Step by step on referring a friend?

Information would be nice.

Here’s the issue I am having.

I’m on SoS. I’ve been there since launch, it is my home.

I’d like any new friends to join me there, but finding a time to do that is getting more and more difficult and the hoops you have to jump through to get it all lined up is insane, but I digress.

I have a friend who bought the game, and I’m get them on SoS, looking every hour for an opening. Looks like today will be a bust. I’m hoping Wed/Thur might be a good window.

Now, if I can’t transfer them this week, then I’m going to join them on [Insert Reject Server Here], which will really be unfortunate for me, but I guess that’s what you get for having friends?

Anyways, back to how this relates to this cute program.

It was stated by a mod to not worry, that your little friend invites would get to play on your server for the duration of the event (the underlying assumption being I’d be back to square one if any of those people subsequently bought the game and wanted to join me, but again, I digress).

So what if, I send out invites to 3 people, and they sign up, and then I go join my other friend (we’re all friends and family, I won’t go into details :p), where do those people go? At what point in time is it determined where their destination will be?

Honestly, this whole server full stuff is for the birds. It doesn’t solve anything. Even if they implement the ‘join’ functionality, it’ll solve nothing, because it won’t include PvP or WvW or whatever else…it won’t work for ‘all’ things.

So in summary, everyone log off SoS for like 30 minutes please so I can go move my friend! :p

Where do guilds war in Guild Wars II?

The only thing that concerns me a bit about actual guild wars is how it would impact my enjoyment in WvW, as it might mean big guilds move ‘out’ of WvW into wherever this new area will be, and anyone like me in the special GDI guild that doesn’t want to join a fra… I mean guild, won’t get to participate in that.

But I guess it was fun (a lot of fun, surprisingly, and I’m not one to PvP in games, other than DAoC 30 BG, Darkness Falls and WoW’s Wintergrasp – which ironically, WvW seems like a mash-up of) while it lasted.

Well, I’m sure Monday means 11:59:59.999 PM PST Monday, so you get to enjoy that 00:00:00.000 of Monday insert textile roll eyes

I have the problem ‘now’ of a friend that didn’t feel like waiting, and bought the game and wants to play with me ‘now’, and I’m hear at home constantly checking to see if I can get said friend on the server, but it’s constantly full.

Is the only window…ever…on Thursday and Friday mornings once WvW has been decided for the week? I’m starting to not like this entire system. It didn’t bother me much before, because I was alone, and never though in a million years any of my friends would want to join me in this game, but alas, here they come, and I can’t play with them.

And no, I don’t want to leave.

I started on SoS pre-launch, I was on SoS in the BWEs, I have server loyalty, and I would like my friends to come join me here, and there just isn’t a realistic way to make that happen.

Even if they implemented the ‘join’ thing, that would be no good, as presumably it wouldn’t work for ‘all’ things, like WvW, and I know at least 2 of said friends will really enjoy participating in that, and yes, we’d like to do it together.

The real social threat is not the perceived loss of people who don’t know each other some how missing out on this great social experience with other people because they don’t join parties and talk in /p (I happen to ‘love’ how the game is designed as one giant party and map, quite frankly); the real social threat is ‘actual’ friends not being able to play with each other.

I would like my oompa loompa now, please.

There used to be links in the wiki to jumping puzzle videos, and now they are gone. I was curious as to why they got rid of them?

As an example, I was sure there was a direct link to a video on this page at one point. The one where the guy rambles and falls and shows the recovery short cut and what not?

Not that I can’t go find it again, but it was sure convenient to just go through the wiki.

Really the best solution is not to run solo in wvw.

Doesn’t happen often, just one of those situations where I was moving between two places to get caught up with the action, and saw someone being chased across the road in front of me, and my instinct was to follow and start attacking.

Yeah, definitely squishy, but that’s ok, I do enjoy my character quite a bit. And I like to be group oriented, even using water quite a bit in place of fire.

