I got a little ‘Storm’ a week ago that I got to sell for a bit of gold, that was nice.
What I don’t like about Jormag (and no, I don’t care if it’s his half-cousin’s sister who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors, it’s “Jormag” to me just like all you folks call dungeons cryptic things HoQ3, 3F8Y) right now is having to use the Jonny Commander Zap Zap Go Rifle Squadron Pew Pew to bring his shield down. I hope they fix that.
I struggle to make gold myself. There was another guide out here recently that talked about making gold. It basically said to go do dungeons and fractals all day, or long chains in Orr (all of which I don’t like doing, at all), and never craft, because that wastes money (and that’s one of my favorite things).
So for someone like me, who enjoys playing the game, I apparently enjoy the wrong things, if I expect to make money.
Unlike many of you, I do place a certain practical value on my personal time. Wasting my time steadfastly playing a game that may or may not improve to an acceptable level at some indistinct time in the future is NOT a good investment in my personal time.
Unless, we place the same practical value on our own personal time as you, and find the game to be at an acceptable and/or above level and continue playing for that reason?
I agree wholeheartedly, if it were not, I would not be playing!
Though, I would play myself to make the determination, and not read a general forum to make that decision.
I agree. Maybe not exploits, but bugs, yes.
1. Was it a bug that we could use our own abilities against Jormag’s ice shield, and they fixed it? I’d like to know if that were the intention, as many others, so we could voice our opinions and concerns.
2. Did they fix a ‘bug’ by not letting us preview armor we can’t wear?
Or…hopefully this new patch fixed ‘those’ bugs which they introduced in the last patch. Much like they had to fix jumping quickly after they broke it last time.
And then there’s things like being able to transmute armor cross faction from one character to another. Will they fix that ‘bug’? I sure hope not, I don’t think it’s a bug myself. Luckily (hopefully) I’m done, but what if someone comes along behind those of us who have done it, read old posts on how to do it, buy the piece for 2g only to find out they “fixed a bug” and that no longer works?
Not to mention giving us the opportunity to voice our opinions about what they see as ‘bugs’.
And no, you can’t just reclassify things as exploits then so you don’t have to waste time typing it out.
“No, no…no bugs this time, just lots of exploits!”
Very few little ‘nit picky’ things from me as well, but overall it’s been (and will continue to be for me, I still have lots to do) a great experience.
Finally got it! Everyone stuck around to help as long as they could. I thanked them and a few left. About 5 min later I dropped a Lava Font on a building that was clearly burned out already and it ticked off (as well as for another person in the group).
Well that’s just silly, it was already broken.
I hate dungeons myself.
Having said that, this plays much more like an outside chain event you happen to be at with 4 other people. That’s it. It’s actually pretty fun. I ran it twice. I regret not doing it more yesterday, but hopefully after Thursday I can find people willing to do the Grove version a few more times so I can get some of the missing materials I might need for a pet.
I don’t own a single pet yet, thought it would be fun just to try to get the 5 you can make from each place.
What is ‘really’ frustrating me is getting the stomping the town achievement. Both times I stuck around and broke ‘everything’ and it didn’t work.
I have this achievement, I even helped a group get it yesterday. You need to check everything. What held the group up was one of the Norn homes.
Everything is broken. There are like nests with bones in them, but those don’t seem to do anything?
I don’t remember exactly but my high score is somewhere around 500. I found it relatively easy, maybe because I’ve played a lot of Guitar Hero and similar games, but I also only played enough to get the achivement. I’ll go back to it later but I want to do the jump puzzle first.
Ha. This must be easy for a pianist. I am not one and I have troubles coordinating 8 fingers at the same time. Perfect score? For me same insanity as guitar hero perfect play on hardest mode.
I’ve been playing Piano for over 20 years. My highest score is around the low 500s. So no, its not easy for pianists.
Unless, we can somehow keybind our pianos to play the game :p
I’ve heard that guitarists actually find Guitar Hero harder than non-guitstists because the movements required feel odd to them. Maybe it’s the same here?
