I would posit that no one is being forced to spend money to get the mini, rather people who spend money are being rewarded with a free mini.
Perspective!
Hey there!
I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you to GW2 and extend an offer to join us on the pitiable Devona’s Rest server.
The guild I belong to is packed with people from Ohio (I am also here in Ohio) and we’re a friendly lot. None of us are “hardcore” and are always willing to help out/play together.
Don’t worry about it. Your Celestial gear will still function, and since it isn’t very good anyway, the ascended version also won’t be very good.
Continue playing the game normally and you will eventually have your set of not very good ascended Celestial.
Also, please buy my Quartz.
That’s the unfortunate price that you pay when you PUG. I recommend that you either try to always be the party leader, or join a guild that likes to run Fractals so that you will always be running with friends.
I wonder if he likes the Dredge Fractal. I’d like to hear anyone take a positive spin on that trainwreck of content.
I like killing Dredge, but that is only because I hate them so much.
There’s your “positive” spin :P
Personally, I think that they should have made it so that Dragonite Ingots (and the Bloodstone/Empyreal equivalents) are not bound, while the Ore/Dust/Fragments remain account bound.
This would allow players the option of either playing all aspects of the game or buying the materials that drop from sources they don’t enjoy. This would also make crafting above 400 somewhat valuable to the economy instead of locking everything to the crafter’s account.
I’m still going to get it for my Necro, but I agree it is lackluster.
I kind of liked the “Forge Fragments” idea, where you have a chance (say 30%) to get a collectible each time you drop in 4 rare or better items into the MF. Eventually, you’ll build up enough Forge Fragments where you can trade them in for a Precursor token (for the Precursor of your choice).
Workflow:
Is it a Greatsword? → Yes → We’ll get right on it.

No

Why are you asking?
If you’re using it a lot, you should be concerned. You’re getting more sigils/runes than you should have, which means you’re making gold that otherwise should not have entered the economy. In the past, that has been a bannable offense.
These sigils/runes are not worth too much individually, but all that extra gold adds up. I personally would buy some basic salvage kits and use them until this thing is resolved.
I bought it from Anet, I use it AS it’s intended to use. If it gives me more stuff. Nice. They cannot base it as exploit, because it’s an item that is specifically MADE for constant and frequent use.
Right. You paid extra money for this convenience item and are using it as intended.
The data we have suggests that it is not working as intended, which means it is up to ArenaNet to fix it (if it is bugged) or fix the description (if it has been changed).
Exploits are doing unintended things to reach desired results. Bugs are doing desired things and having unintended results.
Can you imagine the PR nightmare that would ensue if they banned players for using an item in game that was bought with real life money from the gem store?
No, they aren’t going to ban anyone over this. They are going to quietly patch it out at some point, but this is the kind of exploit that you can’t take action against players over because doing so would end your business.
Honestly, the top end damage is so far above the bottom primarily because they decided to skip the single easiest balancing step available.
Each armor type should have three stats:
1. Offensive (Power, Precision, Condition Damage)
2. Defensive (Toughness, Vitality, Healing Power)
3. Percentage Boost (Critical Damage, Condition Duration, etc.)
This would allow players to still customize their game experience and playstyle without creating such a giant disparity between the “best” and “worst” gear.
Since when do rules apply to the all powerful John Smith? Who dares to deny the Almighty “permission”?
:P
Honestly, capping direct damage would make all those other gear sets that are not Berzerker relevant for PvE.
You can’t get punished for using your salvage kit as you would normally do. The “bug” has been reported, carry on with your salvage. If it is not intended, they will change it.
Here is my post from back during his first appearance. It has some tips on how to beat him without using exploits (based on my hours of trial and error):
You can beat him without exploits, but it requires a combination of specific actions by you and pure dumb luck. You MUST keep track of his Water and Belch CDs in addition to yours (have a friend help if you find you are unable to keep track of that many things at once). You MUST get lucky and block 2-3 of his Water drinks in a row.
To save time, I strongly recommend resigning the moment any of these happen:
1. He does not use Belch on his first move (you should always drink on your first move).
2. He uses Critique before he has less than half health remaining.
3. You fall to less than half health before he does.
4. You fail to block 2 of his Water drinks in a row (he almost always uses Water every 3-4 turns once he gets to half health).
You will do a lot of resigning, but the only way I’ve ever beat him is when none of those 4 things happen.
I felt that sense of progression every time I climbed a new level with my friends. I definitely did NOT feel it when I grabbed a new laurel every day so I could wait out the time gate on amulets, and I’m not feeling it now that I need to collect infusions. There’s no enjoyment in grinding past a gear check, but there IS enjoyment in overcoming a challenge with your skill.
The fact that they have botched their implementation of progression so far does not change the underlying concept of what they are trying to achieve.
The gear check is supposed to feel natural so that you are “progressing”, not “waiting”.
Progression requires the feeling of progress over a period of time. Without the gear check that agony provides, skilled players can reach the end of the current program extremely quickly which eliminates the “feeling of progress over a period of time”. This leads them to become bored and either complain or leave.
