breaks out tin foil hat
So, did they try to intentionally fix something they considered was an exploit of some kind, and it over corrected, and it’s ‘not’ in the patch notes?
Or…did fixing something else break jumping? Which would be really weird if it went with something like fixing the boxing gloves or something?

Yes, I posted in tech support.
For the time being, if you do a quick double-tap of the space bar every time you just want to jump once, it seems to work. Of course it throws off all the muscle memory stuff we’ve been working on.
After this last little patch this afternoon (evening, tomorrow, gmt +/-, beyond the sun).
I have to double-mash space to do a single jump most of the time. I’m in a WvW puzzle and if I just hit it once, I walk right off the edge. Not ‘missing’, just not even jumping.
I’m no Donkey Kong, but I’m pretty nimble.
In it’s overall, general philosophy, I like it. I hope things don’t go the way of NGE or Realm Reborn, but time will tell.
Having said that, there are some mechanics that I’d love to see changed. At the top of my list is armor skinning and town clothes. And yes, I do wear town clothes out in the world and would wear them more if there were more variety. The fact that you can hot key switching in and out of town clothes easily now, plus being able to hit your ‘weapon swap’ key (whether you can weapon swap or not) forcing you out of your town clothes, even if not hot keyed, into your fighting garb, the segregation still has a place.
Now, what do I want changed? Simple!
1. Transmutation stones are fine as is with one exception. The first time you pick a ‘source’ as the visual (top part) that should be memorized on the character like a dye (and I’m fine with per character, they gotta make ‘some’ money on TStones).
2. Once you have a ‘skin dye’ memorized, you can apply it any time you want without needing a stone, just like you can change the color of your clothes every 3 ft, if you so choose.
3. I suppose the same would work with weapons, though I haven’t put a lot of thought in it since I like rather plain weapons.
4. Town clothes would work similar, except when you buy or acquire a town clothing piece, you double-click it to ‘memorize’ the look (like a dye), and then you ‘color’ your town outfit slots with whatever look you want, on the fly. This has the important benefit of (when we do get 32,000 town outfits some day…yay!) making sure I don’t have to buy $23,488 worth of bag space. Town clothing become more like dyes (just like proposed armor skins), and physical town clothing goes away. Your town clothing ‘slots’ now just become things you target in your paper doll to apply a town clothing look to.
And I ‘see’ all those wonderful NPC outfits that already exist, and I know there are clipping issues, but you could implement them as multi-slot outfits. You apply the town look to your chest piece, and it over writes everything with one look. Like TSW does with some of theirs (and I don’t understand the agro over them, but I digress). Seems like it would be an easy way to get ‘some’ things out there.
Of course, my “armor skin and town clothing as dye like entities” idea is a big over haul. But there you go, those are the types of things I focus on, because the core game is more or less fine to me (unless they go NGE/Realm Reborn on us).
Ironically, I ‘do’ need an nVidia patch related to DX11, but it doesn’t have anything to do with GW2.
I need it because my DX11 broke in TSW when I updated to Windows 8.
Everything else is fine, though I need to come up with a full, disaster recover back-up solution to replace Ghost 15 which had served me well for many years through many versions. Remains to be seen whether Symantec will be making something new. Sure, there’s RecImg Manager, but it’s a completely different philosophy. I like full on drive failure solutions which can also be used to restore one or two files at a time, though I can see situations where RecImg Manager will be useful as well.
So uhm…yeah, moar nVidia fixes for Windows 8!
The amount you get for completing a daily is pretty standard and consistent – 5s @ 80 for example. However, IF you get an extra reward beyond the Jug and Coin, such as a repair canister for instance, the amount of silver you receive is greater than the standard amount (so, more than 5s @ 80.)
Well this may very well be right. I got 5.70 on my 80 today when I got a Basic Transmutation Stone. Usually I get just the 5 when I get the coin and the jug.
All areas have mobs that drop rares.
Your best bet is to take some MF gear and food into Orr and head to the tunnel and farm the events there. Lots of high-lvl loot you can sell/salvage as well as lots of rares.
