This event isn’t interesting enough to keep up permanently, and the vigil keep is lacking. New players shouldn’t have to traverse a lvl 80 war zone to get to blood tide coast.

Is this in addition to the mini Caithe and mini Scarlet, or does this replace them? The latter seems more logical to me (replace) but it’s just not very clear from the patch notes.

Also: are these new minis in the chests already, given that all the other new BLTC items are not available in the store yet?

I got mini Caithe yesterday.

In 25 chests I got a mini Marjory, a mini Mai, and a mini Caithe. So chance o get a rare mini seems high like before.

I opened 25 chests.

The first thing I noticed is that the chests include five of the same bags that drop in the LA event. As the event drops are quite in demand right now, i felt happy about the guaranteed bonus loot which came n addition to the other drops I also got two new minis (and a mini Caithe so she’s still dropping).

On the other hand, I only got one BLTC scrap. Out of 25 chests this is very low. I fear there was a nerf.

I just hope she’s dead, and this terrible story can end.

Instead LA is a explorable zone dedicated to her and Mai Trin can’t shuttup about how great she is over in the mists. Seriously, every time you go taking the big area in the center of the map, mai starts blabbing about scarlet.

Hopefully, Mai Trin leaves the mists and gets it. Hopefully, we don’t have to deal with a permanent zone of scarlet rejects.

The main use for spectral walk is jumping off cliffs.

The other use is that it has 2 stun breaks in one skill.

A skill delay would hurt both of these uses.

Anyways, ranger probably needs the most help, elemental it’s second, but necromancer is third and necromancer will not be as easy to fix.

How to fix ranger:

1. Bows should pierce without the trait. Warrior bows do.
2. No skill (in the game not just ranger) should need more than 2 traits to max out
3. Some new trait or weapon skill condition removal.
4. Some pets should melee cleave

How to fix elementalist.

1. New 30 pt trait to specialize and dramatically lower cool downs in fire, ice, earth, wind. Attune swapper should not be the only viable play style. (this will greatly help the skill cap problem)
2. Fix FGS exploit.
3. Increase damage on auto attacks,

Done. Elementalist and ranger fixt.

How to fix necromancers.

1. Cleaving melee attack
2. Heal in Death shroud
3. Some sort of party support. boons would be nice something like spotter better
4. #Bringbackshade.
5. No skill in the game should take more than 2 traits to max.
6. Finishers on weapon skills, at least one finisher on a death shroud skill.

Even if a guardian doesn’t take shout cleanses, it is trivial for guardian to put down a field and finish for area condition clense of everybody who is stacked.

Burst is from dagger 4 and staff 4.

If you use DS offensively, that’s burst, since life force does not regenerate OOC ( no sustain)

Long cooldown devastating abilities fill out your burst. Wells, signet of spite, corrupt boon…

Ellen Kiel as the hero makes sense.

Every plot moving character in the living story since southsun, all of them women.

New band of heroes, all women except for Rox. Rox has mommy issues: that’s all we know about him.

All of the main villains? Women. Scarlet, Mai Trin, Karka Queen.

The men characters in the story: buffoons like Lord Faren or cowards like Logan. (Both of these characters did brave things and could have been treated better).

Can anet even write credible men characters?

As for Evon. He showed up for one patch, didn’t do anything, and wouldn’t be at all memorable except that his voice actor is awesome. Does he get the lord Faren treatment because you have to be a woman to matter with these writers?

I hope it will be rebuilt after a month.

That way I can forget about scarlet faster.

As for specific reasons:

1. I don’t think they will throw away all the good work they did on Xmas and Halloween

2. New players shouldn’t have to crisscross a lvl80 raid zone (even up leveled) in order to get to leveling zones

3. I don’t think the vigil hub idea works long term unless it is an entirely new map with waypoints etc. The existing vigil keep layout will be camera hell.

4. Lore wise it feels wrong (story missions for protecting LA being one example, GW1 history and the novels being another example).

Flame and Frost dyes, worth investing?

