Can you… edit your post so you use grammatically correct writing? I’d say I stopped reading at the first sentence, but your entire post is a single sentence.
Please. Not everyone has English as a first language. I completely understood what the OP was saying.
How is it arbitrary? Please actually give some items that are blocked arbitrarily, according to you.
Example – Celestial items cannot be traded as they are close to Ascended items and they also cannot be traded. That is not arbitrary.
Celestial items are not based on rare drops, but on time spent in game. They are, for anyone who wants them, inevitable. The required materials are not rare and can be acquired thru gameplay.
It is a CHOICE whether or not you get Ascended items. There is no in-game roadblock to their acquisition; every single component drops GUARANTEED, even the account-bound ones. Now, the number of elements may vary, but if I kill a boss or open a crate, I KNOW I will get fragments/ore/dust. Skill points can be methodically acquired. An important piece can be bought from a vendor.
And yes, I have one character fully decked-out in ascended gear, by CHOICE. My other 80s don’t have ascended, by CHOICE.
The new amber weapons are not acquired by choice; theoretically, I could open thousands of chests and never get the fossilized insect. Getting a fossilized insect is pure LUCK. Not skill, not perseverance, not money, but LUCK.
Ascended weapons are a choice. Amber weapons are luck.
Luck is not arbitrary – sorry. As Vol said behind you – it is just like gambling. Some win big others lose big. Just because you don’t get the fossilized insect does not mean it is arbitrary.
LOL… luck is not arbitrary??? It is the very definition of arbitrary, as in, no rhyme or reason to it, as you exactly point out right after your statement. There is no reason or system applied to luck.
And please, for the love of all Tyria, make unlocks account wide. Having to do the same stuff over and over is boring, tedious, unfun, and not even cool bro. C’mon ANet, do something about this fiasco please.
I think that’s a great idea. +1
Hm, yes, speaking as a WvW’er, I use warhorn a lot. Swiftness and cripple. ’Nuf said.
In PvE, not so much but I often use it in Orr if I’m choosing not to run Spectral Walk; again, for the swiftness mostly, but anywho it’s very useful. Otherwise in PvE it’s dagger OH.
WvW map completion is not a joke. The problem is for the PvE crowd is they wait do WvW map completion last, after getting all the PvE maps done first. It is really easy to get all the POIs and Vistas for the color that your server is currently, unless you are matched up against a server that constantly steamrolls your side during the hours you play.
My suggestion to the PvE crowd is to go into WvW, get all the POIs and Vistas for your color, and log out. Resets happen on Fridays, check then if your server has changed color. If not, wait another week.
I wish I could feel sympathy for you, but I simply cannot. There have been countless times where I have seen our server be assigned a certain color that we haven’t been for weeks, and then promptly notify guild members to suggest they pop into WvW to grab needed POIs and Vistas. The normal response? I’ll worry about WvW after I finish all the PvE maps.
Another option would be to, oh say, hop into WvW and join up with your fellow players from your server. I have seen many times a commander lead a zerg of 20+ to take a tower or keep because one person needed a POI.
Word. What I been saying for the longest time. Eeeeeeeeeveryone waits until it’s the LAST THING. Yup, frustrating time you will have alright.
Looking for my pot of gold.
Aaaahaahaaaaa that is awesome
I still don’t think most of you are understanding the OP. No one said exploring in and of itself is not fun. The chest rewards are unfun. Therefore… what’s the point of putting the chest there? Part of the FUN of exploring is maybe happening upon something you didn’t expect…. like…. I don’t know… say… a chest!! Why put a chest in the cave if it doesn’t matter to anyone? Why are the vets protecting it if it’s full of junk????
I get what the OP is saying. I don’t think he/she is implying that exploring is bad per se. But the chests should at least have something unique in them. I love to explore Tyria. But when I fight off one or three vets and find a chest, it would sure be nice to have some form of “ooooooo a chest” thought go through my head rather than “meh I know there’s nothing interesting or fun or unique in that chest but ya I guess I’ll open it for the empyreal fragment” thought. I guess that means we’re entitled. Whatevs. Loot in this game is BORING BORING BORING. In every way. Unless you’re one of the 1% that get precursors dropped on them like rain.
I think the waypoints are already far enough apart considering there are usually several contested waypoints on any given map.
Exactly Vincent! Players want to play the game! We want to be rewarded for playing! We want cool skins that come from playing!!!! But RNG is maybe not the best way as a vehicle to get said rewards, within that framework.
Personally, I would not want anything just handed to me. Some of my favorite skins are the ones I look at and remember the times I played to earn them (i.e. spinal blades, wings of the sunless). I enjoyed that time. I enjoyed feeling rewarded for that time. I feel awful for those people that kill Teq 1000 times and still have nothing “cool” to show for it. All they have is bad feelings now. Same will happen for people trying to get these amberite skins. Some will get 10 and some will get none, for same level of play. This is highly unfair!!!