I can do this event, but as someone who plays the guitar (not well, mind you) I found this totally true. I can’t play Guitar Hero to save my life. Not that this would come up as a pivotal moment in defining my humanity, saving the world by playing Guitar Hero, but I’m just saying.
I like the lower range, and I’m at 58n. I’m sure I’ve gotten higher than 580 once or twice, but I can’t say for ‘sure’. I’m sure I have never broken 590. The 2nd to the last one (lower) is where I fall apart. I can usually get perfect scores on the other pieces.
Lava Font, Meteor Shower, Ice Spike, the initial blast from Eruption.
I’m indiscriminately laying waste upon waste in large areas that look totally destroyed, in the hopes of finding that last little thing, and still nothing.
I’ve been in here for 40 minutes and don’t want to leave to have to do this a third time.
Does it matter if everyone left?
This is the second time (and only 2nd dungeon run I’ve done) I’ve stuck around to try to do this and just can’t seem to do it. I don’t know anyone else who plays the game, and I’m not in a big guild of ‘sorta know’ people, so it’s just me. I don’t think I can do this solo, matter of fact, I know I can’t.
So I’m sitting in here now, I tried looking at all the places listed above and don’t see anything left? Thoughts?
They will continue to change throughout the week as Tixx produces the different toys. There’s also a random chance to see a toy (or skritt) from an earlier day. I’m sorry that these are currently too difficult, have you tried tackling them with an extra person or two?
It seems if I’m not the one to open the box, I don’t get a box reward. Furthermore, and maybe this is just unlucky timing of RNG compared with who starts the fight, but it sure seems like I get less presents if I’m not the one starting the thing. Which, even if only a perceived difference, doesn’t seem to lend well to the whole spirit of cooperation thing. Much like the Gift Bringer/Gift Stopper achievement.
Make the presents appear once all the critters are dead. 3-5 per big box. Littered around the ground, and they just stay there like nodes for 10 minutes so even if you get to the present late you can pick one up. I bet you’d find more bands of people running around together to do them, and then difficulty wouldn’t be an issue.
I’ve done it about 10 times so far, it’s generally fun. There are two things I don’t like about it. One they can’t do anything about.
First, the achievements are designed such that you end up having to work against your own team to complete them. Make the objectives if your “side” accomplishes those things, and greatly up the counts.
Second, and you can’t really do anything about this, but its sad to see people just leave when our side isn’t doing so well, or even throw in the ubiquitous “I’m playing with idiots” comment before you /rq. It’s a holiday event.
. It’s not even terribly long. Happy Wintersday? /shrug
But I like the mechanic, and overall philosophy. It’s fun to pick a different “class” each time. I settled on support, helping package carriers back, but I’ll never get the achievement at this rate, and that’s fine. Would have been nicer if the rewards were team based.
I used to be able to target the front shield with any of my own person spells. I usually just kept in water and kept as much healing as I could going during that part, and switched to damage when we’d run in.
It’s not even visible. Usually there is a front piece that is targetable, tab target, just like a mob. Not only isn’t it tab targetable, you don’t see it, or at least I don’t see that piece. The only thing that seems to work is the ray gun. :|
Of course that assumes one skin doesn’t skyrocket while others plummet (which is probably what will happen).
(cough)princesswandandslingshot(cough)
And those are my two favorites. I was impatient, I paid about 90s each. Oh well, I still enjoy them.
What did you receive that was a secret?
To take the shield down, in this patch, was that on purpose?
Or are we just bugged on Emhry?
Because it’s really not very fun.
Wow map completion includes “discovery” as well? That would be extremely hard to track down :/ Especially if it’s underground/hidden.
I found the easiest thing to do for discovery is look for ‘white named places’ you are missing. You can do this from the comfort of LA (or wherever you like to meander).
Go to the zone page for each area in the official wiki and click on the picture of the map and again to zoom in. Open your map and drag it over to the corresponding area. Alt-tab back and forth between that map and the game map and move them around and look for any white named places you don’t have. If you have them all, move on to the next zone and compare.