Some of the cash shop dyes are cheap.

11 different versions of cash shop dyes can be had for less than 20 gold right now. Some are even good looking. These prices are far below the cost to buy the gem packs and hope for a unique dye.

In theory they ought to sell for more gold.

I think the problem is: when anet rereleased the dyes twice in the last 4 months they killed the speculator market by destroying perceived rarity. The dyes were always super-expensive gem wize, and it seems anet isn’t going to let you get rich by giving anet money. Eventually, Somebody will probably make money on the Onset, Amenity, Violite, and Fling dyes out there, because they are priced cheap jow and gems keep getting more expensive, but…

I’d personally advise all but the upper rich to avoid investing in gemstore items. Y2 Halloween weapons haven’t budged in price. Dyes have fallen, the newer dyes from the newer dye packs are far cheaper than gems. Minipet collectors got screwed by mini holographic knights and mini Caithes. Anet is bound to hold sales on various items to increase gemstore revenue. Why put yourself in competition with ANET’s gemstore if you don’t have to?

Buy orders for Major Runes

There is a major patch coming where all of the rune sets will be reworked.

Major Runes are for forging Superior Runes, and by cornering the major Rune market now, a speculator could hope to reap the windfall on the new Rune Meta (ie ppl ditch scholar and traveler and go to some other runes).

When it was announced, buy orders went almost all the way up to 5.5s. When people realized that the patch wasn’t coming soon after the announcement, buy orders fell to 3s.

Tl;dr. People think an announced change to runes will make them more valuable.

The marionette requires too many people.

It’s fun, but it requires a full zone to complete.

For this reason, it was dead on medium servers in less than a week (except for prime time).

Permanant boss content needs to be complete able by a smaller (say 30) number of players or it, too, will die.

It’s already dead don’t make it a zombie.

I vote bring it back for an encore at Queens Jubilee, but not forever.

There is no safe spot in the boss 5 marionette attack.

Plus the last phase of the marionette spawns clones with a cleaving whirl AoE attack that an quickly wipe a stacked group that isn’t defensively buffed or offensively debuffing.

This boss isn’t really the right one to complain about stacking. It is not a case of line of sight cheese, but more a case of an unforgiving timer makes the event impossible unless all of the boss 5 adds can be hit with the strongest AoE (cleaving melee).

We almost failed yesterday when one weakness spamming short bow thief refused to stack. When the add eventually spawned him we had to blow our cooldowns for the 1st group, wait and blow the cooldowns on the add. The timer almost ran out. Just from one guy, refusing to stack.

The other 5 bosses in the group are not dungeon stack n pack encounters either.

I would rather it stayed and the developers balanced around going into death shroud and staying in death shroud, instead of what they are currently doing: Balancing around shroud dancing to absorb hits instead of dodging.

But if they are going to balance around shroud dancing (go back to their comments on fury and stability traits for confirmation), then they should actually let the class have the play style they are balancing around.

Worlds will be matched according to which color they are in the current WvW matchup. For example, all green worlds will be on the same team in the Edge of the Mists.

If Red has 10x more players, they will have a few more empty meaningless overflows to fight. I think this balancing system is not fair for all colors.

All 3 colors get the best fights available that way. The extra Red players can go to WvW, and if their arent fights to be had their either…. Then they weren’t going to get flights regardless.

Why so much hate on minions…

because players see minions (and any other kind of pet) as easy mode: the minions do the playing while the player is doing nothing (which is totally not true). The only way to solve this is to allow better response times to minions which would allow better/skillfull play.

Wrong.

ANET (not the players, ANET) sees AI based damage (even AI damage that takes tons of micro) as easy mode.

By this time, ANET has almost a 10 year history of discriminating against AI based damage.

Why are warriors king? No pets.

Warrior true weakness

Warriors should not have any weakness.

They are supposed to be the ultimate class at everything in this game that everybody
uses and loves.

For whatever reason, some people prefer to be weaker and play a class other than Warrior because they want “variety”. But when given the choice between a fresh tomato and a rotten one, the same people always choose the fresh tomato. Double standards.

