I’m glad I’ve already done the personal story three times and already experienced all three different fears, but I want to experience that again on my other characters, and I want everyone who hasn’t done them yet to do it as well.

This. These personal story changes are probably the worst part of this patch.

Hi all. Thanks for the welcome notes. I’m excited to be here.

To respond to a couple of your questions/comments:
• The old writers are still here and we’re all a team. This is a new position that ArenaNet created as part of their commitment to tell the best stories possible.
• Yes, I spent a lot of my career at Disney, but my passion is building great characters and telling great stories, regardless of genre. So, don’t expect the Elder Dragons to break into song anytime soon.
• Now that you mention it, I would probably buy a Charr backpack. But that isn’t my department or my focus. I’m here to make sure we have a strong overall story, that we find the best ways to tell it, and that Narrative works with Design, Art, Audio and the other disciplines here to create the best experience possible.

I’m eager to hear what you think is working and what you think needs improvement, so let me know. I look forward to more chats.

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy your time on the forum before you get the red tag and become subject to endless rants and enormous lists of ways the game is forever ruined.

First off, I implore you to please read the plot of the original Guild Wars games. Though you may not have the time, actually playing the games would be even better. If there’s one thing we need, it’s more stories like GW1.

My second request is that you try to learn everything about the lore of the game. Lore is very important to those of us that played GW1 and I would hate to see it be even more inconsistent than it is now.

Ranger pets

Hi first time poster.

This may have been asked/addressed, however I wish to point out the info on pet locations on the wiki is highly out of date. ( IE: The forest spider in queens forest is located by the champion spider queen. ) as well as the spider mentioned is non existent. No more juvenile spiders are there. No juvenile river drake underwater by the west queens dale dam. The juvenile bear is no longer at the bear shrine. Any idea where those juvenile critters scurried off to? I have not confirmed other locations but these.

Also the bunny shrine in wayfarer foothills is moved, I assume because the bunnies used a push back effect that may have pushed players off the cliff. The respite vender is sill up the hill where it used to be.

Those might have all been changed by the patch yesterday. If you see where they went, just edit the wiki with the new location. Otherwise, just keep looking.

I am generally discussing Guild wars 2, so yes, this is on topic.

I’m not sure if any of the GW1 people still work on it. On the forums I see Gaile Gray and Stephane Lo Presti, but neither of them actually make the game. I just don’t see how the same people could do this.

In GW1 there was a limit of 20 minipets per instance. Of course, they were really tight on budget then (though they still found ways to be amazing).

You’re playing the game wrong. You’re not supposed to be grinding for xp.

Obviously. What with the loss of the massive experience boost received in the personal story quests, I guess completing every heart in every low level area is the only way to go.

Personal Story, September lunacy

narwhalsbend.7059

Hey,

I have been playing Guild Wars 2 for quite some time now, as well as frantically recommending it to my friends who don’t already play it.
I have searched the forums for about an hour now not finding any help, whatsoever, from Arenanet when it comes to threads for feedback regarding the personal story update.

If this goes completely ignored, so help me god I will quit playing the game altogether.

They have completely ruined the game.
Completely.
Having already accepted the fact that there is no feasible way to earn any real gold without the microtransactions, besides spending ungodly amounts of time farming, and at the same time being moderately thrilled with the living stories, I just cannot BELIEVE why they would spit in the many faces of the people who play the game.

There was, without a shadow of a doubt, an obvious plethora of alternative methods that could have been used to (key words here;) SUBTLY but EFFECTIVELY change the leveling of lower leveled characters without slamming everybody else.
The fact that the main story was spread out made it easier and more fun, also you actually had something to look forward to and to keep you motivated while grinding mobs in Lornar’s Pass.

But no.

Now instead, you have to sit around and mash keys until your fingers bleed just to play the one part of the game that keeps you wanting to level up.
Why would they punch themselves in the balls like this?
I now have 7 levels left on one of my alts before I can access the next “chapter” which, for some reason (still not clear to me) unlocks at level 70. What would separate that from me just grinding Grawl trappers until I reach 80?