As others posted, go to Edge of the Mists. It’s not real WvW. It’s just like PvE with trains and everything. You will have your levels in no time. You get badges of honor with achievement point chests for every 500 APs.
However, if you’re making a legendary, you need 100% map completion, meaning you will still need to complete all the WvW borderland maps plus Eternal Battlegrounds. No way around that. So, just start early and get what you can if you haven’t done it already.
Good luck!
Yes OP, I agree this is a pain in the kitten. I tried using this elite but far, far too often it doesn’t help me at all. So I just use anything else. No minion master for me. I usually use wells, spectral walk and change up the elite to whatever I need at the time.
I agree with the OP, and I have one of the fossils. I don’t like it for the exact reasons stated. I think the current system alienates players and makes them angry. Why should a game make you angry? It’s bad for those that may never see a fossil. It’s also bad for some that get one or more but have no interest in them. It’s also bad for people like me, who will never use just one weapon of a set (yes, I have some weird thing about matching). OK, so I have one skin. But I need 3 more to make a set of weapons. What if I never see any more?
I really dislike the way this game determines how you get stuff. I am like the OP in that I don’t mind working for something. Heck, I’d even find it less stressful to master some part of the game that I hate. But to put countless hours in and get nothing is just disheartening.
I mean, what’s with these idiotic sandpiles too? Using up hundreds and getting a few geodes is ridiculous. So… loot that is actually not loot. No, this is just bad design.
I really like a token system, like dungeons. What’s wrong with getting tokens for all the drytop events (much like the geodes and sandpiles), being able to save them up and trade them in???
I don’t see a problem with being specific about the kind of party you want to create for a dungeon run. It’s peoples’ choice to get in the group or not. I don’t think it’s right to kick the person who posted the LFG. As someone else said, if you want to have a “whatever build I don’t care” group, then you post it; don’t go waste someone else’s time.
Personally, if I went looking to get into a group, I would read the requirements listed before I joined. If I wanted to do a dungeon taking my time and learning as we all go, I would post my own LFG and expect that a bunch of speed-runners wouldn’t kick me out of the group that I made. If I wanted to try a dungeon with all necros just for the heck of it (don’t laugh! could happen!), then there should be a tool where only that class can join maybe?
Why would you ever delete an 80? Its painful enough to level a new character. :P
You should always keep them so if you ever feel like playing something different you can.
I have 11 lvl 80’s. I havent even deleted the duplicate classes because that would be such a waste. :P
Personally, this isn’t something I just did “just ’cuz”. I literally had some 80s sitting there for months and months, and every time I logged on and looked at them my immediate thought was.. “naaahhhh, not as much fun as [insert any other class here]”. I had so much expensive gear and runes tied up in them that I finally decided it was time to just let them go and salvage my investments.
That freed up some coin to get my 3 main [fun] characters some cool new stuff that will actually get used.
The kicker is that just before deleted them I actually purchased 2 new character slots. Now I have 4 empties :p
Why arent people angrier? Because Anet deletes all angry posts.
Give this man/woman a star.
Apparently maybe that didn’t work. Will try again later :p
eta: or it did… ergh!
Updated Rose’s look so she looks a little more Asian, to go with the jade weapon look.
Slight variation on the Harley Quinn look for Rose.
There is a problem in that the SEARCH funtion has never worked in these forums. Add to that, that if you try to add to a thread that isn’t new, the moderators will often lock it and tell you to start a new one… but… sometimes not… ’cuz they be messing with us all the time.
I agree some things should be stickied. Then we can stop making multiple of the same thread, rehashing everything until well past dead.
I don’t use food buffs
MUST USE Food/Utilities!!!!
This is especially important in WvW, where conditions are heaped upon you. Usually you’re going to want to use some -condi food at the very least. There’s some that is expensive and give -40%, but some that is waaaaay cheaper that give you -36%, so you don’t even have to spend a ton on the food.
You sound so much like me! I have had up to 5 level 80s plus many others started but deleted them all to focus on my necro, warrior and thief. Sadly, I have not played ranger, so I can’t comment on the good/bad points of that class.
My advice is to main the one you have the most fun playing. I spent a good deal of time on my necro, then mained the warrior, ankitten ow back to my necro again because I just love the options I have playing her. I still use my warrior for dungeons and some other “bring your highest DPS toon” content, but necro for me is the go-to.
If you have the most fun with the ranger, main that one. I felt very much like you. I’d rather spend lots on one or two that I really love than spread my “wealth” over a bunch of toons I never really use. By the way, when I deleted all my high level toons and salvaged everything I had on them, I made over 400g! Best decision I ever made.
