By this point we know that HoT is not a bundle of past seasons. It simply promotes what comes after season 2.
Ever herd of writing [spoiler] instead of actually spoiling content for everyone else?
And to everyone who might want to defend OP: the title itself was a spoiler before someone fixed it…
Maybe he doesn’t know how to make the spoiler mark.
Well :/
Anet is working on it according to their twitter account.
For me, personally, It’s really saddening that they’re still continuing ignoring Elona and Cantha, but, I’d be more than glad to be wrong if that turns out to be wrong with this supposed expansion.
Really, what about Tengu, Palawa Joko, The Empire Of Dragon, Sunspear? Why do we need all these new stories? Why can’t we just expand of what we already built in GW1?I suspect this is only the 1st of several expansions and I’m sure at some point it will be redirected towards Cantha, they know how popular it would be.
China is against Cantha, as far as we are lastly updated about the situation. Anet will probably not release an expansion if it can’t be bought by all of its’ costumers. In this case, Cantha will simply not make it to the chinese version.
Many of us want more skills, weapons, races and classes. These are the expectations we have been told about months and months ago, yet we only got 9 new (useless and expensive) healing skills. So these are our expectations: what we have seen for the past two years is not the full potential of ANet. If what we had was the best they could do… I can make a better game on RPG Maker…
- But what if the game was like RPG Maker and the stuff you can make is limited by what the engine is capable of doing? You’ll see them making tokens, skins and new maps because fixing something fundamental like bad UI and collision problems is beyond their abilities.
Then I would simply say their game don’t deserve the “GW” name. There are things that are unavoidable (or really difficult to fix), but many of their releases aren’t even tested (and if they are… Well the testers don’t do much).
They shouldn’t focus on being too different, they should focus on being good. And that’s were they somehow got confused and “failed” to delivered quantity and quality.
It’s not a matter of limitation, it’s a matter of organization.
One of Anet’s controversial decisions is their concept of always playing around with different systems. They usually try systems, revamps them, revamp again, scratch others, put in random other ones and the chain goes on.
Not that it is a bad thing. Just that this whole chian of experimentation creates a barrier between Anet and already working systems. I think Anet’s team is more than capable of introducing already working systems in a polished way. They just seem to prefer trying new systems or systems with twists and see hwo it turns out.
The Hype Train rolls on, fueled by tryhards who won’t be happy without an expansion, even though Living Story can deliver any amount of new content for free. They’ll keep hyping and hyping until the announcement, then blame ANet for not stopping them from looking like the idiots they are. After that comes the next wave of doomsday prophecies, then the “I’m quitting” posts, and in 6 months they’ll all be right back here again.
Living Story is not delivering any promotional impact in the market. People outside the GW2 community have 0 interest in the Living World and the system itself has very bad reputation.
Yeah, it is great to get things for free. However, if Anet can’t find a new way of making an impact in the market, it will be a matter of time before the game gets emptied. GW2 already has lost of its’ former popularity due to the bad reputation it has gotten when it comes to its’ update-model. Living Story is great at delviering interesting updates that usually keep people playing. However, it is far from a model that can make a commercial impact.
This idea is already discussed in the existing threads and it is a possibility.
However, whatever it is, it must live up to the community’s expectations, because most of us are going 1000mph aboard the hype train… And an accident would be devastating, on both sides.
- What expectations? It’s the same guys doing the same thing you’ve seen them do for 2 years already.
These ’’lazy’’ guys were the ones who created the most commercially successful release since WoW.
Yes OP this is the most unrewarding of any MMO I have played. I figured it only takes me a minute to login each day and click the daily this month. But still that’s 28 minutes and will not be logging in again till they bring out a new set of Legendaries with reasonable requirements or do something to actually make the game fun. However the forums are always entertaining to read and post in. But the game unfortunately is not as entertaining as the forums.
You need to get a life instead of wasting your time on a forum.
If they are planning to sell the chapters players missed they will do something like:
Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Living Story Pack
- Unlocks all available chapters for Living World Season 2
- Unlocks sPvP reward tracks, which grant players unique rewards.
- In-game items like Ley Line Finisher, and your choice of a Ley Line Weapon skin
etc.Trademarking something you intend on selling is a pretty good idea.
That would cause quite an outrage lol
I expect an outrage if it’s something else than Elona or Cantha. Eventhough it could be just as good
It is probably neither Elona or Cantha though or the last episode is going to have a huge plot-twist. Not to mention the issue Cantha has with a chinese release.
