Anyone who spends enough cash and exchanges gems into gold can purchase a legendary weapon.
You just answered your own question.
It’s the same thing! Make a new character in GW2. Go hunt for your traits in the world, instead of buying them. Bam. It’s elite skill hunting in GW1.
Take off your nostalgia glasses or else admit you’re a hypocrite.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Skill_tome#Elite_skill_tome
This is more or less a direct comparison to having to run out somewhere in GW1 and do some menial task to put another point into a trait. Does that sound fun to you?
Also, tomes don’t unlock anything that isn’t already on your account. Nearly all non-elite skills can be bought from trainers, with some exceptions.
http://store.guildwars.com
Roger that.
(Bonus: The gemstore we have in GW2 tends to offer most of these things a lot cheaper and with the option to pay for it with in game currency.)
I’m a veteran GW1 player. I have the complete series. I used it’s gemshop. GW1 was a great game.
The GW1 “gem store” was not advertised at all and had practically nothing compared to what you see in GW2. Your “bonus” is in fact a detriment because Anet is encouraging the player to make microtransactions and use real-world money for to buy gold.
Further if you like GW1 so much, you know, it’s still there.
Indeed.

Hmmmm…
Fellblade?
I’d do it for fellblade.
maybe.
mhh. mmm.
~gets comfortable on fence~
I love my Fellblade, but good luck trying to get 23 points when you’ve never even played the game before. That could take a while.
Mind blown? Am I the only one who likes GW2 a lot more than GW1?
GW1 frustrated the hell out of me with its missions where you have to restart everything over on the first wipe. Then you get tons missions especially in Factions where you have to keep Leeroy Jenkins alive. Just frustrating. I didn’t even finish War in Kryta. The only reason I kept playing was because I’m an armor set addict and I wanted the Heritage armor set for my GW2 character.
This isn’t to say that there’s nothing in GW1 I wouldn’t like to see the devs bring over to GW2. Far from it. Elite skill hunts were very cool, subclassing was very interesting, the number of viable builds was impressive, heroes would be super cool in GW2 instanced content, the variety of skins was such that whatever look you had in mind, GW1 had something for you. I could keep going, GW1 had a lot of very good ideas that should be brought over to GW2, but so far I had more fun with the second game by a long shot.
Yes, you’re the only one.
Also for anyone buying this, the correct order is Prophecies (Tyria) → Factions (Cantha) → Nightfall (Elona) → EotN (Tyria GW2-tie-in)→ the GW:B stuff (WiK (Tyria) → HotN (Tyria) → WoC (Cantha)). If you ever finish all that, expect to feel like the story just dropped off, and then you’ll see why the Lore subforum is always so angry.
I think what makes me most upset is that they never rebuild anything that they destroy in the “living” world.
Rotscale is a bone dragon, Kuunavang and Shiny are Saltspray dragons, and Glint was a dragon (who only had eggs).
Therefore, we have one species of extinct dragon, and two species of living dragon (including Glint, assuming there are more because she had eggs). The whole “elder dragons” and “Glint was a champion” thing shouldn’t be factored in here because that was just a way to explain away the contradictions when they made the game.
In conclusion, there are/were three different types of known dragons in GW1 (minus GW2-lite AKA GW;EN). None of them made any appearance in GW2.
I personally wish they WOULD steal from GW1; steal some imagination maybe. We could do with less “it’s this because dragons” and “we must kill dragons because dragons are bad”.
Minipets have been, are, and will always be cosmetic.
EDIT: I will also add that minis are not at all consistent with lore, with some exception such as the Orange Tabby Cat and Rockfur Racoon, which would be that size. You don’t seriously believe the Pact would be cool with that miniature Tequatl the Sunless that you let walk around your feet?

Hey guys….. if you are anything like me, then you are a huge Guild Wars fan, and you have played and loved both the original Guild Wars campaigns as well as Guild Wars 2.
As you may or may not know, Guild Wars 2 takes place 250 years after the events that took place in the original Guild Wars…
…but it is still a big mystery what exactly happened during this time period. Particularly… What happened to the creatures/races of the Guild Wars world? Some of them were changed drastically or even removed entirely from the world of Tyria as we know it in Guild Wars 2.
I want to start a discussion about the creatures of Tyria and see what you guys have to say about what happened to them.
I’d really appreciate any comments or ideas you may have, so feel free to contribute your two cents!
I’ll try and stay away from creatures that are found in areas that we haven’t seen or have been able to access yet in guild wars 2.
…and this is by no means a complete list.
