You kittens don’t even know what the prefix “meta” means.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
Flamethrower’s 1v1 potential is huge, but enough condi clear to deal with incendiary ammo and incendiary powder destroys any sort of potential it has.
maybe if you are rolling with a high condi dmg high crit spec that is designed to burn and infuriate as quick as possible, but there are many other builds that use the FT that do not need Incendiary Powder.
Also, typically, Incendiary Ammo is used when not in the FT to add burning to your pistol or rifle attacks to initiate the burning for the 10% dmg buff on Flame Jet to burning targets, which hits harder with a power spec than a condi spec.
The FT is very misunderstood; for example, most players still seem to think the old juggernaut was better than what it is now, and still think of the FT’s utility in that light rather than how it actually works today.
They are mistaken.
The FT is ideal for far point disruption and area denial, moreso than bombs, IMO, which are better at node defense because of their added heals with traits increasing bunker sustain.
The inductive reasoning in this thread is gargantuan.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
Traits aren’t just about buffing your chosen kits, but also supplementing them when complementary skills and traits that make your load out much more comprehensive.
While leveling, consider skills available to you which add or improve the functionality of your play style.
Frankly, dedicating the entire inventions tree to turret traits does the exact opposite.
Traits like Stabilized Armour, Protective Shielding, Energized Armour, Cloaking Device, and Power Shoes often add much more longevity to the FT while leveling up.
As it stands, turrets are rather ancillary (but still immensely useful) to most builds because of their overcharge or toolbelt skills.
Because of this, equipping them, but spending your traits on other skills will be more effective until Anet makes some serious turret changes.
If the community doesn’t want it after testing it, they can remove it from the rotation.
a PTR would also help substantially.
nice to see that im not the only one who think’s God’s opinion is “fullofhimself” and not really “ofallofu[s]”.
Thank you, Prozon and others.
NA pvp has this festering problem of the “big boys” who are the best at kiling the fastest with the least buttons think they are “the meta”.
it’s laughable and like a weed choking out the growth of this community.
Further to Jump Shot combo;
Rocket Kick also seems to negate the awkward pause.
of course, ( u )tility; and i think ( b )oon and ( r )estore are much more accurate, though my inner grammarian wants to keep it “boost” since can be a transitive verb, though now that makes ( u )tility not fit.
don’t ever be anal retentive, it can be quite kittening.

The Alchemy traits Hidden Flask and Self-regulating Defenses trigger Forumla 409 as if you used an elixir normally.
This is something more people ought to know about.
as if that wouldn’t rule.
Anet needs to look at this thread. People are sick of conquest.
correction …
“the vocal majority of people who take the time to post on the official forums appear to be sick of conquest.”
Don’t worry guys, new achievement rewards on Tuesday.
/golfclap
i’ve been told twice in the spvp thread that this is wrong, Yams, but I see it working the same way you do.
For the most part, turrets.
/weep
I think there is a bug, where “100% reduction” is being applied after the condi is applied, eg: i receive 5s if bleed that becomes 100% reduced and completely immune, vs “after cast pre-application” where that 5s bleed was originally 2.25 or whatever, and thus be reduced to 1 second.
Napkin math, sorry.
Also, rounding might be negating any fractional condi gains after reduction.
It pleases me that Anet has the resources to guarantee a major pve content release every 14 days.
If it is saying “immune” then bug report it.
So it’s not the map with the Trebuchet someone extracted from the game files some time ago? Or is this the map and the Trebuchet icon just did mean something differen(in this case that super cannon)
“sky” “hammer”
compound word, likely referring the the giant boom stick of asura supremacy.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
if your condition duration is greater than 100%, your conditions will still hit the engi with the change to this trait.
Reduced 100% means those crazy necro bleed specs with 133% duration still get one tick, for example.
New warrior shout:
“Exasperation :
5s Self-immobilize.
Warrior places hands on hips and shout “Oh, Brother!” while taking a healthy dose of reality. Allies within 240 range take 345 pity damage."
You could …. look at the list and manually select a side?
(edited by nakoda.4213)
because an OP warrior would be like the blenders on “Does it Blend?”
Yes .. yes it blends.
I can totally see why they don’t want OP warriors, but i completely agree that allowing other profs to be OP is kittened.
Engineer is difficult, which means it’s underpowered in the hands of noobs/newbs and overpowered in the hands of skilled players.
this must be the reason why top engineers changed from engineer to other professions
Because kittens like OEggs threw a tantrum because their favorite broken toy got fixed and now it doesn’t work the same as it used to.
One trick ponies have no place in competitive play. Good riddance.
our three best stun breaks are attached to:
• a 1300/10s regen on a 25s CD
• 2 seconds of 200% movement speed on a kitten CD (lol 45 + s is censored because it)
• 1s Stability + AOE Knockback on a kitten CD (spells a s … s in leet speak. Cute, Anet)
(our only reliable source of stability, mind you)
((edit: fixed because I was a nub and forgot about the RNG on Elixir S. Eff I hate the RNG in this game.))
and are available regardless of utility cool downs. that is, not effected by interrupts, dazes, or stuns since they are, are you ready for the big reveal? . . .
STUN BREAKERS! Stun breakers on out toolbelt which are also independent of our utility skills.
We also have: Elixirs S and U, as well as Utility Goggles.
If you think Elixir Gun, Slick Shoes, and Thumper Turret are
very bad utility skills that you shouldnt bring.
then I recommend you find another profession.
If slick shoes doesn’t fit into a DPS nuke role, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. If Thumper Turret doesn’t fit the area denial role, nothing does. If Elixir Gun isn’t the best kitten support utility in the game, I don’t know what is. It offers healing, cleansing, damage, weakness, poison, cripple, regen, stun break, ………. …. ……… ……….
Yet the kittens keep mew mewling.