The naysayers are really starting to grasp at straws here
You are doing exactly the same too :0
People simply want a free expansion and Anet to put down their gemstore. That way, the game can evolve… or so is the assumption.
So how is this any different than
Guild Wars 2: Flame and Frost?
Guild Wars 2: Flame and Frost was not trademarked?
Yeah…. and Season 2 didn’t even have a title.
Its because different teams work on different LS episodes.
So a team from Anet went to Ncsoft offices and forced them to trademark a LS episode for the first time just because they felt like it. Makes sense.
If you pay a graphic designer to make a logo for something…. and you don’t put a trademark on it, then this happens:
Ok so Anet suddenly does the following:
1. They add a title to season 2, something that has never happened before. Seasons don’t have titles.
2. They add the title the last day of the season.
3. They trademark a logo for season 2, something that has never happened before. Seasons don’t get specific logos.
4. The logo can’t be used before 3 months.
It all makes sense now. Anet will release a logo and a title for season 2, three months after the season end.
I think Heart of Thorns is a good title for LS Season 2.
So maybe, after the final chapter gets released, there will be a boxed bundle including all 8 chapters that players, who pick up the game after LS S2 finished can buy.
Instead of paying 150 gems for each episode, they can buy it for 800 gems or 10 bucks, if Anet decides to put out a box to put in stores (for extra visibility).
PLEASE no! Let it not be! Although your logic is flawless and I cannot argue.
Although its 200 Gems per episode.
The Hype Train has long since past the last stop of Reasonable Argumentation.
One of the main reasons you came up with that theory is because you are not really interested in an expansion, in the first place.
So there is no difference between you and the ones hyping the expansion. Both of you want to believe in what you want. There is no reasonable argumentation. There are simply two groups of people, wanting to argument based on their biases. Really few people do introduce their opinions objectivly.
People have to be ready for the most probable scenario: ‘’this is not Cantha!’’
Anet is at a very crucial impasse right now and if they can swing a “Burning Crusade” this year, all this bickering and complaining on the forums may finally come to an end for a while. At least thats what i’m hoping for. Lets just pray they do the smart thing, and roll out a huge chunk of content to keep people enthralled.
This is the problem. You know why? Because an expansion is NOT THE SMART THING TO DO. Think for a second. All content in the game is currently available to every player at no additional cost, with the one exception of Living Story missions that you missed entirely. Now, what would happen if they made a paid expansion? All of that content would only be available to people who buy the expansion.
Not to mention that anything ANet could do with an expansion can be accomplished through the Living Story, and it won’t cost us a dime. You expansion pushers need to learn a little patience. ANet is trying something different here, and it’s actually working; why on Earth would they backpedal all over that and go back to an outdated model? Because less than 5% of the players have come on to the forums demanding an expansion, insisting that everybody wants it?
Also, there is literally nothing ANet can do that would end bickering on the forums, because that bickering is caused by immature people who want only to feel like they are better than their peers. It will always be this way, for as long as humanity (as we know it)exists.
The game will eventually die without an expansion because none else than existing players care about checking the Living Story. Expansions are rather about promotional impact. They aren’t only about sales. To create that commercial impact to gain popularitya gain, GW2 needs something more traditional like an expansion.
It’s intentional for the sake of the economy: The Gold Standard
ty for this, good reads
imo, after playing gw2 for 2.5 years, the most frustrating part of this game, above and beyond anything, is the reward system.
It is deflating, and it’s a grind.
Every other game I’ve ever played it’s been “oh goodie, a chest!! How exiting, I can’t wait to see what I get!”… until GW2.
Now, chests/bags mean almost nothing. There’s no excitement or anticipation. “It’s a bunch of time spent, double-clicking, with disappointing results”. Even worse, I get a bunch of bloodstone dust and those dastardly purple things, which I physically have to destroy. Can’t even get a copper for them.
“I want that skin!” Sigh, great. Now I have an untold amount of hours/days/weeks of grind-farming/harvesting ahead of me.
If it wasn’t for the fun I have with friends in WvW….I want to stick around and keep loving this game, & after reading your article "Breaking the Paradigm: What "Beyond the Point of No Return Really Means, I do feel a bit more hopeful.
I thank you for that Tacktix.