Why are they so different from Guild Wars vs Guild Wars 2:
Skelk
(used to have several different types… now has one appearance and it looks more like a behemoth gravebane of GW:Nightfall than any of the Skelk from Guild Wars… )Krait
(was a shapeshifting race, that no longer transforms….. and now acts more like the Naga of GW:Factions…. aquatic, builds structures, etc.)undead
(no skeletons…. no phantoms…. why all recently dead, humanoid ghost, or orrian zombies?)What happened to…?:
Behemoths (stationary snakelike creatures with legs)
Aloes
Gargoyles
Nightmares/Vaettir (Ascalon Catacombs just don’t feel complete without the Gargoyles and Nightmares!)
Scarabs
Mursaat
The Seers
Reed Stalkers
The Stone Summit Dwarves
Hydras
The Forgotten & Enchanted races
Mandragors
Exotic Elementals such as flowstones, burning spirits, Wisps, AvalanchesWhy does it look so different now?:
Ogres
Irukanji
Skelk
Trolls
Giants
Krait
I agree, but on the topic of the undead:
It’s important to remember that the undead we saw in Kryta were Orrian undead that were raised by the Cataclism/Vizier Khilbron and were likely all killed by the time we see in this game.
Many other races are just dead or nearly dead. All Stone Summit were killed in the war with the Deldromor, the Forgotten probably never left the Crystal Desert, there is only one Mursaat that escaped the Battle of LA, there were only two known seers to begin with, both in places that are now innaccepible, and we still do have elementals.
I do agree that we strangely don’t have some things such as aloe and scarabs, which were so present before, but then you look at the lands that are now Kryta, and except for the sparse instances of swamp, one can hardly tell that it was Kryta at all. In addition, the GW2 “Maguuma Wastes” looks nothing like the GW1 Maguuma Wastes.
It’s disappointing, but not everything is the same.
Necromancer Tyrian Armor
Mesmer Elite Kurzick Armor
The idea of having a dye template is a common suggestion, and a great one. It’s been floated to the development team before, but I just raised it again as an idea to remind them about it.
We need trait/skill templates first. Remember how we could save our builds in GW1? We need that. Desperately.
Everything sounds good, except that they also put the “locked” gem store skins in your wardrobe, as if to say “you know you could have this right? just buy it with real money! We’ll remind you every time you press ‘h’ to buy this! Just buy some gems guys! please!”
We don’t need a new race. Guild Wars was great with just humans.
I’m a little worried it’s Guild Wars 3.
Actually, that’d be amazing, if it reminded of GW1 a lil bit more than GW2 “does”.
The best thing for a GW3 would be GW in an open world
What do you mean by that?
Take the original GW and put it in an Open World environment. No instancing except for missions, Elite areas, and PvP. They could even just make it single profession instead of dual-profession. Basically, give us what was promised in the Manifesto.
Then how is it remotely like GW1?
Maybe we should be happy everything they have described so far is completely trivial. After the April 15th destruction of the trait system I am not sure ANET is capable of making a change for the better. Nothing they have presented for “new” characters comes close to making me want to create a new character. I love making alts and I tried several since the trait change. When they got to 80 they didn’t have any traits except for ones obtained by accident. I bought the ones I wanted and those characters will never try alternate builds until if ever the trait system changes.
Let the GW1 team step in and this game’s going to be bonkers! /dreams
I think the GW team is dead or something. It would make sense the way GW:B just stopped suddenly. They must’ve all died suddenly and Anet is trying to cover it up.
I’m a little worried it’s Guild Wars 3.

Also, here’s a wild suggestion for the downed thing….Place the downed skills in the character skills UI area so i can see what skills I have BEFORE I’m downed!!!!
This is a good idea, look at this devs. The one thing that I found difficult when making a new character was finding out what my downed skills did before I got killed.
they are just porting these things over from the china version (were they did appropriately spend the resources to improve new player experience)……so very little resources were expended on these features (and this applies to ALL of the features announced so far, especially when compared to the major overhauls of last feature patch).
this means one of three things:
1) next weeks blog posts will reveal much more substancial “features”.
2) this feature patch is extremely minor….deal with it.
3) this feature patch is extremely minor….because we’re going to announce an true expansion for later this year.
To be fair, it probably required a fair amount of work to integrate it in an environment that already has been running for two years, and then to test the new environment.
I’m still hoping that Trahearne will start on his Krakky attack plans after Mordremoth LS is dealt with like he mentioned at the summit, which will take us to the Crystal Desert.
I see quite a few posts about expansions on the 1st page. What exactly is the most important feature of an expansion for everyone?
more levels?
more zones?
more gear?
another race?
another class?
A larger story arc?
dungeons?
new features like raids/guild housing etc?what’s the main reason behind an expansion that can’t be done through LS releases?
New zones and a new story arc mostly. New armors/weapons/skills/dungeons would come along with that naturally.
Do the new changes mean I can’t do WvW until I level to 18? What’s with all these restrictions?
