I put expensive runes on temple armor.
I might consider buying one if they weren’t so ridiculously flashy. Can we just have a normal look and animation?
I very much doubt that … Sylvari players are trees.
They’re on to me.
Not sure if mentioned in this thread…sorry if it has…
How about marriage to an NPC only? You could “marry” an NPC that has specific talents (a la Skyrim). One type of NPC could provide resources (ore, etc.). Another could be a master chef and provide food (perhaps if you supplied them with the mats?). Another could be an armorsmith or any other crafting specialty – bring them the mats, and they can craft you an item. I don’t know…just spitballing here.
Now, that wouldn’t be too difficult to maintain. Not like two players marrying.
Let’s get Guild Halls first.
I would like a pre-searing fractal. Pre-searing was beautiful and so much fun.
“Ascalon Academy”
Start off in Ascalon City, cross the long bridge, then get into a PvP battle with some old henchmen in the arena. Then, meet up with Rurik and battle through the grawl to reach Vatlaaw Doomtooth.
“North of the Wall”
Leave from Ascalon City, meet up with Rurik and Althea by her stage, work as a team to open the gate, then journey through the oakhearts and charr to Piken Square, then off toward the Searing Cauldron.
“Ashford Catacombs”
There was so much interesting stuff in the catacombs, like the room with the poisonous water, the large candle lit areas, the great hall with the large statue of grenth, and all the gargoyles.
“Barradin Estate”
I’d imagine something involving stopping the bandit firestarters and putting out their fires, dealing with aloes.
“Annihilator” and “Annihilator 2: Searing Day”
Fractals are in the future too right? The player characters are sent forward/back in time to meet with Corporal Bane where they must leave the safety of the KT29-Moahawk to protect Sarah/Gwen!

I love that Guild Wars 2 is heavily female focused. I love that it has two, YES TWO!!, queer couples – one current and one past. I like the fact that it’s the women that are the main, relevant drivers of the plot.
Pretty much every game these days, and in the past, was mostly male characters, and if it had female characters, they were for the sexual gratification of the male characters in-game, or the gamers playing them – because the male demographic was/is what’s catered to.
No, Arena Net – DON’T CHANGE A THING! If anything, add more female characters.
One game out of, well, every game ever made, has a preponderance of female characters and emphasis on them, and cries of MISANDRY rain from the heavens. Don’t make me laugh.
Where were all you people when game after game after game with generic white male rubbish being pumped out, with no or appallingly portrayed female characters? Yeah, nowhere.
How can you call for equality when it’s already so unequally slanted towards males in gaming? And don’t tell me it isn’t. If anything Guild Wars 2, with it’s heavy female focus, is making things equal – equal against all the other games out there. Keep up the good job ANet!
While I completely disagree with your feminism-blinded assessment on the role of women in video games, your casual racism, and your desire to make men irrelevant in Tyria, I’d like to point out that there are at least four homosexual couples that I can think of off the top of my head (if you can count Sylvari that is).

According to lore, male rangers must become paragons after marriage.
Therefore, marriage will never be in-game as there are no more paragons in Tyria.
If you want this type of thing go play a different MMO. It’s bad enough that Norn, Asura, and Kodan exist at all; we don’t need anime catgirls to de-class the game any further.
Question to every player:
Do you want this changes to be happen or not ? What is your thoughts about this system in future.
I prefer the BL key if I’m honest. I have more than 3 level 80s and this reward gives me a reason to play the story arc more than 3 times (which I’ve done).
Having the option to choose isn’t a bad idea, but honestly I still think I’d pick the key each time anyway. I’m not one of those players that must have the luminescent armour straight away though, so I’m just accumulating the required bandit crests at my own pace. I don’t have all the fangs anyway so why rush to get all the crests.
Some people (like myself) don’t want the luminescent armor. I just want the three sets of carapace armor, which I now can’t get unless I partake in days long grindfest.
are those corrupted aloes?
So we’re gonna be facing off against a swarm of pine nuts that not only knock you down but AoE heal each other? Yeah I’ll play that let’s do this.
