I think you answered your own “question”…

“Of course buying these is a way and also crafting…”

Of course if you haven’t enough gold for this, you can buy gems to trade for gold. Voila!!! Problem solved for you, and ANet makes money!!! Welcome to GW2.

Well I wasn’t going to post in this thread but seeing as how there are actually some constructive things being said, I think I will do so.

I understand what the OP is saying and agree with most of it.

Personally, I have not logged in for a couple days, which for me… is really saying something. Why? Because I’m pretty sick of the grind and knowing I will never get anything cool as a drop. I’ve played for almost 2k hours, so part of my issue is boredom, but part of it is that even when these events come around, I never get any cool loot out of it. Same old garbage is all I get. Spikes, greens, blah blah blah. Since pretty much all ways of making gold in game are now kaput, I can’t even buy anything cool. I’m tired of pulling out my credit card for cool stuff. So, my credit card is sheathed. Whether or not I play here and there, I’m done supporting a developer that does nothing but suck the actual fun out of the game and give no cool content and no sure way to get cool stuff, regardless of whether you do an event 5000 times – I’m still not getting anything fun out of it.

ETA: I’m also tired of the TP monopolies and strangleholds going on. And no, I don’t even want to play the TP in my game. I’m an accountant in real life. I want to escape numbers when in my spare time, thankyouverymuch.

More variety in armor is long overdue. In all classes, all races. And not just gem store stuff. I have to admit though that some of the gem store medium armors are pretty awesome. However, there is little variety all around. In a game that states end game is really asthetic, it’s not measuring up.

We’re talking costume parts here, that’s all. I really don’t care when or how you got something, what I care about is what I think when I see you. Is it “that looks totally bad-kitten”, or “that idiot has no sense of style”.

If I see you charging into battle with the gasmask, molten gloves, jetpack, and The Moot, I’m going to think you’re a total idiot. Wearing trophies is pointless if you wind up looking like you covered yourself in Crazy Glue and then rolled around in a junkyard to dress yourself. By the same token, getting an item that really builds a look is great, and I don’t really care how you get it.

So… yeah. More costume options, less limitations on how you get them. I like seeing characters that look awesome, however they manage to go about it.

I could not agree more! Exactly how I view “looks” in this game.

At this point, yes I’m having a hard time logging in, and even when I do, I get my dailies and leave. ANet has nerfed everything to oblivion, and recycled LS “content”… now with kitten garbage “maybe you might get a green item wooo” loot. I liked the gem shop at first. Now that I’m being shoved into it like coal into a burning furnace, I’m starting to really hate it.

Do you want us not to farm champs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

People fail to realize that dungeons aren’t for everyone. I don’t use TS. I can’t be glued to my computer, so I don’t do dungeons because I don’t want to be the kitten that has to quit part way through. So, I’m left with ways to make gold that are through “regular” PvE content or WvW. Aaaand… there’s just not much to be made, although for sure Cursed Shore is better than WvW at this point due to megaserver and constant events and champ spawns. Do I look forward to any of the loot I get? NO… emphatically NO. It’s all the same garbage.

I had never been a fan of the QD train due to all the kittens that intentionally derailed it on a constant basis, but I had enjoyed the FGS train. It was something that I could jump into and out of without putting anyone out. I had made a few freinds and the chat was usually fun. Before the last, last patch, it paid about the same as doing dungeon runs. Now, ya, you can do it, but it’s really not worth it.

TL;DR: I now have 1 or 2 places to “hang out” in the game. It’s no longer fun. Loot is abysmal. Those are my particular issues with all the NERFS.

I’m sure all the people who are willing to spend countless hours farming keys (WHICH IS OK IN ANET’S BOOK BUT NOT CHAMPS OR EVENTS OR DUNGEONS OH NO) will be super rich. Good on ya.

No ways to make gold.
Names ways to make gold.

Champ train was always bad gold. If you thought it was good, you never really knew how to play the game at all. And that’s why I’m glad the champ train’s gone. Now you’ll learn how to play and you’ll be in my world were you know there are COUNTLESS ways to make gold far faster than what you thought was the right way.

