For WvW, the main thing is to not wait until the last minute to go get those POIs, vistas and skill points. If you wait until the very last, and it’s all you have left, you will get very frustrated, as you’re not ever going to be able to just run around in one day and get them.
Probably good advice, but that ship has already sailed for me as I didn’t discover I would be forced to visit WvW until I already completed the PvE world.
I just can’t understand the mindset of trying to force players that like PvP to do PvE and vice-versa. For every person who may come away with a `that wasn’t as horrible as I thought` experience, far more are just going to be frustrated and annoyed.
What I remember of a developer post at some point was that the whole purpose of including WvW for world completion is that they want you to try WvW and hope you will like it and keep going back.
That being said, ANet more and more is forcing everyone to play “their way” instead of how they like. Hopefully this trend discontinues at some point.
However, their plan for WvW worked on me, because once I tried it, I loved it.
Yes, I think we all have this problem. Been brought up times before. Would be nice to see it addressed.
Hey congrats on finishing! I need to do this also, as I have 2 level 80s, both with world completion, and over 1800 hours played – and still at level 73 of the PS for both. Thanks to your post, I think I’ll make this a goal for this week! I’m hoping that a few guildmates will be willing to help me out in Arah, but if not I will use the LFG tool.
To add:
Keep in mind that the Order of Whispers POI does not show up on the map at all until you’ve been there. So, if you mouse over the map it will show that you have all POIs, even though you may not have that one.
For WvW, the main thing is to not wait until the last minute to go get those POIs, vistas and skill points. If you wait until the very last, and it’s all you have left, you will get very frustrated, as you’re not ever going to be able to just run around in one day and get them. Go to the WvW maps as soon as possible and get everything you can. Check back every few days and especially after Friday reset. Run with the zerg to get POIs. Don’t expect anyone to wait for you if you have to stop for a vista or skill point. Instead, get the vista/SP and then waypoint back to the starting area or just try to catch up. At least if you get caught in the open and die, you won’t have to pay repair fees! And don’t cry if you die. It happens to everyone and is part of being in a PvP area. You could even learn a few things along the way!
For me, I use dagger in PvE and axe in WvW, strictly for the extra range. If I get face to face with a true melee class in WvW I will not last. I have to stay on flank or mid-to-back line, and axe gives me the opportunity to still hit enemies from there.
I think we’re really strong underwater. I never have any issues unless I’m extremely outnumbered. I believe my necro is more powerful than my warrior in water combat.
Well spoj has a guide that is stickied at the top of this sub-forum for a power necro. Also, here is Ascii’s wellomancer build thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Ascii-s-WvW-Wellomancer-Build/first
You can try those out. I personally don’t roam solo with my necro so can’t say what might work for that. You might be best served by trying some builds in PvP, since it’s free to use any stat armor and weapons there.
I can attest to the fact that spoj’s build is great for PvE and Ascii’s build is great for team play in WvW.
I just don’t know if you’re going to find a “one build suits all play styles” kind of build. You want different utilities and skills depending on whether you’re in a group or alone.
I’m really thinking the OP’s statement should have just read “zerg dumb because I think it’s dumb and ur all badz.. l2p noobz”. Because I get that out of every post. I dunno… maybe it’s just me… reading the constant insults…..
This is WvW, not PvP. You don’t do your server any favors by dying. You do it favors by surviving. Running is just part of WvW. Sure, I prefer a good fight. But if our group of 8 or 10 runs into 30 and it looks like we’ll get crushed (not always the case – we’ve beaten those odds many times), it’s better to WP and go cap something while the zerg is busy wondering where we went :p
Nobody is criticizing people for running. They are criticizing the fact that the game makes it so easy to run in the first place.
But the whole point is that fighting in 1v4 or whatever is not the objective of WvW. If you get “frustrated” by people running away, then this is not the right arena. The OP would be better off to go sPvP. There, the objectives would more suit what he’s looking for. People who WvW do make builds specifically for escaping, mobility, resetting fights. And that’s fine, because the purpose is to gain points for your side, not die in a 1v4.
