Hi Cash
Good on you for trying PvP. As a person who did only PvE for a long time and also jumped into PvP a little, I can understand how frustrating it can be. When you’re out in the world, fighting NPCs, after a while, you learn their “tells” and it really becomes a steamroll no matter what class you play. The NPCs will just stand there while you hit them with everything you have. Not going to happen in PvP.
I understand your frustration about dying a lot. But it is purely a learn to play issue. Not one single person should be just standing there waiting for you to kill them. As others have said, this is a place where you must know exactly how to build your own class to its fullest advantage, while at the same time learning what the other classes can do against you, and what they can do to evade what you’re throwing at them.
There’s no two ways about it. You ARE bad right now. That’s ok. It’s normal. It doesn’t mean you’re bad at everything in the game. You just need more practice. I guarantee that with time, patience, a willingness to learn (and die A LOT), a lot of reading on builds (check our your class meta, as well as the meta for other classes here in the forums), some experimentation… you will improve.
Good luck and have fun with it.
Getting all the materials to actually make the legendary takes far, far, far less time than killing yourself and making you hate the GAME by forcing yourself to grind out 1200g just to get the precursor. They’re not getting any cheaper. I assumed with the wardrobe system that they would increase in price, and it seems that for once I was correct. Add to that the decreased chance of getting one out of the MF (since now you can get sub-80 exotics from even all level 80 forged weapons). Recipe is for higher prices for the foreseeable future.
Go play. Be free of the legendary race. Have fun. There are so many people that don’t give 2 hoots if you have a legendary or not. There are lots of other cool weapon skins in the game. No need to kill your enjoyment for anything.
There’s an easy fix here. Stop trying to get/make a legendary, UNLESS you get a precursor drop. Don’t “save up”. This is a game, gosh darn it. You’re supposed to be having fun, not working.
Play the game, have fun, do what you want. If by chance a precursor drops for you, great, then start your quest. Otherwise, forget it. Why continue to make others “rich” at your expense?
I tried to go a different direction visually with my necro, but I’m back to my profane armor. I just really have a hard time putting together anything else that, to me, says necro/death/cold/scary, especially for female armor. So, I’ve changed the dyes a bit to match the dragon wings a bit better, and changed her mask from acolyte to profane.
she look like Hellraiser
haha.. cool
my work here is done.
My warrior:
Helm, leggings: chainmail
Shoulders, coat, boots: aetherblade
Gloves: commander
Look: Priceless and pretty darn awesome
Ohhh ok I found a super cool/funky/semi-steam-punk look for my awesome warrior, Rose Faron. Mix of aetherblade, chainmail, and commanders gloves.
idk if this is the right place to post this but i always liked the ascended armor skin(minus helm and shoulder piece) in white black or black white but i never had a chance to build my own armor (to expensive wil go for it evetuly if its realy worth it)
but yea im realy nead some picturs of it with an nice dye comboif you got any post them here or mail them to ndgoossen@gmail.com =)
cheers from Master Thief Nika
edit:female if can =)
You can preview all armors now if you go to a banker and look in your wardrobe. Just mouse over any armor piece and right-click, preview.
Just to add that we play this game so as to be entertained. People suggest it somehow an exercise in bravery or “manhood” are off the mark.
If you want bravery look to a person who rushes into a blazing inferno to rescue people caught in the flames. Rushing a toon into battle is not “bravery”
As entertainment , every person has his or her reasons for playing this game. Some want the 1 v 1 duels and the fight to the better end. Some want to roam in zergs and go castle to castle gaining karma and bags. Some want to see how long they can last and how many they can kill without getting killed themselves.
Some like siegeing up towers. Some like flipping camps. Some like the PPT system and some only want to have 5 on 5 fights. Some like all of that and more.
My own preference is fights of about 10 aside as i find them much more dynamic then one on ones but that hardly means I should expect a larger group of 20 that comes upon our group of ten to sit 10 people out.