The sole reason why other classes exist is for you to compare them with the Warrior. If all tomatoes were fresh, we would not know which one to pick, but if all of them are rotten and one of them is fresh, the choice is obvious.

Some people even say that they chose a different profession at the start of the game and decided to stick with it. But if you ask the same people this:
If you bought a tomato and found out it was a rotten one later on, do you follow through and eat it knowing that you will get sick? Or do you go buy another one making sure it is fresh this time?
They always answer that they went to buy a fresh one, but they refuse to re-roll a Warrior.

Please stop trying to rot the only fresh tomato and choose Warrior as your class. That way you can be happy as well.

+1 for anet logic. Everybody complaining about warrior needs to understand that the quoted is how anet sees class balance.

I’m optimistic about this patch.

I’ve been in the wrong side of onesided match ups where the rest of my server just quit. If that happens after this patch, then I can just go to edge and play there instead of main WvW (joining the queued T1 players and players in other situations like me) because edge has multiple shards and allows players of multiple servers to play together.

Since the theme of Queens Jubilee is celebrating the human triumphs overs tough adversaries, why not give the players a second crack at the Marionette in August. A giant killer robot headed towards lions arch would certainly qualify to fit in with the celebration.

The Marionette even is a model of one of the watch work knights employed by Jenna, so it should be feasible for her engineers to pull off. (Although she might not want o remind the public how fail the watch work knights were previously).

Plus the event is fun enough for a second crack. A two week curtain call in August would be appropriate.

Hell, If anet wanted to tweak the lane bosses, then it might even qualify as new content. (Or even just rehashed toxic/molten/aetherblade bosses for a living story send off)

This idea that EVERYBODY needs to be capable of doing all of the available content in the game has been executed, I believe, incorrectly. While everyone should have ACCESS to the game they paid for (no IRL cost-gating for content), and all content should be completable (no 5 second rage timers or something silly :P), there can, and should, exist difficult content that only the well-practiced and prepared teams can overcome. This gives people something to work towards, and truly rewards them for their effort.

OP what server are you on?

I am on the median server, right in the middle of servers. Half of the servers are bigger, half are smaller than us.

At this point, Tequatl and the Wurm (and even the marionette during 80%) of the day are impossible. The reason: not enough players. Yeah, guesting exists, dedicated TTS guilds exists, but these make the problem WORSE. We hardly have enough players to o something, and 25% of the possible population ditches us. (They ditch us because there is no guarantee that enough players will show to make an attempt).

At this point, I don’t even care about the bosses, I am more concerned about what the constant emigration is doing to the community (even less players, dedicated players, community players, and organization than before).

And I am on the median server, half of servers are in even worse shape than we are.

Tl;DR. These mega Zerg events are killing servers that have trouble fielding a mega Zerg, which is over half of all NA servers.

Necro shouldn’t “need” a well to finish a downed player, and wod is not like an kittening heal the amount of health you get back is laughable.

Wells suck in PvP unless you can burn all someone’s stunbreaks and stun them in the well. If they were larger and hit faster even if its for less they would at least do something.

Shouldn’t.

But until necromancers get the ability to stop in death shroud, they are terrible at stomping.

I would guess total completion is about 8% for all servers. I guested on Maguuma yesterday only to find that the event was dead during off hours. Dead meaning nobody. That’s a gold league server too.

If the 6-15 servers are auto fails, how can the total success rate be anywhere decent?

OP is on the right track, but the Marionette is already dead on my server (Borliss Pass) for 80% of the day. The wurm died the second day and Tequatl has been dead forever.

1. Content needs to scale so that groups can make a realistic attempt with 40-50

2. Content needs to have a legit chance of success or some sort of carrot reward on a fail (Wurm fails awarding one champ box or even less are insulting)

3. One shot mechanics need to be minimized (OP said this, but perhaps didn’t realize how many players get one shot by boss 3 or 4 AoE even while loading into a chain)

Scaling the content so that only huge zergs can complete it is killing the Borliss Pass community. We are the median server (half of servers are smaller than us) so I can only imagine that it gets worse the further own you go. There’s no guarantee enough players will show up so

1. the dedicated players will guest away to other servers where they lack 3rd party voice chat information and thus are little better than leeches to the big servers, who take spots from big server players.