I don’t really think that Anet has issues creating a better reward system but rather than they are not willing to. The point is to make all parts of the game (or at least most parts of the game) as rewarding in which case it doesn’t matter if you run an easier dungeon or a harder one. This will give a chance to all players to progress by farming instead of being ’’forced’’ to get better at the game for the sake of the rewards.
While I would love to see a reward-system that has more depth, I would personally await alot of rage threads with players complaining as to why they are forced to play the hard content to get rewarded.
I believe we will get information about what is going to come in the near future however I don’t believe it will be an expansion. The way they put sounds like they are preparing a new model of how to introduce content rather than release a traditional expansion.
I don’t know how to feel about it. Personally, I think it is good to go back to the basics sometimes and Anet seems to be all into trying out different concepts and revamping them over and over again.
The patch seems to lead us to the Crystal Desert with the concept of ascension. The symbols are an indicator that we may end up adventuring in the Crystal Desert in the future. Especially with the return of Turai Ossa (assuming that the ghost in the trailer is Ghostly Hero) who once was the guide who lead the players into the Crystal Desert in GW1.
‘’for many, he is simply the Ghostly Hero, a champion who stalks the troubled wastelands north of Elona, eternally ready to stand beside its heroes.’’ There was some speculation back in time that Turai could have gone somewhere else after the ending of the ascension arc in GW1. However, according to the official manuscripts in Nightfall, he will supposedly be there for all eternity, ready to help those in need. It would be nostalgic for many to return to the Crystal Desert in that fashion.

Since the patch was released midday, those who already finished their dailies before the patch introduction that day would not get daily rewards again, since they got them with the old system. This eventually leads to a situation where some people are behind 1 day even if they have logged in everyday since.
If we only had Tolkein as the lead writer..
Besides knowing your class and recognizing your enemies in pvp, is there any possible way to become the “best” in something that isnt pvp related?
Getting 1-2 sets of exotic armor with a couple of weapons with “perfect” runes and sigils that you use in dungeons and exploring the pve world at lvl 80 doesn’t seem to be much of a problem.
I cant see any possible way of becoming better than the next guy i encounter in the world.
I could get ascended armor and legendary weapons…but that only increases my stats slightly more than the one with exotic gear.
Personally i can only see numerous ways of making my character “complete”.
Finish all story missions, finish all achievements possible, get them home instance nodes, get the most used armor/weapon sets + a dungeon ascended/legendary set, get the max pvp rank, do all pvp rewards once, titles…minipets that arent gem store related….100% world completion..
Keep collecting all daily rewards you can (such as wintersday daily achievements laurel, gathering nodes from home instances, dungeon rewards, megaboss events
There are a ton of things to do in gw2 but i just cant seem to think of anything that will make me a better character ,or a better player than the other guy.
Any ideas?
Most of the ‘’I am a better player’’ is based around your actual understanding of the game and your character. GW2 isn’t about gear and therefore, if you are looking to make a character and gear them up, it will most probably not take you too long assuming you will skip ascended.
GW2 is a game for collectors. People who like gear treadmill and ‘’building up their character to have the best stats’’ will probably not have too much to do. Otherwise, you won’t be able to run higher-level fractals without ascended. You need AR and you get that with the infusions on ascended.
Megaservers don’t necessarily mean you are going to see a lot of players. It’s an extremely buggy system with a sole objective: destroy any potential sense of community.
What it actually does is regroup a certain number of players from random worlds onto different map copies. When players begin to leave the map, it will more often than not result in shutting down the copy and shove the players left on it into another random existing copy.
Think of it like overflow maps, except there is no main copy. You are simply thrown into a map copy that needs more players. The system makes it an absolute nightmare to try and find people from your own world (for WvW or other homeworld-related matters), or even to participate in a large guild event, because players are scattered across different map copies at complete random.
So in other words, megaservers prevent maps from being empty, but they do not, by any means, increase the number of players on a normally highly populated map (like a city).
Believe it or not, it is not entirely random ^^
The issue here is that GW2 elitists are usually noobs who have just grinded their way to get the gear and AP. In which case, most don’t even know why they are using a specific gear-set and/or skill and would rather whine and complain without knowing the base for their arguments.
At least elitists in other MMOs know what they are doing :0
It is the same concept regardless.
Create a new character and you will have to re-collect the skills.
It seems they were trying to base the trait system off a similar one in Guild Wars.
In GW1, you just clicked a little arrow to put another point into a trait.