I enjoy some jumping puzzles. I’ve done a few in the early zones that were fun enough without being too stressful. I like the WvW one in the Borderlands, so much that I run it once or twice a day (w/ different characters), assuming it’s (relatively) safe. I also enjoy doing the EB one, though it’s long, and I’ll only do it when we are dominant in EB and I don’t fear being help upside by my feet while all my money spills out on the floor. Though it’s enjoyable when there are enemies there that aren’t interested in killing you so much as completing the puzzle.
What I don’t like are the timed ones. Where I don’t get to take my time with them. Even some of the ones where you have to time wind so you aren’t blow off, or navigate fire or something, those can be timed internally and planned. I don’t like being rushed at things, it makes me uncomfortable.
So I don’t do those. So far, it happens that the two event jump puzzles were that variety, so I didn’t get to do them. That’s ok. I do excel at the bell thing on the stage, so I do that, a lot. Still haven’t had a perfect score, but I’m trying.
It’s not that they are farming them, it’s that they are doing two things at once.
These people enjoy WvW more than participating in your average PvE content, I would gather, but now that they can ‘also’ participate in the holiday event a little at the same time they are doing what they love to do, well there you go.
And at the end of the day, if it’s 1-2 people in a group of 12, the law of ‘something’, I would think, would dictate you have just as much chance of that happening in the squad of people you are fighting, right?
Ah, ok thanks. And only the chest you buy? Would they ever come out of the presents littered around the world?
It is the second most annoying thing I have encountered with wintersday, the snowballs being the worst.
Iiifff…I promise not to ring it near you, will you tell me where it comes from?
Where does that come from? I presume it’s not the skin? Some people have this bell and when they swing it fast it plays a song.
Must…have…bell!
This seems like a good place to ask for a copy of the Velvet Hose model (light) that doesn’t have the hose.
Anyone else experience this at all? When it gets to the part where you are supposed to break his wall, you can’t target the wall any more? At least with your own weapons. It seems like you have to get a ray gun or something?
Makes it a bit difficult to just sit there passively helping to heal people with my Water Staff.
Where is the vendor for the Whispers Armor?
If you joined the Order of Whispers faction, it’s in that cave in Bloodtide south of LA on Stormbluff Isle? The cave entrance is on the NW corner of the island, and there’s a zone into Chantry of Secrets from there.
Conceptually, I like jumping puzzles, a lot, actually. I don’t like it when they have a ‘time’ component to them. I don’t particularly care when they have monsters and such either. I like the two WvW puzzles? I mean, when they aren’t being camped. The puzzles themselves are fun.
So I tried clock tower maybe 5 times, I gave up rather quickly, because I knew what would happen if I kept trying. I don’t have a good personality for things like that. So when I heard this puzzle had a timed component, I tried 3 times, and that was it.
So for me, jumping puzzles that have any sort of timed or other mechanic that makes me have to make any jump at a pace that isn’t my own, will just become like dungeons to me (which I don’t care for after years and years of the same sort of experiences, drama, stress, bullying, etc).
But…that is just a comment on the mechanic and how I feel about it. I’m sure the puzzle is awesome and people are enjoying it. I don’t think the thing shouldn’t exist because “I” don’t like it, that’s crazy. I think it’s unfortunate for the people that wanted something harder, as to me, it’s no different than when I want something in the game (like a Velvet Hose skirt without the hose…hint hint), and don’t get it. I sympathize.
Maybe next time they’ll design the puzzles with about 3 levels of difficulty with 3 different achievements related to them? The super-tough Mad King style puzzle, something in between (like, I’m guessing, Wintersday is, based on comments), and then a whimpy puzzle with no time factor (I’m ok with obstacles like fire, wind, light, that sort of thing…maybe the occassional monster), and have a “Really, that’s all the better you can do?” achievement associated with it.
Just sell the socks/hats/sweater and buy the skin on tp.