I’ve played with 2 daggers a ‘little’ bit just to play. Maybe I ought to round up a few exotics and practice a bit more and put those on when I find myself moving between areas alone, which happens.

Guess I just need to suck it up and try to stay with people more, though I just ‘hate’ leaving someone being chased down alone, especially 1-1 or 2-1.

Thanks.

What’s the best way to do it?

Often as an Elementalist (20/5/5/30/10 – Staff, primary run in Fire) I’ll get someone down, and then light them up with fire and everything I got, and they always manage to come out of it, and then they’re mysteriously ‘better’ in round two and proceed to kill me.

Gotta be something I can do? Any special slot kills or traits that work better in WvW that I should maybe have up?

Not a huge deal, I suppose, as I try not to put myself in a position where I’m alone, but often I’ll come to the ‘rescue’ of someone being chased and rather than turn to fight when they see another green dot on the screen approaching, they just keep going and there I am alone to face Captain Bunker. And I usually take out Captain Bunker, or maybe a Ranger and his pet, then I just can’t seem to finish them quickly when they are down, and they pop back up?

Conversely, when “I’m” down, what are my best abilities to survive alone? I usually just try to use my 2 button and run move closer to other people or guards or something, and sometimes that works, but other than that, I just don’t see to last like they do.

Thanks.

Server Transfers: New Player

If I’m a brand new player, and I create a character on a server, does my transfer clock start on character creation and I have to wait 7 days before my first transfer, or do all new players have an effective ‘whenever’ for the first transfer, and ‘then’ the clock starts before you can do your next transfer?

Server Transfer Question

in Players Helping Players

notebene.3190

Is the 7 days between each transfer, or does the clock start when you create your first character?

In other words, if you transfer to a server, you have to wait 7 days until you can transfer again, I get that.

However, if you are a brand new player, and create a character on a server, do you have to wait 7 days before your ‘first’ transfer, or could you do your first transfer whenever, and ‘then’ the clock starts?

I actually think I might have just recruited 2-4 people to come join our ranks. I wanted to see if I should have them wait until they can get on tomorrow or Monday at an odd time when my server isn’t full, or if it’s safe to just have them create wherever now, and then transfer in a day or two?

Thanks.

Can We Replace Dynamic Events In The Dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

notebene.3190

There are some helpful ideas to help the OP locate some DEs that are easy to accomplish quickly. I happen to be in the camp where DEs aren’t much of a problem. I could just as easily not be in that camp.

Some things are just easier or more enjoyable to do than others, depending on when you play, your play style, lots of factors.

What I wouldn’t mind seeing happen with the dailies and monthlies is to be given a pool of 6-8 things to do, and be asked to accomplish any 4-5 of them to complete it.

Then you have a choice, and while you still might be stuck with one or two you ‘really’ don’t feel like doing, they are at least choices you picked and are the ‘least’ problematic for you.

If that makes any sense.

But nice to see some of the posts offer up some ideas and paths for completing them.

A refresher course for player etiquette

notebene.3190

If I occasionally find myself in over my head I train mobs onto other players, and then play my part in killing them. I’m not sure if its bad etiquette but its my first instinct

Hard to tell how others might react, but if you did this to me, I wouldn’t mind at all. It’s kinda a fun social encounter, whether there is chatting or not (or a simple exchange of ‘thank/welcome’).

And for those not in trouble, but just too busy to be bothered with ‘trash mobs’ on your important schedule, that’s fine, but if you do walk it over me, knowing (as you know) what is bound to happen, at least stop and fight them with that person that will invariably get them, and then move on.

If that doesn’t mess up your “I can make n gold in exactly 45 minutes” algorithms too much.

How often do you get new armor looks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I think a transmutation stone should do two things.