If you still think I’m talking about the QD train, stop talking to me. You just don’t get it.

I do key runs. It typically takes me about 50 runs to get the 10 scraps at ~30 minutes a run (about 25 hours total). Assuming one run a day for a weapon skin that sells for $150 gold (seems to be the most common high price for recently released skins), that means I earn 3 gold a day doing key runs. I don’t get super rich doing this. There is a nice payoff at the end but it averages per day out to much less and there is a big boredom factor with it also.

If you have someone with 14 skins to sell, think of the math.
If they were managing to do 50 runs at 20 minutes each times the 14 tickets, that’s 233 hours of key farming, equivalent to 9.7 days of continuous 24 per day hour key farming. That’s a lot work. You are seeing the big shiny rewards. What you are not seeing is the hours and hours and hours of really boring work that went to get those rewards.

I get that key farming is a grind… I don’t doubt it. But my point was that one form of farming is overlooked while other forms of farming are apparently frowned upon by ANet AND the community. TP flipping is also tedious and boring, but again, monopolies are rampant, and that drives prices through the roof.

Forgive me, but I’m just starting to realize that ANet has deliberately sucked every ounce of fun out of the game, since now the only ways to make money are use economics against the very players that we’re supposed to be a community with, OR taking out your credit card. Like, it has really smacked me in the face with this patch, and regardless of what you may think, I don’t give a crap about the QD train, so that’s not what I’m upset about.

YES, rewards are fun. I said it, and it’s not illegal or illogical to want cool stuff while trying to have fun playing a game.

Why is stating the truth being dramatic? It is what it is. They want you to farm gems. I’ve accepted that as the truth.

Its the truth as YOU see it. I’m afraid that doesn’t necessarily make it so. To answer your question – Its how you chose to speak your mind. “Woe is me!” = Dramatic

Why is stating the truth being dramatic? It is what it is. They want you to farm gems. I’ve accepted that as the truth.

As a side note: I find it funny that people who hate champ farming are ok with key farming because that’s the way they want to play. Can’t wait for the nerf hammer to hit that one. TBH I feel rather foolish that I have not been key farming. I should delete one my 80’s to free up a key farming slot. What fun! Gonna watch da lootz roll in

Good luck with that. There won’t be a steady stream of “da lootz” rolling in. Farming for keys, as you can’t sell said keys, is a lot like buying a lottery ticket. Largely unrewarding… with the occasional nice drop that has a person running back to buy more lottery tickets. I’ve tampered with farming keys off and on. Its extremely time consuming.

You have no idea how I feel about anything, so please don’t try to interpret my feelings from internet posts. It’s just sad and very wrong and a waste of your time and energy. I’m not the only person to see the writing on the wall here regarding the gem shop.

Farming for keys is “unrewarding”??? I had a person in my guild last night that already posted about 14 new skins on the TP and expects to be uber-rich overnight. How? They key farm instead of champ farm. Maybe you only “tampered” with it, but there are (a lot of??) people that probably do this excusively for days and weeks at a time, for just this sort of thing. New skin at 1 ticket = highway to richness. Yet, everyone seems ok with that, including ANet. Like I said, I just kick myself for FARMING the wrong thing.

all the loot nerfs

There was the event nerf.
Then the dungeon nerf.
Then the champion train nerf.
And now the crown pavilion only gives you two greens for 40 minutes of work.
And this, this really makes me doubt for what purpose all those nerfs were made
(img of the gold announcement below)
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/phoenix-weapons-new-faces-and-more-in-the-gem-store/?utm_source=client for source.
I wonder whether it has anything to do with China release? Though why to divide the two regions even if you’re planning to nerf the NA and EU version to the ground?
I know what I’m going to be told “you shouldn’t be playing for loot!”. Well what else is there at the moment? After two years every dungeon I’ve done to death. Every zone has been fully explored ten times minimum. Even with the new fractals I’ve done all of them a few hundred times. Burn out someone would say. But burn out is not the problem. The problem is where the nerfs are leading. And adds like this get me worried.
I know that I shouldn’t bother with it. After all there are a sea of other MMOs out there and I can just leave for one until this one adds something new. And I will probably do that. But what I’ve seen yesterday left such a bad taste in my mouth that I can’t keep quiet.