If a person has to ask “why would you just sit in a tower to man arrow carts and not come out to fight” or “why would you start a 1v1 and then flee when you realize you can not win” then those people are unable to grasp that OTHERS are not here for the same reasons and their own reasons for why they do anything in the game can not be forced upon them.
As long as it not hacking or exploits it should be acceptable.
What makes games such as this successful is they allow people to play “their way”. As soon as that play is restricted , be it these “codes of honor and though must not run away type rules” or “Your build is cheese and should not be allowed” then the game will cater to a ever smaller niche of players and ultimately fail.
Roaming around and coming on a person who flees a battle half way through is preferable to roaming around and finding no body.
Very well said. I find, in general, there are some MMO people that are not really here to have fun like the rest of us. I play this game to relax and enjoy my “off” time. While I love the excitement that WvW brings as opposed to PvE, I’m still there to have FUN first and foremost. If I can learn something and get better at 1v1 or ZvZ at the same time, great. But ya, don’t expect everyone to play by your own set of imagined rules or what you consider to be honorable in a video game.
I really like the dragon’s jade weapons, so decided to get a few for my thief, Rose. To try to match the colors a bit, I changed up the color of her armor. Here’s her new look.
I tried to go a different direction visually with my necro, but I’m back to my profane armor. I just really have a hard time putting together anything else that, to me, says necro/death/cold/scary, especially for female armor. To clarify on my own comment on not playing if this happened to me, I’m not talking about 1 time, waaaa, poor me. I’m talking about, if I go WvW and every time I go this is happening, then, YES, I would stop playing. If there’s no enjoyment, there’s no point to playing. Cheaters, if left unchecked, will ruin enjoyment, and then you will see people stop playing.
Well I’m in silver league and I can tell you that there, regardless of enemy zerg size, skill and organization win most times. I have been in small groups (7-15 of us) taking on 30, and we win most times. I have been defending SMC with 15 people, where the attackers came with probably 35-40, including 10 golems, and we crushed them. Good commanders, good guild groups, make a huge difference in my league.
As for roaming, I think that’s more of a learn to know where to be, what to look for. Also, if you can PvP you have a much better chance of survival. I don’t PvP, so the only 1v1s I win are against players like me… bad ones LOL. However, I do try so that I can hopefully learn and improve. If you get caught alone by a group or zerg, well, hopefully you have spec’d for some getaway mechanic (stealth, blink, rush, swiftness, etc), or you’re toast.
Can someone please post a good build for P/D thief for WvW roaming? I need all the help I can get
Well I don’t really care what anyone else believes; I believe that if you cheat, you aren’t “winning” anything. This is not about crying or being frustrated at dying. I die in WvW a lot, since our side is almost always outnumbered, but that has never bothered me. I may even foolishly attack another player in a 1v1 fight, and die; sometimes 3 or 4 times to the same person. Doesn’t phase me at all. However, not being given the opportunity to actually fight someone who is killing you due to a cheating mechanism…. would make me not enjoy the game. The day that happens, I would stop playing. I also agree that while this may not be a serious issue yet (serious meaning it’s happening all over the place), if it were to become so, it would break WvW for most people. ANet really does need to address the problem and fix it.
Wow. That would be so frustrating! I would probably stop playing if it happened to me. So why does the company NEVER publicly address this isdue? I have seen so many posts about this hack. C’mon ANet. Time for some acknowledgement and tell us what you’re doing to fix it!!!
Check out the sticky above by Spoj. I can attest to the strength and fun of his build. I have solo’d champs with it. I highly recommend to give it a try
WvW means challenges and the feeling of victory…something i never felt playing PvE. Unfortunately I’m not much for PvP due to a nerve problem but I feel I can really contribute in WvW nonetheless.
I just don’t know if WvW is the place for a formal duel anyway because random roamers can come by at any time and intervene thinking they’re simply helping a fellow player. Seems there is a specific area where people CAN duel so just go there. I agree if your opponent runs you are obviously the winner, regardless of how unsatisfying the result may be.

