Hidden Arcana was amazing. To begin with, the map was beautiful and really felt alive. That poor sylvari that had to get the item manifests ran around the corner and cried! The library was full of GW1 lore, which is great, and Glint’s Lair really captured the spirit of the GW1 mission while still changing it up in an enjoyable way. Overall, this one step is the highlight of the story so far.
they remind me of http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Grentch i miss them
I miss them too. Christmas is GW2 is just not as fun as it was in GW.
I really want the “Holiday Blues” skill back.
I know the technology doesn’t exist, but the best way would be to just have a separate map for pre- and post-(event).
For example, after WoC in GW1, you could talk to an NPC in Kaineng and your maps would change between Afflicted and MoP mobs. You could do the same thing in GW2. You talk to an NPC to choose between pre-destruction or post-destruction LA and it puts you in the correct map. Then you can always go back to get it changed to the other map.
I will personally throw the next person to say “mounts” into Abaddon’s Mouth.
Wow you’re right after watching the video. I never saw it when I went into the instance though…
In another thread someone else said it was a crystal desert teleporter.
I didn’t see it when I first entered the instance.
Welcome to Guild Wars 2.
The first thing you must do is forget all your WoW terminology.
A “necromancer” is a “profession”, not a “class”.
What you play as is a “character”, not a “toon”.
Also, there are no quests. Explore the world and have a good time leveling. Don’t rush it.
I spent a good long time reading all the books in there. I was pleased to know that the Ascalon Census was still in the same condition from when I last picked it up 250 years ago.
My first suggestion is to read the page on the GW and GW2 wiki. They have some nice quotes there.
A good way to learn the lore of a profession is through their skills. A major part of the ranger is their beastmastery. This isn’t very prominent in GW2, but in GW1 I LOVED playing beastmaster. Also notice skill such as traps, preparations, and nature spirits. In essence, Rangers are all about nature. As such, they are often aligned with Melandru. In pre-searing Ascalon, the first pet you would tame was a Melandru’s Stalker.
I liked it. It’s like a GW1 map.
I really appreciate these small touches for GW1 players.
For me it was VERY nostalgic.
I will say a rather big thanks to the teams that went to all this trouble, to give the original Glint’s Lair the nod that it got. Everything was faithfully reproduced as much as it could be into this instance… the enemies themselves (ok they’re modelled on icebrood, but yeah) and even using mechanics similar to the Scarlet battle with colour-coded protection auras, etc.), the music and the ambience of the instance… wow, just wow.
I even went through the entire library for an even bigger dose of nostalgia. One of the best hours I’ve spent in this game. The way they’ve FINALLY stayed true to recollections of lore, and even at the end, furthering that lore to the current instance (Tyria realtime) gets a big tip of the hat from me.
Thanks to those who made that instance worthy of visiting, especially to GW1 veterans who really appreciate the harking back to what made that game great. I got plenty of screenies to add to my collection of desktop wallpaper shuffle as well.
Glint’s Lair was by far the best part of the release for GW1 players. It’s also nice to know my hard work in getting that Ascalonian Census wasn’t in vain.
I was very impressed by the Glint’s Lair portion of this release. It really captured the aura of the GW1 mission despite the changed profession mechanics. The only thing I really missed was the sparkly cotton candy all over the ground.
No connection whatsoever.
The prequel is better.
My first inclination would be to kill all other races introduced in EotN and go back to being human-focused. However, I would quickly miss my Sylvari.
So I would say wipe the norn and asura from existence, make Charr non-playable, keep humans and Sylvari, and add Largos.