You certain of this? I was about to say the same thing but I’ve never seen rare gear lower than level 20, so I’d have to jump on the game to see what the lowest rare gear available is to see what zones you could get drops in.
And if you’re about to mention the gear-scales-to-level thing that doesn’t exactly work. Some people get random results – personally all the gear I get from drops is always scaled whilst none of the weapons I get from lower level zones are ever 74+… they always reflect the level of the zone I’m in.
That’s true. The lowest yellow is lvl 30? and you don’t get ectos under 68. But in my personal experience I’ve gotten lvl 74 yellows from lvl 40+ maps, so down leveling still works. And it should be even better now that they’ve increased the amount and lvl of loot that down leveled people usually get.
For what it’s worth, I got an Exotic level 76 weapon as a random drop on my 80 from a centaur while playing in Gendarran (25-35) a few days ago. Wasn’t part of a DE.
This is a terrible poll, generally weighted toward getting feedback on obtaining “stuff” in game. “Stuff” is not a major factor in my enjoyment of the game, and I trust that AN will not take this poll as evidence that loot and income is the biggest issue with regards to game longevity or overall fun. Nonetheless I will answer the questions because maybe someone at AN will use it.
Edit: Nevermind. I got to question 15 where it asked for one word for something that needs improvement. One word? Here is one word: sheep. I choose not to be one.
I had that initial reaction when I read through it, especially the middle part (well, ‘most’ of the middle part), and one of the items, I didn’t even know what it was (I guess that means I don’t have any).
Then I read through some of the other answers, and realized it was an opportunity to answer those questions so it reinforces my belief that it’s not something I’m terribly conscious of, or has much bearing on my enjoyment (especially the big entitlement question).
But “15. Sheep” kinda covers it too. Just seems a bit angry.
I’m always leary of saying ‘remove’. I’m all about ‘choices and options’.
I’d like to see them move to a model where you have 8-10 options to complete, and you complete any 5 to do the achievement. Daily or Monthly. With a bit of care put towards ensuring there are options there for people that don’t like to do dungeons, fractals or wvw.
I happen to love WvW (though admittedly not very good at it), and can manage the 50 kills (at least so far), I didn’t care for the fractal option. Last month I sucked it up and did the 7 dungeons, though it wasn’t my favorite thing to do, it was stressful, as they are in any game, and I just didn’t care for it. Only to have the ‘??’ open and find out they were not “kill 50 festive turkeys!” but “do fractals” and “crabs”. I was a bit bummed. The WvW kills were the only enjoyable thing of the 4.
So that’s what I’m hoping. Give us some choices and we put together any 5. There were some in the past, I recall, that were more PvE and non-dungeon (I count fractals as dungeons) oriented. There was a DE count one once. The old salvage one. That’s 2. I don’t mind the WvW one, but I can see why people wouldn’t want that, so we won’t count that. What was the old 4th one? Well I’m sure they could think of 3 more. Maybe to do a certain amount of DEs in every zone? Some way to encourage people to visit more places? Gathering, was that one?
13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)
Only overflow. If it doesn’t fit in my collectibles. Even then, I’ll check to see if there isn’t something I can refine to make room, ‘unless’ I have a character coming up (and they are getting close) to being able to use the raw materials to level up, then I’ll hoard the overflow as well. Worked out nicely today for a new Jewelcrafter I was working on, getting through silver. Once everyone gets past everything, my plan is to get to 250 refined, 250 raw, then start selling the overflow.
14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?
Yes. But my ‘return’ doesn’t focus so much on material things like items, completion, income. However, I will say I get the most enjoyment when I don’t have to ‘notice’ those things that much, and I will say that I ‘notice’ the shortage of money quite a bit.
15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
Strategery!
Seriously, one word? No one else did one word! :p
I have a few things on my list, but my ‘big’ pet peeves (very related) are:
1. Lack of Town Clothing
2. Armor skin system (I guess this would apply to weapons too, but I like ‘simple’ looking weapons, so don’t really care so much about them).