Thanks for posting this! I really want to use my warrior in WvW but can’t for he life of me get used to using the meta hammer build. I’m going to give this a shot and see if it’s more my style!
Alright. I’ve found out max stat gear can be purchased in home world of wvw from the armor merchant.
I just need to figure out a build I like.
I’m looking for the most general WvW / EOTM builds, focused more around solo play then group play. I would like to try the top POWER build and the top CONDITION build. As well what gear to use with it.
Do you want to roam alone then looking for duels or do you want a build you can use while running with a large group? EotM is not even considered WvW at this point since there are no PvP or group/group battles. Actual WvW will require you to use a different build than running with the EotM karma train. Which weapons do you want to use and/or what is your preferred playstyle (melee or ranged)?
Thanks for all the good advice everyone! Here’s what I did with my build. I’ll look at changing out some of my trinkets (replacing the cavalier ones) over time. Right now I’m working on making an ascended backpiece. I’m sure it’ll be quite an upgrade from rare! I’ll play in WvW for a while and let you know how it goes.
Well Rose has gone through a lot, including a sex change (and back) and various looks, but she is now back to her good old self and looking better than ever. She’s a lady of death and so doesn’t tan. Her smooth pale skin glows in the moonlight.
Necros have enough “oh kitten” buttons that we can easily go zerker and still survive. Positioning will almost always be what dictates your survival; However, I want to mention that with these zerker builds running Plague isn’t as useful because it forces you into the center of the fight to be useful where you will likely not last long.
I see your point. Which elite would be best to replace plague in your opinion?
This is what I use in t1 zerg fights lately. It may appear glassy but with proper positioning it is not. Just make sure and ask to be in the melee group with guards/wars for their stability.
Basically wells and ranged pressure on melee ball and picking backliners off with hard hitting lifeblasts when wells on cd. Only on pin for transitions and plague. Just flank the melee ball.I’m actually using runes of strength but hoelbrek is good too.
Thanks for the build suggestion. Seems kind of similar to mine, but I wouldn’t mind trying the strength or hoelbrek runes. Thanks for the advice also on positioning. I think that’s pretty much what I’m doing unless I get lost in the crowd :p
Switch “Near to death” to “Unyielding Blast”, and “Spiteful Spirit” to “Reapers Might”.
You will become a cannon when camping DS like NeXeD suggested. 3k-4k crits wont be uncommon, and you’ll feel just as powerful in DS as you are out of it.
Preacher
Thanks Preacher. I forgot to change this out tonight but I’ll do it tomorrow.
Use DS early and often, if you have a full ds bar after you’ve dropped all your marks and wells and plague you better be camping ds until your wells are back up. It’s better to lose your LF from the hammer train than your ho.
Thanks for the advice! I was in WvW tonight and I did think to use my DS more. Worked well. It helped especially since we were greatly outnumbered all night
Well i do kill lots of champs also. When the old Frostgorge train was running i was there. Now i do events and temples in Orr. Since the megaserver rolled out i’ve gotten TWO exotics. I play daily. My magic find is a base of 188 plus i use foods and boosters and banners. I sure would love to see anything other than green garbage for a change.
Wow. This really does make me think i should delete my whole account and start a new one that maybe gets the LUCK ROLL. I’m angry, frustrated and thinking the developers should have a better reward system.

I have to stop reading this thread because it makes me extremely angry at the stupid RNG in this game. If it’s not broken… then I don’t know what broken is. One person gets 1 exo per HOUR. Others get them all the time too; one per day, several per week. Yet here I am, as are many others, barely ever seeing one in a month. And I kill mobs. Tons. High level. And do WvW. This is just … anger-inducing.
Here is the Fabulous Ms Rachel Rochelle! I also have her as a Thief and a Guardian Too but I was too Lazy to Get More Pictures :P
I love this! Very cute.