Everything. is designed to push as many people as possible to the gemstore.
They nerf stuff because they want you to buy boosters to make up the difference, I’ve seen it in numerous MMOs.
It’s the taint of Nexon.

I expect eventually it’ll be nigh impossible to level to 80 without boosters, trait captures will have only a chance to succeed (which you can boost with a one use booster!), we’ll see the introduction of a consumable “skin recorder” required to learn a skin for the wardrobe, special single-use boss chest keys to boost your chances of rare loot (an extra 2% chance at a precurser!)
I could go on, with more and more ridiculous stuff that most people would scoff at and say that could never happen, but I can see any of what I’ve listed as being entirely possible, maybe more. It’s a matter of change by degrees, change things by small enough/slow enough increments and most people are too blind to ever notice, at least not until its far too late.

Sadly, I think you’re extremely correct. I really hate to say it because I have loved a lot about this game, but maybe it’s time to stop the bleeding. Time to go buy some excercise equipment

I think it would be fun if you had an organized group (say, you have a large, organized guild). In order to get anything worthwhile you must kill all the bosses within a specified time limit, meaning that you need separate groups killing all bosses at the SAME TIME. If you take them on one by one you will fail and get 2 champ bags, with 2 greens and some kitten ticket.

TL;DR: if you don’t have the Teq/Wurm team working with you, it’s not worth it. I doubt any unorganized group will do what needs to be done to get the “good” reward (which I doubt is even then very good – prob one yellow and 3 greens).

Do you want us not to farm champs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ozmaniandevil.6805

ozmaniandevil.6805

Anet made decent loot appear so rarely that players became akin to starving people, desperately gorging on champion boxes in the faint hope that something appeared in them. The champ train was a symptom of player “reward starvation” and a large amount of learned helplessness. Why do complex events like tequatl and 3 headed wurm when those give next to nothing in return. Far better to simply run round in a boring circle while watching tv and to collect a hundred champ boxes in the hope of something by raw force of numbers.

GW2 is built around giving nothing and taking all our time and the culmination of this is events like the new queens gauntlet, which are the perfection of this punishing philosophy.

We learned that the mystic forge hates us. We learned that RNG hates us, but now we don’t event get drops in our events for the rng to happen in.

The game hates us – that’s how I feel at the moment and I don’t understand how it can have come to this. I want to play, but its as if I am being told to go play something else – why is this?

I agree with you and gave you a +1 as well.

People started farming HARD when ANet came out with the queen’s jubilee, an event that the game developers … developed, which for many inflated the prices of anything event remotely asthetically pleasing into the stratosphere. How do you then go from there back to running 15-20 min event chains for 2.5 silver?

The overall rewards in the game are worse than pathetic. There are a lot of high level players (meaning they have all toons at 80 and are not just playing for specific reasons other than leveling) getting low, low level rewards. That can only go on for so long.

Key farming is still a big gamble wherein the player ends up risking time that could be better spent in other venues. Dungeon rewards (and, well, every reward structure in the game barring EOTM) may have dwindled, but at least they are constant.

Case in point: I’ve gone on about 20 key runs over the last few weeks and have received three scraps, one ticket, and a whole bunch of rubbish I’ll never use. In the 15-20 minutes I spent on getting repair canisters and killstreak boosters, I could’ve made a fair amount running SE. I still do it regularly, however, as its one of few GW2 pursuits that isn’t time-gated or on a spreadsheet and doesn’t require waiting for others.

Anyhow, everyone should support key farmers as they keep skin prices low. Row, row fight the powah and such.

Again… 1 ticket right now = about 200g.