They are related in that the solution I’d like to see would be the same for both.
First. Town Clothes. One million options. Thank you.
Second. The skinning system. It should work like dyes. Don’t have to get rid of Trans stones, they would still serve a purpose. They would be useful as a means to move sigils and such from one place to another, move stats, and the first time you use it, the thing you pick as a look should get saved just like a dye (character specific is fine, they have to make ‘some’ money on trans stones).
Once you know that ‘look’, you can then apply it without a transmutation stone, just like a dye whenever the mood suits you.
Town clothes should be the same way. You buy them (I don’t care where they come from, cash shop, whatever, just don’t make dungeon and fracthole exclusive please), and then when you ‘use’ the item, you mem a skin, like a dye. Then instead of open slots that you put clothes in, you just apply town skins to each position, ‘coloring’ the slot with a town skin, so to speak.
I’m fine with the other mechanisms. Town clothes can’t be in combat. Blah blah blah. I can live with that. I’d just like to be able to change my look on a whim like I change the color of my clothes, and we need lots more town clothes.
And we need lots more armor skins.
And did I mention moar?
1. When did you begin playing? (post bw’s)
I might have created my characters during the earliest pre-order head start you could be in, but something tells me I was out of town and basically started the Wednesday after everyone else started on a Tuesday, I think? Something like that.
2. how many hours total do you have? (/age)
734 (610 on my main)
3. What’s your most gold banked so far?
28 (what I currently have, slowly going up, trying to save up for a top for my Ranger 59 since most of the leather armor is rather ugly, though I ‘might’ resign myself to stick with the Whispers dress and call it a day…since I managed to also get the Vigil legs on her, it’s a nice combination)
4. Do you have a max level character (s)? (number if more than one)
Yes
5. List 1-3 areas / zones / events / tp; where you spend most of your time for income.
I don’t like dungeons, so I don’t do those. I did Arah to finish my personal story, though I won’t bother doing it on any other character (and would hope some day they either figure out a way around having to do that at all, or just make you do it once and every other character just gets it done so you can move forward). I did 7 more dungeons last month, thinking the ?? achievements would be chasing turkeys or something to that effect. And then it ended up being fractholes and crabs. So that was a waste of my time. I see the fractholes are back, so I’m not bothering with the monthly until those go away (see 15).
Wait, what was the question? Oh yeah. So I spend a lot of time in low level zones. Gathering materials for alts when they need them, doing DEs and such. While I got my 100% completion, I don’t like spending time in Orr. Frostgorge is ok, but it’s a little too white for me, I guess (though I like snow zones in other games, so I’m not sure what it is). I seem to get enough things to sell around my level to make a little money.
I also do WvW, though I’ll admit it’s far more profitable when you get to do PvDoor vs having to defend so much. Wish they could figure out how to reward defending and losing more.
6. Do you mainly use MF or not?
No, not on purpose. I may have had a piece or two coming up in the ranks, but at 80, I don’t think I have any on me at this point?
7. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a mob? If so, how many and total?
Sure. I just got a 76th level Exotic hand axe (power/prec/cond w/ a superior sigil of water) from a random centaur in Ambush Camp in Gendarran Fields yesterday. I have 6 other 76th level Exotics I was going to give other characters in my bank, as well as about 10 other yellow items that seemed kinda nice, though I got to the point where I started melting all yellows in that level range for Ectos, and I should probably review and melt some of those (and free up some bank space).
8. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a chest? If so, how many and total?
Not sure if any of those Exotics came from a chest? I don’t find myself at chests very often. I bet they were mostly random mob drops.
9. What’s the most number of rare weapons you have looted in one day or 8hrs time?
This would be a guess, but I bet I had a 2 day once or twice? But really I’m lucky to see rare+ once or twice a week, but I don’t do dungeons or awesome things that put me in a place to maybe get them.
10. How many rare or exotic weapons do you “expect” to loot in one hour of time?
0 (Not being sarcastic or passive aggressive, I just don’t ‘expect’ or feel I’m entitled to any sort of guaranteed rate of return like that.)