There is no miss issue with the FT. I PROMISE, for reals.
Get closer. Turn off auto target. Practice strafing. Use the golems in the mists for practice.
If I had video capability, I would prove it to you.
Not being rude, but this is an L2P issue.
So you’re saying that using a feature built into the game, and that doesn’t cause any issues with any other skill, is somehow a learn to play issue? It’s a bug. And you have a “don’t be a jerk” issue.
aww, gee, and that was one of my friendlier posts.
It works fine with autotarget on too, in fact, as i have said in numerous other threads, i actually use autotarget enabled. disabling auto target is a piece of advice that often helps new users of the FT get used to pointing their camera forwards.
not sure how pointing your camera forwards is a “game feature” that is causing you to have issues.
seems like a user-interface error to me.
is the computer plugged in? is the coke bottle in the slide out cup holder?
there is no miss issue with the FT.
Engies did not get nerfed.
OstrichEggs got nerfed.
The rest of us were buffed.

the point of the toolbelt is to compensate for the loss of a utility when equipping kits, and is meant to add synergy between that kit and other chosen utilities. this is why many toolbelt skills on non-kit utilities seem weaker than teh rest.
This is just your opinion on the matter, though. I’ve yet to see any developer talking about the toolbelt in such a way.
Elixir R was, in effect, a one slot Elixir Gun. It was too powerful and needed to be fixed.
Again, just your opinion. The effect of Elixir R itself was still weaker than similar utilities – like thieves’ signet of agility (30s cooldown, refill endurance and cure a condition on every ally, plus a passive effect that gives 180 precision). It made up with the toolbelt, sure, but even that has its counters. If people don’t use them, well, this is just their fault. We shouldn’t be punished because other people aren’t able to use a knockback, fear, a launch or simply stop attacking for a couple seconds when required.
Now, personally, i would have liked to have seen the stunbreak/end regen have stayed, with the toolbelt skill changing to something less OP than a twice spammable self/group rez..
Again, see above. And it was usable a second time only with a trait conveniently placed in a non-tanking related tree – to take that, you would have lost some survivability anyway.
You need traits to do a lot of things, Manuhell.
i have to stop feeding trolls. soz everyone.
Elixir R did too much for a single skill
Seems like many people don’t understand this part: utility AND toolbelt. It is part of the class mechanic of the engineers. If it wasn’t better of a single skill, the engineer class mechanic would be useless.
And so it can’t be balanced by simply comparing the skills.

