making a soldier dependable and obedient requires them to be trained not to make decisions or question authority.
Ruthless businesscats who have a financial empire to protect? They make great leaders though, since their intense desire to protect themselves will also mean they are protecting those around them and they have a long history of making very good decisions (which is how they built their financial empire). Sure, they may be corrupt and greedy, but who in government isn’t?
Long story short: Don’t send a white knight into government and expect anything to change, other than that white knight becoming either a pawn or a stained knight.
Because scientists used the imperial system for centuries before they invented the metric system?
Here is actual math.
Currently, it costs 9g for 100 gems on my server. The pick costs 1000 gems. Therefore, the pick costs 90g to purchase. Definitely not cheap.
How much money do you make from using it? Well, so far I’ve probably made a solid 10 silver off selling the sprockets over a few days.
So, how long will it take to make it worth it? A LONG TIME. In short, I didn’t get it because I thought it would give me some crazy in-game advantage. I got it because I wanted an infinite pick with cool animations.
BOTTOM LINE: Anyone who bought the pick to make money will be disappointed. Players who want to make gold through the gem store should simply turn their gems into gold instead. So, if you want to complain about “Pay to Win,” please complain about that.
You better hurry though, I predict that the sprockets will decline to vendor value in the future since the acquisition rate is so high, and the current demand is sure to fall once people acquire the very limited number of items that utilize the sprockets.
I have a great Celestial Build for my Warrior in wvw, when roaming. Just with the common Ele and Guardian Celestial Builds, i can do a bit of everything and make use of every stat in some way. But as my build is not very common, many people struggle to find a weakness in it, while i can pressure them with decent direct dps, condi damage and CC.
Sounds like your strength comes from being unusual. It’s a sound strategy until someone learns to recognize you!
I prefer to set my buy order at a point where I know I can make a profit and where I know it will (eventually) be sold to me.
Then, I don’t worry about them. If I wanted to baby sit my buy orders, I’d stand around Lion’s Arch shouting “WTB”.
Yeah, that is a good point actually. Maybe I would be better off to set a bunch of buy orders and just forget about them instead of babysitting. Does it work out well for you?
It works very well for cyclical items that tend to go up and down within the same margins. Once you get familiar with your market, you’ll know where you can list. I am a bit more hands on with markets I’m not familiar with, but my rule is that I never change a buy order unless at least 3 days have passed.
I am not opposed to “mounts” in the sense of a out of combat transformation (like the broom).
The only buff that would not be OP is a 25% increase in speed (i.e. the same that you can naturally get with traits/signets/etc. with most classes).
Flying is naturally out, as that would require the entire game world to be redesigned to accommodate it.

Really? 30 days to craft a set of armor. I’m a pretty active player, but, seriously, 30 days to craft a set of armor. It takes longer to craft a set of celestial armor than it does to craft all the legendary weapons in the game.
If you didn’t know, you need 5 charged crystals per piece of armor.
Celestial armor is dead to me. Sorry, but it is. It is a sad day.
If it makes you feel any better, Celestial armor was dead long before today. It is only marginally useful for two classes, and even for them there are better options. Overall it is the worst armor set in the game, so you aren’t missing anything by skipping it.
I’m curious about this assertion. I play ele and guard, and given their low health pool — celestial armor and zerker trinkets is a good mix IMO with the current critical damage stats.
It’s true that I get slightly less power and precision than I would with Berserker armor, but I get slightly more crit dmg % (this is the “bug” they’re fixing). The extra vitality is helpful because both have low health pools. The other three stats — healing, toughness, and condition damage — aren’t amazingly helpful, but they’re somewhat useful (as guard, I apply constant burning, healing does help a few skills, and most things don’t 1-shot me so toughness helps).
For ascended armor, assuming a mixture of zerker and valkryie armor, I’m trading 182 power for an extra 59 vit + 147 of each of (toughness + healing + condition) + 2% critical damage.
As someone who does occasionally get hit (usually when trying to get others up off the floor), I’m sure the vitality is helpful, and I think the other stats are marginally helpful — enough to justify that reduction in power.