11. How many lodestones have you looted total so far? (all types)
I guess I’ll say 0, as I have no idea what that is.
12. Do you craft? If so, do you have a 400 crafter? if so, how many?
Yes. 400 Tailor/Artifice (alts are coming alone nicely, with 330 in Leather, Huntsman on my Ranger and Weaponsmithing on a Guardian (who is only 27, so I let her Armorsmithing get put on hold while she just spends time making sure my Ranger has shiny new weapons every 5 levels. Yes you heard me, every 5 levels, I’m a nut.)
[TO BE CONTINUED]
The amount you get for completing a daily is pretty standard and consistent – 5s @ 80 for example. However, IF you get an extra reward beyond the Jug and Coin, such as a repair canister for instance, the amount of silver you receive is greater than the standard amount (so, more than 5s @ 80.)
Well, if no one objects, I’m going to keep my tin foil hat on a ‘wee’ bit longer.
That’s really interesting. I’ll have to start doing this with my Ranger. She’s 59. My 80, like yours, has ‘always’ only gotten 5s as the most.
Which then begs the question: Did they increase it, but for some reason existing 80s are bugged?
It doesn’t have anything to do with the amount you do. I can do everything except one step and get the 5s on my 80 doing that one step. I’ve done the reverse as well, just ‘happening’ to finish the daily on another character when I was having fun (imagine that) and it snuck by me before I could switch. I don’t recall anything out of the ordinary there.
I can start in about 22 minutes, I’ll use my Ranger and report what I get. I ‘always’ only get 5s with my 80. If I should be getting 6,7+ silver on my 80, I’d sure like that fixed.
I wish my dye acquisition karma (karma-karma; not game-karma) would rub off on my ability to acquire crafting materials like ‘bone shards’ and the like. Those all seem like a nightmare to get.
The only reason I have 37,672 [<- Hyperbole TM] dye colors is all the time I’m sitting out there trying to get 8 bones to make, say, a green shirt.
’Mer’ca!
I get at least 2-3 a day, though I do play a lot. I don’t play particularly ‘hard’, and my main spends a lot of time playing in lower level areas gathering materials for my other characters, and generally just enjoying lower level zones. I had heard once that you chances to get dyes as drops increased playing in lower level zones. Maybe there is something to that?
I don’t have any magic find to speak of, though I ‘might’ have an odd ring or accessory that has a small amount because of a stone inserted in them, or something like that. I don’t have a ‘conscious’ set of magic find gear, and don’t use magic find food.
I was loitering in Queensdale with my 58th level Ranger within the past hour and picked up another one.
“Every month this thread pops up” well yeah. Doesn’t it make more sense for the December monthly to start in December? Food for thought.
If the problem is servers that are in time zones where it is already early morning of the 1st, the solution is to create a rolling restart system instead of an across-the-board same-time adjustment.
It does start on the 1st. It starts on December 1st GMT +0, as someone above me, and I (though my post was really long, as most of them are, and generally unread as a result).
I think they should just put a little clock on the daily and monthly tabs in the achievement page that tells you what date/time the monthly will reset and what day the dailies reset, relative to your local time, and then everyone will know, because we’re always popping them open to see where we’re at.
collecting mats is the next best, doing chain events, that sort of stuff
Does the wiki or another site have good listing of zone chains?
I mostly like doing older zones. I’ll do some Frostgorge, and really don’t like Orr. I love loitering around lower areas though. Other than that one long series that ends with the big champion in Harathi, I haven’t found a lot of DEs that are full chains yet.
Not dying?
You really wont make lots of gold unless you play the TP. To play the TP you have to loot something. So go farm. heh
Oh I thought he/she meant buy low/sell high, literally ‘playing’ the market.
Yeah, I’m getting close to being able to sell stuff. I’m a crafter and a pack rat so before I could sell something like, say, Mithril, I have to make 250 bricks and have 250 raw in my collection before I sell what I can’t store.
I am getting close on a few things.
Run dungeons.. best way to make lots of money.