I would like to see the original plant creatures make a return (namely the aloe and reed stalkers) but they aren’t in the game in uncorrupted form so it’s not likely they would be in corrupted form.
They should be given out like they were in Hidden Arcana. I don’t have the time nor the desire to grind for crests.
I don’t think they can do “mind control” like what that typically implies, but they can create illusions to attempt to coerce a person to do what they want. For example, “Imagined Burden”, a GW1 skill, makes the target slower because they are imaged to be burdened by the mesmer. The mesmer is not “commanding” them to walk slower, just giving the illusion that they are burdened, making them walk slower because of said burden.
I don’t think misandry means what you think it means.
You also seem to completely ignore the fact that during the Personal story most strong characters were male. There are also plenty of strong male characters in the game overall.
Most? I’d say it was fairly even, maybe a little more males. I don’t think there are any characters that aren’t strong by the way, because everyone we meet are soldiers.
The biconics aren’t even trying to be fair though. Not only do females out-number males 4 to 1, the one male in the group is a big dumb baby who’s only special because he’s Eir’s son.
As far as I know, the armor classes were like this from the start so they didn’t have to create armors for each profession like they did in GW1.
I think the word you are looking for in this sense, however, is “professions”.
So it’s agreed then? We rally in Ebonhawke and kick the fuzzballs back across the Blazeridge Mountains and out of Ascalon!
It’s late and I’m sleepy so I’ll keep it short:
Watched last PoI and I must say that I got (some of) the hints about the atmosphere in this story instance. I loved the sense music brought, especially if I wasn’t looking at the minimap at the time. You guys should’ve went with darker setting as you initially wanted. The lights were a nice touch but they’d be more appreciated if the ambient was initially darker (also improves overall atmosphere).
Loved this experiment, I’d love to play something similar if you guys ever find time/space to implement it.
I didn’t watch the PoI, but it would have been better had the area been absolutely dark and the exact locations of the missing NPCs pinged on your minimap.
Seven 80’s.
One completion.
hmh.. is there anyone else who’d like some more races to choose of?
i’d like some new ones, it’d be refreshing and more fun to have some more to choose! variation
No, I’d like less. Like forget that Norn and Asura ever existed and make only humans playable with charr the bad guys like GW1.
Your post here is confusing a bunch of lore. First off, the Jade Brotherhood was a gang in Cantha. I have no idea why you’re bringing them up now. Also, who is Brill?
.Brill is Glint in certain languages for the game.
I figured as much.
Let’s say the jade brotherhood knew Brill had eggs to take care of. We know there was a portal in cristal desert leading to Elona, and I’ve read somewhere that the portal doesn’t lead to Elona anymore (but it didn’t say the portal doesn’t work). Could the brotherhood had recalibrated the portal in cristal desert to a portal next to the bloodstone in Magguma Jungle to evade the eggs in case of emergency ?
Your post here is confusing a bunch of lore. First off, the Jade Brotherhood was a gang in Cantha. I have no idea why you’re bringing them up now. Also, who is Brill?
Another thing to note is that the teleporters in the crystal desert were never long range. They were always just across a gorge or cliff. Even the one from the crystal desert to the desolation was not that far of a stretch lore-wise, as you could still see the Lonely Vigil from Crystal Overlook in Elona.
This is awful. I was actually looking forward to collecting all the armor pieces, but this “grind for the armor” is unbelievable. Please re-think this Anet.
I do not support this, and instead ask that we get more underwater play.
Trait unlocking before used to be slightly broken in that you had to pay for a book (which really wasn’t that expensive). Now they are just completely broken (have to pay huge amounts of gold plus skill points to unlock, or do pointless things to unlock) and players have no desire to do this. Because of this, many alt go without traits and therefore go unplayed.
In WvW, I just Moa them then spike them down with my greatsword. They’re so used to relying on stealth that being Moa’d messes them up bad.
I believe Rytlock met the gods just like Kormir did. They took his eyesight and became a “prophet”.
Kormir never met any god besides Abaddon. It wasn’t even Abaddon who blinded her either.