However, you missed my point entirely so I will just move on.

i think part of the problem here is that people (myself included) remembered turning over 100+ gold from the Pavilion last year, and figured it was going to be the same thing, and instead they aren’t getting anything near as much for as little effort as it took to do last year. I get its a bit annoying, but at the end of the day, when I get that final reward chest and it comes out with some decent loot from doing the champs in a more “challenging way” then I feel a bit “more” rewarded.

Define “decent loot”. At this point, I don’t ever foresee getting anything I’d remotely call decent. It’s not just the Pavilion. It’s everything. How many complaints have we heard about the dismal drops/rates from even co-ordinated events like Teq and 3 headed wurm? WvW (which I spend quite a lot of time in) has horrendous reward for the amount of “effort” put in, amount of deaths, running, etc.

Herein is where they make the cash. If I want new BL weapon skins, what do I need to do? Use my credit card to buy BL keys, or use it to buy gems to convert to gold, because there is pretty much no other way to make reasonable (read USEFUL) amounts of in-game gold.

When you have every character at level 80 and don’t have the time or the desire to run “x” dungeons per day, what is left that is fun and rewarding enough that you can get some of the things you want? Not freaking much man.

I feel sorry for those whose only pleasure is seeing others unhappy.

Kythan, I understand your confusion. In every LS content released, it is all made for zerg play and huge groups of players, which to me, with all the nerfs, is counter to some of the things they do otherwise. I say this as the Queen’s Jubilee opens again… that is the very “event” that got me started on zerg play. Until then, I had been happily just playing the game, completely unaware that you could even have more than 4g in your bank account.

The only real issue with getting PvE’ers into WvW is lack of reward.

I do both WvW and PvE regularly (considering I’m a casual player). Considering that WvW is an “80” zone, you cannot even come CLOSE to reward in WvW compared to Cursed Shore. One hour in WvW will net me maybe 1g if I salvage/sell everything, whereas with the spawn times of events/champs in CS, I can easily net close to what I was making on the FGS champ train.

I really noticed this disparity last night, as I had been spending a lot of time in CS after the patch. Then last night I wanted to WvW for a while, so I spent probably 1.5 hours in there. About 27 spikes later, with a few greens and one rare item, I was shocked at just how bad/unbalanced the rewards are in WvW. Yes, I had fun, but people who PvE want PvE rewards out of their time.

TL;DR: unless you provide a rewarding time, PvE’ers will never go “all in” to WvW.

IMO; one of the core problems with the loot system is the tiering (coloring) of drops.

Early levels are set well with blues, and a green sets us above the AI a bit.
Mid levels, the AI is more tuned to be against greens with yellows setting us above the curve.
Late game, or max levels and the AI is more tuned to yellows, with oranges (exotics) setting us above.

At least, that’s how it feels to me.

With that in mind, in mid levels, blues should stop dropping and only greens and yellows show up. Mostly greens so that yellow maintains it’s “Sweet I got an upgrade” feel.
However, at the cap, we should no longer be seeing Greens or Blues. Yellows should be the norm with oranges and the really rare ascended piece making the whole day worth while.

Removing some of the “junk” from the loot tables will go a long way in making items have more value other than “just more of the same crap” all the time.

Once steps like the above have been done (if Anet wanted to adapt such a thing anyway) then they could focus on finally adding in some badly needed diversity in art design to the drops – which has been a complaint since Beta that I’m shocked still hasn’t been addressed outside Gem Shop silliness. Stuff needs to be IN game as drops to add value to the content. – IMO of course.

I like your ideas about tiers of loot drops. I mean really ANet… I’m level 80, in a level 80 zone, with 277% MF, and I’m getting white drops!! WHITE!! This should not even be a thing. 90% of what I get is utter trash – disappointing, non-exciting, trash.

Is it that difficult to recognize that precursors are just a broken part of the game ?
Except in Diablo 3 when they had auction house, I’ve never seen a game where players were OK with being farmed by the luckiest.