Wwwhats the second best?
You know what’s funny is I tried to play the trade post and lost money. Guess someone is telling me not to get in the day trading business.
The unfortunate thing is I don’t like dungeons and fractals, so my money making prospects are very slow. I can make good money in WvW if we have a PvDoor week, but sadly that was not this week. Well, partially sadly, on the bright side I started learning how to defend, which was fun, it’s just defending isn’t prosperous. At least not for me. My Elementalist seems to attract the yo-yo champions, which means I get pulled off walls and squished quickly, like a grape. And then I wine. Hah!
It does, but it’s GMT. Just like dailies. And now that it’s changed over, you have ‘tonight’ to start working on December, because it’s December 1 GMT now. The good news is there is no time lost.
They should have a clock in the achievement window where the dailies and monthlies are that tell you what time, relative to the time zone you are playing in, the day and time they will reset, and have it stay there all day, and all month. Then everyone would know how it works.
I sympathize when someone finds out how it works the first time, and plans around it changing relative to local time. Once you know how it works, you have the same amount of time between the beginning of the month and end of the month GMT, to get everything done.
As of 28 minutes ago, you can start working all night on December.
And yes, I got bit by it once too, and that’s ok.
Don’t do 100% map completion if you are a Mesmer. Just saying.
I am not smart. I don’t get the joke.
The first thing I did was 100% map completion. I started working on getting as many materials as I could on my own to make my exotic staff and 6 pieces of armor (still don’t have jewelry yet, or other weapons I fancy). I also got rather hooked on WvW, which surprised me. Comes and goes in waves. Sometimes it’s fun and profitable and sometimes not so much. I much rather participate, offense or defense, in big crowds where I don’t get singled out. I don’t like it so much when I get singled out, as I don’t perform well alone.
I do gathering for alts. I have a 58th level Ranger as a second character I have been playing up. I decided I wanted some pants from another faction so ran a Guardian up to 27th level and joined the faction so I could buy some legs and double-transmute them over for her.
I like to meander in lower areas and do DEs there. I’m not a big fan of Orr, though sometimes I’ll go to Frostgorge and loiter. It’s not even so much the usual problem that people have with Orr, I just don’t like the mood and mobs. It’s depressing. I wish there were higher level zones that just had ‘people’ in them. Bandits attacking towns, centaurs, green grass, lakes, rivers, trees, maybe a snow covered peak here or there? A Queensdale/Timberline mash-up maybe? So, I often go to those zones to play because I like them.
I’ve never gotten a double-secret pink/brownish precursor leet super crazy windsurfer sized 2 handed greatsword of WoW shoulders-r-small-in-comparison with a side of 20 ectos, but I get enough things to melt and sell, plus dyes, that it doesn’t feel like I’m wasting my time (not much of a min/max person).
I play in lower level zones with friends who recently started. I love that I can pick any character to do it with, whatever my mood is that day.
Guess I’m hardcore time/casual style.
Level scaling allows virtually the entire world to be used as end-game content. You can find challenges no matter where in the world you go, and can play anywhere without fear of ruining the challenge for others. Dynamic events would become a joke if one high level player was capable of single handedly wiping out an entire low level enemy force.
No it doesn’t. Because the drops aren’t scaled up to their levels. So why would anyone who is level 80 bother with a lower level zone? They’re not going to get anything out of it.
I don’t get a blue+ 80 ‘every’ time there’s a drop, and sometimes the ‘on level’ item is 76+, but I do get items. I would say I get more ‘actual’ 80s recently, not that I think that matters (or care to wear them, at least in armor, since I made my exotics). I’ve gotten the rare yellow drop to disenchant to ectos. I sell the blues and greens for the cash. The whites get salvaged and I’m often surprised at how much of the higher tier materials I get from those.
Is it faster and do I get rich as fast as node teleporting, dungeon runs until my fingers bleed, running the same Orr events over and over and over? Maybe not. But it’s fun to go ‘work’ lower level zones alone, with friends, or just to lend a hand in areas you remember needed bodies for DEs.