and three week old talking plants with no brains and a penchant for buggery who wield earth-changing-universe-shattering magic makes sense?
ps: the FT has many sources of burn: flame jet, napalm, incendiary ammo, and air blast. you can stack it with blowtorch if you so please, or even the flame turret.
stop thinking like the kit is where all of your skills come from. you need to learn to weave and supplement your utilities in to your kits to maximize their effectiveness.
even nades need HGH and elixirs to become OP, by themselves they are average.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
Granades that are more destructive than Mortar
FT that almost doesnt burn
EG that is better whit power than condition
you’ve answered your own questions right here.
grenades are the engi go-to DPS kit, they are meant to be high dps. mortar is a situational utility.
If you are having issues making things burn with the FT, then the problem is with you. L2P.
How does an Elixir Gun not equate to condition damage? Acid .. Glue .. Poison spray .. healing fields ….
i mean …
well trolled sir, well trolled.
i’ll bite, troll?
that was awesome. they just kept coming and dying. i love fights like that. i like watching things come together like when your combo landed on the thief in the second fight.
top tier play.
I hope ANET considers keeping this though. This doesn’t seem too broken, but it’s just plain awesome,g iving the engineer a completely new role!
(Only the Engineer is capable of flight!)
Ride the Lightning (ele) was like this a LONG time ago. Trust me, we players can’t have nice things. This is going to get nerfed, and if I know ANET, it’s going to get nerfed HARD.
exactly what i wanted to say just now
Rocket Boots do not have an AOE knockback at the end either.
I mean, do you think we’re phantasm mesmers? With 4.75 stunbreaks per minute, and 10 pseudo-stunbreaks per minute on sword & staff? LOL.
LOL indeed. I would buy gems if gems could buy a mesmer nerf.
quote of the kitten day.
addendum: and since you need “a ranked or popular person” to tell it to you, here is Five Guage Chaith …
who begins by saying:
Engineer is largely untouched in tPvP, seeing as your hand was never forced to include Elixir R, or a shield offhand.
threads like this demonstrate the over all disconnect between the sheltered spvp community and the game at large.
in the engie forum, these changes are being looked at positively (moreso the shield change).
the few mew mew’ers in this spvp forum are just having a tantrum, plain and simple.
I’m looking at you Eggs, denouncing the whole class because mommy and daddy took away your toy.
(edited by nakoda.4213)
You can’t simply compare a skill and his toolbelt to another utility and whine that the first is stronger.
let’s be clear.
i am not the one whining about anything, here.
My spec got buffed…again.
And none of that functionality has changed, only the stun break. It sucks that you have to now slot something else or something in addition to R if you want a stun break. Rocket boots lost the stun break too. Healing mist got some, so did rumble (but why? >.<!)
Regardless, the nerf to R is not unwarranted, and we have myriad new options to go with it.
It’s not my problem you think that throwing nades and self rezzing in a GC spec is the only place for engies in the meta.
Learn to adapt. I sincerely wish I could devote more than a few nights to this game a week.
It always bothered me Nakoda that you present your tpvp “knowledge” to ppl without ever having been rated top1000 (which honestly IS NOT THAT kitten HARD!).
And then Anet thinks kittening Power / FT / Bunker or whatever it is u play is balanced-.-
kitten that kittenIs anyone in this thread except ostrich and me even in ladder?
In fact i need to kitten as well because ostrich has like 1.5K+ Twins which is INSANE!So now that i got all the asskissing and flaming out of the way – commence as you wish
I play thrice a week for an hour or three.
Keep stuffing those kittens, you clearly aren’t full yet.
If my spec has continually been buffed, marginally balanced, and always dodged the direct nerf bat, id say I’ve done something right.
And if that doesn’t suit your concept of one button meta challenge that isn’t my problem, a d will continue to be unproblematic.
Mew mew go the kittens!
Mew!
PS Iam better than you, and I don’t even have to prove it.
I swear the people making this list have never fought a competent engie, Eggs included.
As if the elixir R nerf broke our class.
One skill could: stun break, end regen, and revive … twice.
It can still end regen and revive…twice.
Kittens. All of you.
As if R was our only defensive skill.

Not being rude, but this is an L2P issue.
1) Why aren’t Warriors able to torment?
2) Why do turrets still have no survivability if you intend for us to leave them out?
3) Why is it taking so long to sort out a leader board and queue system?
@Uberkingkong This thread is for thoughts from top engineers or engineers who are on teams and play in tournaments like mist league and such.
You clearly don’t understand this game well enough at a competitive level to post here. Please stop.
PS: Find 1 team that runs an engineer bunker in a top 3 finish at a major tournament.
Stuff yourself with kittens right up your litter box. Who are you?
A person behind a keyboard like everyone else.
Rifle ft rocket boots net turret supply crate. Far point assault, team support, bunker.
That was pre patch. Trait allocation post patch makes it bunkier and so much better.
This thread makes nak sad.
Especially Eggs. Your pessimism is worse than mine.
Im going to wait for the dust to settle, but all you peeps putting the engie so low are funny.
Eggs, im shocked. I know R was your baby, but this latch opened up myriad options for us.
i wish i had time to respond before work. there are several bunker builds for tPvP, the new patch opened up two new exciting ones for me. FT, and EG.
Check my sig for the FT builds, not much has changed in the most recent build, all the info is in there.
the new EG build is 0/10/30/30/0, cleric’s amulet/knight jewel, 5 earth + 1 engi rune, swapping out Jugg for Automated response and Energized Armor for Elite Supplies.
anyway, i really have to boogie, experiment away, when I get home I will flesh out this post. not much should be a mystery though, straightforward builds.