You should check out Ascii’s wellomancer build. I use it (mostly; I don’t have all ascended, etc) in WvW for zergs especially. If our zerg meets up with the opposing team zerg, I like to be close to the front at the start, and hit plague, running straight through the enemy zerg, to split them up. If my health is good, I run back and head to the back of my own zerg, or to a flank, and start hitting all my wells and staff AoE attacks. If someone gets in melee range I’ll switch to axe/warhorn and/or deathshroud. With this type of play I’m often one of the last ones standing. I find this super fun and not too frustrating.
You can use your staff to mark walls and doors, too, which is often very helpful, or stand on a wall and put marks/wells in front of a door you’re defending – though you have to be super careful because you can get pulled down to the ground doing this.
Well I’m not a PvP’er, and I have a nerve problem so I have a hard time controlling my mouse and keyboard when I have any kind of adrenaline going. I play a necro typically and usually run with a zerg BUT have tried to solo roam a bit. Here’s what happens:
If I engage someone on my own, I stay until I die, which is usually the way it goes down… (I hate you engis!!).
If I am just trying to camp a sentry or a ruin, and someone comes at me, I try to run, but always die because.. I’m a necro and getting away is not our strong suit.
I would support an improvement like this very much.
A lot of WvW. When i need a break from that i use Spoj’s power build to do map completion (at 93% now!). My necro was the first character i ever made and i love her to bits.
ETA: i use a variant of Ascii’s well build for WvW.
I decided to change up Rose’s WvW armor thanks to the new wardrobe and dye system. Armor is a mix of incarnate and profane skins, with illustrious breeches.
My necro, Rose Dalila Ranae in her WvW armor:
Helm: Profane Mask
Shoulders: Incarnate Mantle
Coat: Incarnate Vest
Gloves: Incarnate Gloves
Leggings: Illustrious Breeches
Boots: Incarnate Boots
Colors used: midnight blue, illumination, midnight fire, silver and sincerity
To the OP, I like your well-thought-out synopsis and opinions.
So here’s how the feature pack affected me personally:
1. I no longer do world boss train because megaserver and different timing killed that on my server, and I would be mad in about 10 seconds to WP to Mrs. Boss and run my heart out to get to Mrs. Boss only to see it already dead from the other 200 people who showed up and ran faster.
2. Lack of community feeling. Hate it. I hate how densely packed Divinity’s Reach has become. I feel a stranger in my own land.
3. I do like that map completion is easier. I am completing Orr on my necro and it’s truly a delight to do the events and actually have a chance to survive an encounter with a champ or vet.
4. Love account bound dyes. I had always held off getting those 200g dyes because they were sould-bound. Now I will save up and buy a few.
5. I like the wardrobe but wish I didn’t have to go to a bank to try on stuff conveniently.
6. I don’t mind the transmute charge. Honestly, ya, I had 115 stones sitting in my bank doing nothing since I have 5 x level 80s.
7. Speaking of level 80s; being a casual player, I spent 100g or so on unlocking the grandmaster traits for all my characters. That sucked. Hard.
8. Account bound WxP is awesome.
9. Not happy about less choice for dailies. I never miss the daily. Ever. I liked having lots of choice so I could do what I actually wanted. Now I don’t have that so it feels like more of a chore. REALLY want this to revert back.
10. No repair costs. Great, because I WvW a lot and I’m not on BG so I get killed often.
11. Nerf of Frostgorge champ train. I hate this also. This was the one thing other than WvW that I enjoyed doing most in the game. It was my fun, chatting, relaxing, have a coffee time on weekend mornings. I made decent gold to buy all my shinies. It made me HAPPY. Now, no happy. I always avoid QD train because it’s just stupid. Only do it when I have to get events + kill a champ.
I don’t PvP, so can’t comment on those changes. I haven’t even had a chance to play with any builds with new rune/sigil changes so can’t comment on that either.
Sorry for wall of text.
Mystic is correct about the transmute being free on first use for gem store armors.
Don’t forget that you can still have an actual second set of armor, so you can still change equipment without incurring a transmute charge.
Rewards in this game are truly atrocious. I understand. Gems to gold. That’s what it’s all about for this company.