Hmmm, well, as Sir Kaboomski has mentioned, perhaps then it’s a matter of learning to play the class a bit better. Or maybe try taking some builds to PvP, see how you do and change up accordingly. At least there all your stuff is “free”.
Maybe post your current build here and let some knowledgable thieves comment on it. Perhaps you have some synergy issues.
Are you using all the trinkets? Are you at least using exotic trinkets? Are you making sure you’re using top tier runes and sigils? You may want to read through this sub-forum for some builds and get an idea of what you may be doing wrong if you’re not hitting hard with a thief. Are you using food buffs? Are you traited properly?
Ah, I already have berserker gear
Is it the correct level? Is it exotic?
I will add that understanding armor and weapons and all the different stats they have is imperative to do well at level 80. Are you in all exotic gear or are you still in masterwork or rare? This will make a huge difference in WvW. Masterwork has way less power than exotic gear. I suggest doing some reading on the forums and in the wiki. You’ll thank me once you’ve done it!
FYI, I am not a gamer. Had never played an MMO before, nor a role playing game. I started with a necro and did ok until I hit level 80 and was in Orr.. dying… ALL the time. Why? Because I had no idea I was using sub-par armor and weapons (prob level 50 or something). Now that I know all about gear, I main my necro again and kick butt.
Yes I’m talking about WvW and my thief is 80, got a question tho, what is the zerk gear actually ?
Armor and weapons with berserker stats, Power, Precision and Ferocity. You can search the TP for “berserker” and you’ll see!
Since waypoints have been part of the game since launch, it cannot break immersion to use them. It’s part of the world. Always has been. As others have said, if you prefer not to use them, that’s your choice.
In fact, wasn’t waypoint fees one of the things that a certain politician used as his platform for election?? Can’t get much more immersive than that.
um… i have no issues at all. and i have no cable. please don’t take away my only entertainment!
Well first, necros are not squishy. At all. You have a high health pool, then you have the bonus of DS (death shroud). Second, if you’re soloing, necro is great. I have solo’d champs with mine. You can spec it for power for PvE play and you’ll hit more than hard enough, and have enough weapons at your disposal to melee or kite as the situation warrants (check out spoj’s necro guide in the stickies for some good info). I can roam all over Orr and never feel underpowered. I can group up for events and get tons of loot thanks to great AoE tagging.
Necros are great for PvP and WvW, and you can spec for heavy conditions, or wells, or terror, or what have you. I use mine a lot in WvW groups (small, not T1 zerg) and I love it and it packs a punch.
I think the only place necro isn’t really needed is in dungeon groups. As many have said, other classes do stuff better than necro, though they’re certainly not totally useless.
I love my necro. She was my first character. I stopped playing her for a while because I had no idea about how important armor and builds were, so I got to a point where I died all the time (I was in Orr in underlevel rares, for goodness sake!). Once I did sort it out and geared her appropriately, she is now the lady I play 90% of the time. Love, love, love my necro.
Yes, it’s fun. I like RNG. Getting something truly rare is a real treat. I don’t ever want precursors to become some sort of ’Everyone’s a Winner Just for Participating’ trophy. Nope nope.
I don’t believe a precursor should be EASY to obtain either. I never said that you should get anything just for showing up.
I very much share Vayne’s opinion. What makes RNG work are the times when you get something and go, “Nice!” In GW2, my character may say something like that, but way too often, I’m not. There’s a sweet spot for desirable drops, and GW2 is below that with its RNG, at least as it applies to me.
I think this is how I feel. I would love that “omg!!!! sweeeeeet!!!!” feeling. Once.
I think many of you are misunderstanding my question. I’m not saying you can’t also buy stuff. But does that make it fun? Someone gets lucky and can make 2000g and play whatever they like but you have to grind out gold for that skin you want. Is that fun? Would you rather keep it as is or would you prefer to be able to earn or craft special items, without it be random where some person gets 5 of something and you get none?
Take a precursor as an example. Sure you can grind 1000g and buy it. But is that fun? Do you think this is a good system? Or how about one of those BL weapon skins? Want to farm 1000g to buy BL keys to hopefully get enough scaps together to get one skin? Or would you rather be able to complete x, y, z events and have it rewarded at the end (rather than minis or yet another backpiece skin)? Would you rather be able to craft stuff or are you perfectly happy grinding out gold to buy it from “that lucky account person”? And let’s be real. No one needs any of this stuff, but this is a game based on looks, no?
Is the current system FUN or no?
I’m curious on this as well. Anyone have it yet?