Didn’t realize you could sell and trade all of this, that was a great idea, thank you. Not sure if I’ll end up gaining or losing money, but it doesn’t matter so much. I’d rather get a few things sooner to make sure I get them, and then just let the rest roll in when it rolls in.
I don’t mean to under mine the fun, because it is, and really nicely done – thank you!
That aside, there are quite a few of the toy skins I was thinking of getting. I like the sling shot for my Ranger, and the princess wand and bell seem must haves (though I hardly use the wand/bell combination, but that’s ok).
Thinking about how many things I’ll need to save up, it seems to be going slow, and a ‘little’ random, so I had a few questions.
I’m doing the music thing now, mostly because that’s my speed and it’s not terribly stressful. I found a few boxes in the world up in Frostgorge after doing Jormag (which is totally broken, but another topic), and got a few things there, though the fighting was a little hard for me alone and that many skritts.
So after having found 3 world boxes and doing the music thing 4 times, I have 7 hats, 6 socks and 8 sweaters. Is that about on par? Is it more efficient to just go out hunting boxes or doing one of the other events?
Also, are the 3 things just completely random? Is there any way to focus on one type of barter item?
Thanks.
Has anyone bought it yet? I’d like to know what the scepter does. I bought the witches outfit back at Mad King, but the only thing I still enjoy from it are the boots (because they are smaller than the boots we start with, though I don’t care for the bones) and the broom (because you can ride it and it does a lot of other fun stuff).
Does anyone know what that scepter does?
You (or I) can’t target the shield. Seems you can target it if you have some toy gun. Was that in the patches notes and I missed it, or a bug?
or grnw or gnwy
I like that second one. I don’t suppose I can change it now?
Ah. Well, that could very well be, let me try something else…
Edit: Yup, that was it! I used ‘gwy’ instead. Thanks.
Figured I’d ask here, as many of you are good at finding the words within the words, and I’m just not seeing it.
I was trying to make ‘Greenway’. I was going to have ‘gw’ as the tag. I get a message saying “Greenway [gw]” contains words or partial words that are not permitted.
Any thoughts?
My Ranger would like fixed Vigil pants, or a sewing kit to fix her own belly.
My Elementalist would like a skirt modeled after the Velvet Hose…only without the hose part.
I demand to know the age of this thread’s OP.
It cannot be that a sensible mature person with responsibilities in life, will resort to spend his free time in reporting instead of actually playing his game of choice.I don’t even…
P.S
I’m parking a few of my characters on top of that rich ori for quick cash every day since I barely bother to play lately, you little kitteners better watch who you’re reporting.
Well, I’m not the OP, but I’m also not 8.
First, regarding your PS, I doubt anyone would. Having seen how this works, you logging a character in, mining, and logging out would look ‘very’ different. You wouldn’t have the speed. There would be a significant amount of time between the time you logged in and started mining.
Furthermore, if they ‘friend’ or ‘block’ you temporarily, it’s easy to then track where you are. Did you really just log out? And bring in another character on a node somewhere and logout 45 seconds later? That’s not what is happening.
These fine, upstanding citizens with 2.4 children, 2 cars (1 a mini van) with responsibilities and day jobs are using a third party hacking program to teleport around the world from node to node, mine, flash out. No, they aren’t millionaires that are using the waypoints. If you ever tracked one, you’d know.
Google on teleport hacking for GW2, you’ll find some. I’m not going to post them here. There’s a great, production quality one that cracks me up. It is actually a hacking tool that does all sorts of things, scaling walls, flying, besides the teleporting. They have a little UI with a list box with saved locations, and they click to go there, and they are there. I’m sure they have a little web site somewhere where they all help each other log the locations of all the nodes after resets so they can share and download on a given server.
Second, I’m a bit curious as to the tone of the first part? Do you believe that someone who uses a program like this is well within their rights to do so?
This happened to me the first time yesterday, thought it was just me!
I was at Jormag, which fits the profile. I just muted my sound system and tried to finish the event, but eventually I ended up crashing. When I came back in, the problem was gone.