As I did in the thread in the Lore section, my post was to get people thinking a little deeper than just Abaddon, as in location, perhaps, meaning, etc. It’s quite possible, say 99% that it is Abaddon’s statue…in a forgotten temple in the middle of the Maguuma Jungle, hidden for centuries.
i think your on the right track
I personally think this is a temple to abaddon built by the mursaat ( you know that race that was particularly gifted with MAGIC, the thing abaddon released into the world)
so i think we are going to visit a city of mursaat
as well as that the temple surrounding the statue looks either maintained or at least untouched
so potentially its a temple built out of phase by the mursaat and we get to see this glorius city of the mursaator perhaps maybe a temple built to the god of magic where a bloodstone is kept/once was kept/once was used/once was found
They’re HUMAN gods.
Abbadon is gone. Permanantly.
The six left the world, but they are not dead.
Dhuum is bound, but he is not dead.
Abbadon is more than dead. He ceased to exist and was taken over by Kormir.
I’m surprised Zommoros doesn’t know. If he was around long enough to know about the Karka, he’s certainly been around through more than one Elder Dragon rising.
If Djinn were even around at that time, they wouldn’t be on Tyria. Djinn are only native to Elona.
“stories with roots deep in the very heart of Guild Wars lore”
AKA
“we changed everything you remember and loved from Guild Wars so that its now all about elder dragons and nothing else”
Sounds decent. I would go a step further and even create different profiles or actual build tabs on the top with different gear and everything ready.
You could have all your weapons, armour, utilities and traits all saved as “Build 2” on the top of your equipment page and would be ready without the need to drop everything back and forth from your bank like a nut case re-organizing things over and over. You could even rename the build tab if you’d like. Simple 8 character limit names at least.
Heck even Anet could profit from this by allowing one extra build tab by adding expansion slots for up to four or five in the gem store at 400 gems each. That way I could have a zerker PvE build, PvP build, WvW build and whatever other custom one’s I want.
Don’t give any ideas to make gems to Anet. We had build templates in GW1 and they should have been included in GW2 from release.
I think drax’s point was not “this is something only Jennah can do” but rather “if she can paralyze a mass field of soldiers, she likely has the ability to kill someone too.”
And given that the novel says that said allies she had forgot to breath while paralyzed, that’s very true. If she held the illusion long enough, they would have suffocated.
Though trying to compare Imagined Burden – a single target movement-slowing skill – to what Jennah did (paralyze a field of soldiers, convince hive-mind branded that said paralyzed soldiers were also branded, and create an illusion convincing enough for said branded to think the illusion was real) is very foolhardy. The two are ballparks apart – it’d be like comparing Animate Bone Minions to Vizier Khilbron’s ability to control an entire army of undead.
Ahh I see, he was judging her power by scale, not skill.
No they’re still all kitten.
But Gaile isn’t the “manager of Anet”.
Yeah, everyone that plays a “meta” build is a scumbag.
Besides, PU is hardly worthwhile in any regard. You can just ignore it and run away none the worse.
There were skills like this in GW1. See: Calculated Risk, Reckless Haste.
I personally think we need MORE denial. I really miss GW1 interrupt mesmers and my SS N/Me.
Does your character plan on being a Tengu anytime soon? If not, then you will never see it.
It’s possibly worth noting here that Jennah’s illusion of turning her allies into stone was convincing enough that they believed it enough to be actually immobilised. So it’s quite likely that she can craft illusions that can kill.
Creating illusions that affect others or yourself have been a cornerstone of mesmers since GW1. A skill like “Imagined Burden” made the foe moves 50% slower. If everyday mesmers could do it 250 years ago, I don’t think it shows anything about the power of Jennah.
The metrics indicated that new players found a linear and logical storyline too complicated, so they mixed up the order of all the story missions to be nonsensical so as to better serve the DROVES of new players that buy the game every second.
Completely unnecessary and will ruin the atmosphere of the game even faster. Please do not do this.
For the love of Quaggans Anet, why give us such a cool thing as a flying carpet and not give us options with it?
1: Get on and ride.
2: Give a lift to a player. Also nice for couples who play together. Also for saving lives on race track obstacle course.
3: Glide down. No dying from jumping off cliff no matter how high, you simply glide down. For destroyed bridges on race track.