2. Borliss Pass main server attempts don’t have the dedicated players and so fail more often and lack for players more often.

The number of players required to beat an event shouldn’t push up against server limits, that’s what’s causing the overflows and waits.

I bring either well of suffering or corruption in pvp. I dump it on a downed player to help finish him off and punish any rezzers. Also some capture points aren’t much bigger than the well.

But well of darkness is awful. If anet balances the cooldowns too long because the well can siphon, give protection, and give a short chill, as well as be ground targeted and shorter cooldowned, then i would prefer anet lower the base cooldown and remove some of the traits so I at least have a non bursty useable skill.

The marionette made me realize something...

Groups fail on the 2nd and 3rd chains.

The second chain, conditions are less than optimal. Necromancer is also weakish because of low dodges. But the event really fails because the mob aggros onto some player who wolnt kite it into the mines.

I’ve been life blasting the third and fourth chains from the edge of the map. These two are mostly tricky because the game has trained us: mob AoE has red circles, and these don’t.

Anyways, while Specteal wall traited with master of terror is godly (and traited with terror and reduced cooldown even more so), the skill overlaps in function with similar skills that elementalist and guardian have. Plus, it is useless in the warden fights (swap it out for signet of un death? A well? )

Are minis a stable investment?

Minis and cash shop dyes are best understood as a way to invest in the price of gems without actually buying the gems for later resale and paying big taxes.

The price of gems rises with gemstore demand and gold inflation so it’s tempting to try and invest in something anet is invested into.

The average gem cost of a rare or exotic mini is a fixed number. When the gold price rises, the gold price of that fixed gold gem conversion out to rise also.

In theory anyways. But also in historical fact, the mini prices usually track gem prices.

You also get a temporary market abnormality bump when minis go off the market for a whil and thus become more “rare.” However, the season one minis have been brought back for gemstore sales, and its safe to assume the will be brought back again, so in the long run the price will regress to the gem price mean. A bunch of people recently lost big on dye speculation when anet brought the dyes back twice in the last 4 months. Don’t be them. Only count on the gem price conversion number.

As for rare discontinued minis, these are great if the mini is popular, and are a good buy and hold candidate. The game doesn’t have a lot of discontinued and never coming back items, so this improves them in my view. However, be aware that minis are not consumed or dedicated (like the ghastly grinning shield weapon skin), and o there are theoretically the same number of mini lord Farens running around as there have always been. (Fluctuations in demand and supply would depend on players who own or want the mini and the rates at which they quit or enter the game).

BUT, mini buyer beware. Changes by anet to how the game works can affect the mini market as well as how well minis track gem prices. The ingame farmable mini risen knights crashed the mini market and lost a bunch of gold for mini investors. Likewise, the mini Caithes and Scarlets, rare minis in Black lion chests at a time when players wanted scraps for Halloween weapons also depressed the mini market, even the season 1 mini market. All it takes is one droppable non exotic mini to forever crash the mini market.

Zealot's Stat Combo Discussion

The implementation of Zealots and Keepers stats is borked.

In order to get ascended you need the exotic inscription recipe, the ascended inscription recipe, and the recipe for the ascended weapon you want. Some of these recipes are still over 20-80 gold.

The main culprit again is the game balancers who tuned the twisted marionette too hard and most 90%+ attempts are failing. The supply of recipes just isn’t entering the TP. They’ll probably skyrocket again as soon as the event ends until a year from now when we can trade something like guild commendations for them.

Unless you want to shell out the 500g for just the recipes for the full set, these new stat combos might as well not exist.

Serious Questions for Dev about warriors.