Using the gear check, ArenaNet can impose an artificial roadblock to your skill level that forces you to play longer than you would otherwise have played.
You get the enjoyment of having the feeling of progress for a longer period of time, while they get to keep you playing longer, it’s a win-win, which is why it is the system used by just about every MMO to date for PvE progression.
PvP should be about skill checks for progression.
PvE should be about stat checks for progression.
Fractals are PvE progression, thus the presence of a stat check mechanism.
The confirmation that Ascended Armor is coming on December 10th has caused people who were procrastinating to pull the trigger on their purchase of the leather they will need.
There are almost definitely speculators making purchases as well, though the smart ones would already have a stockpile by now.
I could see gems as a reward for completing the monthly meta, but not for anything else.
The goal of gems is to get you to pay money and keep the servers running and the content flowing. If they make it possible to farm gems in game at any kind of non-horrible rate, they will only cause themselves to go out of business.
A small stipend of gems for doing the monthly meta each month could result in more gem sales, as you would get enough gems to make you want to buy something, but not enough to afford it.
First of all can we refrain from defaming 300 million people simply because they were born in a particular part of the world? I know it’s the cool thing to do these days, but it adds nothing to the argument.
If I follow the logic here, if it costs you nothing but time you’re an entitled tool for complaining. Every feature of the game is free under those terms. You have no right to complain about the drop rate of anything. You have no right to complain about having to spend time managing your bids in the TP. You’re not entitled to get a good price on the market, go out and find the items you want. It’s just your time.
It is poor form in my opinion to try to quash the feedback of other players by labelling it as not legitimate and attacking their character for having an opinion. Kittening uncivilized.
It’s a game and they are expressing something that is frustrating them. Would it be better if they just silently left without giving ANet any hints about why? As long as it’s constructive they should be able to complain without getting ridiculed.
One cannot defame oneself. Any comments made against Americans are self-deprecating in my case, and are an extension of the widely known stereotype (true or not) of the self-centered American. The goal is not to insult Americans, but to use the stereotype of the arrogant American as a measuring stick against which to compare the poor form of complaining about a gift.
On to the root: I paid for the game. Therefore anything that is provided for the money I’ve spent I have a right to submit feedback for. Gems are used to purchase new content that I have not yet paid for and are NOT included in the fee I’ve already spent. If I spend money for gems, I am entitled to complain about what has been purchased with said gems.
If, however, I accept the FREE gift of gems via the in game exchange system, anything I purchase with said gems is a gift, and any complaints I level ARE the result of a flaw in my personal character.
Feedback from such selfish, entitled individuals should not be quashed, but it certainly should be ignored by ArenaNet and ridiculed by the player base in general because it reflects the same kind of mentality that a spoiled 3 year old child exhibits at the grocery store when his parents won’t give him candy even though they just handed him a toy.
I disagree. Buying gems with gold has been a feature of the game since its inception and may have influenced some folks decision to buy the game. How do you distinguish features that are graciously provided, and therefore shouldn’t be complained about, and features that are ok to complain about?
I personally don’t have much of an issue with the exchange rate, but I don’t begrudge the folks that do the opportunity to give their feedback on it if they do it constructively.
They put in a system that allows you to convert the time you are already spending enjoying the game into gems, which you can then use to acquire FREE items that normally cost money.
No matter what the conversion ratio of time to gems is, you are getting FREE things. For FREE.
FREE.
Complaining about the rate at which you are gifted FREE things is abhorrent behavior, even for us arrogant Americans.
Love how a post on the first page of this says “1g -> 77 gems”
That was one year ago.
1g is now 11 gems…and someone please repeat how we don’t have a problem? XDIt will be another 6 months until 1g -> 1 gem. We all know, it’s coming.
The $(dollar or euro) to gem conversion has remained the same. How do we have a problem?
Buying gems with gold is an optional feature that ArenaNet has GRACIOUSLY provided to us. To ever complain about it is incredibly poor form.
I personally think that killing low level champions should reward low level loot (this would help with the Silver Doubloon problem, if done correctly). I am not opposed to trains, but I think they should be level appropriate. If you want level 80 loot, hit Frostgorge Sound or Orr.
I think it is masterwork or better, yes?
Honestly, I always wondered why the daily/monthly quests provided achievement points.
The laurels I get. The XP I get. Even the “random” (i.e. Mystic Coin, Karma bottle, and Luck Essence) rewards I get. The Achievement Points I don’t get. Most Achievement Point systems have a finite number of points that can be achieved, and usually provide a means of getting all of them. With the daily system (and with the Living Story nonsense), this AP system is essentially “broken” in that there are “infinite” APs available and previous APs are unavailable.
In a well-designed AP system, you can look at a guy’s score and say “Wow, look at what he achieved”. In GW2, I look at the score and say “Wow, look at how much time this guy wastes every day”.
I let the Mesmers and Thieves worry about rezzing people on the Fire Elemental. Any other class is just going to join them on the floor if they stop (especially since rezzing people often bugs and prevents you from dodging or using skills until the rez is complete or you hit esc).
