Ya, my enthusiasm has died in this season. Our server … well, I was hoping for a much better turnout, to say the least.
Next time pls change it to: complete 5 daily wvw achivements
Sorry, I can’t agree with that. Weekly achievements are do-able. Not everyone can log in every day, and then they miss out on the “meta”, whatever that may be, if they can’t log in every single day and play for 4 straight weeks? Nope.
I don’t think 5 events a week is enough, but daily isn’t going to be any more popular. I would think that 40-50 events a week would be do-able. Even 25, if we want to talk minimums, but at least keep it weekly rather than daily. Just my 2 cents.
A new look for Rose. Horns of the dragon with incarnate armor, except for the legs, which are apprentice. Dyes are abyss, black cherry and flame. Wings of the Sunless back.
I honestly feel that all my best moments in this game have come from WvW. Every time I play there I remember how much fun this game can be. My favorite times are those when we (always being outnumbered) hold off big zergs from taking objectives. I think my favorite ONE time was about 15 of us in SMC, holding off an ARMY of golems and the zerg that went with it. We prevailed, and that was the most epic fight I can remember.
Do you all think it would be as bad as it is if the cost were on par with the cost before the change, to buy the traits? I mean, the only thing really stopping me from having all the traits right now is that I don’t want to toss 42g and hundreds of skills points out the window for what amounts to something I should have by level 80. In my opinion, if they want to HOT FIX this, then simply cut the cost by about 80-90%. Voila! Happier players. Then you can take your sweet kitten time to really fix it.
My take on the achievements for Season 3 is that, at the end of the day, it just keeps PvE players out of WvW for the tournament. The title at the end is meaningless, as it will require no effort whatsoever. Yet, remember, those that obtain the AP and title from doing EotM will likely not be rewarded in any other way, as their servers will not be gaining actual points from their “non-participation” in the tournament.
I get that WvWers wanted to keep the PvEers out of the turf (all rally bait anyway, ya??), but ANet has actually found a way to make SURE they don’t go there.
I also find it quite disheartening that the APs are so tiny and inconsequential. I thought, as a player who cannot dedicate 8 hrs a day to this game, that S1 achieves were too much, but S2 was just right. They required your time to be spent in WvW doing stuff that was mostly helpful to your server (despite not having any defense ahieves). S3 achieves are so laughable as to not even be taken seriously.
I will never know how good or bad the NPE experience is because (1) I am not a new player, and therefore am not the audience it is intended for; and (2) the trait system since Apr 15 is so stupid that I will never create another new character. I did try one to check out the trait system but at level 80 and 39% map completion I have 4 traits, and that is just pathetic. Will not do again.
You do realize you still have to go talk to a BL merchant to actually pick up your stuff, despite the area that says “take your stuff”?
Oh I will have to look up what a PvP reward track is now
Thanks!
I have always thought that ALL yellow mobs should be select only for targeting. Your “auto target” should NEVER select a yellow mob. EVER.
Thanks for all the help! Much appreciated.
Ya, I find the up path quite easy. I could def run that daily (the one with the non-moving tree boss at the end)! I haven’t tried the other path yet. Is it about the same, or more time consuming/difficult?
OK, ty. So looking at the wiki it seems that other than the Aether path, there is only up and forward for TA. But it should only take about 5 days running the 2 paths to get all the tokens I need. Thanks guys!
This is just a quick question since I don’t do dungeons often. I need to get 500 tokens from TA for making a legendary. Can someone please tell me how many tokens you get per run? Like, if I just want to do TA forward/up, can I do that 5 times in one day and still be getting tokens each run, or only tokens on the first run and then nothing?
Thanks!
Or newbie has to kill the Overgrown Grub, but that takes a group and nobody is willing to help him. Instead he gets angry messages that he is hurting the WvW effort(which he might very well be, because killing the grub does nothing for the war effort).
There WOULD be people doing the Overgrown grub event, mark my words if it was a trait you absolutely needed for a staple warrior or guardian build…. (and of course you didn’t have the ability to just up and buy it with cash.)
If killing the grub was the only way to get said VIP traits, I guarantee you there would be loads of people doing it each day.
I guarantee they would not. People who WvW (NOT EotM) are there to score points for their server. They aren’t there to fight the stupid grub. It’s in a terrible location. It’s incredibly tough and hard to kill. No one…and i mean NO ONE wants to do it. I don’t care what you get out of it.
There is still hope. They said at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Misconceptions-regarding-Level-gating/page/4#post4396936 :
- Finally, I want to add that a few things (hello traits!) are things that can be improved for players who make multiple alts, we’re aware of this, and though company policy prevents us from discussing what’s in development: I can say we know Gw2 can be an even better game for people who love making alts in the long run, more info: when it’s ready™.
Problem is that it’s taking way too long. They should have done something much earlier considering the valid points brought up shortly after the trait change. They’ve dropped the ball on this ‘til now. They’re simply running the risk of people leaving for good before they fix this. No, I’m not suggesting that rushing anything is good. I’m simply stating that the fix should have begun WAY before now.
OK, so I get that these changes were for NEW players, and not us vets. If ANet thinks they’re justified, and they have the metrics a while from now to prove they worked, then ok. TBH it just doesn’t affect me because the trait system is awful now that I will never make another character. I was never an avid key farmer, so I really don’t care about that side of it. I honestly think that most of the vet players here are up in arms because (1) they can’t skip the NPE and they like making alts – which is an understandable gripe; and (2) they are big time key farmers seeing their farming being “nerfed” – well, sorry, too bad, we all knew it wasn’t going to last, regardless of the fact that ANet “let it slide” for so long.
As I said in another post, I think that ANet used this opportunity to “fix” a few things that weren’t really broken, per se, but were costing them gem sales. Was that the sole purpose of the changes? Of course not. People need to calm down. However, if you’re simply an altaholic, I feel for you, because there should definitely be a way to turn OFF the NPE if you have more than ONE character.
Ya, I’m one of those vet players with over 8k AP and 2k hours and I still have no idea when I should or how I should be using combo fields. I find the wiki explanation quite confusing, tbh. It would be really really helpful to have somthing in game that helps players learn this stuff. Yet, I hesitate to ask ANet to implement anything, since every time a suggestion is made, we go 1 step forward and 10 steps back. So ya, I’ll just remain on the peripheral when it comes to combo fields, thanks.
I was going to reinstall the game later tonight, but there is so much negativity on the forums. Is it bad? Is the game empty? I never got past level 40, but always enjoyed the game. Is it not fun anymore?
Personally I feel you shouldn’t take anyone’s word for what you will or will not enjoy. The best thing about this game is that you can drop it and pick it up with no penalty or sub fees to pay. Pick it up, try it out, see if it holds your interest. It doesn’t matter what 50 other people say. It’s your experience that counts.
Since PvE is FUBAR I will be spending all my time in WvW. I think IoJ will do better than 7th…. uh… not just cuz of me :p I’m sure we’ll have some great battles with all of our Silver opponents.
All professions are OP according to all other professions. Nothing can be countered. All is vain.