It seems the last patch broke the model for the medium armor: Vigil Leggings
There is now a rather noticeable seam in the midsection of the character where previously there was none. I have taken a screenshot of the problem and placed it next to a screenshot taken just yesterday for comparison: (Bug.png, Bug2.png)
I’ve included a screenshot of the character panel: (Bug3.png)
Equipment is as follows:
Head: Trooper’s Mark of Balthazar
Shoulders: Berzerker’s Duelist Pauldrons of Grenth
Torso: Berzerker’s Duelist Coat of Balthazar
Gloves: Carrion Duelist Gloves of Rage
Legs: Vigil Leggings of Hoelbrak
Boots: Murmur Boots (Lvl 79 Karma armor, “Fine” rarity)Weapon set 1:
Berserker’s Pistol of Bloodlust
Berzerker’s Pistol of EarthSet2:
Berzerker’s Dagger of Grawl Slaying
Berzerker’s Dagger of Grawl SlayingThe issue seems to persist even after the removal of all other equipment as well:(Bug 4.png)
I came out to report this same thing. The light winged legs had a problem, at least 3-4 weeks or more ago when I used to wear them.
Currently wearing the Vigil on my Ranger as well, and notice the seam.
Kudos on thinking to test it with ‘just’ the pants, I hadn’t thought of that. Until I saw that, I had assumed it was an issue possibly with top/bottom combinations, and not really one piece by itself, but how it interacts with another piece. Apparently that isn’t (always?) the case.
Don’t feel bad, I did a ‘Compact’ accidentally the other day instead of ‘Deposit Collectibles’. That was a lot of fun getting everything back to where it was supposed to be.
Mine is doing the same thing hopefully a moderator can see this and give us advice on what to do. Seen this same issue in other threads but no responses from anet.
I have a support ticket in. A lot of back and forth. They had me run all sorts of diagnostics and upload logs and such. They even had me restart with all my other services that would normally start turned off. I think it got to a point where they said they escalated it, and keep an eye out for something? I don’t know, hopefully that means it made some sort of bug list.
Weird that it seems to have happened out of nowhere?
I hope they fix it, but in the meantime, I’m hoping some kind souls out here might have found a solution to it and wouldn’t mind sharing.
This is probably a silly question but are you referring to the armor earned through playing in PvP that can be transmuted for the look and used outside of PvP?
Thanks.
No, we’re talking about the faction armor in PvE that you can buy from each of the 3 faction vendors (Priory, Vigil, Whispers). You can only join one faction per character, and therefore only have access to one set of armor, if you like that armor, with no ability to ‘mix-n-match’, unless you use the method described above.
Edit: And would add I don’t really know anything about PvP armor and how/where you get to where it. I think the ‘PvP locker’ comments come up from time to time, because like myself, it’s how I learned how to go try on different armor to see what looks good, then I’d go translate that into finding what the counter parts were in PvE. I think the OP did the same, and saw that something desired was not in their faction, which prompted the question.
@Joey – Yes.
Ranger (at the time) 65ish.
Guardian to 27 to join the Vigil, go shopping, buy leather pants from vendor, transmute onto white low level pants, merging the display, but keeping the low level white stats (stats on level 70 item gone) and the result is an ‘account bound’ really bad piece of white armor…that looks really nice. Drop it in the bank, Ranger picks it up and transmutes it onto whatever (just pulling the look).
Ironically, ‘after’ I had already bought the leather legs, it was at that point that I had the concern that I wouldn’t be able to transmute it because it wasn’t an item a Guardian could use. Luckily that doesn’t matter. The soulbound warning ended up being account bound, and I had read a bunch before hand and the consensus seemed to be that wouldn’t happen. It was a nearly 2g gamble, but it paid off.
Just in case, here’s my Ranger with Whisper (chest)/Vigil (legs). Hands are crafted, I think the boots might be too. Was looking for the least bulky things I could find. I suppose I could have photo shopped it, but I’m not that smart.