But it makes your game tedious and boring and frustrating. Just sayin’.
What fun would it be to get some interesting loot? It would even be cool to get actual “cash” from mobs, so you can see your bank slowly increase. But no. Nope. Nada. Same boring, useless stuff over and over and over.
At this point, I dont’ think the company gives two hoots what we would actually enjoy. Grind away friends, grind away.
Congats! I don’t like many of the legendary skins but the underwater ones are totally cool.
I think the OP has a great idea. Honestly I hate the tons of clicking for luck. I salvage pretty much everything. I can’t even imagine how many clicks I’ve used on using luck! And I can’t think of any reason why this should not be implemented.
11 characters, 2 MCs, deleted my gifts of exp since none of the Legendaries as much as raises an eyebrow with me.
Meh, I don’t really like the current legendaries either, but I still keep my gifts because you never know when they might release new skins. Can’t get them back once deleted. I have one gift of exploration and one gift of battle and many obsidian shards just sitting in my bank and waiting…….
I’m curious about whether or not traveller runes are a good set also. I have a set in my bank, and I can’t decide whether to sell or use them on my thief. She is for WvW roaming. I still need to choose her weapon set since the patch. Any ideas on that?? My poor thief is just lollygagging around DR waiting for something to do.
I would check https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/balanaced-d-d-build/page/2#post3940560 ; here is the D/D thief discussed as proposed by Omri.
Depends on what weaponset you like tho. Whatever you go for, stay away from P/D Condition-spec, hehehe. It’s just cheap IMO.
I personally think that travelers isn’t as appealing as it was, unfortunatly. Sell it at TP before the price drops :P It could always change back, but I don’t think that will happen in the near future.
Thanks mompen. I appreciate the help.

Bravo again for ruining Orr, it is bad enough you have removed enemies in there, nerfed events into the ground, nerfed loot into the ground, now we have no way of telling if a temple is truly contested without WPing to Orr to check, then WP back, ( double hit cost, id rather you put armor repair costs back and removed WP costs seeing as we have NO CHOICE but to WP twice in every map in the game now ) or better yet, please send the Dev who made that decision to post in here explaining how they thought this was a great idea?
Mega server has now officially ruined this game for me, good job.
Ya, what’s up with that? I was in DR this morning and had a half hour to play so thought I’d do a little map completion in Orr. Using “M” from DR, it looks like the area I need to map is all contested, Balth temple closed, so I WP to a mid-point region. I get to the actual map, and the temple is open. I do not understand this system.
5 level 80 characters.
Map completion on one…warrior.
90% on necro.
less than 10% on each of the others but they were made for wvw…thief. guardian. Mesmer.
ETA: I will never get completion on any of my wvw characters because the thought of doing the heart quests again literally hurts me. The only reason I’m completing on my necro is because all I have left is a couple of race cities and Orr, plus a few points in wvw. No hearts.

I feel this is the wrong direction for this game. I’ve seen a lot of feedback on ESO, which uses the megaserver also. Nothing good has been said. I also don’t see how this is going to work. Guilds are not put together for missions. I agree with a poster elsewhere on the forum that said that having many servers in one area breaks things for WvW, as people often gather in the hubs before reset. Yes, everything is full, but these people are not “my” people. I also think that having too many people doing anything destroys opportunities for many to get any reward, since bosses and even mobs just get burned down way too fast.
Overall, I the only good thing I’ve seen or heard about the megaserver that is maps that previously felt unpopulated now seem more alive. But at what cost? I feel the cost is simply too high, and I’m hoping there is another alternative, and that ANet will roll things back to the way they were.
On a personal note, my guild used to run the world boss train at reset. This got everyone on our server together for events every single day. Now, that does not happen. This is not bringing the community together. It’s actually doing the exact opposite.
There is an option to join one another. Right click the person’s name in your party and click “join in (enter zone name here)”. It worked just fine for me yesterday. Though I did experience the same issue at FE and that’s just because I had to run off and I got there too late and got on an empty(ish) server.