I have no idea what is up with spoons but I’m sure I’ll have to go to a 3rd party site (Dulfy) to find out why I should care.
I think these events sometimes get bugged. I noticed recently that I have not gotten the side chest a few times even though I get the large chest when doing temples in CS. This is something new for me. My only question (and I’m sure I know the answer) is if you are in a full party all the time, although I would imagine if you’re getting the gold medal icon, you should get everything, unless you’ve done it that day already.
I will never make another alt. In fact, even after leveling a new ranger to 80, I think I might just delete it, since I have only 4 traits and I refuse to jump through hoops to seek them out (rather than, I don’t know… actually play the game the way I would have enjoyed it).
So, I will stick with my necro, my warrior, and my thief. Too bad, too, because I think the ranger would have been fun had I been able to play with builds.
I’m on the fence as to whether I will continue to play. As I stated in a post a while back, I think I’m still here because I’ve invested a lot of time and real life cash and I feel it would be a waste to just up and leave. I’ve also grown really attached to my characters. Yet, the sheer boredom is hard to overcome.
Good thing I don’t collect minis… I would feel mad if I was one of the players that jumped on the news of this change and bought a bunch of them. Really mad.
Well my norn ranger has been level 80 for a while now and I have 4 traits unlocked. I’m mapping Lornar’s Pass now so hey, I’ll have 5 soon (4 adept and one master -wooot!!)! I wonder how many more months of WORK I will have to do to get an actual build?
Well I had a set of account bound traveller runes sitting in my bank forever so have put them on my “running around Tyria zerker” armor. It doesn’t matter about stats for mapping. I can’t stand being slow, and I opened up another skill slot.
I personally think that a large % of key farmers will stop farming keys with the change. Most people don’t have 100 leveling tomes sitting in thier bank, to use on throw away toons just to get keys. I, for one, do not. I won’t spend time in PvP just to facilitate getting some keys, and I’m sure that the majority of players feel the same way. For sure, some will still use these for at least some time, but at the end of the day you’ll see prices skyrocket for BL skins because there will be A LOT LESS of them.
I do believe that ANet did this because they wanted to nerf the farm, and ALSO for other reasons. Or maybe this is just (for them) a happy side effect of other changes they had planned on making anyway.
Key farming would have gone away if keys actually dropped while playing the game the way it was supposed to be played.
As they once did before tickets and scraps were added.
Ya right? I remember those days so fondly…..mmmmmmm.
Only necro is kaput….
Oh here’s an idea… the weapons tickets could be actuall GOOD DROPS in the world. You know… like actual awesome loot that you might be excited to get once in a blue moon…… naaaahhh…. that wouldn’t be fun.