Hi all,
I’ve been playing necro for a long time and I love it to bits. I really love taking her into WvW and helping my guildmates. I started out using Ascii’s wellomancer build, or at least close to it. Then I incorporated some power aspects from spoj’s PvE guide, usually just switching out my armor (full zerk for PvE with scholar runes, knight’s for WvW with melandru runes) and my elite skill (flesh golem to plague).
Anyway, it’s been a long time and I know a lot has changed. I’m posting my current WvW build and would like some suggestions on how to make it better. Maybe it’s a complete mess… I don’t know. I feel like I do ok with it, but I’m sure it could be better.
I don’t solo roam. I am with a group, but sometimes (read, usually) that group is quite small – 10 people-ish. Sometimes I run with a bigger zerg in EB.
How I’ve used the build I have: pop plague and run through enemy zerg and back again, using blind. Then stay at flank or back line or tail commander and hit wells and marks. If I cut someone off I switch to axe/warhorn and get closer to melee range, using cripple, daze, etc. Also use DS quite a bit, but usually wait until my health is down.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Ya, abyss doesn’t always look super black. For instance, I have the gem store profane armor, and I have not found one thing that actually looks black on that, and I have tried everything I can think of, including abyss and black.
I love how the options op presents are negative.
Also love people saying how they rather get killed a lot and have “fun” as if thats any true, and lastly I love the remarks of some people on how they roam solo to duel.Guess what, as far as WvW is concerned, thats very useless, second only to afk on WP.
Not to mention you’ll almost always gonna find yourself outnumbered.WvW is won by either joining the big group, or supporting the big group with supplies, building/refreshing siege, snipe dolly/camps, scout and report the enemy zerg location, etc.
Roaming around looking for duels adds nothing, those 5 stomps you might pull out an hour are neglectable.
Right now is not so bad because of the low % of players, but when you have 100+ queue…So for those that do solo duel you may get off your high horse of delusional superior skill, if anything engaging multiple targets in a big fight can be much more demanding since there’s A LOT more going on.
Even the times I spend an hour siegeing up say Bay ALONE are more productive for the server than duels.
Well put and perfectly true. +1.
This would never happen because the ENTIRE reason you are forced to complete WvW maps for world completion is that the game developrs want you to TRY WvW and they’re hoping that you will like it and keep going back. I have seen a developer post this but can’t give you a link because search has never worked.
Plus this is just not a good idea and ya grow up and grow a pair and go die a few times… it won’t kill you in real life. This ain’t the Matrix. I could go for the chicken idea maybe LOL…but srsly….no.
1,890 hours over 664 days.
However, I bought the game and tried it and didn’t know what I was doing, so then stopped playing for many many months. I finally started reading forums and so on to learn how to play and how to make builds and then I started really playing. Now, my husband wishes I’d never heard of this game >.<
In a week? Without exaggeration, I probably get one a month if that. Drop rates are terrible for me and magic find is a complete hoax.
We are so the same. Ditto here.
Edit: i typically play 1-2 hours a night either in Cursed Shore or WvW .. and about 4 hours each Saturday and Sunday. Base MF is 189%.

Mix n’ matched. I like it…for now.
I love this look. Can you tell us what armor you’re using?
IndigoSundown nailed it IMO. The thing is there is a spectrum of people that play, so I think trying to categorize players as either “hard core” or “casual” mostly doesn’t work, and again, time plays a huge role for MMO players.
An example: WvW Season 1 meta achievement. For me, all the achievements were do-able, but I could not complete them because the number of kills/whatever were set so high that my gaming time did not allow me to complete it (color me casual!). Other players (you hard-cores, you!!) had the meta in one day simply because they had the time to invest. Does that make them better players than me? Of course, they complained the meta was too easy because they devoured it post haste.
They were saying the meta was “too easy”, while I was (thinking) it was “too hard” only because of time, not content.
I think the OP realizes that the word casual is tossed around like a bad word. Casuals are thought of as useless “1 spammers” that do not even desire anything challenging. I believe he’s just frustrated with the intonation of the word, as are many others. However, as this thread proves, most can’t even agree on who is a casual and who is “elite”, or hard-core.