It’s Elite skill hunting that this is based off, and it makes no sense to do traits this way.
In GW1 you went around to collect skills. It is the same concept of ‘’exploration for the sake of build progression’’.
As mentioned, a simliar tool will make a few people happy while creating a huge wave of rage into the community that is not needed.
‘’Please have this done by next year’’ is the more appropriate sentence to use.
I like new trait system. In fact they should force us to do some other things as well.If we have everything we want under our reach, then we have nothing to do,no reason to play this game at all.
I can certainly understand and respect your viewpoint. However I feel that extra busy work isn’t a replacement for content. Especially when it can be circumvented for some gold.
There is no MMORPG with enough content. It is all about what the MMO forces you to do.
Conclusion: the tool is totally useless and it will create a huge rage into the community for the sake of making 10 elitists in the game happy.
If anyone want to be Elitist, deal with noobs, wrong builds, wrong stats. Do you know why? Because elitists should be elite players. So an elitist can do all, and teach others so they’ll be able to comprehend and do the same next time.
Elite players – sure they can do all that.
But dealing with noobs, wrong builds and wrong stats is a choice that has nothing to do with how good you are and how well you can play the game and carry.
It’s not that they can’t carry and teach. It’s that they don’t want to. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Playing well doesn’t automatically make me a teacher, or a person who enjoys spending times explaining things to others.
Playing well and efficiently doesn’t make me the type of players who enjoys helping others.
Playing well is just playing well. Stop trying to force this kind of pressure on good players. Being good doesn’t mean you are obligated to help or teach others.I could be (theoretically) so good that it would take me 1 button press to complete a dungeon and still wouldn’t carry bad/new players. Not because I couldn’t – but because I don’t want to. There’s nothing wrong with that.
This is a game where ( ironically) those who keep saying “play how you want” don’t understand that under that specific premise I can choose to play exactly how I want. And that means for myself.
You are assuming that people who use the zerker meta do know how to play the game properly while all others are noobs who don’t understand the mechanics of the game.
You remind me of those who complain and threaten Anet that if they leave, the game won’t have any vets left. Without vets = dead game… or so they said.
I would rather have a new gear-set over ascended. Why deosn’t GW2 start with gear-progression? I don’t think it can bring any harm.

I’m really surprised at how much both of the Lineage games still make
Lineage is still the world’s most profitable MMO of all time behind WoW.
I didn’t even notice it was a one year old thread.
Fancy regardless.
“I know you’ve all been waiting, and now we’re here. The moment is finally here when Arenanet can reveal the massive change we’ve been working on! This is huge folks. I can’t tell you how big this is. We’re excited! Are you excited?”
crowd: “Yeah!”
“I can’t hear you! Are you excited?”
crowd “YEAH!”
“This year, with our next patch, Arenanet is proud to announce that we’re changing the color of Trahernes eyes.”
Execpt that it is usually the fans talking to themselves and hyping things up.
race change is realy amazing and needed , about class change , never saw it in any other game but tbh there is a way anet can do it without worring about if people just jump to lvl 80 of theyr char without worring , wich is requiment of class cahnge is to already have that class at max lvl , so if my main is warrior and i want to change to mesmer i should already have a mesmer at lvl 80. soem of u might say why would some 1 need to change theyr class while they can make new 1 , well for me atleast my main feels diffrent i played it for a while and i love it its like me in virtual world XD
Why would Anet let you change classes/races when they want you to make a new character to play everything from the begining?
Bulding alts seems to be a thing for alot of people.
Making everything changeable will heavily decrease the popularity of having alts.
I want a profession changer…. for the race character you are currently using..
ex: You got a level 50 Necromancer Human and you want to change that character to a Mesmer instead.
This has even a smaller chance of happening.
I only like to play PvP, why am I forced to play PvE and WvW to get map completion?
I wish Anet will get rid of map completion in PvE and WvW maps and just give it for PvP players who like to play in costum arenas or else I am going to run around and scream that the game is dying.
There is already post touching on this report here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/GW2-Sneak-Peek-PAX-South/page/8#post4681482.
Regardless, i’m sure it’s about as accurate as any of our personal speculation. Invest in NCsoft, go go go!
Their speculation isn’t the same ours, no. Invesment companies tend to have connections in the industry to be able to promote reliable predictions. Yeah, it is not the same as an announcement from Ncsoft, however, an invesment company won’t just go there and release such info if they don’t have hints. They release such predictions, people invest. This is an industry and money is on the line. It is far from personal personal speculation that is usually based upon vague information that is hardly considered facts.