1. What it does now.

2. Create a ‘print’ of the piece of armor you selected as the ‘look’ and stored off (I’m fine with character-based, like dyes) to be used later, on a whim, whenever you want, just like a dye, ‘without’ a transmutation stone, if all you want to do is change the ‘look’ of a piece of armor, leaving the stats and stones on the target item in place.

Seems pretty simple.

I have ‘sometimes’ used transmutation stones to ensure I can move the sigil/rune/stone, whatever they may be called, but mostly all I’m trying to do is apply a look. Often times, it’s the same look I’ve already ‘learned’, so to speak, yet I’m burning stones (and some day money) over and over again just to apply a look, which I already ‘learned’.

I mean, how would you feel if the dye drop rates were reduced to that of the availability of a Fine Transmutation stone, but could still buy them from the gem store, and they were one time uses?

Not so warm and fuzzy.

And yes, I’m struggling with medium armor myself right now. I’m thinking about burning $10 to get the Krytan skin for the chest and legs, though I’m not crazy about all the bones and skulls. Find some ‘small’ leather gloves and boots and just be done with it for now. Everything else that is remote decent you can’t get until you are about 120 (<-hyperbole) or have (raises pinky to lips) one MILLION dollars! (<- more hyperbole)

I’m generally a ‘really’ happy person, honestly. I’ve also been playing my Ranger a bit lately, 33rd level now, and a bit saddened by medium armor.

Though for about 20 minutes (I milked it, because I knew I wasn’t going to get to keep it), I got to look like this for a bit.

It says you can only apply each one per piece, I’m assuming it’s a set of 6 items?

Once you apply the skin to a piece, can you then use transmutation stones to continually ‘move’ the look from piece to piece, just like you would with any other piece of armor?

Faction Armor

in Suggestions

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I’m kinda not liking it.

And yes, I suppose that’s a bit of a whine, but it’s a struggle enough trying to come up with medium armor looks (from my perspective), and one idea I had I can’t do because each piece belongs to a different faction’s set.

To add insult to injury, I picked my faction (like…‘just’…all I did after that was save the Queen) thinking I really wanted the top of Whispers, and have had that intention for my Ranger for quite some time, but then realized that maybe I wanted some, or all, of the Vigil pieces (what I really wanted to do was mix/match the Whispers and Vigil), but now that I’m forced to decide which is more important to me, I think I’d rather be Vigil, but I can’t change.

So…what is the suggestion? I have no idea. Maybe if the medium armor wasn’t so ugly I wouldn’t be so drawn to specific faction pieces? Maybe…have faction specific ‘food’ or something other than armor? Vigil-lonis?

Sorry, feeling a bit entitled today.

Can I change my faction if I just picked it?

in Personal Story

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

Or, ‘pretty’ close to just picking it?

I picked Whispers because there was a nice top that I thought I might want to wear some day. Then I see there are some Vigil pieces that I might want.

I ‘just’ picked Whispers and did the Queen quest. I went to LA, but haven’t advanced the quest there yet. Is there any way to undo that pick and change from Vigil to Whispers?

I suppose I wouldn’t mind re-leveling the character, were it not for all the crafting work I have put in.

I’m having a pretty good time. I mostly WvW with my main, as dungeons don’t really interest me (other than getting my 5, or course). I did do the dungeon at the end to finish my story, and I’m glad I did that. It was a fun enough ending.

Sometimes I’ll go out and farm for materials in zones to help my new Ranger that I’m bring up work on her Leatherworking and Hunstman skills (and at the same time, help my Guardian work on her Weaponsmithing skills so she can make axes and swords and such for my Ranger). The Guardian is only 8, and probably won’t really adventure with her any time soon. The Ranger is 32. And yes, I change my armor and weapons every 5 levels…because I can.

So while I’m out in those areas, I’ll always stop and do any DEs that aren’t terribly far away in the zone. I won’t port around in the zone to ‘answer the call’, only because it’s too expensive and I’m terribly cheap.