4: Fly over water. Can also be part of a race track.
5: Wind gust. Same speed as running but with the carpet.
Even at 500 Gems I would have bought one and it would be a blast.Other ideas “Carpet Racing”
6: healing for burns and such.
7: Jumping. For obstacle courses.
8: Fire extinguisher. That’s right some sections have fire hazards.
9: Joust with a lance. In case of enemies on flying carpets. Maybe for PVP joust.
10: Yes even an elite spell for those dynamic events only done with a carpet in mind. And please Anet don’t say who gives a Skritt.
P.S: I heard another player whining he couldn’t get his pet cat on his broom.
I came into this thread hoping someone else absolutely hates these stupid gem store items.
Everyone always asks for something like this. I myself have 60+ gold worth of gems on my old armor that I can’t take off.
I hate that one ranger can kill me with one use of “Rapid Fire”.
Different damage types really made some parts of GW1 more interesting.
Undead took DOUBLE damage from Holy damage, and Shadow damage ignored armor and character level.
Now, I agree that it wasn’t always a priory for most people. Usually it only came into play in certain situations, like taking Winter to kill titans, or bringing a party of smiters in Shards of Orr.
Why not just move the screenshots into a new folder for storage?
I seem to recall that many of the skies had a darker part around the top.
Also, why would Abbadon want a statue of some random blind woman in his throne room instead of a statue of himself?
had good voice acting
He shouldn’t have any voice acting at all. GW1 Djinn weren’t “rub a lamp and Robin Williams pops out” genies, they were elemental protectors that, if I recall correctly, DO NOT talk, let alone with the voice of a game show host.
Boy, I’m rather glad this was cut.
Yeah, that was pretty awful and would get annoying fast.
Though there’s no reason to believe Kuunavang or the Saltspray Dragons to be at all related to the DSD.
And the reason for making Glint a dragon champion is far better than “just because”. They wanted a crystal Elder Dragon and look, a crystal dragon existed already.
Exactly. There was no reason for Glint to be related to Krakky at all either aside from “crystal dragon”. Using Anet’s logic here you could say the Saltspray are related to Bubbles because “sea dragon”. My point is that they shouldn’t rewrite the story of every dragon that already existed in-game to make everything about the “elder dragons”.
Just to throw this in there, the bone dragons of Tyria were not at all related to the Elder Dragons, and the Saltspray Dragons of Cantha were not either.
Did Anet ever Confirm this?
There were no such thing as “Elder Dragons” in GW1. When they decided to make GW2 they released an expansion that just said “Oh, well there’s Elder Dragons now, okay guys?”
When GW2 came out, they were also like “Well Glint is the champion of an Elder Dragon just because, alright?”
I really wouldn’t be surprised if they say something like “Well Kuunavang was really Bubbles’ champion! Ooh!!!”
Reptilian race more like.
Krait are possible, so are Forgotten,
but as Krait are following their cult like mouth to mouth spread unwritten religion of self-importance and genocide and Forgotten have just suddenly disappeared and not heard of for over 200 years, both have extremely slim chances…As for Dragonic race, impossible with GW2 setup, (Glint was a good dragon, but it took alot of power from the Forgotten to release her from Kralkatorrik), othervise any other Dragon are always part of the Elder Dragons.
So far, all Dragons are huge, Elder and Champions that is.Only champions which were simply corrupted member of other races, were about same size as player characters, tho slightly larger is more common.
This is not a good setup either, for “draconic” race, since there’s nothing draconic, other than the physical changes caused by the dragon’s corruptive power, rest is just same as any other playable race.Unless ANet adds new species/race into GW2 which are draconic, but I highly doubt it, since every draconic species in Tyria are all part of the Elder Dragons…
Just to throw this in there, the bone dragons of Tyria were not at all related to the Elder Dragons, and the Saltspray Dragons of Cantha were not either.