Why is this 14030343th thread about mounts not closed or merged yet?
The suggestion has been made and discussed so many times it’s bordering on ridiculous at this point. Anet has heard your suggestions and will either do it or not at this point. Stop bringing it up!
I agree, I think Anet should just condense these threads all into a “never gonna happen” thread like they did with Cantha.
Dry Top was “sandy-duned desert” because, lorewise, of continuous fierce winds. Such winds would erode stone down into sand, and blow the sand away. With Dry Top being full of canyons, however, as it was in GW1, that sand has little to go – which results in it just shifting around in Dry Top itself via the wind that becomes sandstorms.
It was more Crystal Desert-like than it really needed to be, but still works storywise. They could have easily gone without the sand and sandstorms though, obviously.
It’s only been 250 years. I’m no geologist, but that’s not enough time for all that sand to form.
Clarification: This is not a complaint. I am loving the LS right now and discovering this story with Glint etc.
But, it makes me wonder. When I first started playing GW2 (and after reading the novels) I figured that once we approached the Crystal Desert and Kralk that we would be learning all that we are learning now: the future of Glint and her offspring, seeing her lair, etc etc.
Instead, as we go west, the jungle area is more desert-like and we are getting all this information about Glint as we pursue Mordy. I can understand the connection and I have seen other threads talk about the possible interest of Mordy in the egg, but after that is all said and done……where is the story going to go when (and if) we go to the Crystal Desert? I guess maybe the “restoration” of Destiny’s Edge, maybe a “snaff flashback” (Kralk uses him as an apparition or something).
I just don’t see Anet lumping 2 dragons together in one story as the dragons are far too valuable as a story mechanic to rush (once we kill all the dragons, then what? That is, are we even supposed to kill them?)
It just got me wondering, that’s all. While I have enjoyed the recent episodes, I feel like I am playing more in the Crystal Desert than I am in the Maguuma jungle and I was curious to hear from the lore community on what story the desert could bring us. And of course, I am jumping the gun a bit here.
Side note/question: With the Breachmaker incident, is that considered the “official awakening” of Mordremoth? Or was he already awake and now he is just making a move? I considered it the awakening, but I wanted to double check.
I agree. “Dry Top” was far more “Crystal Desert”-ey than it should been. The Maguuma is a dry wasteland, not sandy-duned desert! Having this type of thing makes me think that maybe they won’t go back to CD, which is a big mistake.
The one thing about your post that I would like to criticize is the assumption that “there is no story if there are no dragons”. There WERE NO DRAGONS before and they did just fine making exciting and entertaining stories! Forget the dragons, I want another antagonist like the Undead Lich or Warmarshal Varesh!
@narwhalsbend: On the other side of the equation, though, Headmaster Kaa in Shing Jea is male, and of the mesmer instructors, one is male and the other female (and the male has a larger role in the story and more character overall). The Luxon mesmer hench is female, but the Kurzick one is male. Overall, Cantha and Elona both seem to regard it as more gender-neutral (although as has been commented before, the default Jade Brotherhood Mesmer model is female, as is the Luxon Mesmer, but the Kurzick Mesmer is male).
I wasn’t implying that mesmers were presented as female in Prophecies. The only mesmer henchman in Prophecies is Dunham and there is a very good balance overall.
To me, it’s just that Lady Althea and Gwen stand out the most.
kitten , we’re getting so much Chinese aka Cantha content and stuff like that AND STILL NOTHING NEW OF CANTHA MAP!
Anndd, ohhh, Rytlock looks really interesting!I do hope Ascalonian Ghosts will have a bigger story.
Ritualist professions, please. And while you’re adding professions, add Paragons too!
<3
they can’t add paragons, they’re considered to be part of the guardian profession now, the monk and paragon training methods merged together and produced the guardian.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way! There’s no reason Paragons couldn’t make a comeback, perhaps with a focus on anthems and songs — ooh! Advanced arcane application of acoustics, using their shields as amplifiers! It could work! Ahem. GW2 paragons might not be as versatile as the Guild Wars version — but then, what other profession is? See, especially, GW2 mesmers and rangers.