I think this is the aspect that bothers me. You are literally being farmed by other players because of a broken system. They get rich in game while you ruin your enjoyment to farm events/mobs/dungeons for hundreds of hours… for what? Something that should not be locked behind RNG.

That’s the whole point here. Not that some people are literally UNABLE to get the thing. It’s HOW it can be gotten, and that the how is wholly un-legendary and frustrating for 99% of players.

On your fear of heights, I have the same, and I find that if I jump off a high cliff into some water with my character, I actually feel physically ill, just like I’m actually falling myself. Me and jumping puzzles = do not mix.

Is this an outfit available in the gemstore right now? Because my necro will be all over that. I just got the bloody prince outfit but heck, I could use another necro-ish outfit for sure!

This is my first MMO and I’m 45. I’m not sure of the ages of my guildies, but it’s maybe the 2nd biggest guild on my server so I’m sure there’s a real range of ages. Alas, I think I like this game too much. My poor husband is a GW2 widower.

Black Lion chest keys not dropping anymore?

I’m pretty sure a black lion key drop is more rare than an exotic drop but not quite as rare as a precursor. You’ll be lucky to see one drop every three months.

How much money have you spent on gems ?

$440 That’s worth a lot of pizza, burgers, and other junk fast food deliveries. Thank you anet, you improved my diet. XD

LOL.. thanks for the laugh. Sooooo true right? If we don’t spend it here we spend it on something else equally as frivolous. Don’t kid yourselves. Anyone who thinks people are “stupid” for paying cash for gems must not have ever purchased something they didn’t absolutely need to live.

I know your build is for PvP, but is it ok for PvE or would I get murdered by everything? I have a guard that, at this point, is set up for team support in WvW, but if I decide to do some mapping it would be great to have a build that doesn’t hit like a limp noodle.

Thanks for posting

If you’re new, you won’t get all the best traits right off. For necro, you MUST learn to kite and dodge very well while leveling in PvE. You can’t stand still. Try to update your armor and weapons every 10 levels or so, with stuff from karma vendors, or bought off the trading post if you have some coinage.

I hope you have fun with your necro. It was the first class I made, and even after the playing a faceroll warrior for some time, I’ve come back to my necro and am loving it. She has 99% world completion now. Minions are definitely the way to go in PvE. I don’t PvP so won’t be any help to you there.

Hmmm… is this any better? I don’t know why no one is commenting. I see a lot of talk about roaming builds. I really need a guild/zerg build that helps out my team. Is there a certain amount of toughness or vitality I should aim for?

ALL it takes is patience…. something 99.9% of GW2 players do not possess. No “free pass” is needed or warranted.

WvW Zerg Build Comments/Help

in Warrior

ozmaniandevil.6805

Hey all, I’ve got hundreds of hours in on my warrior, Rose Faron. She’s my only character with world completion, and I’ve used her mainly for PvE. However, with the new megaserver, and the nerf to regular trains, I find myself usually in Orr now for PvE, and use my necro exclusively there for AoE (obviously, for loot). I’ve also been using my necro for WvW and I’ve gotten quite good at playing that class in zerg. But…

I miss playing my warrior. I also feel that with all the condition cleansing going on in WvW that maybe I could be more of a help to my guild/server using my poor, lonely warrior. So, here is a build I’ve come up with and I’d like your comments/suggestions on making it better. I’m looking for survivability with decent power. I’m not used to playing hammer, sword, or warhorn, but I get these are most helpful in zergs. I’m mostly looking for help with slot skills, traits, and sigils/runes.

Any help you can give will be appreciated. Please, no flaming if you think this is bad. Rather, if you tell me what’s bad, tell me why and help me understand how to make it better. I don’t PvP so I don’t fully understand how things work together. Thanks

I decided that Rose Celeste Frost would look less “cute” and a little more battle-hardened with an eye patch. I dunno though. She is still pretty cute

FGS is going strong on my server. They do wurm, drake and troll rotation until trio pops (fish, kodan, norn). Also do quag when it’s available. I don’t think it pays as well as it used to but you at least get karma from all of them now.