I think it depends on what you consider “casual”. I consider myself a casual player only because of time commited to the game. I work full time and have a husband and grown kids. I usually can’t play more than 1-1.5 hours per night – some nights not at all – and maybe 4 hours per day on the weekend. That doesn’t mean I don’t like tougher content. I love WvW and being challenged, but at the same time don’t have hours to spend waiting just to try to get in to kill Teq or 3 headed wurm, so do not participate in that “hard” content.
I often don’t do the LS because it’s just too time consuming, so I am also happy it can be done anytime now.
I don’t know why some people believe “casual” = I only want to spam 1. I personally couldn’t think of anything more boring and tedious. The only time I do that kind of thing is if I have to jump in the champ train to get some gold; though thankfully I don’t even do that now thanks to nerfs. Anyway, just because I’m not top of the leaderboards or on esport PvP, doesn’t mean I don’t like a challenge.
RuneCrimson you may want to do some forum reasearch on builds specific to WvW for your specific class. Also when people say berserker gear they’re talking about the stats of armor and weapons. For knowledge of that it’s best to look on the wiki.
As other posters have said most times it’s just a waiting game. I know it’s frustrating but you really have to just get what you can when you can. Just acknowledge it will take longer than you anticipated.
Meh, I also missed the vendor. I had to go out of town on short notice, so… ah well, hopefully I can use my tokens next year. Just kind of stinks that I need to use bank space for them rather than have them in my wallet…. eh… ANet… eh???
I have those 2 which i really like on my guardian
Wow, that last pic looks terrifying. You’re making me want to copy your armor for my warrior. Nice work!
Not at home to check at the moment but a lot. I once died 4 times in a row to the same engineer in a 1v1. I just kept respawning and running back to certain doom. I also would rather run head first into the enemy than run away. As with Kanebrake, I main a necro in WvW so once I’m in it, I’m in it to the end.
No, you’re not alone OP. I can’t remember my rank at the moment but I’ve never gotten anything beyond a rare in my rank up chests. I can’t even look forward to them anymore because they’re always just disappointing. Blah.
Personally, if you’re looking to speed run dungeons you should use the meta build and learn how to use it to best advantage. If you’re simply map completing and roaming around PvE-land, use whatever you like, because once you know how the mobs work, it’s a faceroll no matter what; however you should lean to damage rather than conditions. While I was levelling I used a Valkyrie armor with berserker weapons, until I learned what I was doing. My main weapons were axe/mace and rifle. Now, I run full berserker and I’m comfortable using any weapons (currently using GS and axe/mace). The only one I would really not recommend for PvE is hammer. That is best used in WvW and/or PvP.
Have fun with your warrior! I love mine to bits.
hire a few tough lookin mercenaries to safely escort you. just don’t fall in love… it never ends well with mercenaries…
LOL… thanks for that. Best post I’ve seen today
@Markus I was told thats how people got them…I was told to follow a zerg to get them so I assumed that meant they would help me. But guess I was lied to like always since I been in the game.
@Assassin Not spending money to transfer servers just to get map completion thats insane.
But no one has lied to you. You can get the POIs by following the commander. He or she will take you to many towers, keeps and camps. However, for the vistas and skill points, you will have to realize that you’ll get left behind. Once you’ve done one, you can simply waypoint to the starting area and catch up with the zerg again when you get a chance.
As somone else pointed out, this is not going to be something you do in one day. I WvW all the time with my necro and I’m still missting 2 vistas and 2 skill points in one of the borderlands. However, I’m not really trying for them, either, so I’ll bide my time and get them when I can.
Relax and be patient. Finding a good WvW guild would be good. You will probably make some new friends and they can help you learn the ropes in WvW. Also, do as others suggested and grab yourself one set of PTV gear and make sure to use some minus condition food. If you have some armor/strength boosters/speed boosters, those will also help.