The metrics indicated that the sounds beasts make when they die are too scary for new players, so they removed them and plan to add the “Quip” sounds on NPC death (soon to be “NPC reverse birthday celebration”) for the future.
Necromancer – new resource: Corpses – The necromancer now uses corpses instead of life force to power skills. Corpses can be harvested from the battlefield from fallen foes. A max of 10 corpses can be carried in the inventory at once, and each uses its own slot. During deathshroud the necromancer munches corpses to prolong the effect, with each corpse giving an extra 10 seconds of death shroud. Minion summoning skills require a corpse each.
B-But that’s very similar to how Necromancers worked in GW1 and it worked so well…
Here are my updates.
Gathering
- Increased the amount of gathering nodes, especially the T6 ones
- Gathering nodes of all levels can be found in every single map
- There is only one material of gathering tool left per type (sickle, axe and pick)
- There is no level requirement for those tools
Dungeons
- Heroes were added to assist you in dungeons. Now you can finish the dungeon by yourself.
- The amount of tokens required for armor and weapons is decreased, so that every run should give you at least one item.
- Dungeon tokens can be used to buy precursors as well.
Loot and crafting
- Fine materials now always is an extra drop and the drop rate has been increased. The same goes for rare materials.
- Salvaging armor or weapons will return all materials that were required to make it.
- The mystic forge recipes have been tweaked so that the change for an upgrade has been increased dramatically.
- All time constraints have been removed from crafting ascended items.
- All time constraints have been removed from charging crystals.
- Soulbound and accountbound have been removed.
This thread is about things that would RUIN GW2, not make it better.
What we really need are instanced versions of the world. I know you don’t have the same set-up as GW1, but what we need, they have there right now.
For instance: In Cantha, a new player will face many afflicted in Kaineng. Once they start WoC, the afflicted change to Ministry of Purity. Just by going to an NPC in town and clicking, you can change the zones between the two time periods at will.
We NEED this in GW2. This way, we can have one version of Orr for new players that are killing Zhaitan, and another version of Orr that is post-cleansing. I don’t know any of the technical aspects of the game is run, but would it be possible to have another server that checks whether you are doing PS or LS and put you in the right server for that map?
While I think the general idea is interesting, your specific examples are far too jarring considering how serious the game takes itself.
For all the fantasy in it, there’s a lot of realism too. And having an Asura pull a table out of nowhere and hoist someone on top of it to electrocute them? Seems… very silly. Bad silly. :-/
Have you seen some of those finishers? They’ve already blown past any sort of class and are just big, loud, and tacky.
Honestly for THAT amount of work, another otherwise unobtainable Legendary would be cool.
Of course, it’d be another Greatsword.
I think you overestimate Anet there. It’ll be another unwanted backpiece.
Use umpteen man hours brainstorming, designing, redesigning, programming code for……..new skins for vendor trash like spikes and porous bones. Exactly what the community was asking for, better looking trash. Get away from the doors while the new players rush in.
Hey, if you didn’t have those new colorful icons, you would never tell if it was a Glob of Globby Goo, Glob of Globby Goop, or a Glob of Globby Gloop!

This is my main character named Virginia May. She is a noble of Ascalonian ancestry and the descendant of the little-known child of Prince Rurik and Lady Althea. As a noble, she is able to bathe frequently and would normally smell pleasant, if it were not for the antique Fellblade which radiates a deathly cold mist smelling of darkness and fear.
1. Chunky and creamy are both good, though she enjoys Omnomberry Jam better though.
2. 300 silver split into 20 silver increments.
3. While she normally eats mostly Ascalonian noble foods, she will occasionally eat the plebeian Krytan foods, with only the best ingredients.
4. She does not like dogs very much, and is always followed instead by her cute and adorable orange tabby cat (though he might be getting a little fat!).
5. As a noble, she has been trained by the best instructors in Kryta and Ebonhawke, yet she prefers nothing more than reading the old tomes found on the shelves of the Durmand Priory.