Dude, Warriors are, like, ANet’s favorite poster child since Guild Wars 1. Whatever they’re nerfing, it isn’t going to be anything gamebreaking. They WANT Warriors to become gods, and slowly, but surely, be trickled into one universal build that can’t die, but kills everything, until every other class except Guardian gets nerfed into Oblivion. Then, once everyone except the soldier classes have been nerfed to hell, everyone shall choose a side: Guardian, or Warrior. Then they will ascend to godhood, and they’ll live among the stars as the new gods of Tyria, since they’ve apparently erased any presence of the gods EXCEPT Blathazar, who has given us the mists to fight. Plot twist: Balthazar is a warrior. WHOA. And so, since ANet can’t nerf Warriors without all the warriors crying and being sad and leaving the game, they will do tiny, subtle nerfs. All to trickle down into one massive build of 30/30/30/30/30 with Legendary Armor and Trinkets with Infused Celestial stats that give 300 of every stat, and when Warriors are gods, they will just let them use whatever weapons they want, and it is balanced.

So it has been written, so it shall be done.

This is exactly what happened in GW1, right? We all saw GvG with only warriors.

Actually that is what happened.

However, GW1 had an engine limitation where using slips rooted the player, this making it possible to kite just about all melee damage (or even all damage with a run boost). Troll Rangers took advantage of this in Random Arena.

OP is wrong wrong wrong

Warrior never gets meaningful nerfs because the metrics say most players play warrior and anet caters to the metrics.

So, stop playing necromancer and the class turns into engineer or elementalist: constantly nerfed because the only time anet notices these classes exist is when a warrior dies to them.

EDIT: The only reason a lot of our issues got dealt with (hundreds of bugs from release that lasted a year) was because of the large vocal community.

I actually think that anet, and the warrior / thief tpvp community would be happy if there were fewer professions with only enough players of the less played classes to fill the change of pace/relieve boredom function. If this is the case, then only the strong survive.

Real issue is that the event should not require an amount of players that bumps up against the player limit. Should you fail because some people just happened to be in the zone doing map completion?

Huge disappointment:

What I Like:

1. I liked exploring Scarlets Lair, a lot of details went into that
2. New Bosses have regular predictable spawn timers. Thanks.
3. Phase 1 of the Marionette Fight, and the travel part of the wurm fight are fun and well tuned.

What I don’t like:

1. Both bosses are terrible. The number of people required for an event should not push up against the zone limit.
2. Didn’t care much for the story instance or the new character. Story of women driving all the events and men being useless and/or cowards is girl power chick lit quality.
3. Achievements are the least intuitive and grindiest so far. They are hard to understand and not fun.

Fact: Nobody, no class has obvious casting animations on an Asura.

I have never seen a developer make any kind of comment related to land speed, so I think the answer to OP is that land speed is not looked at for balance.

That’s a shame because land speed is most important in PvE and WvW, where it is horribly unbalanced. But a balancer looking at tpvp wouldn’t see that.

I mean a ham bow warrior, not taking any leaps and only taking a 10 point movement speed trait, still put land-speeds my necromancer taking land speed traits and utilities, thanks to his banner 3 and 4. It is awful running with a Zerg and never killing any Yak ever because my character is too slow.

Problem with Tequatl isn’t the difficulty, the problem is the 1 hour queque.

Tequatl isn’t fun or rewarding enough for a 1 hour wait.

The problem is that the encounter was designed so that you need 100 players but the zone holds only 110 players, so you have to:

1. Organize enough players so that the boss can be beat, but also
2. Show up early because if enough players do want to show up, a lot of them will be kicked out if they didn’t arrive early enough.

End result is frustration.

Future bosses should be (and I don’t care whether they are harder or not) doable with about the same amount of people as jormag

Or the timers should be removed.

I hate Tequatl,

Boss requires 100 people, zone hold 110 people before it kicks to overflow. Seriously???

To do the boss you need to queue up for almost an hour. Yuck. More of this not wanted.

The big robot looks more interesting, The video of the wurm and description reminds me of that guild mission where you have to down the three bosses all at the same time.