I find the biggest mistake players make in this regard is leaving WvW for the very last, at which point they become frustrated because no, it’s not a walk in the park, just run here and there and done kind of task to get all the stuff you need here.
Good luck! You will do it. Just give it time.
Is anyone even listening at anet? Seriously. Argument after argument is laid out for you and yet nothing. It is CLEAR this was a bad decision. Just deal with the failure. Please fix it.
Scratch that. All i want for my birthday is for anet to listen to the players and reverse the kittenykitten new trait system. Thank you.
give me an exp scroll that gives me 80 levels instead of 20 please
Or at least give us simply 20 of those new level-up scrolls, so that we can even use it on 80 chars for skillpoints, instead that 1-20 scrolls
Yes please. Leveling now bites the kitten big time in this game.
It’s NOT his computer. Since the last update i’ve disconnected so many times i just gave up trying to play. ANet has an issue they need to fix. OP your situation stinks and is entirely unfair.
First mix-n-match in Dry Top?
Aetherblade goggles
Deathly shoulders
Feathered chest
Fused gauntlets
Tactical leggings
Forgeman’s shoesdid you just mix medium and light armor together? how do you do that?
It’s all light.
BumbleBee, I think you’ve “verbalized” what I’ve been feeling. I don’t dislike GW2. In fact, I have loved it. I’ve played nearly 2000 hours, so make of that what you will. I love my 3 characters. But, maybe I just need a break or something. My ladies look exactly how I like them. There is nothing more for me to “shop for”, and at the heart of it, that’s what this game is about. Shopping on the TP or the BL store.
I was into WvW for a while because it provided some interesting times, but that has gotten stale also.
I anxiously awaited the new map/LS but am severely disappointed with both so far. I personally hate jumping. So I finally get to replay content… but I don’t even want to do it once, let alone 3 times.
I detest the new trait system. The megaserver made Orr more enjoyable but utterly destroyed the sense of community I had with my server. Even if I wanted to torture myself to make a new alt, I know it would take me forever to grind out enough gold to make it how I want it since the developers have nixed every way of making gold except TP flipping, which I find worse than a job. And I’m like you. I have probably spent close to $1000 on gems because I wanted to keep this game alive and fun. But then, lack of responsiveness from ANet on glaring issues (trait system, WvW, to name but 2) has left me feeling like they “talk” alot but don’t “walk” much. Seems like even when they give you one thing that’s “ok”, they take away 5 things that were really good, then slam the door in your face or close the window on you.
Anyway, I can’t say I’m quitting either, but I sure don’t feel like logging in anymore. Even the dailies aren’t enough incentive. This game is beautiful. But after so much time and not much real interesting stuff added, it’s simply just too boring. This is my first MMORPG, so I’m not sure how long it should hold my attention. I’m sure I have gotten my money’s worth though.
Sorry for the wall of text. TL;DR version: I feel like the OP.

Great pic there! Well done
This is a good questions, the answer to which only ANet can respond. So… I reiterate the question to ANet. Why?
Not every human female thief has the underboob. Personally, that is the one outfit I will avoid (like the plague) as I find it completely trashy looking. Also, the hair with the flower is so completely overused that I can’t stand it. I don’t like the new ninja armor at all. Here is my thief. She has braided hair under her “motorcycle helmet”.
You don’t need to play the TP to make gold in the game, but you do need to use the TP (as in, don’t sell anything to the NPC vendors – sell everything possible on the TP). Personally, the only things I do now are WvW and events in Orr. I salvage and sell everything, except rares or exotics, which I simply sell on the TP since the rate of getting ectos out of those is abysmal. You could also do the Frostgorge Sound champ train.
Some people who have thousands of gold made and sold legendaries or got lucky with precursor drops or bought the special BL weapon skins and then sat on them until they went up in price, or yes, many people play TP Wars. Heck, I’m sure some get out the credit card and buy gems to convert to gold.
Do what makes you happy and enjoy playing the game. That’s what matters most.