With them could come dry land spears, which other professions could use as well, of course, but the paragon would (surely) have the coolest dry land spear skills of all and wouldn’t be overshadowed at all by warriors.
Anyway I am SO ready for something new — even if it’s something old!
PS: dervishes, rits and monks, oh my!
Other than Assassins, Factions and Nightfall professions were VERY cultural and have been partially absorbed by other professions.
I just got my first one of those yesterday doing vanquisher.
The Forgotten Fan from The Falls would also be nice too, along with a few of the other GW1 skins that did not port over.
That said, the most likely source will be the gem store, as a standalone or as a created-set.
I love the fans. After WoC, I now have my mesmer wielding two fans!
The game has so much complex stuff technologically, I don’t see why mounts aren’t in the game. I’m guessing there’s some concern balance-wise in terms of combat? Even if there isn’t I would recommend they be out-of-combat only.
But outside of combat, there should be mounts. Tyria is so cool to explore but it gets really really boring running around at a snail’s pace.
GW2 is not the game that you just came from. There are no mounts and there never will be. Waypoints are already EVERYWHERE and provide no challenge.
I could do without Utopia. What I want is them to finish GW;Beyond.
What happened to Evennia? Show us the founding of Ebonhawke!
What did the lunatic court get up to? What about Palawa Joko?
Seriously, GW:Beyond was AMAZING and only made with a few devs and spare change. How can they make such great content like the War in Kryta and Winds of Change with so little, then push out nothing but stupid gem store items with a full team of devs?
Hello to everyone in the Guild Wars 2 community!
My name is Mark Whittaker. I’m nearly Nineteen years old from the Eastern coast of Canada. Anyways, I’m very new to this community (My first day actually). I’ve purchased this game today after watching and reading some reviews that stated this game as “Legendary” And I figured with no monthly Subscription, why not. Anywho, As I’m waiting for the game to download, I’m looking to get some insight form the current community members, like
1. What should I expect in Guild Wars 2,
2. What should be on the top of my Priority list,
3. Which Race/ Profession combinations are the best (In your own opinions)
4. What should I do as soon as I emerge myself into the vast world?
5. And most of all, what should I do to maximize the fun out of this game?
Of course those are just some ideas of questions that you could answer for me, but really, I’m looking for any tips, or general information that the players could give me to help me prepare for my induction into the Guild Wars 2 community. I’d like to thank you all in advance, and hope to be associated with you all on friendly terms for a lengthy amount of time!-Mark Whittaker
1. Nothing, Don’t come in expecting anything and you’ll come out the better for it.
2. Exploring the world. Don’t rush to level or do the personal story. The world is the real story. Stop to smell the omnomberries and participate in events.
3. There is not “best”, but I recommend human/anything.
4. Explore. See above.
5. Explore. See above.
I don’t understand how people need expensive “gaming” this and that. I’m using a TrackPoint to play this game. If you don’t know what that is, it’s the little dot in the middle of the keyboard on business laptops.
I still think the level is too high. 20 worked well in GW1.
In GW1:
The first mesmer we ever see is Lady Althea, and Vasser is buried all the way in Foible’s Fair.
We get Gwen, an important character, right away as a hero, but Norgu isn’t mandatory. In GW2:
The best known mesmers are Queen Jennah and Countess Anise.
Other than the newly introduced Kasmeer, there just aren’t many other noticeable mesmers.Combine that with the above comments about style, and I think it’s reasonable that the devs and players enjoy making mesmers to be female.
Seems like Mesmer is a feminine profession, indeed. Atleast it shows clearly how nobility looks like, unlike tough players who want to have a big muscle manly man warrior.
Mesmer profession characters are more females than males, I’m sure of that.
Although I do have a male mesmers and female warriors..
I wouldn’t go so far. Vassar was very natural, as were all the male mesmers in GW1. It would be a mistake to say that mesmers are feminine, but I don’t know the right words otherwise. I feel that Norgu made a very good mesmer as well.