I love the downscaling, especially getting to play my main with two friends who just started, but it also makes farming for lower level mats fun. I seem to get a ‘lot’ of dyes compared to everyone else complaining they don’t drop any more. I wonder if that’s because I like to play the early levels with my main?
I don’t suppose there is a list somewhere for non-emotes as well?
I know /age, and that’s it.
I was hoping there was a /loc so I can include more specific information in my emails to exploits.
I have 395 screenshots at the moment, but the last time I uploaded one I unkind comment or two, so I’m just going to enjoy all of yours.
I farm PS mission in Orr, I earn about 2.5g per hour, if you don’t mind repetitive grinding for some extra income that is.
What is the ‘PS Mission’, and which of the Orr zones is that in?
You do not need to leave. I can attest to this.
I can verify this as well, at least for sure on the big chest in the EB puzzle (I would assume the two key chests would work the same way).
Yep, I could go there and buy them, excellent, thanks.
I’m going to run out there and try it now, thanks.
At what point after you join the faction can you put the questing on hold and just make a beeline for said vendor (wherever they are) and buy something?
I had this same problem with the water one on an Elementalist. I bugged it a long time ago.
In fact, what was fun (at least back then) was if you put it on, you can’t show it while you are in the game, but if you leave it checked as visible and log out and back in, you ‘should’ see it at the character select, just sadly not in the game.
Logged in a few characters, seems to be coming back together.
Just got in, Tarnished Coast server.
Still out on Emhry Bay, trying to login a character that happens to be in Divinity’s Reach (to dispel the LA theory).
Did a repair of my client and might or might not be a coincidence, but I can log in now.
Not that I think this has anything to do with fixing the problem, for future reference, how ‘do’ you do a repair? I don’t see the option anywhere on the launcher?

Could be because of this going on:

Or ‘you’ are the one causing all the problems! Stop pressing delete!!
All better now boys and girls.
Not it is not.
What’s a 15 character word that means ‘same’?
Emhry Bay (US)
There’s usually karma vendors (renown heart NPC) who sells one tool of the level for that map. So, the first heart you may do will sell the appropriate sickle, further up the map you complete another heart and can buy a logging axe, etc. There are also some (definitely in the lower level maps) who sell 15 crude salvage kits for karma, I can’t remember if these increase in quaility as you travel to higher maps.
Here’s a list you can check agains, regional NPCs are linked at the bottom of the page.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karma_vendors
What I found interesting is the one I found above was in Kessex but sold the Mithril ones, which are my bread and butter tool (though I carry one stack of Orch around to flip into in the event I come across one of those nodes).
Thanks folks!
@mosselyn – Yeah, I was looking for karma specific with the intention of finding as many was as possible to ‘not’ spend in game money. But if I had the money, those big stacks did seem attractive.
Well for what it’s worth, Guard Barnaby at Barnaby’s Watkittenessex has Mithril Logging Axes (stack of 75) for 378 Karma.
Now to find some picks and sickles.
Edit:
Stack of 25 Mithril Sickles
378 Karma

While all of my characters are perfect, it’s a great addition. Now if they would add faction armor to the gem shop, I got lots of rectangular green things to give.
Oh, and remember, ‘Caramel’.
Well I was going to say Emhry Bay, but I don’t think they have much of an Oceanic presence, though I could be wrong? I moved here a few weeks ago from SoS so I could play with friends just starting, and it’s been a fun little server. Also surprisingly a few more souls to see out in lower PvE areas, presumably because it’s one of the few places you can start new characters.
Just play it. Hang out in PHP forum to ask questions. Other than “OMG stop calling them toons!” (which doesn’t seem like much of a question), there isn’t too much agro going on there. And most people have helped answer all sorts of questions I’ve had.
I should take my own advice, but I’m pretty good about separating my enjoyment of the game and my fascination with MMO game forum archaeology.
All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again.
Though it would be funny if they created a town clothes outfit with a tin foil hat and a picket sign that had abilities on it to do different protests.
Hey that’s a good one too, thanks.