That doesn’t usually work for me. I almost always have to use the tool at the top of the screen, and type in the person’s name and then sometimes it lets me have the option to join. Sometimes not.
In PvE… absolutely not worth it. I have never made (or received a drop of) an ascended weapon. I do just fine in every mode, even WvW. However, I think that for fractals you would need it all. I have made ascended armor for my thief, which is strictly for WvW, only because thieves are notorious for being very squishy.
Regardless of all the crying, PvE is still a faceroll with exotics. Seriously. Faceroll. If you can’t hack PvE with exotics, you need to learn to dodge and fight.
Hmmmm ya, the spring tournament goes to May 30th, so you have plenty of time.
I play maybe 1 hour per night and maybe 3 hours on Sundays, and I’ve gotten 8/10 of the achievements, having never stepped foot in EotM. You should not have any problems to get the meta.
ETA: Season 1 really WAS undo-able for casuals. I feel that ANet hit a good balance this time. The meta is definately attainable even for us casual players.
The Hipster Guardian
Hah! That’s awesome. She looks like she will kick your kitten then go to starbucks and have a latte and read a book.
Thanks to a total makeover kit and the new wardrobe system, Rose Boleyn feels very stylin’. I played her for a couple hours in WvW today and she had a blast. I think she survives better than my necro!
Well Rose really wanted a new armor to go with her new hairstyle… so…
Mix of scale or banded (?) and the new gem store heavy armor and phalanx boots.
10/10 for Everest Kaine. I really like it. I agree it flows very well, and I really like your reason for choosing Everest. I also like that it’s not a usual type of name but I can still relate it to the human race.
I’ve re-named some of my lovely human ladies and made a few new ones.
Warrior: Rose Faron
Thief: Rose Aimee Crouzet
Necro: Rose Dalila Ranae
Guardian: Rose Celeste Frost
Mesmer: Rose Boleyn
I like French/English/noble-type names. I wanted Rose in all of them. My necro was originally Dalila Darkness and she was my first ever character so I didn’t want to lose the Dalila name. Ranae means “resurrected” in French, which I thought very fitting for a necro. My warrior used to be named Rose Evilslayer, but I’ve matured (in relation to GW2) since I made her
Meh, I can’t figure how how to get an image to show. Why can’t this have some simple buttons to push to insert images and such. /sadface

The fgs train, in my opinion, got better. Fish, Norn and kodan got grouped up in 1 event in which you get a bonus chest for killing all 3 in the time limit. You still get the champ boxes for all 3 as well. The timer on the event seems to be just about right to run the rest of the train a second time before it pops. So the order that worked for a group of about 10 tonight was:
Triple threat (fish, Norn and kodan)
Wurm
Drake (and quaggan if up)
Troll
Wurm
Drake (and quaggan if up)
Troll
Triple threatThe focus should be on making sure to get a decent jump on the triple threat timer. The bonus chest is, well, a bonus. So if you run the 2 circuits and triple threat hasn’t started, hang out at fish and work on your inventory for a minute so you don’t lose a lot of your time on a third run.
You can also include the Giant Ooze between Drake and Troll, especially if a mesmer portals the group.
I also just followed a champ train in Cursed Shore which had great loot from many champions and mobs.
FGS champ train would be a more laid back and safe one, and the Cursed Shore one is much more dynamic with no downtime and you actually see people dieing around you.
What server is the Orr train being run on? Is there a map for WPs and such?

Since all of them are now events, it seems to me that anet is trying to get higher level toons to spend more time in higher level areas by rewarding the FGS train.
I do not take responsibility if the timers are changed. Just wanted to give info on how it worked for a relatively small group tonight.
Is this done on BG?
Yes

PVP actually is not difficult at all. Its just finding a game that is not full elitist jerks that is difficult. Check the PVP browser list to see if someone created a “Dailies Only” game.
Im only rank 14 in PVP and considered very casual and so far I have not come across too many bullies.
Thanks for that tip on looking for dailies only groups. I may try that. Would be a good way to finally jump into PvP.