Letting people know what is available is one thing, but restricting certain things until you reach a certain level is just MORE confusing and unnecessary.
they originally planned on “regularly adding new skills and traits to the game” during last year, but for whatever reason they didn’t.
imho we really do need new skills and traits to be a regular thing.
(every few months or so)
Well there’s that Antitoxin skill that no one uses, and each profession got a new healing skill that everyone uses. So there’s 9 skills right there!
I keep reading this part does this mean traits will be unlocked when you level now or do we still have to do the chores.
Regarding unlocking traits, the New Player Experience will effectively be exactly the same, except in the way it’s presented to players.
Well that’s disappointing. You should consider reverting to traits unlocking when you reach the level. Right now having to unlock the traits feels like a punishment. It also just doesn’t make sense; I don’t see how completing Arah Story Mode somehow allows my pet to learn how to regenerate health.
(edited by narwhalsbend.7059)
If I use an Experience Scroll, will I get the rewards from each level?
I opened this thread thinking you were asking Anet for the Commando armor from the commando “profession”. I’m a little dissapointed.
i wished they add the traits template to the feature pack, just like in GW1.
This a million times.
Dragons were a lazy ploy in the writing anyway. I want the writers that worked on GW1.
Ah you mean the good old evil god is behind everything was better? ^^
No, but it wasn’t just “Abbadon is evil we must kill him!” Varesh was the big bad for most of Nightfall until you got through the Desolation.
Dragons were a lazy ploy in the writing anyway. I want the writers that worked on GW1.
I think there’s a disconnect between what content we get, and what content players feel they should be getting. If you’re asking the question “has there been content?” then the answer is, of course, yes.
If you’re asking “does the scope of the content we’ve received match what we received in GW1?” then the answer is very far from yes.
I don’t think anyone is really arguing that we haven’t been given content, but given that Anet is four times the size they were when they made GW1 and working on a larger budget game, they’ve introduced an incredibly tiny fraction of what we received in GW1 in the same time frame. That means skills, weapons, explorable areas, classes, dungeons, hard mode, etc. Living Story has, so far, failed to introduce this entirely, or on a scale that matches GW1. The game is also still missing features which should have been present at launch, like Guild Halls and GvG.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that Anet has released content. It just doesn’t nearly match the scope of GW1.
This.
Double this. I don’t know how, but the GW:B team produced amazing content with little resources.
The bug with upleveled toons in WvW is hilarious though.
Yeah, saw that. Super players. Probs should hot fix that ANET.
What is it doing?
meh if its for account/first char birthday i gotta wait for about half a year, prolly wont even be playing by then. oh well, another time gated thing i guess.
It’s for a character’s second birthday.
This is not a feature patch, most of the things announced are simply fix wanted from community since 2 years (f.e. commander). Now i should wait other 6 months for class balancing and needed fix, meanwhile, no sab, no legendary, no class, no races,no pvp improvement….should i continue?
They call it a “Feature Pack” because “Old Fixes That Were Requested But We Never Bothered to Do” sounds bad.
I heard in LA map chat that you can. I cannot confirm myself though.
Level 80 scrolls would be amazing, but I’ll take what I can get, even if that may be anothre level 20 scroll.
If you think GW2 Dry Top is dead, you should see GW1 Dry Top.
We already got our gift! The gift for 2 years of loyalty is the ability to pay slightly less on certain items they want you to buy in the Gem Store™ for ten days!

I would vote to let Anet choose, because having the forum choose would just be “GIB MOUNTS PLZ” and other stuff that will never happen. I would hate the CDI to just be “I’m sorry, but we will never be doing that.”
You will never see player-usable airships. Deal with it.
Once again, go back to WoW if you want “mounts”.There’s always one. I wish ANet would add in a forum rule “If it’s not constructive, GTFO!”
I think a better rule would be “don’t create the same thread thousands of times.”
There is just no place for airships, aside from as a guild hall in the same vein as GW1 guild halls (it’s a separate instanced location and nothing more).
Airships would be ridiculously OP in WvW (fly right into my keep!), have no place in PvP, and are game-breaking in terms of balance (horde of mordrem? I’ll just float above them and shoot them with my bow).
That is not even to mention that the game just plain can’t support them mechanically; the zones are designed for foot traffic. They already put up these ugly mountains where they have no business to be just because they wanted us to be able to swim and jump. What will they do now to block airships from just sailing over them? How would you fly an airship through a dungeon? Or underwater? Speaking of mechanics, what about the huge drain on resources the dozens of airships will be on the servers?
This is why I said what I did. It’s never going to happen.
You will never see player-usable airships. Deal with it.
Once again, go back to WoW if you want “mounts”.