In this aspect, the patch seemed a whole lot more like stepping through some kind of wormhole and landing in some butt (no profanity…) backwards bizarro world where patches actually drastically worsen the quality of the actual game.

Who does this actually appeal to?

Thank you, Arenanet, for probably ignoring this altogether.
Cheers

You’re playing the game wrong. You’re not supposed to be grinding for xp.

This IS insulting.

What next?
“Many of our players have said that so-called ‘armor’ is too confusing, so we made some changes to help clarify their use! Until you reach 2500 AP, characters can now only fight in their undergarments!”
“Our testing has found that the idea of ‘skills’ is difficult for many players. As such, we now only unlock skills after reaching level 80! All prior combat will be done automatically! Just click and the computer will do it for you so you don’t feel overwhelmed!”
“Use of the waypoint system was confusing, so now we unlock it at level 40 when you get to Lions Arch the first time! But first, you must visit with Evon Gnashblade in-game and give him a tribute of your own blood, your first born child, and 1000 gems to unlock!”

Seriously, who do they think is playing this game?

If Anet is going to let this kind of insider trading continue then they should consider locking all sales on the TP until patches go live.

I shouldn’t need to “know someone” in order to get collections done.

Insider traders: get karma converter for ~300g

Not insider traders: now costs >1000g

For those who don’t know, guides to all collections and what you need were posted last night by people who had “special access” to the patch. All the items used for collections have since been bought out and relisted for 100x the price.

Just curious, where are these guides?

Thanks dude/dudette, I was looking at human, but unsure about guardians as they sort of sound like they are the tanks, Not really my play style but I’ll give it a go for a few levels see how I like the skill sets.

I recommended Guardian because they are button-smashing easy to play. If you want something squishier try Elementalist. They can do lots of damage, defense, and healing depending on your attunement.

I always thought Anet would add something like that in LA, there was a little “arena” that would have been perfect for it. Almost polymock style, but would be 1 on 1 combat, u pick your mini, become that mini in the arena, and fight with the mini’s skillset.

But that’s exactly like Polymock.

Idea: Minis' Mini Fight

narwhalsbend.7059

ok, not sure if this has been proposed before, so here we go

To start with, I was a massive fan of brawls in GW1, and the closes to a “brawl” you can get is by morphing into another mobs and getting a king tittle, quite fun during hollowing and such. I used to love (as a ranger) just matching pets vs other ranger and bet on who was going to win.

however, what if, we took this to the next level.

Since mini pets are getting a update on how they are being handle, what if we could set Minis to fight each other, just for the fun of it, like, i would love to see Rytlock bashing up a quite and fluffy Quaggan (D: somewhere a quaggan just cried).

heck, you could even set up a gambling ring/pit fight to match up pets xD

those are my 2 cents, welcome to expand on the idea.

So, like Polymock?

Wow..i’m now still in pre-searing Ascalon and trying to do all the quests there.

Is there a faster way to move around? Running feels so slow and theres no mounts, no waypoints. Yes yes, i know we can fast travel to selected cities if unlocked, but does it get faster in later game? Or are we supposed to just jog all over the place?

Some professions have speed boost skills. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Speed_boost

In short, yes you are supposed to run around. Most zones are smaller than GW2 so you won’t be running too much until you reach another zone and there are outposts all over the place – five in pre-searing Ascalon alone.

Do try to take your time in pre-searing. It’s a lovely place.

Tips/Tricks for GW1 play with GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: narwhalsbend.7059

narwhalsbend.7059

If you’re only interested in the armor sets (6 points), it won’t take you long. Just play through one of the campaigns, dedicate a Ranger pet, and you’re basically done. If you seek to get to 25-30 points, you will have to dedicate a lot of time to get there.

1. Start with Nightfall, as it’s the most newbie-friendly campaign out there.
2. Once you hit level 10 and get a bunch of heroes, start doing Eye of the North quests until you get more heroes (you get 3 right off the bat).
3. Once you got them, go back to Nightfall.
4. Voila, you have a party full of heroes. It will make your life much easier.