Edit: And to reiterate, it’s the Guardian that does the first transmutation. The guardian will need a ‘fine’ stone (since the source is level 80), and your Ranger will need a fine stone if applying it to 80 armor. The first transmute is done to a vendor white. I wouldn’t risk doing it to a blue, green, crafted, etc. Vendor bought cheap white bought with your lowest level character.

This reminded me of this old video so I thought I’d share.
Or…perhaps, you will find adventure first!
It started happening with me, literally out of nowhere. I was playing fine, after someone actually explained to me that they were having this issue. What happens an hour later? I open up my friends list, and drop from 60FPS to 5.
When did this start happening to you, and did it ever correct itself? I’m guessing not?
Started a couple days ago, same day I made that post. Still happening now. It went from fine to… well, having this issue, all in one play session. Nothing on my computer changed in that time, nothing new downloaded that might cause it, etc.
Guess we got bit by the same thing at about the same time?
I don’t suppose we have a common path to the servers or provider that might have started throttling something on us?
I’ve got an open support ticket and they are asking me to run lots of diagnostics and upload logs.
Unfortunately, there’s not. You’re stuck with whatever faction you chose for that character, and since all the armor is soulbound once you purchase it, it wouldn’t work to make an alt join the order of whispers either.
Actually, this does work rather well.
1. I ran an alt up to around 26-27 and joined the Vigil (I wanted the leather pants).
2. As soon as I joined, I was able to run out to the vendor and buy the pants with my Guardian (who can’t wear armor of that type, which is important later).
3. Used the lowest level character I had (I’m cheap :p) to buy the cheapest ‘white’ leather legs I could from an armor vendor in a city, and threw it in the bank.
4. My guardian picked up the white pants from the bank, and used a ‘Fine’ transmutation stone (since the source is a level 80 item), to transmute ‘only the look’ onto the white lets, keeping the stats of the white legs intact.
Two things to note here:
1. You are allowed to transmute things, apparently, using a character that could never use those items because of class restrictions.
2. Even though it warns you that the resulting item will be soul bound, the item I received was ‘account bound’. Whether this is a bug that will be patched later or not, I can’t say, I did this less than a week ago. It would be a shame if they did, I can’t think of any reason to put in such a punishment. They got me to spend money, what do they care?
5. Put my new low level ‘account bound’ white pants in the bank (with the look of the Vigil legs).
6. Login my Ranger, pick up the ‘account bound’ white pants, and used a ‘basic’ transmutation stone (because I was not level 80 at the time and wanted to put them on the pants I was currently wearing, though I know I’ll need a ‘fine’ when I eventually morph them on my final Exotic armor) to apply the look to my current legs.
7. Result: Whispers top with Vigil leggings.
Armor and weapon skins along with town clothing should be like dye. You memorize the pattern, and then can apply it on a whim (just the look, not stats) whenever you want.
The transmutation stones are still used to ‘memorize’ the skin, and are also still used to move inserts and stats. But the first time you pick anything as a source, you now know it’s look. I don’t like the idea of paying $74/mo (<-hyperbole) so I can have days-of-the-week armor. Or alternatively spend the money on tons of bank space and 32 (<- more hyperbole) different sets of Exotic armor each with different looks.
I pretty much like the rest of the game, though I wish that the abolishment of the trinity didn’t mean the ‘complete’ death of non-DPS roles.
Do this every day if you can. More often than not, you’ll get most of it done just doing whatever, but best to take a look at it when you only have 30 minutes or so left. An easy way to finish up is to go to a 1-15 zone like Queensdale. Or pick a zone where you see people complaining about not having anyone to play with.
Edit: And the jugs are account bound, so if you don’t really need it on your main, you can bank them for other characters. Karma is a bit slow early on, so I like to give a new character a few jugs so they can buy anything they want at every Heart they finish to at least keep them in trinkets and such as they level up.

You can also hit your weapon swap key to swap out of your town clothes quickly into the last weapon set you had equipped before you put town clothes on. Yes, even if you are an Elementalist (as am I).
I hot keyed shift-z to toggle my town/fighting clothes quickly, and I can either hit shift-z before going into combat, or `.