I want to get Ascended armor, but I have 60+ gold worth of runes on my temple armor.
Come on Anet.
You are forced to wp out. Anet is getting creative with goldsinks.
Anet’s precious gem store closing? I highly doubt it.
@narwhals: It does mention that the towers are “heaven-reaching” and the architecture itself is astounding in the eyes of a human. If I look at the jade architecture, I think of dark, foreboding, alien, but not astounding.
If you look at the mursaat — their physique, their clothes, their armor, their grace — you see superiority, radiance, and gold. Does the jade architecture gives this back? Nope. Henceforth, it is obvious the structures Saul had seen are very different from the one the players had seen in Guild Wars 1.
Also, do not try to dismiss the connection that the White Mantle also took up golden and white as their colors, which was actually started by Saul D’Alessio, who was given his robes as a gift by the Unseen Ones:
“Saul D’Alessio returned to Kryta a changed man. His rags had been replaced with a sleeveless, pure-white robe embroidered with golden thread.”
You can have your images of mursaat military architecture. I have all the proof I need to support my claims.
You have conjecture. No one except Saul has seen the Mursaat cities. While it is reasonable to assume that much of the White Mantle’s architecture and style was based off of what he saw, it’s still conjecture.
Magumma wastes is a desert.
Yea, I bet you’re confused now.
The Maguuma Wastes were supposed to be a wasteland, not a desert. In GW1 they were just dried up plants and hard, dry earth after parts of the jungle became barren. It’s the new GW2 team that made it into a desert full of sand and rocks because they never played Prophecies.
And after years of patient waiting following the presentation my “the mursaat had a strong presence in the Maguuma” theory in 2009, I can finally return and cross fingers that it will be proven correct.
As for their architecture, narwhalsbend:
“On the fourth day, delirious with hunger, Saul emerged from the trees to see what he thought was a hallucination—a city of massive towers reaching into the heavens. The architecture was astounding, and the creatures who lived here were unlike any he had ever seen.”
I’ve been speculating for years that the “bloodstone architecture” found in the Ring of Fire is “grown” out of the bloodstones themselves, and they serve as resources for military purposes — weapons, the jade armor constructs, walls, mursaat towers powered by souls, mursaat batteries, etc.
While their ancient, “civilian” architecture is the one of golden, empyrean towers and the like. Much like those structures we saw in the vision.
That quote mentions nothing specific, other than that the buildings were tall. I, however, have images of actual mursaat architecture.
During one of my random browsings I came across an old thread from LS S1 with a screenshot of Scarlet’s lair where there were her drawings on the desk. One of them represented a red eye with black glow (all of her drawings seem to be black & red). I did some googling and found that some Mursaat structures have some kind of red eye gem.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y270/SaNesuke-SaiNt-Sagara/mursaattowers.jpg
As for the vision, the towers look similar to the Mursaat towers. There are so many theories about the Mursaat, the blood stones and Mordremoth that it almost seems likely the next few episodes are going in that direction, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. It’d be really nice if it turned out to be a mix of old and new lore, not just mainly new lore with a few hints of old.
I think the pictures you’ve sent may have just strengthened the mursaat theory.
I do believe the mursaat had a hand in the world summit attack. I also think one of two things, although I’m not sure as to which theory is stronger:
1. The mursaat are trying to prevent mordremoth from gaining all this magic/retrieving the bloodstone power, so they leaked the world summit event to educate the leaders that they need to band together to stop this from happening.
2. The mursaat have somehow gained control over mordremoth and are using him to find the bloodstones, which is/was one of their intentions in gw1.
There is only one Mursaat that is (maybe) alive, or maybe it’s the Seers of which there are two that are (maybe) alive. If you’re going to plot the return of any race, it would be the Forgotten, who were very closely tied with Glint and the Gods.
The first point of your theory is pure speculation with no evidence, as is the second, which makes incorrect statements about the motivations of the Mursaat. In GW1 the Mursaat knew about the locations of at least two of the bloodstones. They weren’t hunting for them, they were using them as tools to reach their goal of keeping the Door of Komalie closed.
Besides, this is what Mursaat architecture looks like:
My top 4 (besides many, many more i also liked):
Envoy Sword Farmed Z-Coins so hard until i got it.
Emerald Blade Most beautiful sword skin in GW1. Sadly never got it
Elite Kurzick Mesmer armor (female)
Elite Cultist Necro armor (male)What i definetly don’t want to see: Obsidian Armor. They were all so ultra fugly imo, I always refused to get one :s
I used Elite Kurzick on my Mesmer. Easily the best mesmer armor.
Necro Tyrian Armor please.
Some Risen females wear T3 cultural light armor.
The best character in gw2 is, objectively, Tybalt.
You misspelled Sieran.