But if the fix to critical damage doesn’t involve buffing other stats, then I’ll agree — without the extra crit dmg, I’d have crafted zerker instead. :-/
You’re curious about my assertation, and then you write a paragraph that sums it up?
Elementalist and Guardian are the two classes whose strength is in their ability to do a bit of everything, thus Celestial, which also does a bit of everything, is marginally useful for them. You’d still be better off specializing though.
Really? I just bought a new slot like 2 days ago.
Drat.
Mmm, well, I’ll keep an open mind. After one night of my standard (mapping + harvest everything) gameplay, and keeping a careful eye on my harvesting, no bonus ores were given while harvesting Silver, Iron, Gold or Platinum nodes. (This includes one Rich Platinum Vein.) All of this was done with the Molten Pick.
As to Orichalcum nodes, I run Obsidian Sanctum once every day and always harvest the nodes in there. The normal Ori nodes have always given me 3 Ori total (discounting bonus strikes); considering I farmed almost 1000 Badges of Honor purely from Obsidian Sanctum, the odds of me never getting 2 ores from a single strike seem astronomical to me. The only exception to this is on the rare occasion when a Rich Ori Vein shows up in there, and it gives you 4 (the first strike gives you 2 Ori instead of 1).
Again, all this Ori harvesting was done with the Molten Pick.
I’m actually starting to think that all of the unlimited picks are currently afflicted with the lack of bonus ores.
I’ve got several thousand samples now with 3 separate picks and both the Molten Alliance and Watchwork Picks have not given me any bonus ores. I did get a few bonus ores while using an Orichalcum pick.
Perhaps the percentage is quite low and I need more data, but I’m starting to lean towards calling it a bug (either it was a bug before that got fixed, or it is a bug now).
[Gems Available for Exchange (gold)] is a subset of [Gems Available]
[Gems Available] = [Exchange Gems at Launch] + [Achievement Chest Gems] + [Gems Purchased with $] – [Gems Spent in Store]
The majority of [Gems Available] come from [Gems Purchased with $], but there are some available “for free”.
Rich Iron nodes are unique in that they provide you with a stack of 2 ores per pick attempt. I’m talking about two stacks of 1 ore per pick attempt, which is the very rare bonus ore.

Hmm, I’ll have to pay more attention when I’m mining ore then, but I’m still quite certain I haven’t gotten bonus ore like that before. I harvest EVERYTHING I come across, and while I do notice the bonus wood, I haven’t ever noticed the bonus ore (this is all with the Molten pick), which strikes me as odd.
You don’t ever get more than 3 ores out of 3 picks, however sometimes you can pick 4-6 times. Wood can also sometimes be harvested for max 6 times and herbs up to 4 times.
However that also can only happen on your home server and not on guest servers.
Wood and herbs can also give sometimes 2 items per try on all servers, normal ore nodes not.
Not true. You can get up to 6 ores with 3 pick attempts. The likelihood of that happening appears to be statistically impossible, but getting 4 ores with 3 pick attempts is relatively common.
PvE Players complain about Gift of Exploration requiring going into WvW. Devs make Gift of battle even more WvW-dependant.
Ah, the logic…This is a good change. Legendary weapons should require participation in all aspects of the game.
The problem with that is people who don’t want to do wvw will now spend a lot more time there. This will lead to people not doing a whole lot to help, but rather just enough to get their rank up thus hurting your team in the process.
Those people should leave their WvW server and join a PvE one then. Come join us on Devona’s Rest… I think the fact that we’ve been dead last in WvW for months now proves our commitment to not caring about WvW.
I’m actually not sure that claim is correct, Smooth Penguin. With the exception of Rich Iron Veins, which do still give the 1 × 2 iron ore with strikes with the Watchwork Pick, I actually cannot remember ore nodes ever giving out more than 1 ore per strike. Wood nodes do in a 2 × 1 package, (and plant nodes give 1 × 2 of their vegetable), but ore nodes? Again, I can’t remember it ever happening.
It happens. It appears to be a very low chance, but it happens.