So I’m still having fun. I just enjoy being in the world. I wish there were more town clothes. I wish it were easier to change how you look (daily? hourly!?) without it being so cost prohibitive, so I’m a ‘little’ frustrated running around always looking the same.

I’m a ‘tad’ bit worried about talks of GvG activities. Not that those types of mechanics are bad at all! I’m…just not a big guild-y type person, always been a GDI, and I’m a wee bit concerned about what it might mean for me and my enjoying WvW. I guess we’ll see.

I’d like to see more things to do? Maybe some faction things to work on? Maybe every zone could have a few factions that you could work on and they involve, at least partially, helping out with the DEs in the area? Might be a way to spread us back through some of the zones for a bit.

No, I’m not working towards a legendary. I saw a post someone made listing all the materials required and that was just daunting, so I put that on my ‘probably not going to happen’ list.

So yeah, I’m having fun. Could it be better? Sure. Could it have been worse? You bet! Would I like to see more things to do? Uhm…well yeah, who wouldn’t?

Ultimately, I’m just excited to be out without my helmet on.

Assuming you have 100% map completion (I seem to recall getting some along the way for this, at least, I have some and never bought any with gems), is there any other source for these ‘without’ buying gems?

I still get the little chests from time to time, but haven’t gotten a key to open a chest in quite a long time.

Do they drop anywhere, or is the only source via gems, whether you obtain gems using in game gold or real money?

I don’t have an opinion one way or the other or am looking for an opinion on the sources, just factual information as to if they can be obtained in the world without gems (sans getting black lion chest keys, which I don’t seem to get any more either).

Or are gems the only way?

[Holy Cow! Wall of Text!]
I happen to be enjoying the game quite a bit, though I jump back in TSW every so often, but not for long. I’m still drawn to playing this game, even after hitting 80 and getting my map completion. I really like WvW, and I hate PvP. WvW is one of those things like Wintergrasp or maybe getting caught in Darkness Falls during a switch in DAoC (or maybe the 30 battlegrounds, that was fun). It’s a PvP that is pretty much gank-less and impersonal and just, well, fun.

Woops, digressing time, got off track!

I’m still enjoying the game, and I was keeping an eye on the carrot/stick thing as I played, mindful that I might get let down at 80, and I wasn’t. Now, I created my 6 piece Exotic set (I’m a tailor) and made an Exotic staff (Artificer), and should make a wand and focus some day. I haven’t bought any pieces I don’t make for myself yet, so still in 80 blues/greens/yellows there, like jewelry, and the twin knives I occasionally play with.

I’m saving a lot of money for my Ranger, because I know there are at least two pieces of T3 cultural I might want to buy.

So there are still things to shoot for, but it does seem to be missing the big things that many of us are used to. It hasn’t impacted my enjoyment dramatically, but I can ‘totally’ see how it does for some.

[Gimme the Abridged Version]
We may find when all this shakes out that it’s a pretty big deal to more people than we like to think and be one of those dirty little secrets for MMOs. We might like to think, collectively, that it’s something we don’t need or want. We might think it’s one of those big barriers we need to get rid of. Maybe in the end that’s one of the things that needs to stay? Or maybe in another form, something in between what we have now and a typical gated and tiered gear grind?

[TLDR]
I don’t know what the final answer will be. It does ‘seem’ like you are right, and that it might end up being a little more important than we give it credit. It might also shake out that there is an answer to that problem that “isn’t” what ArenaNet (or Funcom even, with TSW) did, yet still isn’t what WoW or some of the older games did, rather something new that fits the need?

As I said, thankfully I’m still having a lot of fun, so I’m not too worried about it. But I wanted to give you some support in your topic for being a nice non-hyperbolic, non-hateful and straight forward submission of a concern for discussion. And that on some level, I agree that it might end up being a problem.