If you switch a pet, the new pet has full health.
If you switch the pet before it dies the CD for the next swich is much lower than if you switch it after it dies.
If both of your pets are dead and your skill for switching is on CD you will loose some utility as the signet of renewal becomes useless and you loose part of your damage as well as the use of the active F2-skill.
OK, thanks! I have to admit I have yet to change my pet during any PvE fighting while leveling, as there just wasn’t any need. Yes, I’m a noob :p
Well if nothing else this will give me a starting point. My guildies can probably give me some guidance once I get used to playing the class a little better.
So, being new to ranger, I note you mention changing the pet during battle in one of your posts above. Does the swapped pet come out with full health? Is this a way to make your pet more valuable/useful in a fight?
Trait reset has happened before. Can’t remember the reason exactly, but I didn’t know it happened so I ran around for some time with none before I realized they had all been reset! Actually come to think of it, I think they did that when the traits became free to change.
Aren’t drop rates based on the mob? Like, troll #47 has a .0009% chance to drop an exotic? And therefore, with RNG, it will drop maybe 2 exos in a row and then none for the next “x” amount of times it is killed. But, each and every time it is killed, it has the same chance of dropping an exotic. I thought this is how it works. Your magic find % would increase the drop rate per mob. I honestly don’t feel it has anything to do with changing armor. I’ve used the same armor on my necro for about 7 months and have had good and bad “luck”.
Thanks for posting this. I recently leveled my first ranger to 80 and I really, really want her to be useful in WvW, but I’m not a roamer. I’ll be trying out your suggestions here!
Set your expectations fairly low for zerging as a ranger if you’ve done it on the other classes first. It is really not where we shine.
If you are on lower tiers, which my server FA has occasionally dabbled with, rangers are actually really strong in zergs though. The less opponents, the stronger rangers get and the more they help their allies.
And with that in mind, consider that my suggestions are for T2 and Kysin’s suggestions are for T1. There is a huge difference. (Just saw you on are IoJ) You can be way more aggressive with pet choices as well, as they won’t die nearly as much. Take pets for their F2s rather than survivability.
Thanks Fluffball, I’ll reread everything here and try out your suggestions!

Glad to hear it! Hope you find a good group to run with. Usually you will find guilds leading melee trains, so keep your eyes out for that!
Well, I’m on IoJ and in KoR (Knights of the Rose) and we have a pretty good group for WvW. I’ve been maining my necro in WvW, but I think that getting in there with a ranger will just give me a different experience. We’re not T1; usually outnumbered pretty heavily, but it’s always a fun time
I’ll admit I’ll have to buy dungeon paths (if I can) since I’ve never done Twilight Arbor, and I don’t usually have a lot of time to do dungeons, and I can’t be on TS, which is a hinderance.
you can make a party named something like “TA newbie, please teach” and people will join who will be willing to help you. also other newbies will join :P it will take longer than normal, but hang in there and listen to someone who’s done it before. Should only take 1 run through before you will be confident enough to join normal parties named “TA up path”.
Hi Mystic,
I mentioned in guild chat that I needed to learn the TA path and a group of regulars was nice enough to take me through it. I did alright – never died! I didn’t find it that tough, so I’m confident I can run it now daily. I was shocked the end boss was pretty… stationary. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

9/10 for Sig Bjorn. I really like the meaning and it sounds not too shabby when you say it.
My first and only norn is a ranger, Rose The Immortal. I realize Rose may not be a typical norn name, but all my character share the name with differing last names.
I didnt realize you are REQUIRED to party with other players to do anything in GW1. I’m not happy about that.
You aren’t.
NPC henchmen or heroes can be used to create a party without any other players involved.
I guess I have to figure out how to get those. Thanks.
You can find them standing around in any outpost or town and add them that way, or press “P” and click the correct tab to add them. Heroes are introduced in Nightfall and EotN, but henchmen are in all of them.
Thanks. I saw the tab in the party menu for henchman but it was grayed out so I thought maybe I have to do some quest for it to become available. To be fair I haven’t played for more than a half hour so far!

So funny story… I downloaded the game, and on logging in noticed that you need to input a character name after you’ve created your account. Well, I made my character, played for 20 mins, then had to log out quickly…. and now can’t for the life of me remember by character’s name o-o …. so i’ve been waiting for ANet support to help me so I can play my game. I’m a bad gamer.
I bought the trilogy. How to associate that game to this one so I can get the HoM stuff and achievements? They seem completely separate. Do I need the EotN one?
Thanks for the info. I just bought the trilogy. I’m interested to see how it plays compared to this game.
i hope you don’t like jumping!
Well I hate jumping puzzles. Does that count? O-o
did they donate or was it an exchange to avoid the grueling rng and trading post prices?
if it’s the former, i’m a bit appalled you would allow someone to gift you an 800g precursor rather than immediately pressing the ‘return to sender’ button in the mail tab
I’m sorry, but someone who mails you something as a gift shouldn’t be doing so hoping you’ll send it back. That is just silly. If someone sends me something BY MISTAKE, then yes, I would send it back. If it is truly a gift (and I have personally sent guildies stuff they needed to make various legendaries) then I would never expect the person receiving it to send it back. I see no need or reason for you to judge the recipient as “bad” because they accept the gift that someone gave them.

I have seen many cases of good deeds and helpful players. I’ve had mesmers port me to impossible vistas (I’m looking at you EB green keep!!), I’ve had people help me with skill points and champs. I’ve helped others with the same. I really think there are a lot of really nice people in the community, and I’m glad when players like pdavis actually “vocalize” that kindess on the forums, because it doesn’t happen enough.