EDIT: Just fyi, my main character is a human female noble mesmer, so I certainly understand where this comes from. For me, it might be because of Lady Althea.

What would be awesome….is to have many of the special GW1 weapons start showing up in GW2 as ancient weapons. Maybe through quests or helping NPC explorers search for them. I remember the fun i had getting Kerrsh’s staff.
There are already a few GW1 weapons that came back as exotics. I use a faux Voltaic Spear on my mesmer and a faux Froggy Scepter on my necro for example.
This should have been released with the game.
I would ragequit if they actually rolled with writing this terrible.
Just to be clear, which of these ideas would be terrible to you?
It’s Glint?
It has Glint’s knowledge?
That rainbow, unicorn thing?
Or the egg being special in any way?
That it’s Glint. She’s dead, let her be.
Sure you can! Only 800 gems in the Gem Store!
Next pack features a new weapons type – spears on land! In the next chapter of the living story, Rytlock comes back from the mists, blinded by Abaddon, and will follow you around, bodyblocking you, shouting order, and throwing spears despite being blind!
I would ragequit if they actually rolled with writing this terrible.
It’s hard to compare GW1 dungeons to GW2 dungeons as they used to be somewhat difficult and long in GW1, but this was actually very valid in GW1 (especially for HM).
It was common to wait for what you want. You don’t want six wammos, a ranger, and an ele. When you did get a group composed of what you want, it was also common to be asked to ping your build. You don’t want your monks to be running Echo Mending or your warriors to be running Hamstorm.
Here in GW2, however, the dungeons are much shorter and often easier. Any player with some experience (not even experience in that dungeon) can complete a dungeon. The reason you see these people obsessed with the best possible party they can make is that they want to get the dungeon done as fast as possible and maximize their profit. To counter one of your points about how it might take longer to find the ideal party: perhaps they expect the party to be doing more than one path?
The druids are long gone
Except, we meet them in Guild Wars 1 on several occassions, such as in the quest Wisdom of the Druids, in the missions Bloodstone Fen and Aurora Glade and in the Mamnoon Lagoon area. Furthermore, the quest Blood and Smoke shows that not only we the players know of druids but other humans do as well. So why would it be impossible if some humans tried to follow in their footsteps?
the shining blade is in Kryta with the Queen
I never said anything about the shining blade. Furthermore, there is no telling if all members went to Kryta.
the Ebon Vanguard were all recalled and built Ebonhawke (you can even see their graves in the city, not to mention that EotN is deserted in present time save for ghosts)
Aaron already answered this.
Ember Light Camp was created at the time that the Shining Blade went there with the heroes (the only other settlements were Mursaat fortresses).
Like I said above, this may have been a bit of a stretch. I’m just thinking out loud here.
The only one that is possible is that there are the last few White Mantle hiding out in the jungle.
It is not just possible, it is pretty much confirmed by now.
The druid spirits are just that – spirits. The actual druids themselves were gone even during the GW1 and the spirits did not have “settlements”.
I can’t imagine why Shining Blade would stay in the Maguuma Jungle first while there’s a civil war going on , second when the White Mantle are gone, and third while a dragon turns the place into a desert.
That passage said they left behind a skeleton force. There are currently ghosts in the EotN. Perhaps those stayed behind? Regardless, there are no living humans there and the Eye shows no sign of being kept. Where else would they be staying, if not the Eye?
The lore part seems accurate, but the most recent episode was fairly good in that respect.
Also you talk to Sayeh about Trahearne before he even introduces you.
We see an example of a militia being trained in Claypool, by the Seraph. Is this a standard practice in Kryta? Would we ever see it extend to other parts of Kryta, or even into Divinity’s Reach?
Other than what we see now, we’ve only ever seen Kryta ruled by White Mantle, who kept a strong hold on the nation (strong enough that Lionguard were only allowed in Lions Arch, and were still disliked by the White Mantle). This changed, however, during the War in Kryta, where you could find Shining Blade training krytans at a camp in Talmark Wilderness.
In terms of current time period, there probably are more militias, but it would be strange for Anet to have a militia training all day every day in every town in Kryta.