I don’t care much for the dungeons, but I’m going to do my 5. I wasn’t crazy about having to do WvW to work on map completion, but after doing it, it’s now one of my favorite game activities. I figure I’ll give dungeons a fair shake. I’m going to try a different story each time. I’ve done 2, and one was great and the other not so much, but still ended with a positive cash flow.

In the long run, what I’d like to see for the monthly is maybe 6 things to do, and you pick any 3/4 to complete the monthly. That way you can mostly choose what you like, with maybe one “not my favorite”.

On a more serious note, what would be nice is if they came up with a simple ‘hair up’ to show behind hats like that. LotRO did it eventually with their hats, like the wide brim pirate hats and cowboy hats. Originally there, they had this make shift flap to kinda hide that you were bald. And it was quite awhile before we go that.

I attached a screenshot of my old character. See how her hair is just done ‘up’ into the hat? I’d think that’d be the simplest solution.

I’ll be spending $10 in about 20 days and another $10 30 days after that. I hope that will be enough to buy any new outfit for the holidays, assuming they are something I’d be interested in. If they start flooding the market with fun town clothes, I will go broke.

I’m ‘very’ thankful that something that challenging (from a dexterity-push-go-faster perspective) wasn’t part of the meta-achievement, but I think anyone that completed it should have gotten a title for doing so, like the pumpkin carving (which wasn’t part of the meta but granted a title).

Assuming the party isn’t 10 seconds long, I should complete the meta achievement.

I didn’t care for the clock tower, and consider myself lucky that it wasn’t part of the meta. Though, I would not have blamed them if they made it so, and kudos to everyone who was able to do it.

I’m not a big fan of dungeons, so I went inside to get credit for going inside, then died, and left. I did ‘one’ dungeon to finish my story. I doubt I’ll do that again on another character. Just not a fan of dungeons. Other than entering the dungeon, completing it wasn’t part of the meta, so again, I consider myself lucky, and would not have held it against them if they made it part of the meta.

So hopefully I’ll be able to attend the part, and all the other events and such would not have gone to waste. Though I did have a good time.

I didn’t craft anything. Seems like there was always an ingredient that was just too much money or something to make it worth it, so I suppose I’ll throw away all those skulls and fake teeth and candy and such when it’s over.

I actually rather enjoy it, but only having done it as an Elementalist and Ranger, my only experience has been with pretty nice ranged weapons.

Charging to port was an ill conceived idea anyways, free ports means people are more likely to get out and do events. High costs means people are less likely to jump into an announced event.

This always seemed like a good reason to me to reduce drastically or get rid of them. If we also had some sort of system where you could know world wide where events were going on, where people needed help, you might spread the population around more and keep events rolling in some of the lower level zones.

I would have a blast popping around from zone to zone looking to help out with anything in any zone, and alternatively my alts would love for help to show up while leveling. I was all by myself in Kessex with an alt the other day nary another soul at some of the events I was coming across.

I’ve been having a weird problem where I’ll be fine, then zone into an area and dragged down to maybe 10. I have to completely leave the game and log back in again. Sometimes I’ll have to do it 2-3 times before it’s back to normal.

I guess we’ll have a better idea in a week or so how much of it is related to doors and such. It seems to happen to me mostly entering Queensdale, far less in other zones.

I’m curious as to whether it is Halloween related or a possible side effect of another change.

Does the clock tower count towards this? I haven’t done it and I have 3 towards it (I only have 3/4 king locations btw so that will be my 4th)

I had 3/4 up until today as well. I walked into the dungeon by myself and died because I didn’t understand what I was supposed to do, so I left. I accidentally walked into a pumpkin door looking for an event, so I just turned around and left.

I’m not sure which did it, but I’m now 4/4 on that one, though I didn’t do anything special? Although, I actually ‘tried’ the clock tower puzzle on another character and got frustrated and left earlier, so maybe that was it?

I’m not really sure what makes that go, but I eventually got 4/4, and I have ‘not’ done the dungeon or the clock tower.