@laokoko: I don’t know about this group, but most invesment companies have inside information otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to ’’predict’’.
Eitherway, if they await such a huge spike in Q3, it means the announcement is probably coming this month.
(edited by nGumball.1283)
Analysts can throw off their speculation just as we can. No one is going to call them for not being right.
Some analysts have predictions as their job and therefore they usually based their speculation upon different indicators. ‘’none is going to call them out for not being right’’ is totally inaccurate because many will and these sources will lose credibility.
People invest money based upon simliar sources.
It is more than ‘’omg, I am a fanboi and I want an expansion’’ or the opposite.
so i heard that there is a big and amazing ending for lw s2 well lets jsut say that
lvl cap rises to 90 and at lvl 90 story we wil be able to choose who we want to be with dragons or this current thing atlaso its cool o see during these seasons dragons starts to miniplilate us caith could be the first 1 , i realy would like to join soemthing diffrent
also it realy sucks when we cant do anything bad during personal story i mean all our choice r between good things ….
ill be more than happy to sacrifice queen janah for dragons !
and belive me if the end of lw s 2 isnt this its not mind blowing :P
You won’t see the level cap rising soon if it is ever going to happen.
Aslo the idea of factions will also bring the idea of open world PvP to the table and GW2 isn’t the game for that.
I would personally consider the class first and choose a race fitting xD
I have alot of humans though so it is probably going to be something else at least.
Otherwise, I believe there is a much higher chance that a new race would come rather than a new class.
To make a long story short, the stats boost isn’t big and in most cases it won’t be too important. Ascended is wanted for high-level fractals, if you don’t enjoy doing that, then most people will probably tell you don’t them.
It is cool to have ascended and it does give you a slight stats boost, however the boost isn’t that significant and will most only matter in WvW in which case you would need to be a really good player to use these extra few stats in the first place.
You see alot of topics where people are quite unsure and therefore arguements start. When it comes to mounts though, most people in the forums and in-game who I have seen sharing their opinions about the matter, do actually hate the idea.
well i agree with OP .. before the dailies were just perfect. Now something like this can happen .. Forage plant in ascalon (ok) , mine in the shiverpeak(ok) now the rest of the dailies are PvP or WvW stuff you don’t want to do or can’t do …. and the last option to complete is a event like Fire Ele , Golem mark II or Jormag …. but wait .. you just logged in and missed the event by a few minutes.. now you have to wait 1 hour to get it done … some players don’t even have 1 hour of play time per day
It’s a good idea but some of the dailies is just plain bad like doing X amounts of event in a map .. this bring a massive zerg in a zone and the zerg do events at hyper speed .. so if you can’t catch up ….. well .. wait for the zerg to calm down and waste your time in the same occasion.
The dailies before weren’t perfect, we just accepted them because that was the only available system that we had. Same goes for most others systems that people are complaining about. Usually it is not even about how good or bad something is but rather that we are not used to do new stuff after getting comfortable we the old.
Same thing happened with WoW. WoW had its’ first expansion over 2 years after release and during these years, Blizzard’s forums looked the same as this one. Complaints and people wanting content. After the update however, alot of people started to complain that the company changed what was good with the game.
Frankly enough, WoW and GW2 has alot in common from a market point of view. Both had successful releases (arguebly the 2 most successful MMO releases in the last 10 years) and while WoW was apparently superior in popularity, GW2 still hold its’ own in today’s market. People ask for updates and yet feel sad to leave the old methods behind. I personally suspect that GW2 will end up the same in the coming years. Yeah, I await new content to be released and the game to be developed but I also await people mentioning the old days, pointing out that GW2 was best at release. Like how people nowadays say that WoW-vanilla was the real WoW and what came afterwards was lackluster.

If I’m forced into options that are not fun for me, I’ll simply move on to another game.
I love people who threaten companies with that line. Ok sir, good luck finding a single MMO title that doesn’t force you to do stuff.
Boring. Not interested in petty, passive-aggressive squabbling.
Boring to the point you replied to it.
Thanks for the compliment.
People should have been there when was WoW was released.
By this point, it had gotten fewer updates than GW2 and the first expansion was released over 2 years after release.
If I’m forced into options that are not fun for me, I’ll simply move on to another game.