These I like. The staff looks kiiiiinda similar to the Bifrost. Anyway, I like these way better than the Ambrite skins. Might have to get me a few.
Meh, I’m not super enthused about them. Not sure I like weapons that look like bugs are stuck on your back (shield).
So is it fair or fun if you do Teq 1000 times and get nothing while your friend or guildie does it 20 times and get 3 skins? Are you all ok with that as in “whatever, that’s how the dice roll, I’m still loving this game!!” Or does it make you want to walk away in disgust?
I see a lot of threads (many of which I participate in) where players complain about RNG, especially when it comes to things like precursors. Then there is the RNG of the BL chests. And the RNG of things like “regular” exotic drops, etc.
There are many, many complaints. Yet ANet continues with the system and seems to lock more and more stuff behind RNG.
So, are there players that actually like the fact that most of the cool stuff in the game is locked behind RNG? Do you find it much more satifsying when (IF) you finally get a cool drop? Or would you be happier if you could earn or craft cool items, or important items like precursors? Do you think it’s more “special” one way or the other? If you prefer to be able to obtain stuff in a different way, what way(s) would that be? I.E. black lion keys or the contents of what’s in a BL chest, precursors, new armors, etc.
Discuss!
I don’t get why people are discussing the grindyness of getting a legendary.
All this is about is to make ascended weapons into precursors.
The only change that means is the precursor, not the T6 mats, not the map completion, nothing.
Get on topic. And yes, I do think that it would be more logical to have ascended rank on the precursors. And I do agree on making all ascendeds at least being upgradeable to precursor status in some form or the other, possibly by requiring very rare resources to do so.
Currently, making ascended weapons is a quite large detour if you’re aiming for a legendary. Making ascended weapons a part of the process would make it part of the progress instead of a huge detour.
It can still cost a bunch, I don’t mind, but at least make it so that you would want to craft ascended even if you’re aiming for a legendary.
Can’t say I disagree with you. To me, the ascended stuff is more legendary than legendaries, since you HAVE to make the stuff. And personally, I will never buy a precursor, so unless one drops or becomes craftable, I will not have a legendary.
For different tiers i assume the poster meant something like the -40% condi food at about 18s each compared to the -36% condi food at about 3s each (going off memory which is not totally accurate so don’t flip out if that’s not exact pricing).
You will always be much better off, if you want something cool like a BL weapon skin, to just buy gems and convert to gold and buy it off the trading post, especially when the weapons are 1 ticket each. If you want to create human characters over and over to get to the level 10 personal story, until your eyes bleed and you hate the game, to get some keys for “free”, go for it. But don’t spend your money on the keys, ever, or you will hate yourself and the game.
Would it still be legendary if everyone has it?
yes because everyone already can have it with a credit card
eta: it would be legendary only if you had to earn it and it was really hard to do so
I will just add that while many people would “oh shame on you” the idea of using gems to buy levels, we already do that. You can buy BL keys, to open BL chests, which may contain an experience scroll. I would simply suggest to take the chance part out and just let us buy the things.
DaveGan presents many good points. I don’t use EotM myself but I can certainly understand why many people do.
I don’t know why ANet can’t see that people who have 2000-5000 hours into a game need some much better alternatives to all the things DaveGan listed: getting karma, leveling/getting XP, getting loot, and getting dragonite.
I think that once the QD train was nerfed there weren’t any other places to go.
It has nothing to do with gem shop dollars, or at least it shouldn’t. It has to do with sucking it up and just getting it done, with patience and a dose of “it won’t kill me”.
So just when I thought I was done… someone in my guild mentioned that Rose looked like Harley Quinn. Not knowing who it was, I looked her up. I loved the look, so have now tried to match it as well as GW2 lets me. What do you all think?
Spend an hour or two in Orr once a week, farming events, and you’ll be able to afford consumables.
I believe they are imperative for WvW (speaking as a necro main).
For WvW, the main thing is to not wait until the last minute to go get those POIs, vistas and skill points. If you wait until the very last, and it’s all you have left, you will get very frustrated, as you’re not ever going to be able to just run around in one day and get them.
Probably good advice, but that ship has already sailed for me as I didn’t discover I would be forced to visit WvW until I already completed the PvE world.
I just can’t understand the mindset of trying to force players that like PvP to do PvE and vice-versa. For every person who may come away with a `that wasn’t as horrible as I thought` experience, far more are just going to be frustrated and annoyed.
While I get your meaning, you do understand how one sided your statement is, right? PvP / WvW players are forced to endure FAR more PvE zones to obtain the same results. The hardest part in mapping the WvW maps is being patient on the matchup rotation and remembering to go into maps regularly to check for easy availability to needed locations.
To be fair, he did say “trying to force players that like PvP to PvE and vice versa”.