If you actually care about the story and experience you will get from the game instead of the paltry HoM rewards, I suggest you DO NOT do this. Start with Prophecies instead.

Please make Karma/Dun items salvagable.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: narwhalsbend.7059

My understanding is that Arena.net doesn’t want karma to be something you can essentially “trade” for gold, hence why items you get for karma can’t be salvaged.

It’s the same reason why gear you buy with Badges of Honor can’t be salvaged.

I find it funny that they are so virtuous with making it so you can’t salvage karma items so as to not allow karma to be turned into gold, then they turn around and tell you to buy gems with real money to get more gold every time you open the trading post.

Plus, I really don’t know why people say they feel underpowered underwater. I find enemies so much easier to fight underwater, to the point where I will sometimes deliberately lure enemies into the water so I can kill them more easily.

Most interesting, i’ve bought the trilogy + EotN.
Since everyone i know says GW2 story sucked compared to GW1.

Starting an elementalist. Anyone knows whats a good 2nd profession to pick?
I’ll be primarily playing Solo and considering the below:

1) Monk (For healing abilities i guess?)
2) Ranger (To get a pet to tank while i nuke at a safe distance?)
3) Mesmer (To go all out glass cannon and nuke’em b4 they get close?)

Which of the 3 above would be most useful for soloing?
Thanks in advance.

First off, you will NEVER be doing anything solo once you get out of pre-searing, so get that out of your mind now. You are not responsible for healing yourself, so don’t feel like you need to.

You can take monk if you would like. This would be good if you would like to heal or protect yourself, or if you’re facing a large amount of undead.

It’s generally not a good use of a skill to take a pet as a secondary, but feel free to do what you want. You only get 8 skills, so use them well.

Mesmers in GW1 are not at all like mesmers in GW2. These mesmers use interrupts, denial, and punishment. There is not much raw power. Elementalist are the nukes.

That being said, there are ways that each profession can be useful as a seondary. For example, you could use the Necromancer skill “Weaken Armor” to inflict the “Cracked Armor” condition, then use your elementalist nuke skills. You could use the Mesmer skill “Arcane Echo” to cast a high-powered Ele skill, then cast for the second time while it is reloading.

Your secondary profession is all about complementing your primary profession. If you would like, you can browse the wiki to see a list of skills and get an idea what would work for you.

As an extremely mmorpg lover and a rpg long time player, i absolutely recommend you buy this pack and play it.

Not to fill the HoM, as it will take you a bit of time and effort, but to enjoy the depth that this game lore has to offer.

I recommend you play the nightfall campaign first and move then to the eye of the north campaign so you can unlock heroes to help you crack the content.

You can read all about them here

And get ready for some jaw breaking scenarios from a 2005 game and a awe rendering soundtrack by jeremy soule.

I don’t get the joke in the image. Is it because of the narrow minded “must heal entire party” mentality or that repeatedly casting Heal Party will eat up your energy faster than an elementalist?

It was cheaper by $5 just to get the Trilogy and EotN than all three expansions separately. I suppose I could have just bought EotN for the HoM stuff only, but I actually do want to see what all I missed over the years.

Look at the bottom. If you already knew your account information you don’t have to buy another key.

How long has it been since you played? Were you around for the GW:B stuff?

I know I didn’t need to buy another key for the base game (heck, I still have the CD, patching would have been quick since I have a 1MB line), but I didn’t have Nightfall, Factions, or EotN; so if I just reinstalled the game from disk (or downloaded from the site) and bought the expansions separately, that would’ve been $30 compared to getting Trilogy and EotN for $25.

And, uh, I think it was more than nine years ago since I played? I didn’t even receive my first birthday present yet before I stopped playing. On the bright side I apparently have an entire guild hall to myself now.

Well, whatever works. You should start working on that GW:B content now (assuming you finished everything else) and have fun running around your empty guild hall!