I honestly don’t know why there is a market for gold sellers in this game. You can buy gold straight from A-Net with no risk of being banned, so why would you turn to the gold sellers?
Step #1: Go to your keybindings and set a button to toggle walk mode
Step #2: Get into position to attack the shield
Step #3: Using your keybind from Step #1, turn on walk mode
Step #4: Eat the fear, but only walk away instead of run (cutting the distance traveled)
Step #5: Toggle walk mode off and run back into position
Step #6: Repeat steps 3-5 as needed
I think they need to take a few minutes and simply replace all the elites with veterans.
Elites are fine when you have a zerg (or in a dungeon since they don’t respawn in 20 seconds). They are not fine when the content population dips.
I’d prefer it if they simply removed the pointless account bound restriction on the item. It’s gained through salvage for crying out loud!
Ummm you don’t really need to time your evades on a thief.
snip
I’m pitching a complete overhaul, so the current viability and access would be irrelevant.
I think that the steal function needs to be completely redesigned and the stealth access needs to be equal for all medium armor classes (either less for thieves, more for rangers/engineers, or a combination of more and less).
Thief survival should come from evades, not stealth.
And then we would be having a forum discussion on how Thieves have too many evades and its impossible to land an attack.
Timing evades requires player skill, especially against human opponents. Plus you can still see them which prevents them from simply resetting the fight if you gain the upper hand.
There will always be people who dislike a change, but people complaining about how they got outplayed by a guy who effectively timed evades shouldn’t be used as a reason to prevent good changes.

Have you tried doing a data file repair?
https://guildwars2.zendesk.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
Make sure your firewall is allowing the awesonium.exe (yes, that is the name of the file) process through. The Black Lion Trading Company uses a completely separate file from the main GW2 game to run, and it frequently gets blocked by anti-virus/firewall software.
This fallacy is appeal to authority — except it’s worse, you’re just assuming that because no action has been taken then the person who is an authority is happy with the status quo. None of your message was actually a response to the arguments for a minimum bid increment; the closest you came was saying that you’re happy with the status quo, and so are many other players. (I will grant that, with the caveat that some of those who are happy with the status quo would be happier with the proposed change.)
Appeal to authority is not always a fallacy, especially not when virtual “reality” is concerned. Had there been a JS post indicating that minimum increments are out, then it wouldn’t matter what logical arguments were posed, the “deity” of this reality has spoken and his authority is absolute.
As long as the person being reported didn’t say anything to them that could be considered offensive, ArenaNet will discard the reports when the game logs show that the person(s) did not do what they were reported for doing.
Filing false reports will get people in trouble, especially if the chat logs prove they did the false report maliciously.
The main reason that horrible people state in map chat that they are going to report someone is to get that someone to angrily respond and thus commit an action that can be legitimately reported. If you or someone you know is being threatened by a false report bully, please file a ticket against the threatener for harassment and threats, then put them on your block list. Do not ever respond to them.
Maybe we have to consider raising the benchmark from simply pass/failure to good/bad run.
I think there should be an option where if you turn it on, others can see your DPS numbers. For those that doesn’t want others seeing their DPS can just leave it off.
I’m not opposed to DPS meters, I’m opposed to them wasting development time creating one since the content doesn’t warrant it.
If they make harder content at some point where the benchmarks must be hit or else the party fails then you can expect to see my support for the DPS meter. Until then though, I’d rather have more/better content over unnecessary utilities.
DPS meters are only relevant in games where content difficulty is tiered and where gear determines the outcome as you have specific benchmarks that must be met or else the party has a high risk of failure.
This is not one of those games.
The minimum increment is irrelevant. You will bid until you reach the maximum amount you wish to spend at which point you will stop bidding. If you feel it is taking too long to get to that point or if you feel you are being forced to camp your bids for rebidding, you are always free to bid in whatever increments you wish.
I don’t want a trinity, I just want some kind of mechanic that makes it so that the absolute best option is not full zerker for everything PvE.
We’ve got a boatload of other gear stat combinations, and no good reason to use any of them.
every class except necro is screwed. All necro group = perma weakness on the enemy= ez mode.
The All Necro group would be suffering from the perma weakness, not the enemy.
All groups would be screwed, which would be fair.
weakness has no effect on conditions. Necros have 4 separate abilities to transfer conditions from themselves to the enemy. Putting a permanent condition on a necro is like them winning the lottery.
Not if the effect is treated separately from regular conditions and transfers/cleanses/etc. are ineffective.
It’s not a “good reason”, but I’m pretty sure that it is related to the fact that your first run is supposed to be in story mode, which is a different instance than all subsequent runs.

If you don’t believe me name a possible unique difficulty increase and I will be happy to point out which class is screwed over by that change.
Armor Corruption: Heavy armor will randomly apply 25 stacks of vulnerability to the wearer for 20 seconds. Medium armor will randomly root the wearer for 7 seconds. Light Armor will randomly apply weakness for 15 seconds.
I kind of wish that Ascended gear was no different from Exotic other than the extra infusion slot (to be used for Agony Resistance only).
The Steam Creatures always make me think of the Roboticizer from the old Sonic the Hedgehog comics.
